Vodafone are offering two in store promotions (may be available online, but always better to go into a store anyways)

Disclaimer:
I have ticked that I am a store rep as my other half works for Vodafone as of Last monday :), prior to this i was just a customer and a fan of their great new network.

HTC One:
Pre-Order started 26/3
$10 per month on $65 Red Plan
Double Data (3GB)
Port in and get 2 months free.
Pre order Special
Customers who pre-order the HTC One (M8) will receive a bonus HTC Dot View Case valued at $44.99!
Offer ends COB 31st March 2014
HTC Dot View Case features:
o Works with motion launch so customers can simply double tap to turn screen on and off
o Large and clear way to read alerts
o Pickup/dismiss incoming calls, view calendar reminders, notifications, weather, time, and volume controls o The case will also help protect the screen and the best part is there is no additional power source or battery

Samsung S5 Offer:
$14 pm on $60 or $65 Red plan
buy s5 on $60 plan and get double data (only with S5)
They will be offering Double Data on $60 Plan (not currently getting double data offer) to anyone who Pre-orders S5 before March 31st.

EDIT: Thanks to Post below, It is being shown that the S5 will be $14 per month on the $65 Plan, Lifehacker shows data as 1500mb but its 3Gb on red plans

All other current Vodafone Offers apply as well
* 2 Months free access fees if you port your number to Vodafone (in store only, online its 4 months 1/2 price)
* Double Data on All Red Plans ($65 or above)

Now everyone is quick to bag Vodafone, but for a network which has gained more customers than it has lost in the past 12 months (excluding those numbers which were disconnected due to three and Cj's shut down, according to Gizmodo) and putting my affiliation aside through my partner, I am a very happy Vodafone customer and while we can quickly turn this into a Voda Hating post, i feel there is no need. You only have to look online to see majority of customer interactions (Facebook, twitter etc) with vodafone are positive these days. Gone are the days of hundreds of "your network is broken" comments and posts

I have also attached some screen shots below of my 4G experience
taken around 3pm today in my home on 3 bars of 4G

UPDATE:
The two months port in offer is NOT AVAILABLE on the Galaxy S5 but is AVAILABLE on the HTC One Deal

so, whats the deal here??? i believe this is just an announcement.

    • +5

      Wow..so quick!
The deal is if you pre order you get freebies (HTC) or Double Data on a plan you otherwise wouldnt get double data on (Samsung)

    • +7

you get to stuck with Vodafone for 2 years on an expensive plan

      • +2

Hmmm.. let me play devils advocate here
        Excluding the usual MNVO suspects.

        $65 Voda:
Unlimited calles to landlines, mobiles, 13, 1300, 1800 and voicemail
        3Gb Data (current offer)
Unlimited SMS to anywhere in world

        $60 Optus:
        700 Minutes
        1Gb Data
        Unlimited SMS in OZ only

        $70 telstra
        $700 calls
        Unlimited SMS in Oz
        1Gb data

        Virgin
        $60 Plan
        $700 calls
        3Gb data (current offer)
        Unl Virgin to Virgin calls
        Unl Texts to Oz

Hmmm… to me i see Voda as best value

        • +2

With voda you can also use the monthly call allowance to call overseas, which only virgin offers of the other three telcos above

        • +7

The problem is with Vodafone network I probably won't be able to use most of the data or calls due to frequent drop outs and out of coverage in my area.

        • For sure if you dont get coverage then you shouldn't sign up.
When was the last time you checked your coverage with Vodafone?

          http://www.vodafone.com.au/aboutvodafone/network/checker

        • +4

Now. Reading 1 bar most of the time on my phone and H+ if lucky.

        • yeah sounds like u r in a sucky area :(
Thats no good man… i have been really happy on Voda, i switched from Optus and i got nothing but awful coverage with them

The Mrs said to tell u to call voda and get them to turn ON national roaming
Quite often this will improve your coverage as turning it on will get you access to the optus towers through the sharing arrangement the two networks have with each other. She said more often than not poor coverage these days is a result of this not being enabled, it only started 6 months ago so a lot of longer term customers haven't had it turned on. (apparently voda is in process of enabling it on every account, but its taking time )

        • Best if to call up the Call Centre and haggle if you are out of contract, minimum of $5 off each month :P…Very unfortunate that stores and store-reps can never ever match online Offers and Direct offers unfortunately but if someone wants to grab the phone on 1st day, store if of course the best way.

I do not understand one thing, why not rather drive customers to stores at least the Vodafone Select Experience stores. When Vodafone UK can do crazy in-store offers like give a free LCD TV, free Smart Watches why not here. I would rather than the store steaming in for launch of phones like S5, iPhone rather than people flocking online. Its like store reps hands are tied here on how much they can offer when the direct call centre can hand out pretty easily a $5 per month discount over 24 months !

        • +1

It's not that bad, or atleast where I stay/move. I use voda mvno in recent months and don't find it much worse than others. Personal opinion.

        • +1

If Optus and Vodafone are sharing then why are you getting better coverage when you changed from Optus to Vodafone?

        • I got offered $5 discount per month by the retention team within 5 minutes over a new 24 Months contract and $3 for a new 12 Month Contract. Of course the notes were left in account, but new customers get 2 months off minimum which is much better. My question is why the store reps (at least in Company owned Select stores) have absolutely almost no power , even with Manager approval to bring in a customer to Vodafone.

Well phone is in stock and you get it then and there is a good thing. But Vodafone delivery in most case overnight delivery if you order at the right time, and you save time and driving/going to the store. My point is , I would love to go to the stores and get a phone in person but why are the offers in most cases better online and not in stores. In US/UK the store offers on launch days are always the best and they can match even Amazon/Best Buy offers without even a whim. Here I asked Vodafone Store in Melbourne few months back if they can match the online offer for a Galaxy S4 Cat 4 and I was given a 'Go Away Cheapo" look ! And guess what the store was almost empty on a Friday late afternoon !! So just tell me will I like to go to the store , get such shoddy treatment, beg for discounts rather than get it online just in a few clicks.

Its upto the independent owners to fight back against Vodafone and bring parity and better offers in store than Online. Vodafone is themselves responsible for driving people to buy online and the stores can hope for the best when there is a disparity like this handed by their parent !

        • Optus only has 2100MHZ 3G (max 7.2mbs)
          Vodafone has 850MHZ 3g+ (max 42mbs)
which i am on most of the time, i only use optus if there is poor or no vodafone coverage which is mainly regional.

          in reply too:
          morphio 14 min ago new
If Optus and Vodafone are sharing then why are you getting better coverage when you changed from Optus to Vodafone?

        • There is nothing like loyality these days anyway with Banks/Telco or whatever. So all I did was switch to a $2 sim and switch back to Vodafone as a new customer ! Its so obvious what we need to do and it is 100% legal.

        • Lol Vodafone and its 3G+, switch off your 4G and do your speedtests in 3G+ network and you will be in for a shock. Max I get is 7~8 Mbps in the middle of Melbourne CBD :P
Of course the 4G network is way faster but the 3G network is still in primitive state.
Anyway with just 1800Mhz spectrum of 20Mhz its not too long before the network is back to its full load. Vodafone needs to clear up some 4G on 900Mhz as well before it is too late. They are the only carrier out of the big three with a single band strategy !!

        • +1

Why would you exclude the usual MVNO suspects?

The same suspects who offer the same service on the same network at a cheaper price? (with the same general sub standard service)

        • +1

as requested.. just did 3G Speed test

          http://imgur.com/47pgR8U

        • +1

Thats superb I must say for Vodafone 3G, still not quite DC-HSPA+ speeds though.
You live in a superb coverage area for sure. 5 Bars Vodafone 3G inside building coverage is as rare as anything for Vodafone !

        • They'll never do that here. They're trying to recoup the lost revenues from the 1 mil people who switched from voda

        • if you are referring to the article in paper recently.

          According to Giz:
427,000 people who were on three failed to switch or migrate by the deadline and as such were disconnected (mostly on very old $0 plans, no calls no charge)
370,000 people had active three or CJ;s prepaid sims which expired or did not move to another provider

So they lost 203,000 customers in last year…
Optus lost 178,000 and Telstra lost 87,000

Vodafone had its first Positive quarter in Q4 2013, meaning it gained more than it lost and Q1 2014 looks like its on track to be evern better than the last

          justsaying

        • +2

Actually the coverage map does not work or just plain lies.
I had talked to Vodafone reps (in-store and online) and as per their maps, I should get at least -65dBm to -72dBm (at least) at my apartment. What I get is -87 dBm. Thats like 15 times lesser signal than expected !!

Not that its better with Optus they are even worse. But Telstra field reps can give a very accurate idea. Their probable RSSI and mine measured RSSI differ by just 1 dBm inside my Apartment. Not that the signal is any better, but I would love Vodafone to be absolutely correct about their updates and signal strength at places mainly about their 3G network which is very patchy. You need to work 30-40km away from city to experience this, so if you live and work in and around good areas Vodafone being the cheapest is the best deal. But as even Planhacker says, we need to experience on hand and not believe these fake coverage maps.

          http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2014/03/planhacker-all-the-sams…

Reception matters, but you can’t automatically assume coverage from a given network even if your address is listed on a map. If you plan to switch networks, borrow a phone from a friend or relative on that network and see how it works for you.

        • +5

          $40 Amaysim
          Unlimited calls in Australia.
          Unlimited SMS
          4GB of data
Running on the Optus network, which has been more reliable for me since I switched.

        • Vaya is cheaper if you buy the handset outright from kogan
and use 28degreesmastercard with price protection

The GS5 outright price will plumment in 6 months I GUARANTEE IT
so you claim the difference back

Meanwhile you dont have to be locked in a long contract with voda
whilst still enjoying lots of data + optus 4g

  • +4

    TL DR;

    • 2 Months free access fees if you port your number to Vodafone (in store only)
    • Double Data on All Red Plans ($65 or above)
    • Customers who pre-order the HTC One (M8) will receive a bonus HTC Dot View Case
  • any 12 month plans .

Sign up online and get cash back from qwibble

LOL..i just posted this on the original post, so will post it here in case its been missed.

My other half has asked i put this in…as to why you should buy in a store.. she is bias of course
The way Vodafone online/over phone works is that you place your order and the phone is despatched directly from a warehouse to you. As a result the IMEI number is not attached to your account which can cause issues with warranty and obtaining POP down the line… when you order or pre-order in a store the IMEI is attached to the account by the store once the handset is given or delivered to the customer. While many wont see this as a valid reason to buy from a store, they will see the issue if the time ever comes to claim through insurance or a warranty.
ALSO.. she made sure i put this bit in… Every Time you buy from a store you keep that store open, Most Vodafone stores in Australia are independently owned and the more people who buy online the less stores will stay open. While you may not see this as a big issue, again if you ever need to go into a store you will wish there was one open near you.

      • +4

The 1st part is wrong, totally wrong. I had pre-ordered Xperia Z in March 2013 and got the invoice along with Phone and sim-card delivered together. Its the invoice that is needed for warranty either with Vodafone or the manufacturer nothing to do with the IMEI being connected to your Vodafone account or not ! Why will say Sony want your Vodafone account no or mobile no to service your phone. The invoice is all you would need.

I would love to support stores but here are few points why retail is in the condition like today :

        1. Store reps who have no idea what they are selling. They sell the product/plan whichever have the highest commission/bonus irrespective of the needs of the customer.
        2. Online Deals/Plans are not matched in Store, why not I ask. If normal electronics retailer can I am sure Telco's also can. Its the manager and franchise's will power to show business. Work out a special scheme (like last year Galaxy Note 3 Vodafone scheme) and sell 10,000 phones on launch day. This surely will keep Vodafone looking and I am sure they will give an unmatchable deal to the store to get those nos.
        3. Shoddy service from Store reps once you are a customer. They care for only new customers unfortunately.

Your better half might have joined Vodafone recently and we all will love to get a deal here from retail store. But what we will ask is let her work out a deal with her franchise/manager or whoever and work out a special deal.We dont want what is already available on the market. If she is new this is her chance to show that she is really interested in signing up hoards of customers with the right product and offer mix.

Just posting like an ad will not help. People will just buy online. I cannot justify paying almost $155 extra ($120 Qwibble cashback + $25 '25SAVE' Online Coupon). If the store can work out a better deal or even similar, I will rush and take it. As for me working in a Telco, I know commissions/bonus for new customer signups can range from 150~200$ per customer. Not sure how it is for store reps though

        • 25SAVE has long been discontinued

        • -4

Have decided (at Mrs request) not to continue this battle, renegade clearly is pro online and as such we will let him have his position without argument. The reality still remains the better customer experience will always be in store, and when everyone starts getting upset that they can't find a store we will know why.

        • +2

LOL so only store bought phones are eligible for immediate look-up for warranty purposes. I am sure it is not so, That is laughable at best. My same Xperia Z ordered , the 1st one was DOA. I called up Online guys and they sent out a replacement with a return prepaid parcel inside the same package the same day. I got it next day and returned my phone no hassles. I have heard horror stories in stores where even DOA need to go through painful approval chains and there are very few on spot replacements.

I have nothing against stores and I love the new Vodafone 4G network but that warranty reason is no way plausible why I should buy from a store. So please stop preaching that,

        • I dont know how that works for Vodafone but I never had a trouble with my Xperia Z DOA which was processed the same day when I got the phone. So if they did not have the IMEI on my account the day I received the phone, how did they get the replacement shipped out the same day.

What I am talking about is the Australian Vodafone Support Team([email protected]) and Vodafone Community Forums. They have major powers and approval authority with them and can get things moving real fast. Unfortunately store teams do not have all things at their disposal and needs to get in touch and approval of these people finally.

For people who needs help choosing their plan, technical know-how and recommendations of new devices and services, yes better to go in store. But in ozbargain and tech-saavy deal people out here, do you think its arguable that there will be warranty issue with Online Orders.

Anyway what I am doing is I am sending this Technical info to the local Vodafone Australian rep about this Online order and warranty thing and wait for them to clear this up. I am 100% sure it was not a problem for my last online order with a DOA case and should not be for anyone. I will link them to this thread as well. We want an official standing of Vodafone on Online Orders vis-a-vis Store order for this warranty issues and POP thing.

        • -1

Well as I told I am just a Vodafone customer so will get it confirmed from local Vodafone Australian Customer Support and from their FB/Twitter team regarding possible warranty/DOA swap issues for Online orders. But I am not sure how my DOA Swap was processed the same day I got the phone. How was that possible then ? Proof of purchase requests can be logged in online via My Vodafone and is acted within 24 hours.

I just checked my e-mail and I got the POP in 16 hours after I logged in the request through My Vodafone from [email protected]

        • Well this is from a friend who works in JB Hi Fi Telco and resells Telstra. JB's commission is around that mark for a new 24 Month Contract. Of course its not paid to the rep, but I am giving an idea.

How do you thinking Qwibble is paying $120 cashback then ? And yes I have got the cashback 3 months after I signed up. Its through an Affiliate known as OMG network, anyone with an ABN can sign up to their Affiliate network and earn such commissions.

        • -1

Oh i thought you meant to the salesperson!!!
yeah i think stores get around $200 for a $100 New connect but they have to pay staff etc

@downero —- Did you even try it before making your post :@. Your post took 30 seconds , but you could have tried and checked. It works, check screenshot below. Now I know it will be blocked soon as the reps wont like it. Now please have a check yourself and post, dont run away please.

          http://imgur.com/TAJ8phO

        • Please do not feel that way. Customer service is always variable from person to person and I am sure your Mrs know how it is different between different reps. You can ask her how arrogant can those repair reps (who inspects Mobiles and stuffs) can be.

I am in for a Retail store experience and I would love to , but what I am saying there should be a level playing field given by Vodafone to retail stores for them to flourish. After all Retail stores are not just a selling point, they are here to show the Brand Image, better customer experience.

        • Agreed, but sadly this will never be the case, i was simply pointing out a pretty important benefit to buying in store.

        • I hope it happens sooner than later. In US and UK the launch day store deals are massive and as good as if not better than Online deals.

Thing is you should have posted it in the forums as its regular pricing available to everyone and is hence not a deal. You might take it as arrogant but think about it as a deal or not, and you will get what we are trying to say here.

But surely I will love to support Vodafone stores and I am sure your Mrs is an excellent and helpful rep unlike the arrogant, shoddy and shameful reps I have seen in the Melbourne CBD Vodafone Select store.

        • It is a deal..
You get freebies or double data (when you wouldn't of otherwise) if you pre-order.
Given what else gets posted as a deal this MORE than qualifies as a deal..

        • Double Data is an ongoing Offer and been there for almost a month now.
A deal is something like the Galaxy Note 3 from Vodafone. If a store can offer something like that, I am sure not only it will be a deal but a very good one. Even the deal below was a Note 3 Pre-Order deal

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/117515

This is what we can surely term as a deal.

        • whip cracks

Lol sounds like someone under the thumb?

        • Double Data is NOT available on the $60 plan since end of Jan
Its is ONLY available on the $60 plan with the S5… SO ITS A DEAL

If you pre order the HTC one on $60 plan u get 1.5Gb but you get the speaker which is a freebie

          SO ITS A DEAL

          $60 Plan with HTC: 1.5GB
ONly the S5 gets the double data on the $60 plan!! Hence why this IS A DEAL
          http://imgur.com/nl67hOU

        • OK Lets agree it is a deal, but a regular, general and open-ended one available to once and all in Australia. And there will surely better ones available once unlocked handsets are out and sales are not good as expected :P

And there is a better deal with a chance of saving $155 ($120 Cashback + Coupon) but as you say Warranty is a problem for Online Orders (yes its a problem for non-tech savvy, non-social media posters, Telco community forums users and of course OzBargainers).

And yes I love to get things in STore as the feeling is different. But here it is how it is. I picked up the Moto G from Good Guys store after a 20km drive probably costing me more than $9 that I got refunded for the delivery. But yes it was awesome to have the phone and start using it. Why not have an online Click and Collect model Vodafone. Telco's still operate the way the MPAA/Music industry operates, they still think they are loosing money because someone in Syria downloaded their song on the internet :D

and also its 6'44 screen and snapdrap 800 ( not very big difference from 801, even u cant feel)

    also waterproof IP 55/58

I believe you can easily haggle for these extra packages at the store in person. No deal.

    • But the fact you don't have to haggle makes it a deal.

      • -8

That was the lamest response every. What….just what was that?

Just in case jimbobaus edit's it, he said "But the fact you don't have to haggle makes it a deal."

        Like really?

  • What specs does the M8 have?

    • +4

Google HTC m8 and magic will happen.

      • Is any of that confirmed though or just rumored? I am not aware they even revealed the phone officially, though I might have missed it. IT certainly didn't have the fanfare the S5 did.

  • Buy a Famous Chinese brand for 200-300 bucks with same specs as an S5 or HTC M8 like Oppo Find and the upcoming Oneplus One then just pay 20 bucks a month no contract at small carriers that use the optus network just as liveconencted, tpg and vaja.

Or just pay 120 bucks for a Chinese brand S3 knock off that does everything you need.

Thats what a bargain is, not all these Vodafail phone plans, or do what i did and go on a plan for the handset, take them to the ombudsman for bad service and get out of the contract and keep the phone! Abit of effort but if you stand fast that they provide bad service then they will terminate the contract for you and dont want to seeyour face again!

    • Care to share some reliable purchase links for these? I'm using a $29 phone which has dual sim and radio woohoo. Need a cheapie for my work emails.

//Eh google answers everything. Thanks for the names.

    • +3

Using a crappy knockoff phone isn't a bargain.
It's being cheap, sure, but it's not a bargain.

You sir should take the time and read up on the hundreds of reviews of "crappy" knock offs, i must admit, you are right there are many knock offs that are crap but you get for what you paid.

In saying that there are really some famous Chinese brands like the ones i have noted above which are just as good as what you pay for the latest high tech for 1/3 - 1/4 of the price.

Knock off phones have come a long way just like the old Hyundai cars have gone a long way too.

        • So many contradictions in the one post.

but you get for what you paid

which are just as good as what you pay for the latest high tech for 1/3 - 1/4 of the price

          and my favourite:

like the old Hyundai cars have gone a long way

      • and taking to the ombudsman for claiming to have crap service just for the phone isnt either, thats just being a doodle..

  • is double data only for the 1st year?

    • 24 months I thought.

      • +1

        oh, true, found the T&C

Double data is only available for months 1-12 for eligible 12 month Plans, months 1-24 for eligible 24 Month Plans and months 1-6 for eligible SIM only plans after which standard plan data inclusions apply

Does the bonus double data count towards the red roaming ?
If yes, then it is cheap to have 3Gb for 30 days for world travelling for $50+150 (sim only plan) = $200
But if only 1.5Gb then it is so so.

  • I'm sure Vodafone would be great in Brisbane were I spend most of my time, but it seems to be useless in my hometown, with '3G Limited' for the entire town.

    • Only tel$tra have 4g here, so I'm stuck with dem.

  • How much faster is Snap 801 compared to 800? The 001 doesn't sound like a big jump, compared to 600 —> 800.

Also, why does its front facing camera have more megapixels than its rear camera?

  • According to this quick google search:

    cpu = around 14% faster
    gpu = around 28% faster
new memory interface = 17% faster

The back camera uses the ultra pixel technology. You can't really just judge camera's based on mp rating. The back camera is superior to the front one.

Edit: here's a better article to explain the differences.
