    I just found some more Jetstar fares (down from $332 to $304 now - I have updated the bargain) and they are much earlier. There is a Jetstar + Scoot fare in Jun/14, but it is $290.

    Nothing wrong with a bit of forward planning. I go to Asia annually on some cheap flights and usually book them about 10-11 months ahead of schedule. Gives me time to scope out amazing deals on hotels and pay everything off incrementally though out the year.

    By the time I leave, I usually have spending money saved and everything paid off so I can enjoy my holiday and come back with no debt.

  Jetstar will beat any competitor's price by %10 if the flight is with in 24hrs.
  this isn't really a deal considering when the flights are and Scoot's frequent sales

    Yes and no. Better for flying from Perth only.

    Should also highlight the risks associated with mixing carriers. Miss your transfer and you'll be screwed. The airlines wont want to know about it and you'll need to re-book another flight. This could also happen if one carrier reschedules your flight. Quite a significant chance of this happening with booking so far in advance.

    I have updated the original post with new dates for Scoot only (still $250). The Jetstar+Scoot price has changed a bit & I'll update when I get a chance.
