I think this deal was better https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/137998

  • has this O/S been jailbroken yet? I presume not..

    • +1

Nope, but Plex should work OK running on that.
      Myself waiting for newer version.

      • +1

        this

        sickbeard+plex+plexconnect=win

    • It would be nice to put XBMC on.

    • +2

yes, ATV + XBMC is a very slick solution, - the only problem is you can't use USB and HDMI at the same time - so no removable storage. That's why I ended up going with a Raspberry Pi.

      • Where did you get your Raspberry pi and did it come with a case? I want one with xbmc

  • Waiting for newer version for an extra 20$

  • Has anyone moved from the WDTV to Apple TV?

I use WDTV for netflix and watching stuff on my PC via servio. WDTV is OK but it hangs and I need to reset all the settings every now and then so would go for Apple TV if its better.

    • +1

I have both, I would say for Netflix and Hulu, the apple is better. Much faster than the WD TV to load as well.

      • What about for streaming stuff from my PC?

Someone mentioned Plex so I assume I can install plex on the Apple TV and my PC?

        • You should look into the Roku from Amazon - best of the lot.

  • New version gonna be a game system too I read????

  • +1

can you use abc iview and sbs ondemand through apple tv?

    • +1

Have to stream from ipad/iphone/ipod touch via airplay. No iview and SBSOnDemand app for ATV

  • with this and ipone 5 or ipad for example, we can mirror everything to tv, correct?
im talking about youtube, PPS (chinese movies app), photos, safari, — and maybe games? (yes still need to navigate on the phone/pad)

    • Some apps have restrictions eg. Foxtel Go and require jailbreaking/workarounds on the phone/iPad, but all the ones you listed are fine

    • Yup, wife watches all her Chinese soapies on the TV using this setup. I really can't see why people bash the Apple TV. For what it can do it is an amazing little device.

      • +1

yes obviously this beat the hdmi cable connected from iphone to tv~
its nice to watch pps on big screen :D

Just a normal price for the Apple TV in the refurbished section of the store. Sometimes it is in stock, sometimes it is not, just like any other refurb item. Why is this a bargain?

    • +1

Because for most of the time, it is not in stock.

      • +1

There are many decent items in the Apple Refurb section that are not in stock most of the time.

        • +1

and when they come back in stock they should be posted as a bargain

  • Any date on the new version?

    • +1

How long is a piece of string? I've seen people saying one should avoid buying the latest Apple TV because a new version will be out "soon". I guess it depends on how badly you want it. I purchased mine last year when people were saying a new one was coming "soon". Glad I didn't wait.

    • +1

probably in the first week of june at the WDC

  • Is the iview plugin for plex currently working?

  • I think it's $100 + $30 Apple Gift Card thingy at Dick Smith?

But can we do http://izismile.com/2011/07/12/reincarnation_of_broken_mac_m… with it? :S

nice one…i saw this today while searching for a replacement for my boxee…didn't realize that this low price was a deal…

oh well, anyways my boxee remote started working again as I had put the battery upside down (duh!)

  • What's the best way to connect a external hdd to TV to watch downloaded movies etc..?

    • +1

Buy a decent TV with USB and connect it. Most modern TVs have inbuilt media players that support a range of codes.

      • +1. thats the easiest solution. but after months you will get annoyed having to move the hdd from tv to computer (to download, to delete, etc).
at the end, NAS is the best but expensive

  • Great I got one, never would know

  • Pi??? Wow pls tell more

  • Lots of better solutions out there for Plex + us cable for non-Apple people. Now that Boxee is dead, Roku is industry leader and Google also offer a good android solution. For more info, check out Whirlpool forums.

  • Got one too - thx for the heads-up OP

  • How the hell is this a bargain? Brand New latest Apple TV from Big, target, etc is $108.00

So your saving $30, getting a returned product which was previously used..

    https://www.bigw.com.au/electronics/home-theatre/bpnBIGW_000…

    • +2

It's a bargain because the refurb is the current model, with new (albeit plain) packaging and in as-new condition, with a full warranty from Apple.

  • You know refurbs are generally send-back devices for customers, that Apple or some local authorised place cleans it up, tests it and repackages it.

to save $30 and not get a brand new device, … shrugg each to their own, I just dont see that much of a bargain

    • +2

instead of $30 why not think this is 33.33% saving, for product that has been refub by apple. i think i will take it

  • so uhh where do i clikc buy?? haha

  • Out of stock. I snooze, I lose!
