[Stock Level/Pricing Error] Olight H15 Headlamp $1.36 AUD with Free Shipping @ Gearbest

Moved to Forum: Original Link

First post by me.
This is more than likely a pricing error, but for $1.36 with free shipping…it's worth a shot right?

  • my bet is there is suddenly stock available at full price in a day or so…. (or not now that GB read this comment)

  • +1

You guys are so naive. The reason is any but clearance price but gearbest choose to lie. There was no 5 clearance items in stock. If so, why bother. It would be simpler to give it away for free to their workers.

  • +1

I think the story of "only 5 available at that price" is an attempt at face-saving. They can afford to honour 5 at the low-low price as an attempt to mollify the enraged Ozbargainers. Seems very suss though that the "out of stock" sign didn't immediately go up once those 5 had been sold…

    • +1

The question is do you know if they have honoured the phantom 1st 5 purchases.

      • +2

Its reported that a Russian site had the 4 winners, one person got 2, the rest asked for 1. The member here that posted this deal, got it from another site, that site got it from a member of a Russian forum, he states they have heard from 3 of the 4 at the Russian forum. It seems legit.

It was definitely a means to getting traffic, but thats nothing for anyone to be pissed off about. Its standard practice.

As someone else stated, Gearbest never posted here at OzB. The listing at the source for the listing on OzB also not posted by Gearbest. The Russian forum where it was originally posted, I also believe not posted to by Gearbest. It was noticed on the Gearbest site by someone browsing it, and then the deal posted on the Russian forum. Why would Gearbest if they did not intend to sell 5 of them at $1.20, honour it for anyone. They can simply say, pricing error, so sorry. Remember they never posted anywhere but on their own website (which is exactly how a pricing error would appear). The idea they need to placate OzB makes no sense. I can assure you the OP here, is not an employee of Gearbest.

4 people got 5 bargain lights. Good luck to them.

        • fair enough. good sleuthing!

    • Unlikely given the OP's purchase wasn't honoured

  • +2

Why is it still showing up on the website with the same price, and an [Add to Cart] button, if the last 5 units have already been sold?
It still shows up in searches too and gives no indication that it is out of stock…

  • haha lucky me :)

  • +9

The reason for the "sale" was to get more email address's for their mailing list, looks like it worked a treat. :)

    • +4

Very likely. Gearbest is in my blacklist now.

      • Same here.

  • +1

    awesome publicity stunt for GB

  • How does one go about getting a refund?

  • Guys chill out lol, it's all fun and games, we're going to get our money back eventually, I love how stirred up some people get, move on!

    • +1

A dollar thirty four yo, A DOLLAR THIRTY FOUR!!!
      (writhing on ground)

    • Refund or not, I don't accept deceptive behaviour regardless of the outcome.

I don't deal with any business that does not have integrity. GB has just shown me that they have no integrity and I'll call them out and not accept their behaviour.

  • +1

And its still listed at the same price and no mention of stock limits.

    Well played Gearbest.

  • +1

We might win or lose depending on exchange rate movements between purchase and refund.

    • +1

I dont think it works like that with PP. I got back the exact some amount I paid out on a transaction, and that was weeks later. It was simply reversed. At least thats how I remember it.

      • +2

Some people pay in USD for better conversion rates. If pp refunds $6 in a weeks time the conversion rate for the credit card won't be the same.

        • I pay in US$, via CC linked to my PP.
I paid US$1.20 each on this deal.

  • +13

Thank you for your customer data, we will now sell it to India.

  • +6

Yeah this is probably the last thing I'll buy from GB

If you have 5 pieces, you set the stock level to "5", so when they're gone the site won't sell any more.

    Poor form.

    • Lol then everyone would get cut because there was only 5 in stock to begin with.

Us Ozbargainers are getting pretty hard to please, wouldn't you agree?

      • +3

True, but as the consumer, we have a right to think that a store is being accurate in its price statements

This is an error by gear best which was totally avoidable and came about because they forgot to set their maximums on the site…

If they only had five, it would have sold out before it hit ozbargain.

      • +1

There's plenty of deals on here where people post an FYI that they've seen limited stock in a bargain bin somewhere. I think that a store should be up front about stock levels, and having code like "if %stock-level% = 0 then %available% = 'no' " isn't rocket science.

      • What? You want us to be happy with their deception..

        Oh, yeah, sure…

  • +3

not that I'm surprised or anything. but as a fellow Ozbargainer, I feel it's necessary to voice my opinion.

    1. How much interest can they make on this? Let's assume each "like" is an order. That means there are at least 300 orders.

And let's say some people ordered more than 1 item. Therefore one can assume they've sold roughly or at least 600 units.

    That's approximately $800 from selling… what, air?

    1. I vaguely remember this type of publicity stunt was actually illegal. Don't quote me on this though.

    2. Free advertising anyone? As people say, there is no bad publicity.

    3. How long will refund take? now that's a very good question!

The longer they take, the more interest they make. Is that legal? If it is, I'll open up a business and sell nothing and just hold on to all my client's money and live off the interest on that.

again, wouldn't say this on any other forums but considering we're Ozbargainers, every cent counts!!

    • +4

Gearbest are in China, I wouldnt count on many laws being applicable, at least not enforceable even if they were applicable. Aussie law has no reach into China. Its the risk we take dealing with OS vendors, and hope they value their reputation.

And the post here was posted by a Flashaaholic, I know where he got it from. He has no vested interest, he saw a bargain, and thought of OzBargain. One of us, one of us.

It was to generate traffic, that much seem certain. The interest they might make, hardly worth it. On $800 you could make about $40 a year, with 5% interest. Good luck getting 5% for 12 months. Its more likely to be $20, and then only 6 weeks worth if they take that long to refund it. And doing the maths, it works out to a little over $2 interest.

      20/52, *6 = $2.30

GB is obviously not trying to fix it, the item is still listed at $1.20. Traffic for sure.

    • How much interest can they make on this?

Um, not very much? Even if they kept the money for a week it probably wouldn't make it to $10…

    Dear valued customer

Firstly, thank you so much for you recent order for OLIGHT H15 Gesture Control Function Wide-angle Turned Head Design Transparent Ribbon Indicator Headlight.

This price was intended to be a clearance-only price on existing inventory. However, this deal was also a very limited stock offering with only 5 pcs available. While the clearance price was correct, unfortunately the item was out of stock when your order was placed. We are extremely sorry for any confusion caused.

Gearbest will be providing you with a full refund for the item. We will be processing your refund shortly; please note that the payment method used will determine when the refund arrives in your account.

Once again, we wish to extend a personal apology for any misunderstanding.

Thank you for your kind patience and understanding.

    Best Regards

I think it much more likely that 0 people will get one.

    • +7

It's a deadset lie. It's a pricing error. Look at the coupon comment earlier. When applied it changed the price to 20-something.

Gearbest is treating its customers like idiots.

      • Yeah they treat OzBargainers like fools. I simple, honest "we screwed up" might have sufficed but to manufacture a crocodile of a lie as thia will tick off any OzBargainer no end. Sites like DX and Gerber need to respect the intellect of consumers.

If it is an error, why haven't they fixed it by updating the website after all this time ???

Fixing the error shouldn't take any longer than spamming everybody on their new customer database…

How is this personal apology when they send the exact same email to all Ozbargainers… MotherTruckers

    • +1

I'm going to email customer service and ask them what exactly they meant by personal apology since everyone else got the same email as me. Time to waste some time ;)

    • With a population of 136,0763,000 people, that is a personal apology ;-)

  • +7

I believe this is deliberately done to harvest our detail.
My Doulex lamp (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/135059) never arrived, although I'm aware some of you actually lucky enough to receive it.

I'll never buy anything by GearBest from now on, since we know most of the time it will be classified as either price error or out of stock anyway.

    • +1

I honestly believed this was the case but refrained from commenting as so for the fear of being negged .

All will be forgiven (unfortunately) when the next "sweetener" / "deal" is offered….

    • +2

By some maybe - but I am not sure I will deal with a company that is too lazy to take down a mistake - as of about 9pm, the website is still showing the item listed at the supposedly incorrect price.
It makes you wonder what other things they will treat with the same attitude, things like your personal details, your credit card information, etc…
And if they are too lazy to take down a mistake, it doesn't give me confidence when it comes to dealing with a customer complaint/concern about a product.
(fortunately this is only a cheap product)

Edit: They finally updated the website, but NOT the price, to show that the item is out of stock. Why did it take more than 9 hours to do this?

      • +2

        Yeah man I'm with you

  • +2

I made two orders, one for 1 and the other for 40, do you guys think ill still get 1 since I only got one email.

    • -1

No, not unless that first order was in very early.
I feel your fear, and I share your pain.

I was planning to become a rare-gemstone miner and also to do some general spelunking for fun - with my new headlamp…

I just want to hear the Gearbest rep make that sound.
Plus bonus screams as he ponders HIS shattered dreams…

  • How long does a refund take with GearBest? It recently took 45 days, after GB agreed to refund $1. I had to remind them of their agreed refund. Finally I threatened action through PayPal & never shop with them again.
    Good Luck.

    • I'm giving them till the ned of the week then PayPal.
      BTW
If you are worried about info harvesting, just log back in and change it all to nonsense.

  • +2

Lol they must have got alot of people who ordered.

My email just arrived….. must have been in their email backlog.
Time to open a paypal case.

Everybody on here should open a paypal case if they haven't gotten their refunds back yet. It would totally freeze their accounts.

    • +2

We should do something to prevent scams like this happening!

Clearly the time they took to indicate "no stock" can be a scam.

At minimum all of us should open pay dispute, considering the inconvenience caused and they collecting our data!

        1. At the time of making the purchase, the website did indicate there was stock of the item
        2. Payment was accepted by the online store indicating that item was available on stock.
        3. It is not correct to penalise customers for a mistake made by your website
        4. Refund is not acceptable as the same item can not be purchased for the same amount now.

  • Gearbest are basking in their notoriety.

  • Don't know what you guys got, but they sent me five of those bloody emails. They didn't honour the sale, but I wonder if they'll honour all five refunds

Given their history of honour, I'm not holding my breath…

    • I also got 5 emails! so annoying..

      • Ah, don't fear - they'll be sending you a "newsletter" every 2 days soon!

Those 5 emails are the least of your problems :)

        • The emails you can unsubscribe from though, so that's alright

    • Same, getting one every 10 minutes or so.

Definately won't buy from this mob again.

  • Weird I got a partial refund, whilst the rest of it is "Temporary Hold".. Anyone know why they do that? this is on paypal btw.

  • Goodbye Gear best, you're in my blacklist now

  • got email today that they will refund as they went out of stock…me and my bad luck

    • +1

It's not exactly "bad luck", it's bad website management (on the part of GearBest) - not even the original poster got one…

  • +7

Hopefully there will be a special posted on Kleenex soon to dry up all those tears.

Seriously people, you took a chance and bought something that sounded too good to be true from a Chinese seller. Turned out it was too good to be true and now you're getting your money back. Unless you signed up to OzB yesterday it's not the first time you've seen this happen.

    I bought 4 of them.

    • Voice of reason comment (tick)

Now we wait for sarcastic comment and self-righteous naysayer comment

    • My only concern is that this whole thing was a data mining exercise.. and if so how the information is going to be used.

      • +1

        Exactly.

    • The reason why people get upset is because of the intent of the seller - if it was really an honest mistake then cool, but I do not believe this was an honest mistake. I get angry/upset/postal any time someone intentionally attempts to deceive me - that's a natural and healthy reaction.

Do you just let people treat you any way they like as long as they refund you? If so, you're too soft.

      • +1

Do you just let people treat you any way they like as long as they refund you?

  • My refund just came thru. They are NOT honoring it. Gosh that was a surprise.
