Refurbished Nikon J1+10-30+30-110+Bag USD $199 + $31.67 Shipping EBAY Link in Description + More

450

Another Nikon 1 Deal…looks like Nikon USA has a lot of stock to liquidate. This is the best price I have seen on the Twin Kit in a long time. I have this camera and both these lenses already and can vouch for the insanely good value at this price point.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/331205602777

This time there is a selection of colours as well;
-Black
-Red
-White
-Pink
-Silver

It states limited quantity available, but last time they sold over 2000 units. On Nikon Rumors there was talk f the possibility that this is a lot of New Old Stock and not refurbished returns, the sheer number of units sold in the last deal does make it seem that way

It won't let me list the other deal as a seperate listing so it has to go here:

Refurb Nikon D3200 + 18-55VR + LR5 USD329.99+35.33 Shipping

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/331205607468

Looks like black only, once again limited stock and 217 sold already

NOTE: shipping will be slow as it goes through eBay's Global Shipping Program (ie seller sends to a middle man who then sends it on a slow boat to Australia)

That's how much I bought the 30-110 lens for.

  • Nice… I got the previous deal with the LR pack in.

  • Hi OP, how does this camera shoot in night time with your experience? many thanks,

    • +2

(assuming Nikon J1) It is better than any compact camera I have used, and with the 10mm f/2.8 or 18.5mm f/1.8 it really doesnt mind the dark too much. The AF slows down compared to daylight but is still reasonable. If you are willing to ditch colour I am happy with the results out to ISO 3200>

      • very nice shot, thanks, I am thinking with canon powershot g16, is around $469 at JB HiFi, thanks,

      • The size of the images hides a bit of the noise. I have a V1 and performance drops a lot in low light. You can see the noise fully on the 10 2.8 @ ISO800.

      • shots are good, but there's a fair bit of noise, even when you're using the 10mm - e.g. the waterfall shot, the darker areas underneath the rocks.

Not faulting the composer (they're actually nice shots), just the camera's noise level. I'm probably just a bit more picky, using old Pentax glass 50mm F/1.4 and a Nikkor f/1.0 on a dSLR… I'm trying to find a camera that won't sacrifice too much of my dSLR's range but in a smaller package for travelling.

        • I expect less from this camera compared to my D700, but I do know what you mean.

I have been trying different mirrorless systems but have yet to find the perfect one. I do like the J1 for it's DSLR responsiveness, but have learned to expect less from it.

          Thanks for the compliment

        • Grab the Olympus PM2
You get the image quality from the OMD series cameras for $200-$270 after cashback. Will be much better in low light. You can still use your old lenses though the 50mm will effectivly be a 100mm f1.4

I have an old Zuiko Auto-s 1.4 50mm that i have used on my Olympus. Works well.

          http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/olympus-e-pm2

    • I have a V1 which I think is essentially the same on the inside.
Night shooting takes a big performance hit with the autofocus when switched over the contrast detection mode. I took it for holidays and found it hard to take decent night pictures on the streets when I need to be on the move all the time.

      • It improved with one of the early firmware updates, and having the faster lenses helps a bit as well. But I hear you, moving things at night can be a challenge, but it is the same for even the low-mid range DSLR.

        • i disagree. other low-mid end dslrs have larger sensors and better iso performance for low light shooting

        • Interesting discussion - any recommendations over the J1?

        • +2

straight off my head i would say the olympus e-pm2 that was posted on here recently

        • I meant AF speed wise

        • +1

my guess is that the epm2 would still be faster. it did claim to have the world's fastest auto focus system at that time. both contrast and phase detection autofocus uses light to determine the focus area so if your camera sensor/lens dont gather enough light, it will struggle. ive got the em5 which has the same sensor as the epm2 and it focuses faster than my phase detection 650d, day or night

        • You would have to directly compare them. I can confidently say that the AF is roughly the same (if not faster) in the dark (as well as during the day) as the D40/D60/D80/D7000/A65 that we have in the house, the D300/D700 fare better in low light with a definite advantage but that dissappears in good light.

Compared to my EP3/K-01, the J1 is definitely faster all around.

Under good lighting conditions the J1 with native lenses is faster than the EM5, but in low light I have not been able to directly compare.

        • +2

I currently have the V1 and used to own the EPM2, can say the difference in AF speed in goodlight is negligible, the V1 is probably a tad faster, but you'll still have no trouble getting the shot with the EPM2. In lowlight, I actually found the EPM2 to be faster, but not by a lot. The IQ in lowlight with the EPM2 is a lot better though.

  • 90 day US only warranty sounds a bit hmmmm…

    • It is standard for Nikon USA Refurbs, it is really up to your call but there is always a MACK warranty. Truth said, at the prices that they are at I figure it is worth the risk

  • +1

    Sooooo tempting!

  • No Lightroom 5 this time though?

  • Hmmm. Has there been any better deals on a similar product recently? I'm in no rush, so can wait for another better deal.

    • yes, me too, under $200, I will be getting straight away, and another temping was, would like to have with viewfinder :-)

  • how would this compare to a fuji x20?

  • So I currenly just use a point-and-shoot camera but am going overseas at the end of the year to Europe and would like to upgrade my camera. I'm not really into all the fancy stuff but is this camera a good upgrade without being overly complicated? Thansk from a complete amateur!

    • +1

Depends… I still prefer my S95 over the Nikon J1 when I borrowed one off a mate when they initially came out.

For me it far too bulky for not too much of an increase in image quality and focusing speed.

I picked up a S120 earlier in the year from JB after I found out you could stack the discounts so picked one up.

      • Thank you!

  • Ahh Tempting..

    Got one. Thanks.
Now it is time to think about the explanation when Mrs asks.

There you go an idea for you :) :P

    • +1

Tell me about it. The only thing keeping me from buying this sweet camera is that I donno how to justify it to Mrs Meteorite!

      • What is the Meteorite reference about?

        • +4

His username is Meteorite, so she would be Mrs Meteorite.

Likewise: yours would be called Mrs. Schwinn, and so on..

How does this compare with the Pentax Q?

    • +1

Q is way smaller, considered a toy-size with big capability. Probably worst off in terms of low-light performance based on sensor size.
You'd be hard pressed to find a Q twin-lens kit for this price though! Pictures should be better on the J1, although I've not done any research.

    • +1

How does this compare with the Pentax Q?

I have the Q and the V1, which is very similar to J1 in nearly all areas. Nikon wins for focus in good light. In bad light they are both bad. I love Pentax Q easy access to direct controls. J1 should have more menu-diving, like the V1. Pentax allows manual focus on the lens barrel; with V1 it's more fiddly and probably the same with the J1. Nikon should win for video performance (if my V1 is any indication). Battery life is better on my V1. With the Q it's way too short. J1 probably will be similar. Q double lens kits came bundled with an F1.9 prime; it's fun but the focal length isn't the most ideal. In truth, you can go pretty far on the ISO on the V1/J1 to mitigate the lack of low-light lens.

Long story short: I'd probably go the J1 here unless you wanted a smaller camera. But it all depends on your particular needs and wants and priorities. I was most impressed with the Q's interface and controls and its small size (and I'll always appreciate focusing on the lens barrel).

        Thanks for your opinion :)

Is it comparable to sony NEX RANGE?

    • +2

      The NEX range has:
      - bigger cameras
      - bigger sensors, which lead to
      - better performance in low light
      - more megapickles
      - third party lenses (?)

      The J1 is:
      - smaller in size
      - faster auto focus (except when comparing with the latest NEX)
      - compatibility with other Nikon lenses via FT-1 adaptor
      - this is excellent value as a package.

    • Yeah… this is what I'm tossing up. Whether to save $$$ and get this kit + a 10mm f/2.8 or 18.5mm f/1.8 (leaning towards the 10mm for general travel photography) ; or get the last gen NEX 3N 16-50mm kit + better lens?!

      • Tough choice, esp with the good deals on the NEX stuff atm.

    • Is it comparable to sony NEX RANGE?

I sold my J1 earlier this year and bought a NEX. Pretty much agree with Schwinn's comments…. I changed over because I wanted a larger zoom (the e mount 55-200), better low light shooting and wifi.

But for the price you can't fault the J1. Don't be put off by the low Megapixel count.

Oh, the LCD screen on the J1 is much better than the NEX range…..larger, clearer, with a much faster refresh rate.

  • If I buy this, I am going to sell my Nikon D5100. Any takers?

    • Is it a twin pack? how much ?

  • Dam I just bought the Olympus epm2 and it was $196 after cash back but only has 1 lens.

    • Where did you get it from? Is it still available?

    • it was a good deal that one

    • I think you still got a better deal. The PM2 has a much better sensor.

  • the bag looks good, should be good for my Pentax Q, wondering where to buy it separately

  • +1

got a pink for the wife, very good price, she always wanted something like this, my DSLR is way too heavy for her, thanks OP!!

  • nice!

  • +1

I wouldn't buy from this seller based on his feedback. too many negative and neutral in my opinion.

  • +2

Tempted to get this and sell the lenses and just use it as my c-mount shooter but I've bought so much camera crap lately my wife is gonna murder me. Good deal.

    • +1

If you're seriously considering it, I'd be willing to buy the 30-110 off of you! Only if you get white of course ;)

  • +3

    Got one,

R.I.P meteorite, because my wife is going to kill me!

    • it will be fine…just hope you ordered PINK and tell her it is for her!

    • +2

So we looking for a cheap funeral now then?

      • +3

Hide it in your car boot and bring it out on your birthday.

        • I like this one

  • Can anyone here speak to the gripes in the following review?

    http://www.sansmirror.com/cameras/a-note-about-camera-review…

Not being full-bottle on cameras, and wanting something nice for my 15 yr. old daughter who is very interested in art & photography, I want to get the most for least- in case it turns out to be the interest-dujour…

    Cheers

    • Thom is a good reviewer, never afraid to critique, you can take it for face value fairly safely. The mode dial has not been a huge deal for me, occaisionally it will be bumped out of position, grip wise it is small/light that it really has not bothered me. As for IQ, well I have no real complaints, everything feels inferior in low light to a full frame DSLR (like a Nikon D700), and I have found that I am happy enough to leave it in aperture priority with only the occaisional need to apply exposure compensation.

It may be worth having a look at hte Fuji XA1

      http://www.digidirect.com.au/slr_cameras/fujifilm/fujifilm_x…

The J1 is good but it is not for manual control…too fiddly the Fuji is more expensive but a definite step up in image quality and control.

  • is this deal that good? the first eBay related suggestion gives the same pack for $5 more but new Australian stock rather than refurbished.

    • Except the one you mention does not come with the extra lens and bag

The extra lens costs 195 dollars itself

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Nikon-1-Nikkor-VR-30-110mm-f-3-8-…

      • Right you are! sorry, I was on my phone and it was hard to read all the details.

    • Provide the eBay link and we can have a look.

  • How does this compare with the E-PM2? I just got one from the digidirect sale the other week, but the lenses with this deal are tempting.

    • If you have an EPM2 then just wait for a deal in a 40-150mm there may be a cash back on that lend as week so double check.

  • noone worry about this is Refurbished camera.

  • i don't know if i should writer this here but we selling brand new d5100 twin lens kit on ebay for $599 if anyone interested only 6 available and comes with bonus bag , Never used or refurbished sealed brand new also in vic 3-5 business day you get it or pick up same day:)

    • make it $300 and you've got a deal :)

  • This camera is very nice. Especially for video. Silent auto focus is extremely fast for video.

  • Thanks OP, I picked up one last night(silver version). It will be a big improvement over my tiny Panasonic point and shoot. Black, silver and pink are sold out this morning, only white and red left.

  • Can anyone recommend a memory card for this camera.

    • +1

Any Class 10 card should do fine as long as you buy from a reputable dealer and a reputable brand. I personally use Sandisk ones that I picked up from MemoryCity now PcByte.

  • Thanks op, bought it. I have an old Nikon D70S, but sometimes it's to bulky to carry around, so this will be my point-and-shoot.

  • Just impulse bought this yesterday and regretting it :/, anyone want to buy it? will charge you no more then I paid + shipping.

    • Why are you regretting? Should be decent P&S camera

      • Just doubt i will use it that much as I already have some camera gear at home.

        • I might be interested in just the 30-110 lens, PM if you are willing to sell separately.

    • Interested in the 30-110 lens too if JetLi (hehe) hasn't already snapped it up!

      • its ok, it's all yours.

  • What memory card does it use?

  • Considering selling my Nikon D3000 with Dual lens kit fund the purchase of one of these as I don't use it very often due to the size.

Quality wise would I expect to lose much?

    • +1

The best camera is the camera that you're going to use…. so better to have a not as good but smaller camera if it means you can take it with you everywhere.

I have both Nikon V1 and J1, very very happy with image quality but low light you can't increase the ISO as much without it getting grainy.

I had the same issue with my DSLR and not taking it with me…. since getting the V1 I take it with me everywhere and take probably 3 times as many photos!

One issue you'll have with the J1 is no viewfinder, in bright light you might find it difficult to see the screen

  • Has anyone received theirs yet? or know when it's expected to arrive?

    • Mine was shipped a week ago and is still in the US according to the tracking info.

      • Looks like its just been delivered to the middle man that sends it to me.

        • Mine has delivered to Hebron, KY. This is slow as hell

        • the same here.
          Hebron, KY 41048

  • I received mine today

    • is it refurbished or new… cheers

      • +2

It came in a refurbished box. No original box for the lenses just a refurbished box for 30-110 lens and one for the camera and 10-30 lens. Tiny scratch on the body, but otherwise mint.

Will check the camera after charging the battery and let you guys know.

    • What date did you buy it on.
