YES ITS SUPPOSED TO PRIME THE POD!!!

  • Found the box of pods…just no machine in store. Lol

    • +1

Did you make an offer on the pods?

      • I offered a smile, and then they went looking for machines…found a customer at the counter with a machine and no pods…I thought 'uh oh…' But then they looked up and found an extra 13 machines at the top of the racks which weren't in the computer, so me and the other guy both walked out with pods and machines after convincing the skeptical staff that indeed the box of pods was all part of the deal.

We've got a caffinity machine at home already…so this will be a holiday/backup one for the price of the pods. Nice.

  • Is there a reusable pods for Map? Any one have idea how good is the reusable pods are?

    • Reusable pods are the latest Irish invention.

  • +2

To all the people that missed out on this deal, WELL DONE!

    My review:

    1. Coffee squirts out sideways (thought I fixed it, but now it's back).

    2. When you power up the machine each time and put a new pod in, you get only a quarter of the amount of coffee you should. Each subsequent pod you get the full amount, as long as you don't power it down!

    3. Machine drips around 20ml of water a minute after you've poured a coffee.

    4. Residue from previous pod is carried over on your next pour.

    5. AND HERE"S THE KILLER: Put a large cup on the holder to pour a long black, and when it got to half full, the cup & holder collapsed from the weight and fell forward!! Lucky my kid wasn't under it! Yes, the entire holder came away from the machine. Try it with your hand - doesn't take much weight to dislodge it.

Making a phone call to the 1800 number tomorrow. I hope they take this back. It's dangerous to say the least.

Conclusion: piece of crap! (not your post earth, but the machine).

    TA.

Mine is great. No issues here and it's good coffee :)

      • Maybe I just go a dud? I'm lucky that way.

    • Sounds like you got a dodgy unit.

When you power up the machine each time and put a new pod in, you get only a quarter of the amount of coffee you should. Each subsequent pod you get the full amount, as long as you don't power it down!

If this is true, I would suggest pouring a cup with no pod inserted first. Do this every time you power on.

Machine drips around 20ml of water a minute after you've poured a coffee.

Definitely does not sound like it's working as intended.

Residue from previous pod is carried over on your next pour.

Should be fixed by doing the above.

I would return it to OW for a replacement or refund. They are good with their return policy.

      • Cheers lostn. Biggest concern is the falling cup!

        • Agree. Didn't notice this before I posted below.
I might have to secure it with something. Maybe a velcro tape?

        • Sounds like a major design oversight. That might be why the unit is being cleared out.

        • Why does a large cup tip the tray over? Is it the weight of the cup or its contents? I figure an espresso is only 40ml, so how are you filling that cup? If it's the weight of the cup that it can't bear, then it seems like an inexcuseable oversight.

        • +2

Hi lostin. It happened this morning even with a small coffee cup. It's a combination of the vibrating/rattling and the extra weight as it's filling up. Definitely not keeping this unit. Will be calling MAP later today.

    • +1

I was thinking of posting a review, but didn't want to crap on something free (the machine).

      Agreeing with your experiences. ..
      1. Yep. 45deg to the right. Love the nozzle height, fits big cups easily (vittoria is lucky to fit a polystyrene cup), but there's splatter everywhere.
      2. I'd say 50%
      3. Keeps dripping, teasing not to take the cup away (leaving mess in catcher to clean)
      4. I've been rinsing after each shot, new machine and all. I should rinse first, problem 2&4 solved.
      5. Noticed that out-of-box. Need to push on the middle/back of the pod catcher, as opposed to the drip catcher.

Loud machine. Pumps for 1-2sec, pause, then continues. Lever is cheap & clunky. Maybe 1 in 5 pods get stuck on spike. I like the suction cups beneath.

Unless I'm wrong, the pods are free (?). Machine return, free 140 pods kept??

    • Yup agree with number 5 very much. Isn't really locked in place. Large Cup heavy enough to have the holder come away from the machine. Small cup vibrates the cup to the end of the metal plate.

  • Bought this on the way to.work today… Well worth it. It's loud but the coffee they supply is pretty good. The 140 caps come in a separate box. They had about 4 left in the melb elizabeth street today. The girl at the desk said it wasn't working online because the code wasn't right… She had to scan something else to put it through.

    Great catch op. Thanks.

  • Anyone know how much 140 pods normally costs?

    • I think they typically around 60 cent a pod?

      • +1

That's $84. Is the 60 cents when it's on special, or normal price?

        • Normal price I think is about that for the map ones, I think they come on special for around 40 cents each.

  • Just got mine. Runs hot water through, but when I put a pod in, it pumps for a while and then the red light flashes.
At this point I can force the handle back open (significantly harder than usual), and the pod pops down along with the water its been trying to pump through it.
Am I missing something that's not mentioned in the setup, or is this just broken?

    • Don't run hot water through it just needs cold water. Fill it up with cold water the manual says red light means not enough water is in the water tank.

      • I don't mean I put hot water in, I just mean when I run it without a capsule hot water comes out the spout.
It seems like it's not piercing the back (??) of the capsules. It leaves a pressurised mess in the barrel full of hot water, where the front side has been broken in but nothing can get out the back.

Think I will take it back, pretty confident its buggered!

        • +1

Could be buggered, the warranty card says don't bring it back to the place of purchase though.

        • Does any water come out?

I tried making one and some water came out (not sure if the entire 60mls came out though) but the red light started flashing.

Tasted okay but dunno if it's faulty.

        • +1

Did you remember to remove the red coloured plug from the water tank?
You are suppose to remove and dispose it. It says on the sticker on the tank.

        • +1

Same and yes I removed the plug. These machines feel dodge compared to the Nespressos

        • They also cost a lot less than Nespressos, which have an entry level RRP of $250.

        • Agreed. I now have this machine, the $50 (half price at coles 2 wks ago) Vittoria, and $580 all in one nespresso ~4 years ago. All very different.

Nespresso is my favourite by far for flavour & quality etc. But the other two are very hard to knock at massive discount compared to nespresso.

        • +1

Mate got the $78 one from HN after cash back WITH frother (see previous OzB post) …and also the $89 after cash back previously. OzBargainers don't believe in RRP, a swear word for every deal hunter.

        • -1

Yeah well, how much does it cost today?

        • Hmm, same thing is happening here and it's only the second time I used it. I was trying to convince gf that a second coffee machine was worthwhile if it is a bargain, then I went to demonstrate its merits and the machine seriously let me down…red lights flashing and bit of spluttering. Totally got the I told you so look. On a positive note the capsules fit in an Aldi expressi machine.

  • Decided it was time I stopped lurking around and start contributing, starting with a vote for now.
Picked one up from store as I was unable to order it online

  • Had at least 7 machines left at 6pm, at the Windsor store in Brisbane for anyone interested. Quite surprised they weren't

Major disadvantage is the amount of decaf caps I got in the box :(

    • +1

Is it all random? Some people said they got no decafs at all.

      • Your joking :( why did I get so much decaf !
And yeah it looks pretty random

        • I got no decafs in mine. Some other people got none either. That explains why some unlucky people like you got so many decafs.. you got ours.

    • Yeah got 40 decafs from Windsor as well out of 140. :(

    • I got 20 decaf… I guess I'll give them a go, and just feel guilt free if I have two cups a day :P or could swap… Bought from Milton QLD.

  • Why they advertise next day delivery if they can't deliver it today (as ordered yesterday) ? In my order confirmation, Delivery date is 5/6. Furn date is 9/6. What is Furn Date ? Anybody knows ?

  • +1

Tried one and noticed some coffee sediment.
The cup holder is a bit unstable with no support underneath.

  • bought, thanks OP.

  • There was an entire wall of them at Croydon, SA at about 8pm.

Just waiting at KFC to pick up my 12 pieces for $12 and swung past Dan Murphy's just before to pick up two slabs of Kopparberg for $30.

This is a very OzBargain week

    • I think I saw you. We've tried it and it is definitely better than instant coffee.

  • +1

Mine arrived today, they had the separate box of 140 capsules taped to the coffee machine box plus another box of 140 pods. Did anyone else get 280 capsules with their online order?

    • +3

Nope but nicely scored bro. Someone made a boo boo…

    • Jackpot mate, 1 year of coffee supply for $59

    • You lucky Sod :) good on ya!

  • Any cheap deals on Milk Frothers? Also does a milk frother really add much to a coffee?

  • Bought two on the way home from work, one to replace an old Woolworths machine and one for my wife to take to work. Picked up from Officeworks in Virginia, QLD and they had 5-6 left at that time.

My wife reports that it works well and the coffee is not too bad compared to the Caffitaly pods she gets from WW, so not a bad score at all. Thanks OP!

  • +2

Ordered it at about 11pm (2 Jun), arrived home from work the next day and was happy to see the box waiting for me even though I ordered it late at night!

Never had a coffee machine before and was super excited.
Read/followed instructions and enjoyed my first cup of my very own pod coffee!

I guess I'm new to the it all, so didn't realise these machines don't do the milk, but it makes sense since it's so cheap and compact.

Anyway, It's now past midnight and I can't sleep because I tried the Venezia (strong) pod. You can probably tell from my tone, that I'm bouncing off the walls :)

    Thanks again OP.

    Now I need a frother.

    • For the Caffitaly System, some machines do milk, some don't.
They usually expect you to buy a milk frother separately.

As for the Nescafe system, it does milk, but you require 2 pods per cup (1 coffee pod, 1 milk pod), which is silly as it makes it really expensive.

      • On the plus side, it's fast and automatic and doesn't require cleaning the frother.

  • Sydney CBD stores are all sold out :(

  • In the instruction manual under the cleaning section it states there is a empty pod used for cleaning provided with the machine. Does anyone know if they got one of these?

    • Saw that too. No sign of it with my unit.

    • So without the empty pod that it mentions, do you reckon it is sufficient to just press the full shot button without a pod? That's what I've done after use.

  • I tried the two OWs near me. They both had the machine in stock but none of the bonus pods. Both of them mentioned that they'd heard it had been 'posted on some website called OzBargain' :)
OW's website still shows the deal and that there is stock at the stores I visited. A bit misleading if you ask me.

  • anyone looking for a machine in Sydney I am going to sell mine for the same price. I didnt open the box and I dont know why I bought it in the first place. I have Aldi machine and I am happy with it.

if you are interesting pm, or I am going to return it in the weekend

  • For fun, I counted the pods I received.
I thought it would be interesting to see the distribution.
    For anyone curious:

    Venezia (strong): 10
    Portofino (medium): 10
    Milano (mild): 20
    Decaf: 20
    Fair Trade: 40
    Single Origin: 40

    I'm glad I didn't receive mostly decaf.

    • Hahaha I got no decaf! Wouldn't have minded some really though… Dammit!

      • What's your favourite pod?

I've only had Venezia and Single Origin so far.
Not sure which of those wins, but I love this new toy :)

        • Only tried single origin. Trying to get a good mix between an empty cup and a crap coffee!

    • +1

I got the same mix, not sure what I will do with decaf pods

    • Exactly the same mix for me.

    • Sam mix here.

    • Just counted mine and I got an extra 20 single origin (60 total) instead of the decaf.

  • -3

I think I'm also going to sell mine, it's unopened under my desk. Was going to give it to somebody as a present but they already have a coffee machine. I'm near the office works on Clarence. Would need it picked up ASAP before the end of this week. PM me

    • Just sold it - FYI!

  • +1

just got mine from Highett Vic. The shelf was full (10 or more units) and plenty of the boxes of capsules

  • Carnegie, Melbourne has around 5 machines and 5 boxes of capsules. I'm thinking of returning mine since I already have a nespresso machine.

  • just called Carlton NSW store and was told none left in NSW on there system? Tryed to sell me some Nescafe machine for $131 .. um no thanks!

    • +1

It's my understanding that Officeworks staff use the internet site to check stock, whether it be out of laziness or poor training. And I can see the site says that Carlton NSW still have stock … So someone is lying. ;)

      • Nope. They have a SAP system which is a bit more accurate. Both are a little iffy though because any faulty stock or holds are still counted in the computer's stock levels. So for example if they had no stock available for sale of an item, but 1 on hold, and 2 faulty awaiting RLO (return codes), the computer system will still say there are 3 in stock. Always call ahead! I'm an ex-employee and used to deal with it daily. Very annoying. Ring up, ask them to check "SAP" and give them the item code, and then ask them to locate it in store if there is stock showing. SAP will show them every store in the states stock level. If you are willing to travel, ask them to check which stores do have stock showing (then call ahead and double check with that store before going).

  • thanks ryang that is what i gathered also. might go in with there free wifi and ask some questions and see what they say. shows all stores in my area stock held

  • +3

If anyone in Sydney looking for one, I was at Penrith store at lunch and they still have about 6 machines, they sit near the entrance so you won't miss it.
The free pods are sitting above them.

  • Hi, my family currently have a nespresso coffee pod machine and use there nespresso, and i we purchased this deal but are now concerned about the flavor/ quality of the coffee. would anyone happen to know the comparison between this coffee and nespresso coffee?

    • +2

Having had nespresso coffee at work for awhile now, I feel the taste of the MAP pods have a better punch to it and is palatable without milk.

    • +1

I tried mine last night and to me it is not as good as my Nespresso machine, but still ok, especially for the price.
Does not give the same rich frothy crema that I get from my Nespresso pods.

      • But is that a result of the pods or the machine? I'd assumed it was the latter - otherwise I've got 130 pods of average coffee left!! lol

  • +1

Still (just) in stock in WA (Oconnor had 3 left). I'm getting a second one for the office :)

Also, tried my machine and the coffee was (IMO) better than nespresso. I think it's also compatible with lavazza pods as they look like they're the same shape? As an extra selling point, Map are an aussie coffee company!

    • Yes, you can use the following pods in this machine as they all use the caffitaly system:
      - Woolworths Select
      - Lavazza
      - Twinnings
      - Gloria Jeans
      - more…

  • Struggling. ………..to look at buy………….damn it now im at officeworks and they have one..no pods

  • +1

Got red light first time using it….

  • hey there bought in - seems no probs with my unit - makes a decent tasting cuppa

it is a damn good looking machine - love the black chrome sleek look

our pods good mix no Venezio's tho

none left in QLD - decided to check OW in Bris City this morning and staffer looked it up

  • Add to Cart not available although it still shows stock at local stores ?

  • +1

    Woohoo no decaf!

    Venezia green (strong): 10
    Portofino red (medium): 10
    Milano black (mild): 20
    Decaf ?: 0
Fair Trade light green : 40
    Single Origin orange: 60

  • Two machines and one capsule box left at Campbelltown at 0930.

    My contents
    Portofino (medium): 10
    Milano (mild): 60
    Decaf: 30
    Single Origin: 40

    • You only got 4 varieties? Wow.

The guy above you got 6.

I would have thought all the pods were in a barrel (like with Oz Lotto) and drawn randomly but every variety comes in quantities that are multiples of 10.

  • Rang the local Officeworks store in Kewsick SA. They had 8 in stock so went down and picked one up. Pods were kept on a shelf up above

  • Tried first time with cold milk, yuck.
Second time heated milk in microwave for a minute or two first, much better. Think I'll grab one of those $3 ikea frothers when I get a chance.

  • What color are the decaf pods? Do they have a fancy italian name, or do they just say decaf?

I can't seem to find any decafs in my box. I'm hoping I lucked out and got no decafs.

    I got:

    40x Fair Trade
    10x Venezia (only 10 sadly)
    10x Portofino
    20x Milano
    60x Single Origin

I have no idea on the strength of Fair Trade and Origin. I hope these Origin ones taste good, because I got so many of them.

    • Decaf are Dark blue with Light blue lid and they just say Decaffinated on the lid

  • +4

FYI, anyone looking to work out the strengths of the capsules see here:

The 2nd page of the PDF gives you a relative guide of the strengths.
