A few reviews here :
http://www.techradar.com/au/reviews/pc-mac/tablets/asus-memo…
http://www.pcauthority.com.au/Review/363014,review-asus-memo…
http://www.engadget.com/products/asus/memo/pad/hd-7/

Short summary of reviews :
A tablet that punches above its weight (at the retail price of $199) with an excellent screen and great battery life
Mediocre camera (but who really buys a tablet for its camera???)
Slightly plastic body

I think its a great buy for $99, and from an established manufacturer, but i'll leave it open for the community to discuss =)

The usual $5 off coupon for subscribing to their emails as well.

Maybe grab 2 for $163 if you use the coupon and managed to sign up for the Amex Deal below https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/146939 - $30 credit on spend of $150+ until june 30th at HN
Any other professional suggestions?
Maths included for reference purposes : $99 + $99 - $5 (coupon) - $30 (Amex Credit) = $163

Enjoy!

Edit: There are two types of Memo Pad with 7" screen
-Asus Memo Pad (CPU VIA WM8950 with 1024x600 Screen,1 GB Ram, has only one front camera, has 8/16GB Storage)

Well I just bought 400, assorted colors and a swizel stick PLUS I got $5 off with my new fake email.
EDIT: I am sure he's just jokin' around in very low-ball trolly way, wouldnt take him literally.

      • -3

The jokes on you because those of us that bought just 2 with amex deal will undercut you and still come out ahead.

  • +2

bargain! do they update the OS at all or doesn't it really matter.

    • +3

the Engadget review mentions "ASUS tells us it will upgrade the HD 7 to Android 4.3 in the near future", but that "the new OS doesn't represent a night-and-day experience"

      • So no hope for Kit Kat?

        • +1

          ASUS and their promises!
          got burnt with their Prime….

        • +1

I rarely (+) JV, but I honestly don't understand why people are (-) him.

  • +2

Was fearing 512mb RAM, but in fact its 1GB! MicroSD is a bonus.

    • Yep the good guys is where I saw it

    • ha, good find!

thought the GG stock was the Memo 7 (Model ME172), with a lower resolution (600 x 1024 pixels) vs the HD 7 (Model ME173) with a higher resolution of 600 x 1024 pixels + IPS display, but i can see they are the same

but looks like blue only for the GG. i guess if you want other colors, more choice at Harvies!

      • +1

Model Number: ME173X-1B045A at TGG. Same product. The memo pad without HD is not quad core and has 8|16GB version. A few people already got confused so I went to check with Asus website.

  • +2

    Not bad at all!

    Also $99 at Good Guys.

I think this has the Nexus 7 (2012) shell with the Asus android skin over the top - Different CPU too.

Comes with Android 4.2 out the box. Upgradeable to 4.2.2

    • +3

think this is the Nexus 7 (2012

No. MemoPad and Nexus are two completely different tablets.

    • -2

The one from your link is not the same MemoPad. This one is HD and that one isn't.

      • +1

Nah, same model number same product. Already confirmed from Asus website.ME173X-1B045A

      • The GG model number is listed as ME173X-1B045A, which is the same as the HN one.

  • +1

Bought from Coles early this year for $12X :(

    • +2

Still a great price for the time

    • +1

      Coles ones were only 8GB

      • Also only 2 or 3 MP camera on the 8GB Coles model.

  • +3

+1 for detailed explanation. Excellent price.

  • +6
    • that makes it $94+ free pick up in store. Thanks OP bought one in blue.

      • +5

I'd rather buy from TGG. If HN run out off stock they then take weeks to refund your money.

I'm betting you love your CC's?

  • +5

already got tablet but bought this one anyway - don't know why… figure it out later.

  • so is this dual core or quad pc authority review says dual….The HD 7’s weak spot is its core hardware. Inside its smart chassis resides a slow-cooking dual-core 1.2GHz MediaTek CPU

    • +3

It only takes a few seconds to read the description, yet a lot more time to ask a question that does not need to be answered ;)

      • thanks buddddy xxxxxxx

  • Bought 2 thanks OP.

  • +2

Ahh so tempting!! Got the Acer Iconia B for $99 from Bing Lee last year this time. It has served me well but it's crapping out now with newer programs/not enough storage. This has more RAM. The issue with the Acer is it has run out of storage space? Not sure how I can fix that! Looks like it's a fixed amount for certain programs? I have a 32GB SD in it. This has more RAM but it doesn't seem to be a RAM issue?

If you've signed up to the newsletter before, just signup again using another email address and you can get the $5 off once more….just did it with another email account I have :) http://www.harveynorman.com.au/email-signup

    • Yep I bought my 2 using different email address'!

    • Should have told me earlier!

  • -5

    No GSM :(

  • This model's specs comparable to Acer A1-810?

    • -1

This screen craps over the acer.

      • A1-810 has HDMI out though, something that getting rare and handy for my Yoga App

  • Bought one and just realised this doesn't have video out. The only way to get video out is miracast ?

  • +2

Just got iPad mini for $199 at Target in USA, but waiting for shipping. This price is also very tempted.

  • +2

I bought 2 as well. Crap, at this rate, I'm going to have 5 tablets and I will need to offload some of them soon.

    • +1

    • Should be a unique one.

    • Took about 5 minutes for me for the sign up email to arrive.

It's a unique code as well.

    • +1

Still waiting for mine too. 10 mins and counting now

  • Thanks OP :)

  • Noone asks where to get a case etc? Or too cheap to care about breaking it?

  • So the question is, what colour?

    • pink!

      • Hehe, I got pink. :)

  • I am new to tablets and have read the reviews but I can't quite make out if you can use this tablet without wifi, using my own data which I would purchase. For my use(reading digital newspapers when travelling on the bus or train) I need to have it always connected to the internet (don't know whether you can call that cellular or non cellular) Can you buy data for this tablet? I would appreciate if somebody can advise me, thanks.

    • Nope, this tablet doesn't support sim cards, the only way to connect to the internet is via wifi.

    • You can either use the Wifi Hotspot from your mobile or a Mobile Broadband Modem.

    • +1

These tablets don't have 'cellular' i.e. you can't put data sim cards in them and use them to browse online whilst not connected to a wifi. If you want to be connected online 'on the go' you can either:

      1. use your mobile phone as a 'data hotspot' provided your mobile plan has a decent data allowance; or
      2. use a mobile broadband modem like the one at this link (was recently on sale at target for <$40): http://www.vodafone.com.au/personal/wireless-internet/mobile…
      • Hey neat! I'll use my home virgin wireless broadband

    • wifi through ur phone.
      edit : opps….. too late.

    • one way is use your phone as modem and connect via your phone you can use this anywhere.

  • +1

Is it only me or HN site is having problems adding this to the cart?

    • +3

me too…until i selected a different color. Try that

      • that worked.. thanks!

        • +2

no probs; and pink is just soo you

  • +2

Wow, thanks for all the feedback. FOX, fchis, ccrap and edgar28, you guys rock!
