EOFYS Spintel Phone & ADSL2+ Bundles Double Data $39.95/Month + $25 Credit & $25 Referral Credit

71

I have been using Spintel for 2 years now and the quality of service has been excellent. No down time, good service when signing up. Never had to call them again since sign up. Used to be with Telstra, then moved to extel (which was abit slower than Telstra) and then to club telco (which was better) and now with Spintel and the speed is exactly the same as Telstra.

  • Is their service compatible with back-to-base alarms?

    • +1

Yes as it is a PSTN line :)

  • Is there any pick/off-pick time for internet data?

    • No peak/off peak times, though they don't count uploads :)

      • +1

Thanks. Hows your plan is different from TPG plan which gives me unlimited data + home phone line for $60 a month?

  • parents are with them, after Telstra fixed a damaged line they have average speed and good reliability. Approx 7mbps, 600m from exchange. We could switch but mrs doesn't want to risk taking a hit on our current speed

    • Its up to personal choice. I was worried about changing at first too but once I did, i didn't know why I didn't change earlier

    • +1

Sorry to tell you but those speeds are woeful.
I am 2.3km from exchange and get 10Mbps.

      • +2

I would not hesitate to kill either of you for those speeds, I'm on 350kbps.

        • +1

          Mate, I'm sitting on a solid 300kB/s
Tried 3 providers, no change in speed. I was hopeful for NBN but I guess 360p streaming all the way

        • kbps <> kB/s

          350kbps = 37.5kB/s

so if BTRaynes really has 350kbps connction, you're about 8 times better off than they are ;)

      • Um what? i live about the same as you and get 1mbps with iprimus…
everyone keeps saying with that distance the slow speed is to be expected.

    • +1

i wouldnt want to live in your area with speeds like that only 600 mtrs from the exchange.
i live just over 4 klms from my exchange and i get over 10mbps.

    • -2

If you switch to Internode that will most likely double the speed. 7mbps 600m from exchange sounds like there are other 2 people on the same port sharing 21mbps.

      • Err you don't 'share' a DSLAM port..

The low sync speed would basically be down to the quality of the copper line, even though it's a short run, it's obviously just a very poor quality line.

  • Is the double data already included in the deal above?

I was just looking at their previous new year's deal ozbargain - seems like quotas were a lot higher (they had a 400gb plan), and call rates were cheaper as well - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/129809

    • I agree, the data has come down, but the difference now is that they allow you to change your plan month to month and can pick and choose from their phone plans and also have free porting

  • +1

I like how you can switch up the plans. Ie 200gb data but still have the cheapo line cost.
Tempted to change to save $60 a year but I'm quite happy not being on a contract..
Not to mention speeds taking a hit

  • +2

Their regional pricing is substantially different, they've been running bait & switch promotions on pricing for a year, they DO NOT respond to phone calls even when they threaten disconnection (by anonymous SMS with no option to reply, usually on a Friday afternoon), charge an arbitrary (multiple)$15 fee for late payments even if they're at fault & oh yeah, ban you from their Facebook page while retaining you as a customer if they don't like what you have to say. NOT a good company.

  • Exetel give you 100GB for the same price.

  • Bumping applies to the broadband data options and simply means that we’ll automatically move you to the next size up when you reach 100% of your data. So if 40GB was quickly used up, we’ll bump you up to 100GB. Easy.

As an added bonus, if you’re bumped up part-way through a billing month, you’ll get to enjoy the new full amount of data. So if you’re bumped up from 100GB to 400GB halfway through the month, you’ll instantly have access to the full 400GB for the rest of that month. Yay!

Bumping up continues in this way until you reach the XL option of unlimited data.

In other words, if you go over your limit they will auto-upgrade you to the next tier without your say, and charge you for it. What's the bet that it is a pain to switch back to your previous plan.

    • +1

was thinking the same, the whole idea of shaping downloads is for that odd month of heavy data usage you still have a (slower)connection but without the bill shock

Sorry, gonna neg this - nothing personal OP - just be warned everyone:

They are great at the start, and you're right - you'll never hear from them again!
I called up as my contract was ending to tell them that I wanted it to stop since we were moving.
A six weeks later, another phonecall because another bill arrived.
The guy on the phone listens to the previous phone call and says what I was asking was vague and the girl didnt realise I wanted to end the contract.
He promises to end the contract for me.
A month later, another bill - he put in a standard end in 30 days request (6 weeks after the contract ended!)
So 2.5 months extra bills even though we didnt even live there any more!

    Never using SpinTel again…

    • Simple answer to that if true is to report them to the TIO and get your bank to claim your payment back.

  • Not sure why but i can't sign up to the urban option of $74.95. I can only sign up to the metro option for $94.95

    • (Assuming you're in the urban area) They've got some strange (incorrect) details in their telephone number database.

Had the same issue. Had to call them up. The operator checked and overrode a friend I helped into the right region. Though they still didn't correct their rules so we can't make changes online… a bit annoying.

  • fax machine ok?

    • I can confirm fax works fine.

  • Is this really an EOFY sale or is it always this price?
