      $15K on Black

(which sounds like the coolest bet I'd ever make at a roulette table)

      • 6k on platinum

      • -7

i got $23000 on the black

        Current total CC limits combined is $23000 (ANZ Black) + $23000 (citibank) + $20000 (Amex) + $10000 (HSBC) + $4000 (Coles Myer) + $15000 (Comm bank) + $15000 (Store cards)

        • +1

Out of curiosity, did you declare all the other cards in your application (or at least their total limit)?

        • @youknow: no, just said $10000

  • I have to send more details. I guess they didn't believe me :/

  • Given the offers available with the Black, wouldn't you sign up for that, given its fee free for the first year?

    • If you've got the income and think you're likely to be approved for at least $15k

      • and don't want to apply for other forms of credit in the next 7 months (which is how long it could take to get the 50,000FF points (ie. before you cancel - if you do)

  • just applied for the black card, and got "we are unable to give you a final answer to your credit card application immediately as we need to verify your income details", emailed them 2 pay slips, waiting now.

    • I did the same. I was too lazy to find my pay slips though so I just sent a bank statement and a rent statement for my investment home.

I guess when they see I have a mortgage (debt) they don't auto process it.

      • +1

Think it's more complicated than that, mine went through automatically with a mortgage. I'm sure it's many factors they consider, annoyingly they treat your card limits with other banks as debts, even if you owe $0 which can be a major factor in not getting automatically approved.

        • +1

I think it's called potential debt. If I was going to give you a line of credit I would want to know how bed your situation could possibly get before lending you money.

        • Yeah that's a better word for it, basically look at the worst case scenario which is all those limits are maxed out.

        • Funnily enough, my wife got insta approved for a pretty big credit limit, even though she earns less than me and the investment house and car is in my name. She has a higher total credit card limit than me too. And I have a stack of cash in the bank

I have no idea how the financial mumbo jumbo works.

    • i am still waiting or the results of my application for citi signature. they finally contacted my company accountant to verify my income and employment status.

so some people do get approved immediately without any verification? i somehow read on that post of cici's that someone got approved in a couple of hours after he submitted the application. is that true or possible?

btw, i have the westpac black card.

  • Got approved for 6k - thanks

  • Weird, I signed up, and it's asked for income validation (which is easy, I've sent necessary information), but never had a problem with credit applications before. Anyway, thanks OP, great deal. "Money" for nothing really.

  • Help me understand below statement:

and utility bills paid in person at a bank or Australia Post or any bills paid using the Card in conjunction with the BPAY scheme (if the billing merchant does not accept credit card payment using the BPAY scheme).

is any of my internet, phone and private insurance bill considered as Cash Equivalent Transaction?
I used to pay them via direct debit and BPAY (to avoid CC fee).

Regarding the Black card, does it have Complimentary Overseas Travel and Medical Insurance as Platinum's?
and, 2 Complimentary Qantas Club Lounge, I assume that I have to be a member of Qantas Club?

    • 2 Complimentary Qantas Club Lounge is 2 one-off passes to get into the lounge. You don't need to be a member.

  • This is the response I got:

"We are unable to give you a final answer to your Credit Card application at this time, as further processing is required."

I didn't get ask for any further income evidence or any other paper work. I guess all the other unused debt in CC I have applied for but still haven't cancelled is weighing me down. EG HSBC (for the bonus 30K points), Citibank Signature (free for life) etc etc.

    • Think I'm in the same boat. Snapping up all the credit card deals eg. citi signature. Got the same answer to my application. Hopefully no need to send documents as it is a real hassle collecting everything( eg. investment income).

  • Black Card the way to go! thanks for sharing this great deal!

So, could you apply, spend $1500, pay in full (avoid interest), get your qff points (up to 4 months), then close the card =
    50,000 qff points (+1500 qff spend), &
    (pending black)
2 complimentary qclub lounge visits and access to some international lounges

Is there any fees for closing? … searched it
The account holder may close the credit card
account at any time by making a telephone
request to ANZ for closure of the credit card
    account

    • -5

i guess the reason this card gets so many upvotes is that people will do exactly what you mentioned.

personally, i am only interested in the signature/black cards that you do not pay annual fee for life. (citibank…)

      • -3

        two idiots…so far.

        • -3

          now three.

  • Black for free lounge access? Yes please! Good amount of lounges, great for those in Darwin who jet overseas to places like Singapore frequently!

    • Only 2 free passes per year (on request)
They waive Qantas Club joining fee - usually about $400 but you still need to pay annual fee of about $450 per year. You can often get joining fee waived anyway on special.

      • +1

I'm more interested in the free international lounges IAW http://www.anz.com/resources/2/5/257c91e2-1f9f-4efb-bf2d-b9a…

        • Sorry, I didn't see that.
          Looks interesting.
Have seen some like that in Asia that usually charge around $20 to enter.

      • are we automatically be a member once we got approved? i just got approved and i dont want to spend $450 for this (Qantas Club)

    Hi All,
Long time viewer first time poster. I am confused on which one to book. We are planning to go to USA in QFF in Sep/Oct this year and would be good if we can use the lounge.
Could you please let me know which card you guys recommend the black or the standard frequent flyer ? I would like to know the advantages of both the cards ? Once I get the 50,000 points and then ramp up to get the 70000 points to earn a silver status I would like to close the credit card as I do not want to get charged annually.

Hoping to get some help in deciding between the two cards …

    thanks a lot poster !!

    • None of these don't entitle you to USA lounges.
The black has two single qantas club passes.
Silver status is determined by status credits (flights) not points so you can 70,000 points and still be bronze.

      • Im bronze and am now about to crack 300,000 points

      • -1

ok guys so which one to pick Black one or the Frequent flyer one ?
So that I am right can someone comment on the below if I chose the black card ?

        1) I could spend $1500 in two months and get 50,000 QF points
        2) To avoid the annual fees I can just close the account in 4-5 months after getting 50,000 points
        3) Get two lounge visits which might be useful in LA (USA) in October ?
        4) What can I do with the 50,000 points
        5) do I get a free lifetime QF membership card ?

        • +1

          1) Yes
          2) You can close the account anytime after your points post and before your 1 year renewal date.
          3) You get two Qantas Club lounge visits on the Black Card only. You can only use them at Domestic Qantas Club lounges or International Business Lounges run by Qantas. Your best bet if you going to the USA and want lounge access is to get a 1 month American Airlines Admirals Club membership for $99. This allows you to enter all Qantas Club/International Business lounges in Australia and all Qantas/AA lounges in the USA, as well as take a partner in with you. This is best if your flying around the USA a bit, but if your only going to use it once, the 2 passes for free may be more suited.
          4) Gift Cards, appliances etc (Worst Value), Free flights (Ok Value), upgrade to business class (best Value).
          5) The deal provides you with free membership however this can be obtained for free through many links floating around, including woolworths everyday rewards.

          1. Funny to note that America is missing from this list

  • great deal

  • Must vote a "+". $50k points worth $500 at least on flight redemptions/upgrades. Thanks OP.

  • This page compares the 3 cards. It looks like the Platinum and Black earn 1.5 Qantas points for each $1 spent and the blue card earns 1 point per $1.

    http://www.anz.com/personal/credit-cards/compare-cards/?entr…

    Looks like a great deal.

I closed this account 2 weeks ago, in the hope a good offer would come along!! GOOD TIMES, another 50k qantas points and NO annual fee. This is the best deal in a while, and whats even better got approved for it instantly online!! Thanks OP.

  • my application will be refer to other dept, seems has been rejected :(

  • Don't worry, I closed the ANZ Platinum last week, had it for 2 years, 15K limit, still got referred while applying for the Black card. You should be ok.

  • I got the standard, "We are unable to give you a final answer to your Credit Card application at this time, as further processing is required." Any tips on what it may be as a result of? I've previously been told that my living expenses were too low (car loan) and they didn't believe me.

  • my application was also referred —> investment/no credit cared repayment/6 digits income
I was disappointed but then I checked my email after 5 minutes, it was then approved! yeah!
    so.. check your emails!

    • Same here. Got referred when I applied last night, just checked my email and have been approved. Only concern is it's been approved with a limit waaaaaaay more than what I wanted!

      • Same here - I was referred when I applied 2 hours ago however I just received approval email.

Thanks Op for giving me 50K points :)

      • That's why I went with basic, $1k limit. Doesn't weigh as heavily on report.

Just applied also for NAB basic ($65 for 20,000 points), and Jetstar Platinum ($69, 30,000 points, 2 lounge passes.

        :D

        • I went with $2k limit, for some flexiblity around spending the $1,500… got referred… :P Waiting game on now.

        • +1

          Just approved. Yay.

        • The jetstar one requires 5k spend by September. That's pushing it.

        • @juicedpixels: Jetstar one is $3k spend.

  • I Wanted 2K credit limit, but the drop down list begins with 6K :( I don't want to apply for a card over 2k limit. argghh..

EDIT: My mistake. ANZ Platinum offers Minimum credit limit of 6K. Got mislead by the title as the offer is available on all 3 cards (Anz FF, AnZ FF Platinum, AnZ FF Black)

    • +1

      Approved for 1K :) Thanks OP !!

  • Hm, I got rejected for the black card whilst listing my income as $80k and no expenses and standard answers that shouldn't trigger any alarms. Odd. Maybe it's because I've applied for like 5 credit cards over the last few years due to ozbargain (all of which got approved anyway). I did put "non disclosed" as my employer, though. Screw the bank calling my employer about this.

  • +1

Approved for the Platinum card, don't have to show anything apparently… Fantastic deal!

  • Mine didn't get approved instantly. It said that my application had been referred; but it did end up getting approved in the morning :)

  • How many credit cards per year are you guys signing up for?

  • Can they make it more confusing? New points and status system.

Thanks OP, applied! Now, I just have to wait for another 20% eBay deal to easily spend $1500.

  • I got mixed up and applied for Black rewards card and got approved. Then realised it should be qantas because of very low transfer rate of anz points to airline partners 3:1. Called them after 5 mins of approval. They advised me they can't swap the cards and I'll have to apply again. I tried to justify that if the other card is also approved anz would be a loser considering the promotion. Anyhow, applied again and risked another credit check and this time the application referred.

    • I applied for the Platinum in haste and didn't realise the offer was also valid for Black. I got approved immediately for the Platinum but they had to refer my Black application. Got a called today and my Black has now also been approved.

  • noob question, do you need an anz transaction account for this?

  • Just got approved with no extra info required. I presume I can link the Amex to Paypal and this counts as eligible purchases as it does on my Westpac card?

  • Hi All. I have an ANZ ANZ First Visa Credit Card.
Am I eligible for 50,000 QFFs deal ? Thanks.

  • Another noob question,

say i apply for the black card (meet the income criteria) but i fall short in the credit limit (due to having a number of other cards/loans) will it revert my application to something lower like the plat or frequent flyer?

Primarily after the points, but the other perks of the black are attractive, so unsure whether to apply for the basic card with a low limit or the black.

  • Applied for the standard Frequent Flyer card with $1K limit, got referred :(

    • got approval email 5 hours later

  • Now the question is this card with the points or the 16 months balance transfer for $17.6k from citibank?

    • Worth about $900 at today's interest rates - less taxes, of course.

I'd rather find another provider to get the interest free, and use this to get the points.

  • i put down that I had other cards with credit limit of $15,000.
Could that be the reason that I do not get approved on spot?? and waiting for their reply?

  • i applied for basic frequent flyer card, selected maximum credit available to me… got $15,000 credit limit and approved… is this going to negatively affect me down the track? could i call them ask for a black card instead…?

    • They can't transfer approved applications, but if you apply for another card, they could reallocate credit limit from your approved basic card to say a Platinum or to a Black. As you've opted for the maximum available credit limit, I doubt you'll get the Black approved. You stand a decent chance of getting the Platinum though (which has most of the perks of the Black).

      • thanks, would this $15,000 affect me down the track some way or another, whether it be negative or positive?

        • Yes it may impair your ability to secure credit (or at least the amount of credit) in the near future. I would suggest canceling unused card(s) or consider reducing the limit if you intend on getting a home loan.

  • I used to do all my banking with ANZ but left because the fee's aren't competitive. Apart from the fee's they are probably the best bank I have used.

Does anyone with an existing ANZ credit card know if they will waive the annual fee from year 2 if you ring up to cancel?

    Thanks

    • It's happened to me. Rang up to cancel, told them I never use it and person on the phone asked me to hold. A minute later, came back and said he's supervisor approved for 3 additional years for free without me even asking.

      • hmmm… think it'd be hard to call them and up the limit of my application, changing it to black?

      • I signed up for the platinum rather than the black hoping it will be easier for them to waive the annual fee in year 2. 1.5 points per $ on the amex is well worth keeping in my wallet.

  • Thanks, was just approved for the black card.
Online told me last night they will call me and they just did.
The two things that raised flags were $0 monthly mortgage repayment (my offset account is full until my investment property settles) and $0 balance on existing credit cards.
After the lady was satisfied with those responses she approved me and I'll have the cards soon.

    Thanks OP!

  • Applied yesterday, referred email. ANZ rang today, queried a few things, then approved the Platinum card. 50,000 points here I come! :)

  • It is still not clear to me if current ANZ First Visa Credit Card holders are eligible for 50,000 QFF points ? Thanks.

    • +1

You can apply for a separate card and if you are approved then you'll be eligible. You can't transfer an existing card.

      • Thanks.

23 Years of Age, 40 Second Approval. We live in a dangerous world of credit.

    • +1. No questions asked on what I claim to possess, and no request for documentation. The phone call was just to confirm that I wanted two cards (Black and Platinum).

  • The people who got a call about your application, was it from a +44 number? I missed a call earlier and they didn't leave a message.

    • +1

      No I got a call from 03 86930000

  • Do you not get free travel insurance with black?

      • Also, reading the conditions, you only need to spend $250 on flights, travel or accommodation pertaining to your trip to be eligible for the complimentary International travel insurance. So if you've recently picked up a bargain flight with a different card, pay for accommodation, transfers or tours and you get free insurance.

  • +1

Approved but will need to contact them to decrease the limit (26k!)
