    • 26K? Nice. I'm guessing the Black Card!

Approved, thanks OP. Another card to add to the collection haha. Now to find $1.5k of stuff to buy…

  • +1

    point of advice.
I got knocked back. I asked the gentleman if it's because my 2 other credit cards limit is $15,000. and he said "YES". maybe it is also to do with my outstanding 250k mortgage with weekly repayment of $400 and monthly spend of $1000.

I kinda made up these figures. I dont have any outstanding credit card debt, mortgage has +ve credit balance as I have more money in the offset account than my loan. monthly spending I am roughly on 3~5k.

So if you want a fast approval, I dont know how thoroughly they check, just ….LIE a little bit about your credit limit. save the hassle. As long as you dont go nuts with your credit card.

    spend wise!

Will try re-apply again….hopefully this time will work.

    • just not sure if I should cancel my MYER card (which has no rewards program)…..then that should bring my credit limit down to 10k .

  • Got approved for 29k.

    • +2

      $29,000 credit limit?????

how much you put down you earn? 200K?

      • Yes, that is some crazy amount, I put my earnings as $450,000 :)

No, seriously less than $100k with minimal expenses.

        • Are you a woman by any chance?
My gf and I both applied for a credit card in the past - I earn about $10K higher than her, have similar expenses/credit and I have greater assets.
          She got $10K credit, I got $7K.

        • +1

          @massafiri: Not yet :)

    • When I applied, I chose the minimum. Now I'm wondering what would have happened if I'd applied for more. I don't need more but for some unfathomable reason I now have credit limit envy.

  • +1

Referred, then 2 hours later, approved :) …now to cancel some other cards! Thanks OP

I have a earth black card with westpac which has $15,000 limit.. which i pay off monthly.. i didn't even mention i had it.

I also ticked that i have savings, own my home, but in the box about savings i seen the optional asterix to list the $x value of my savings so left it empty.. I didn't want to tell them.. i also only ask for 1000$ credit on the standard Frequent Flyer card.

Funny after all this and my wage they still refereed it but woke up this morning to a email i been approved.

After I collect my points i will be closing my account, I did the same for my wife so 100,000 points my way soon which will boost my Qantas total points to about 450,000 :D

    • You fraudster you..

      • Not really only lied about not having any other credit cards… can prove everything else.

        • Yes really!

However its unlikely to cause you any problems unless you default on your payments and it gets looked into.

        • +2

you liar…..i am going to do the same

    • Do points lose value over time like inflation? I'd like yo save for a flight but not sure when to spend

      • Qantas points don't expire unless you stop accumulating points i think its around 12months might be wrong.. as long as you earn points or use the credit card (or a everyday rewards card) that is linked to the Qantas membership.

        • -1

You have to have flown at least one eligible flight segment on Qantas in the preceding 18 months for points to stay alive. If you haven't flown in the last 18 months, all points earned before then go out the door.

        • From 1 July 2010, your Qantas points won't expire provided you earn or use points through your account at least once every 18 months, although Transitional Rules may apply. This includes earning or using points with our program partners.

Note: This does not include transferring points to or from a family member.

The 18 month time period starts from the date of your last eligible activity. If your last activity was an eligible flight, it is the date the flight was taken.

  • Do they actually send you both cards for American Express and VISA linked to the same credit account? How does it work?

    • yes 2 cards linked to same credit/account use either or when amex is not accepted.

  • Just got approved for a black card. I didnt get approved straight away yesterday, but it got approved this morning via email, no questions!
What am I going to do with a 15k limit…

  • I just signed up 2 weeks ago and only got 20,000 points. I feel ripped off.

  • If I got platinum Nd I get 2 lounge passes for husband and me. Can my kids come in ?

    • Yes if they're under 18

    • You dont get 2 lounge passes with platinum. Only Black.

    • Sorry I meant black

  • +1

    Approved for Black Frequent Flyer!
15k limit. Was told my application was referred yesterday and now without any further communication I received the good news in my e-mail tonight. Citibank were a pain with wanting financial info but ANZ have taken my word for it!

  • +3

Get this and a bankwest transaction account for a free 60000 points :)

  • guys…i have a question….i hear a friend say that if I get declined, then for the next 3 months or 6 months ALL BANKS will decline my applications for credit cards?! Is this for real?

    • +4

Well I applied for this and was flat out rejected. Then I decided to apply again hours later and then succeeded and its the same bank lol. So…no.

  • no

  • Thanks, approved. Now finally I can get in on some amex related deals lol. Not a anz customer either. No checks, I think its easier as I have been checked/approved by another bank on my credit file

  • +1

Can I buy Visa prepaid gift cards using this - would that be an eligible purchase?? - apologies for the stupid question.. :)

    • +1

Yes. Or get your RACV/Q membership and buy Wish Gift Cards at 5% off.
      Essentially, free money.

  • -1

Can my wife and I apply one each and transfer points to single QFF card?

    • +1

Difference QFF member is better I guess. QFF has a thing called family transfer that u can transfer your points over to her

I was referred Tuesday night and never got a call. Anyone else in this boat?

    • Me too. I am hoping they have been Ozbargained and haven't got to ours yet.

      • +2

"Referred" Tues and I admit I was disappointed; no calls yet approval email came in this evening. Patience.

    • Wednesday night for me… heard nothing yet

      • I got referred on Tuesday as well. Just got the approval tonight so there's hope yet :D

  • +1

I know nothing much about credit cards and need a bit of advice… I got approved for one with a $1000 limit (in 60 seconds btw, thanks OP) and I want to pay a $1200 council rates bill with it (they do take credit-card via Bpay, so it should count towards the 1.5K). Can I just deposit a bit over $200 onto the card first, then pay the bill do you reckon? Or will I need to split the bill into two payments? My CBA credit card allows me to go as far into the black as I want with it… I assume they all do?

Also, would the council rates bill qualify for the interest-free period, or would I be wise to get the card's balance back to '$0 owing' the next day (or even the same day?), to avoid incurring any interest?

    • Don't know if there's ever limits (certainly not at that level) on how much a single transaction can be. Should be no issues.

  • I finally got a call. They need some doco.
    What's the email address?
I wrote down [email protected] but it bounced

  • +1

    FYI,

I had to send more documents in and never got an email or call. I called them today and asked what's the go and they said that I had been approved, and that you don't get an email or call when you are approved. You just get the card/documents in the mail. They can't say the credit limit on the phone.

So if you don't have an answer like I did, call them up and they will let you know.

So I now know I have been approved but I have no idea what my credit limit is lol.

    • [redacted - missed your need for docs]

    • That's pretty poor lol

    • I called them too and found out it was approved. They might also be busy.

    • Strange…..I received e-mail confirming my approval and what credit limit I was receiving.

    • Received a call a day after sending in my employments documents, the girl on the phone verified most things. I didn't receive any follow up email so I called today. After being transferred 3 times I was put through to the 'credit approval team'. The stressed girl on the phone said it had been approved and the cards will be sent soon.

Looks like ANZ underestimated the demand :p

  • Newbie with credit cards, why did I get two cards in the mail?

    • One Amex, one Visa. Amex earns more points so use it where its accepted. Use the Visa when only Visa/Mastercard is accepted.

  • Got rejected on Wednesday. Should I wait for the letter they mail out to me? or just try to reapply again online with same name and details but hide a bit of information about my credit limits and money have/owe?

    • I reapplied a few hours later with slightly different details and got accepted.

      • +1

damn…tried again and got referred again.
No luck for me…. i guess i am gonna miss out the 50,000 points…:_(

  • I applied and got referred…

I already have the Black FF (which was converted from a Rewards Black, which in turn was converted from an ANZ First with a limit of 23,500).

The CSR offered to keep the Black card as is, and instead of going into my credit file for another check, keep the same combined limits across both cards by lowering the Black by the limit of the newer card.

I told them to take $1000 off the limit for the Black, and open a new FF Basic card with a limit of $1000…now to pump all my spending for the next few months through the new ones…

They said a "new" credit card means any application that is lodged as a separate one. Any cards you already hold with ANZ can be closed and new ones opened (that will be a new credit assessment from scratch), or you can leave them be and open another one and get the Bonus.

As long as you dont close an existing CC through an inter-product transfer, you should be fine to get the bonus.

  • -4

what is the QFF points earning rate on this CC?

    • Standard: Visa 0.5pt/$, Amex 1pt/$
      Platinum: Visa 0.5pt/$, Amex 1.5pt/$
      Black: Visa 0.75pt/$, Amex 1.5pt/$

  • -5

Does it require opening an ANZ everyday account as well when we open this credit card account? Thanks

    • -2

      Vote down means no?

    • No, you don't have to open an everyday account.

  • -4

Does anyone know whether there is a charge for additional card in the first year ?

  • -1

Sounds good, anyone know… what are the cancellation fees if cancel the card within the first year? How much does 50,000 points equate to?

    • Don't know of any credit cards with cancellation fees.

  • -2

Congratulations! You have been approved for an ANZ Frequent Flyer
SO where do i select if i want a Visa or Amax?

    • You get both - one for higher points earn, other for using at places not happy to cop higher merchant fees.

      • cool thanks for that… oh and does the standard ANZ Frequent Flyer ( NON Platinum ) also get 55 days interest free.. cant see it anywhere on the website info. I plan on keeping the car so wanted the cheaper yearly fee for a less points.

        • +1

I doubt any card offering rewards points wouldn't be interest free.

Look, from what I can tell, ANZ will waive fees if you call to cancel, so if I were you I'd go with the best card you can qualify for (especially with the freebies the black gives). You'll earn more, you get freebies (lounge passes), and, even if they don't waive the fee, in a year's time, you just cancel the card, get a different card with a points promotion. Rinse, repeat etc.

One fall back that's always there is the Woolworths Mastercard. 16,000 bonus points for new holders more than covers the $89 fee (waived if you cancel each year). And there'll be others.

The earn rate of the basic cards at the big four is shite - don't use them as intended. ;)

        • @JohnHowardsEyebrows:

Sounds like good advice .. so i keep this card the 4 months until i get my 50,000 points put into the new QQ FF account that i get to sign up to for free.. cancel the card move to another with a promo and keep hoping around to get ++ points each time.. "a lil dodgy but fantastic haha

        • @JohnHowardsEyebrows:

Ok after a little more digging i found how long the interest free period is -

Up to 44 days vs Up to 55 days on the Platinum or Black .. so I'm happy with that. will still shop around for the cheapest CC fee on another card when it comes time to pay up the fee if a new promo hasn't made me change earlier on the ANZ

          @vid_ghost:

My advice is, if you get offered a fee waiver each year you call, accept it. It's a great card - just not worth $400 a year.

        • @JohnHowardsEyebrows:

My fee is $95 Total Annual Account Fee for the ANZ Frequent Flyer that i signed up for.
So would that be worth the price to keep.. I didn't really care about the other bonuses the more costly cards came with.

The CBA awards card charges $89 pa for 0.6% QFF points per $1 but no bonus 50,000 points
so this looks to be a much better value card at 1 QFF Point per $1

        • +1

@vid_ghost: Only if you use the Amex a lot - but if you use the Amex a lot, you may as well get an Amex Amex (e.g. the fee free Qantas card, same earn rate).

Depends on how much hassle you can stomach.
0.5 points for Visa/MC is a bit crap, but if you just want a reliable card (that you can often have the fee waived for), I guess it's not a terrible card.

The best deal is the Citibank Signature (think it's been extended again) - fee free for life, 1:1 points earning with Virgin or Singapore Air, and 2 free lounge visits (overseas) per year.

        • -1

          @JohnHowardsEyebrows:

Not planing to fly anywhere ever.. so I'm more interested in the free points for the sake of them. Maybe even buy some free electronics from the QFF store online with the points at some time. Looks like 330,000 can get you a 50" LED TV

Guess I'll just keep trying to get the points amused over time with these bonus and buy something nice

        • +1

@vid_ghost: Whatever suits. Just would advise against paying a big 4 bank for their inferior cards.

        • @JohnHowardsEyebrows:

Yeah will look at my other options as soon as i have my 50,000 points haha

        • -1

          @vid_ghost:

Get a coles master card which gives 2 point per dollar spent and you can use vouchers for coles and some other stores owned by the group or redeem your points on the flybuys site.

        • +2

          @nadan:

I dont think that card gives QFF.. only stupid coles flybuys thats pointless points that are pretty worthless

        • @vid_ghost:

You are correct it doesn't but you can get vouchers and buy directly from Flybuys, I guess I misunderstood your initial question because you said you weren't interested in using them for flying.

  • Thanks OP, just got the Black card.

Kinda worrying approved in 60 seconds……… Set it to lowest 15k.

  • received the Black card today, was going to call ANZ since I did not receive the email approval, the welcome pack says the annual fee is not payable in the first year, no mention of the 50000 points, but I think it is normal

    • Where in the welcome pack does it say that the annual fee is not payable in the first year? Having trouble finding it. Thanks.

      • there is a document named "Letter of offer", the statement can be found in the second page, under "credit fees and Charges"

        • Finally located it. Major relief as I hate having to deal with call centres. Thanx 'excite'.

  • Thanks, said that they needed to review it, but I got my email confirmation this morning.

    • They needed to review it even after you got your 60 second auto approval?

  • +1

    Approved, thanks OP!

Some intel i gathered from their credit approval department: if applying for platinum and given a credit limit of higher than 15000, it is possible to ring them up after activating your cards and requesting product transfer to black. That's the way to go me thinks, as it's much safer than getting the flick if applying for black and not meeting requirements. Hope that helps.

  • Had to provide evidence of my income, which I did Tuesday night. Never heard back from them. Just called them up, and apparently it was approved. Very nice of them to let me know. Most uninspiring customer service person I've ever talked to! (not rude as such, just had a "oh, when with the tediousness end!" tone! Anyway, if you're waiting for a response, it might pay to call them to see what the status is, because apparently they don't (always) email/call/text/Morse-code you to let you know.

  • approved, yesss

  • +1

Approved, received and activated… How to spend the required $1,500 without really spending it now? Any tricks? Best scenario would be to buy something, return it and get refunded by cheque.

Just recently paid for all vehicle registrations and insurances. Also for an expensive overseas flight…struggling to reasonably spend $1,500 now.

    • +1

Not sure you can get a refund via cheque. You could spend it on gift cards as mentioned elsewhere. If you have access to an Entertainment Book account, they're 5% off. I'd buy in multiples of say $250 though, as they have an expiry date from when they are first used.

Wonder if tax payable to ATO is considered an eligible purchase. I doubt it, but still good way of earning points.

      • It is with Macquarie - it'll be in the fine print somewhere if it's excluded.
