        • @lostn:

I've got an Asus wireless AC router and get transfer speeds of a solid 8MBps at a distance of 30 meters when connecting to a laptop with wireless N.
When you do wireless AC to wireless AC on the 5ghz frequency, I see 20MBps on file transfers at 30 meters distance.
Having said that, I've seen slow speeds with other peoples wifi setups, even at relatively small distances. It's usually because the 2.4Ghz frequency can get interfered with quite a bit, unlike the 5Ghz frequency.

  • current status of order - "Awaiting Fulfillment"

well thats why i bought one.

    Thanks OP

  • omg just got maintance soon as i put cc card detaisl in.. damit

    • +1

just go back to the main page and try it again. happened to me but I managed to complete the purchase.

  • Can I cast local avi movies on my networked HD from my Android phone /tablet with it?

    • AVIs I'm not sure of. They didn't seem to play nicely with Chromecast when I tried last night however as all my media is MKV I didn't bother to troubleshoot it too much. It may just need a different App, not sure. Probably best to Google it.

    • I use Plex and bubbleuPnP and it plays almost anything, it does struggle with older movies like DVD rips. Newer mkvs = no problem.

  • OK, I applied the code and it showed $39 as the total price, but when I continued to payment, it went back to $49?

  • bought one thanks

  • Is this as good as miracast? Can you use all the tv streaming apps available on the playstore or are they restricted to what supported by chromecast like apple tv?

  • Thanks OP! Got an email an hour ago that mine has shipped with Startrack tracking number.

  • Hi Guys,
I use NAS on my network and my Smart TV can play most of the movies through DLNA. The ones which TV cannot play are played by the blue ray player.
TV also supports youtube and other applications, though are a bit slow.

Still any reason to buy this product?

    • It's $39 :)

    • +1

almost 500 votes, big reason if you ask me

    • No, but you will buy it anyway

      • ;)

  • Thanks for that. Great deal.
It wouldn't let me do Click & Collect though which was a shame, - thought I might be able to pick it up from my local store this arvo and be able to use it this weekend.

  • It's an amazing device. Used it everyday at my boyfriend's house in America. I have been waiting for a better price. Thanks OP :)

  • +9

Thanks OP, bought one, now doing some research on why I need it!

    • +4

      pls do share your findings..

  • Is this any different than streaming videos from my computer (using Plex) to my network connected TV?

  • back to 49 ?????

    • +2

      use the code

  • +8

it took 500 votes to convince me to buy this

    • Took me 646

Edit: Oh it looks like its back up… thought we had "Ozbargained" DSE's servers…. lol

  • Not sure why i need this… but bought one :) Thanks OP

    • Yep, same here. Since i've got Blu-Ray players that stream catch up services, YouTube, etc.

But, meh… for $39, I do have one telly in the bedroom, so I guess it's a cheap way to turn it into a Smart TV.

Damn you OzBargain… making me buy things on impulse.

  • website down… ozbargained

  • website having issues. Halfway through checkout it lost the discount (be careful…), now it says website under maintenance…

  • got 405 not Allowed error - paypal successfull - but order not showing in a/c - here we go again…

    • got the same issue as you

      • sent email to onlinesales@dse with paypal Transaction ID, invoice ID which is showing in the paypal transaction details…. don't bother calling CS they weren't much help. let me know if yours is sorted…lol

        • Same error here. Sent them an mail with payment details so hopefully all good.

Update: just checked my DSE account online and order is there. :)

  • got 5

  • Great price! Thanks OP!

  • Awesome deal.. Ordered earlier in the morning and now received Startrack tracking code :)

  • thought of buying.. but with dlna and youtube pairing app.. most of the stuff i need to stream can be streamed..good price though…

  • went as far as the paypal screen. Wrote the wrong password and then promptly closed the screen. Phew… just got away with it

  • Website Maintenance? Hope my order went through..

  • Just got one, had to try a couple of times.

Now I can run Plex off 3 different devices (Apple TV3, Android box and Chromecast)

  • +1

    • +3

List of all the android & iOS chromecast apps available :) - http://www.reddit.com/r/chromecast/wiki/apps

      • -5

All those apps are useless… except for Netflix which isn't available here.

    • Read the comments and look at reviews. It can do more that just control youtube.

  • surely they have met their 500 limit now? Waiting for orders to be rejected … went and priced matched at JB.

  • N7 2012, doh!!!!

  • bought this, will figure how to work it next.i watch You tube off the internet function on the Blu ray player and basically just watch free to air shows.also have the free VPN service on my Ipad that i haven't used either.Everyone seems to know what they are talking about so not sure this is the place to ask what i can watch besides my basic set up

    • Do you have an android phone or tablet?

      • Thanks for replying Felixco :) i have an android phone-a samsung,a macbook pro, an Imac and an ipad they're not connected or anything.mostly use my imac, ipad and phone

        • Looks like you're gonna have a lot of fun connecting all those devices to it. Not sure if your samsung is compatible with this new mirror update thingy otherwise you can mirror what ever you do on the samsung. Games are laggy though as someone said above.

        • @felixco: thanks will read up on how to do that

  • Shipped. Thanks OP.

  • bought one off my pocket money, many thanks.

Trying to resist a third Chromecast:(
I have set up two Chromecasts using Plex, bubbleuPnP and bubble server. The bubble server add on transcodes any audio that is not compatible with the Chromecast but won't transcoded anything else. When I was using just Plex and the Chromecast it was too much load for my micro server to handle the transcoding. Works very well although bubbleupnp does disconnect sometimes when watching movie so you lose your remote control.

  • I have a projector and would like to stream videos using chromecast…only issue is audio. Does anyone have any (wireless) solutions so I can stream the audio to my front speakers? Thanks.

  • +1

damn this site ! I gotta stop buying these things lol

oh well its only $39 ..

    • Well I bought one and I barely had a clue what it is !

I just saw 500+ and thought I better get this !!
Only now I'm catching up on what it actually is haha

we have a samsung galaxy note, a google nexus 5, a samsung tab 2
and a PC and 2 laptops so it's gonna be fun setting everything up !!

  • Bought 1

  • +2

575+ votes, seriously? What's so good about chromecast?

    • +2

nothing, it's not about chromecast, it's about ozb

      • true, still not buying, but +1 for being so popular among ozb lol…

        • Thanks, this is the highest deal I have posted. I have been fairly underwhelmed by Dick lately but this deal is too good to resist :P

        • @ShamelessBargains: damn you but thank you

    • the price

    • +1

This is not that great a price. It's more the device.

  • Hey guys. Will this find Samsung Allshare?

  • Almost 600 votes and still available! There is something wrong. Most likely Will end like the heaphones deal
Will be good if DS has stock for all our orders

    • 600 votes, only 50 sales from OzB.

  • Go to JB, don't wait

  • Hehehe bought 1 as well…. I have no idea how I am going to use it but well. If i dont like it i will sell it.

  • Was interested, until I read it only supports AAC, no AC3 or DTS passthrough for your amp.
Useless to me. If I wanted lock-in to a single format, I would have got an Apple-TV.

    • But, but, but, legitimate video is all a single format ;)

      • I don't think Chromecast will play my DVDs /BDs either. Aren't rips of your own discs "legit" in Australia now? Or free-to-air TV recordings with MP2 audio?

Do you need an amp with AAC to get surround sound from this?

  • Dont think i still have chance to get one this late. But please share hows the quality is like when streaming a movie off a laptop or mac, cheers

  • Hope it isn't ozbargained to the point where I get yet another email from Dick Smith that my order is being substituted with Philips CitiScape Shibuya Headphones. I'm already expecting two white ones and a blue one of those.

  • +3

Got confirmation email from Mr Dick, that mine already shipped..

    Thank Dick

    • +1

How did it feel, receiving a dick in your box?

  • Me too. Must admit I had almost no faith but they've come through!! Well we'll see

  • Can someone with a windows phone and a windows pc benefit from this??

  • looks like dick is becoming a better dick

  • +1

Purchased today and shipped today, thanks OP. This should complement my Apple TV, PS4, Macmini and WD Live that are all hooked to a smart TV. (I know I just wasted $39)

    • +1

You'll see that you haven't wasted anything when you get it

  • Tempted but its a bit shit of google to hardcode the DNS

  • Thanks OP. Decided if I was buying one I may as well buy 3 - 1 for each tv. Did as 3 separate purchases and allowed me to use the discount code 3 times. First time through my account. Second and third time without logging in but then linking to the account afterwards. Also got the website maintenance issue a couple of times.

Haven't trawled the thread to see if this issue has been raised, but I didn't realise it needs to be powered by usb - unless, apparently you have HDMI 1.4. http://www.androidcentral.com/did-google-gloss-over-chromeca….

  • Anyone know if you can root this and put xbmc on it? I've seen mention of it but no confirmation

  • I have not really looked into what this item cant and can do since coming out but I have two apple tv's set up in different rooms what can this item do the apple tv cant?
I will also come time be looking to put a tv in bedroom where there will be no normal tv channels unless your able to get signal without a main ariel socket.just I am wondering what I could get out of this having apple tvs already.

wish this didnt need a router. would be awesome to leave in a backpack when you stay at hotels etc

  • +1

Is this a mad rush for $10 off a $49 regular price or am I missing something here?

    • +1

You wouldn't miss anything if you do not know what you are missing. Important thing is what you really need. :)

  • just as I was about to enter my payment details…
