Acer Aspire V5-573PG-54208G75AII $749 (after $99 Cashback) at MSY Technology

40

I bought this laptop from MSY about a week ago and I love it so I thought I'd share. Good price after cashback considering it includes a 2GB nVida graphics card, 8GB RAM, i5 processor and is touch. Only downside I have come across is the resolution isn't as high as I would like it to be.

Over 2 years ago for $899 i purchased a Samsung 15" laptop with a i7 Quad core 7-3610QM and GT 650M that's twice as fast as the GT 720M .. hmmm whats happening with laptops these days! Specs going down and price going up https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/87830

Got my mum an Acer i5 with a GT 640m for $599 NO cash back needed from MSY 2 years ago. that would smoke this laptop that costs more today!

    GT 720M - Performance
Depending on the clock rates, the 3D performance of the GeForce GT 720M is somewhat above the old GT 620M, but clearly below the GT 630M in most cases. This is due to the 64 bit memory interface, which limits the performance noticeably. In comparison to the competition, the 720M offers a performance similar to the INTEL HD Graphics 4400/4600 or Radeon HD 8570M.

Gt 720m ? Its not the "2gb" that matter. Even if you put 10 gb still no difference at all. Weak gpu

  • Laptops with screens like this shouldn't be produced anymore. It must be 10,000% profit now. I imagine them saving money involving these screens instead of disposing of them.

Perhaps the devil is paying them for every one installed.

    • I think the problem is the rarity of the 'right' screens.
Ive been laptop browsing for about 3 months trying to decide, and all the forums and reviews seem to agree (disagree?) on one thing. "1080p is the minimum" or "1080p is too small on a 15inch".

The most sought after resolution on a laptop below 17" is a HD+ screen (900p), but not everyone makes one anymore. Lenovo are the only ones currently off the top of my head.

      • MacBook Air with an insane battery life to boot. ;)

900p on a 13.3" MBA is enough for me… not sure how some people are comfortable with 1080p. It's not a dig, just a personal observation since I haven't had the opportunity to use a 1080p 13.3" laptop over an extended period of time (i.e. the Vaio Pro).

  • Dismal battery life. You barely get over 2.5 hrs
