I've spent hours over the last few days looking at getting a nice new keyboard and just about exploded when I found this. I had pretty much settled on the current K70 model when I heard this was coming out then found Amazon had it for pre-order with $8 shipping which totally sealed the deal.

Considering the current model has less features (not just lack of colour) and costs at least $180 shipped (pickup isn't an option for me :( ), this is an excellent deal while it lasts. I imagine the shipping cost will change after release since the current K70 has $50 shipping from Amazon.

Amazon price is US$177.97 and is charged on the shipping date which will vary from the $190 currently on XE.com.

Oh Jesus. I have the old(?) version of this in Cherry Blue. It rocks.

A quick glance at the Corsair website only lists Cherry Reds… man i would totally throw my money at an MX Blue version.

bloody mohammed whats Jesus got to do with it?

    • I'm going to consider ordering the brown switch version when it comes out to compare and sell whichever I don't prefer. Resale might be good with Corsair's 2 year warranty.

Don't bother. Corsair's keyboards have been plagued with backlight problems. LED's die out of nowhere within months, my k70 (blue led version) has over 13 leds out (even on buttons I've never used) even my friend's k95 has dead leds.

The build and design I must say is nice, but if you're in for the LEDs, look elsewhere.

    • +1

For real. I've had mine for about 8 months and have 5 dead LEDs…. i really hope they've fixed this in the new version.

      • +2

        Apparently they have;
The issue with the older ones was the LED's are 'exposed' and died because of electro-static discharge being mounted to the switch. They now mount the LED's to the PCB for increased reliability

          Beat my while typing!

        • In other words the older keyboards having a faulty design?.

      • This guy says the dodgy LEDs have been fixed by putting them in the switches instead of on the PCB.

    • Have any of you attempted a warranty claim for the dead LEDs?

      • Got mine from amazon, would cost too much to ship it back to U.S/Hong Kong.

        • Corsair's warranty policy let's you deal with them directly after 30 days and they have RMA processing facilities in multiple countries :)

          Could be worth a look.

@Murdrum: I got my kb on release, couldn't care less really. As long as all keys are functioning.

Hong Kong is the closest repair centre for keyboards and psu's and it's sent at your cost. Something to keep in mind when buying corsair stuff outside Au.

        • @krisspy:
Ah I was wondering about that earlier. Fingers crossed, these really are made better.

  • Why is this keyboard so expensive? Because of the nice colours? Does it really make a difference if you have this one or one for $30?

    • +1

Most of the expense comes from the individual mechanical switches under every key and the build quality. Mechanical keyboards start at $80 for something well made without bells and whistles. They're the type of keyboard that should last for many years, although as mentioned above, some of the added features like LEDs might not last as long.

This has an aluminium chassis, special replacement key caps for gaming, a bunch of multimedia controls, macro binding on any key, N-Key Rollover to register any combination of keys pressed at once, high speed polling and detailed software for customization. The lighting is quite over the top and a new feature in keyboards so that probably contributes too.

Oh yeah, they're also suppose to feel really nice to type on. The way the red switches in this one work though is suppose to be better for gaming. They take less pressure to activate and can be pressed much quicker I think.

      • i have the k95

        assumin comparing red switches model
        and other than RGB led

what is the difference? Its more expensive than mine wtf?

        • Above the K95 this has every key macroable, LEDs that supposedly don't die and maybe something else that the new software adds.

Sure the scriptable lighting controller is a bit gimmicky and impractical, but being able to light up sections of the keyboard different colours does add value for me.

Just had the coolest idea. I hope it's possible to script a sound visualizer.

I think I would consider this at a lower price point personally. The extra $50 premium just for multicolour LEDs and an macroable entire board doesn't justify the extra.

  • +1

I wouldn't say this is a deal. Really just a heads up on a future product release.

Shame release date has been pushed back. Going to have to wait a while for the blue switches.

    • I debated with myself whether to post as a deal.

The only thing that's a bargain here is the shipping :) We can only speculate on the cost when availability increases or it becomes available in Australia. It does seem likely to me that the price will go up though before it goes down.

  • A bit off topic, But does anyone remember that keyboard where every key had a little LCD screen (not LED light, LCD screen) so you could change what the keys actually said? I wonder whatever happened to that..

    • optimus maximus

  • +2

Keep in mind that you can get a non rainbow one from mechkb.com for $159 So your paying $40 for multi-colour LED (of better quality from reports) and also from the US.

I bought one but thats because I am vein.

  • It's good but its no Ducky Shine 3

    • The shine 3 was my next choice after the K70. Looks great and built well but the aggressive metal design, rubber key caps and volume wheel made it the K70 for me.

  • waiting for brown version.

  • I would get a DAS or CM or Majestouch. All cheaper and all really great high quality mech keyboards with proven reviews?
