Lagavulin 16 Year Old Scotch Whisky 700ml - $75.00 DELIVERED (w/ Free Metro Delivery) at Dan's

900

Great price again for this single malt. No code needed for free standard metro delivery, as it seems to be some sort of a click frenzy deal, so it is ONLINE ONLY.

ONE DAY ONLY! (expires Aug. 27 at 7:00pm)

Don't forget cash back rewards, and potentially the AMEX deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/156543)…

Cheaper than the prior deal at $79.85 (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/156603), and usually retails around $100.

Enjoy, and as always, please drink responsibly!

twice the fun for me - two bottles :D

for those who don't know, you won't see the free delivery until well into the the order process (but before the payment is made)

  • Thanks OP, grabbed one.

  • +1

This + $20 credit from AMEX = $55. Awesome price!

  • Says free delivery to metro then charges me $7

    • +1

When you get to the end it removes delivery charge

  • One day only. Does that mean it expires tonight or tomorrow night? Sorry, I'm just a bit confused =="

    • +3

      Expires tomorrow at 7pm.

Just checked a couple of online liquor stores in the US, apparently these sell for $100 USD per bottle over there, so for once it seems we are getting a better deal than the Yanks!

  • Try and see if this can be added to delivery

  • Just realise chivas-regal-18-year-old-scotch-whisky-700ml is $74.90 too, in terms of value, quality & taste , which one more worth it? It's a gift for dad, normally he likes Chivas 18, not sure he's gonna like this or not? Anyone can help?

    • +2

To be honest if he normally likes Chivas 18 and he's never had a peat monster in his life there's at least a good chance that he WON'T like it immediately, but don't let that stop you, buy it for him anyway and MAKE him like it, its really light years ahead of Chivas 18 once you get used to the taste:D

      • Quick question: How would you compare it to Ardbeg Uigeadail?

    • +1

Chivas is a blended whisky, so it is kind of a different beast and a bit hard to compare. Not sure if you know if he's had single malt before, but since I first tasted it, I've never looked back to blended. Unfortunately, I'm not sure whether the Lagavulin is the best scotch for him to start out with in the single mat's. Its a great scotch, but a classic Islay whisky where it is smoky and peaty. Some people love it, some hate it. In terms of value, the Lagavulin is definitely better, $75 for 18 year Chivas isn't anything that special. And both are great quality.

    • The Lagavulin is well a head in terms of value and quality since it normally sells for closer to $90+ and is a single malt.

Taste is subjective but Lagavulin 16yo is one of my personal favourites, it's much more delicate than the other Islay malts and probably the best one to try before branching out in to the rougher waters of Ardbeg or Laphroaig.

    • As everyone has said, peated malts are an acquired taste for most people. So unless you know your dad likes them I probably wouldn't risk it. If you're determined, you could try to get him out to a whisky bar in your area to try a dram and find out if he likes it.

i scanned this thread, just to find some Ron Swanson comments.Success!

  • Aaargh, I got the one in the earlier deal for $59 (after amex discount) :((

  • +1

Best price delivered I have ever seen… well done OP!

I got one last week for 59… I feel compelled to get another and say 2 bottles for 67 each!

  • Too good to resist. Thanks OP!

  • +1

One of the best whiskys available and an excellent price. THIS is a true bargain. Johnny Walker Red is cheaper but cheap doesn't make a bargain.

    • +4

If you could bottle despair, it would taste like Johnny Walker Red…

  • Almost bought one on Sunday from Liquorland for $80. Glad I help off. Thanks OP!

  • +2

I've just added one of these to my scotch repertoire!

  • +1

If you don't have AMEX, you can probably accompany this with the 5% off gift cards from Woolworths (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/158495) which brings it down to $71.25.

    • Can you use CashRewards with the gift cards?

      • +1

I'm able to get Starthere credits when paying with Wish gift cards, so I assume the same will apply to Cash Rewards?

Perhaps you're trying to be funny. If serious, people who drink this value it's taste and generally respect it as a well crafted produced. I for one don't binge on it. A little goes a long way.

    • +6

Yes, but they DE-Liver for free!

  • why does it charge me $7 standard delivery fee?

    • Did you go right to the end? See comments above re: shipping cost removed right before payment.

      • thanks , got it, paid AMEX.

  • Are prices same in store?

    • usually

      • FWIW, this deal says specifically ONLINE ONLY, but you can call your local to find out.

  • Thanks OP. Just ordered this and a 1L Grey Goose vodka for $64.95 (cheap price for the 1 litre). Standard metro delivery was still free!

  • Never tried this but interested to give it a shot. How would you compare it to Glenfiddich 15 or 18YO?

    • +2

Completely different. Peated Islay malts are an acquired taste for most people. People not used to it sometimes describe the taste of peated whisky as "medicinal", "like disinfectant", "like ashfelt/tar". If you've never tried a peated Scotch, I wouldn't recommend risking the purchase. Try a dram of it at a bar first.

      • +2

I had my first experience with a peated Islay in a cocktail (from memory it was scotch, lime, ginger ale, something else??), loved it so much I shared it with the rest of the group - the response was pretty much 50/50, with the haters responding as you suggested..

    • +1

Imagine drinking merlot for years and then trying a peppery shiraz - the result will definitely be of tje 'love it or hate it' variety.

      • +1

        Multiply that effect by 10.

  • How does this compare to glenlivet 12 year? I had that and loved it

    • See my reply to TNDO above.

  • https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_751143/glengoyne-10… … free rocks available with this one. The Scotch is good, not Talisker great though.

  • If this one is smokey and peaty, can I assume it is similar to Johnnie Walker Double Black?

    • If you had to compare it to a Johnnie Walker, it would be like a stronger version of Johnnie Walker Green Label.

      • still exist? i thought no longer have green only blue, plat, gold…… double black, black and red?

  • Any one else having trouble with the offer? Everytime i click on it, it comes up as the $92.90 price, with no free delivery.

    • +1

Yeah I did too but I called them up on 1300 72 33 88 and while the representative wasn't too sure why it returned to it's original price, he was able to take my order over the phone for $75. So your best bet is to call them.

      • on the phone now.. they're sorting it out.

  • Edit

  • got mine today

can't argue with 1.5L of liquid joy deliveredi in under 48 hours

  • Just a silly question, anyone in Perth know which restaurant has this? Would like to try this since it's so popular in ozbargain :)
