Nice first post OP. And thanks for not asking others to be kind. Well done!

  • thx op… been thinking about getting one.. this is a barrgggaainnn!

  • Thanks op. Bought one.

  • +2

Oh man! Just bought a $30 one in the ebay sales! Doh!
    I don't need both … but… its a bargain.

    • +3

You have effectively lowered your cost per unit to $19.50 per unit. To get to the point of buying at cheaper than ordinary $15, you need to buy another 3 from this deal. Will then make $57 for 4. It will be $14.25 per unit. You have saved 75 cents for buying another 2 when you read this =)

Damn you OZB!! Now I have a scale for each foot and a few for XMAS. The family are gonna love me!

  • +3

Were $15-18 @HN when I picked up a $6 Lavazza coffee machine over a week ago.

But I find these type of scales don't last long. A $12 DealDirect one stopped after 6 months of infrequent use (refunded), a $10 Aldi lasted beyond just its warranty. Display starts flashing sequence, or segments fail to display - poorly made.

Have been waiting for a name brand like Salter with 15 year warranty but it's $30 @HN.

    Will buy 1 more time…

    • +1

mine from dealdirect still works very well after more than one year. i think the "trick" is not to leave it in your bathroom. moisture ruins everything.

      • +1

I wasn't even in the country - it failed stored in its box in the cupboard. But water is it's greatest enemy.

There were many different models. DealsDirect weren't surprised it failed.

I dismantled last 2 - some parts were taped in position, conductive element between circuit board & LCD was loose - hence display elements faulty, poor soldering, shoddy wiring. With all that potential to fail in these cheap units, just a bump may knock them out.

Gone back to ancient analog scale - not as easy to read (only used about 6 times a year so no issue), does not appear as accurate as only shows kg not grams (that's only the perception of precision), but reliable.

Of course it's free to check your weight on scales at chemist or doctors. Don't really see need for personal one.

      • My dealsdirect one works okay too (the bamboo one). Only prob is that it depends on the floor being perfectly level in order to work.

Have been waiting for a name brand like Salter with 15 year warranty but it's $30 @HN.

as per your link to my deal it's $19.95 @ Harris Scarfe - price match at HN :)

      • Tonester - thanks so much :-)
And 5c cheaper than that deal I missed. A much better scale than this deal. Pity the new Brisbane suburban store a short walk from me is yet to open - the only 1 is on the other side of Brissie. I'll give HS a call to see if it's same price in store to avoid $10 delivery.

  • How much are they normally?

Feels good to see my first post on top of Ozbargain home page :)

  • Anyone know what size batteries it takes?

  • +3

"It has the capabilities to measure body weight and more."

    so…what's more can this do?

    • +16

take a sneaky peek at you from below

      • Take up space in your cupboard
      • Use it as a paper weight
      • Keep it by your bed to beat up intruders with
      • paint it! Hug it and pet it and call it George.
  • +1

    $9, woah, this is heavy…

  • +1

Measures and withstands up to 180kg total weight

That's good to know. I wouldn't want it to tell me I weighed 170 kg and then immediately break.

    • +2

If you hover around or over 120kg it can be quite frustrating because that's where a lot of scales top out. Don't know what it's like now but it use to be rare to find one that works over 150kg. Even the Wii balance board isn't rated over that.

Source: I'm too sexy for my scales ;-)

  • Thanks snapped one up.

  • Already received an email confirming my item is ready for pick up now!

  • Thanks - once again ozbargain has taken my money for things that I don't need!

  • no longer giving option to pick up? Anyone else?

    • Wasn't working for me. Then I tried again and it did. Order accepted for 3 scales pickup at Castle Hill.

  • Cheers ordered one, now I can see how truely fat I am.

    • All good just picked them up. Plenty left on the shelves in Castle Hill but price is $19

  • Placed pickup order from QV but got an email saying that it's gone to back-ordered.

  • Weighing up if I should buy these or the other ones on ebay

Friendly OzB Tip - DO NOT BUY THIS AS A PRESENT FOR YOUR WIFE OR GIRLFRIEND!!!
    (unless you're wanting a divorce/breakup)

    • I agree with you
      But not for all…

    • She is a model so this should not work for me.

      • +1

she might think that you think she's gaining weight and become insecure

    • Good tip for someone wanting a divorce.

    • +1

I SMS'd my wife and asked if she wanted one. She said yep. She's quite level headed most of the time. Some of us have sensible wives. That said I would not purchase this as a present.

  • Thanks OP.

Btw,not available for pickup at nsw Sydney when I tried

  • $11 @ Joyce mayne if they run out of stock

  • +1

my order has been canceled already. the guy who called told me that they got 20ish orders in the last few hours and it's out of stock atm.

  • Still few available at HN domayne auburn

  • Thanks. Bought it in a heartbeat

  • Cant add it to the basket.
    It wont load properly

  • Thanks. Picked up one yesterday. Great buy!

  • Cant see how it measures BMI?

    Anyone know?

    • it cant..

    • You can calculate bmi manually if you know your height. Just google bmi calculator.

  • just bought one at Rothwell normal price was $19.95. not sure if it does anything but tell you what you weigh, body mass etc looks unlikely :(

  • +1

Looks like deal is still available but you have to manually go to the "hot deals" page on the HN site, current link doesn't let you add to your cart.

    • Can confirm that. Allows me to order pickup in Brisbane.

    • I did this, still cant add to cart :(
Oh well, ill make a trip down there tomorrow.

      • Still works for me in Brisbane - click deal link (no Add To Cart), go to Hot Deals link, click add to cart from there, go to cart, select store.

        • Tried every which way, didnt work. Went down there and scored myself 3, and there was a few left at coburg store (vic).

Can't understand why OzBargainers are so excited for this deal? Around $10 is a pretty regular sale price for this type of cheap basic scale. Could it be this time of year when people uncover more?

None of these deals got the response this did.
    $2 limited availability (41+)
    $5 limited availability (14+)
    $10 Aldi (12+)
$10 Deals Direct (free shipping) (60+)

Have picked up more featured body fat analysis scales from Aldi for $10.

For those still wanting bathroom scales Harris Scarfe may still have stock of $5 digital bathroom scales or $10 bamboo ones in store, sold out online. Or the better $19.95 Salter ones posted by tonester above with 15 year warranty - try in store to avoid delivery, as in this deal.

Whirlpool advice is to look out for good HS sales on bathroom scales.

    • +1

Thanks Bruce - just got the $5 HS one put on hold to buy later. Last one in store!

    • Not everyone is on ozbargain all the time or catches every deal. Ive been after a cheaper digital scale for a while and have always missed out, till now.

      • +1

Still doesn't explain why this basic scale got 172 + against other similar or better scales at about same price with almost no votes??

I gave the example that this scale is 80% dearer than the similar HS unit. These cheap prices are quite common, so I would not have even thought about posting the $5 scales.

As I posted at the start of the deal, these type of scales are poorly manufactured, having taken a couple apart after failing. When I saw piles of these in HN before this deal, I thought who would be foolish enough to buy them ;-)

  • I think my order is cancelled too. But email only saying delay …

  • Not even worth of $9. Lucky those who missed out.
Scale don't show consistent result. Anyone with same observation?
