Decent as a coupler plan to the competitive providers.
    Recommended config : $30 = 2.50 pm for one year' s
worth of Long Life; review brucefromaustralia's guide

This deal follows $15 Optus Kmart ended 18/9 Thu,
    for which I exchanged 71.25 for 2.5 months ∞/.5gbd.

    • Nice one daver :)

Yes, suggestions for use of these Starter Packs in A guide to using Telstra Prepaid Starter Packs Wiki.

Advice on how to get most out of included credit for phone or data, transferring credit to another account, or using on Google Play, etc.

Feel free to add advice there.
(It's still under construction, as I am in dispute with Telstra.)

  • +5

    $10! Come on!

  • 3GB? or 2GB?

    • 3GB if iPad Starter Pack, 2GB if activate another Starter Pack with iPad as device. (Reason data recharge rate for $30 now only buys 2GB.)
      iPad Starter Pack is $30!

See changes to data plans in Wiki

      • Apple Tax = $15 ;)

        • Just not currently on sale.
Strangely, data services on the iPad are far cheaper than other broadband devices on Telstra (0.98c/MB when pack cost is $30, but far cheaper when on special - 0.33c/MB for those who still have $10 3MB packs).

      • Does anyone know whether I can activate the ipad starter pack as a normal $30 starter pack for a phone?

        • Reports that you can via chat. But as the iPad Starter Pack currently costs twice the price of an ordinary Starter Pack with $30 credit, why would you?

    Nice deal.

Thanks OP, Just purchased one so I can make some Google Play purchases.

    • +1

FYI: Don't even try to ask for a refund on your google play purchase. The refund does not get credited back to your prepaid account.

    • +2

I hope you are going to use the phone calls as well. For example, by activating as Freedom Plan, you have cap of "$220" calls, plus free calls & SMS, 800MB data, and still have $30 to spend at Google Play :-)

      • Yes I will use it as well to call overseas but I am on a 12month Kogan Telechoice plan at the moment so can't port my number.

    • Do you still have to call customer service to use these for cheap google play credit? If its automated & online, I'm off to buy a few sims. Otherwise, it's not worth it.

      • @ justtoreply

The sim needs to be connected to the device (play store detects the Telstra Sim.)

You can even activate online without human intervention ;) as long as you are happy to take the mobile number telstra give you.

        • Great, it was a pain calling customer service before. But google play @ 50% off without calling anyone it's a no brainer. The phone number will be discarded when the credit is spent.

  • Is anyone else having issues with using their Telstra sim to make purchases on the google play store?

    • Yes, I don't have to option to pay via telstra on the play store. For some reason it doesn't show up any more even with resetting the play store on my phone.

      • @ Aang and Hapalo

I had this issue recently (sim must be on data not wifi in your device-just go to the play store and then Apps/find the app you want to buy/ then press the box with the dollar amount on the app/ accept/ then a box pops up with a down arrow next to the dollar amount/ then it gives payment options/ then choose bill my telstra account.

  • Hi, can I buy one of this pack and use for FREEDOM for temp use, I'm confused whether it can be used for recharge or not. When I read description on Telstra website looks like you can select plan only when you do the recharge.

    Thanks

    • Yes, you can activate as Freedom or other plans.

Plan is selected at SIM activation, and uses included $30 credit. Recharge usually occurs at end of access period of plan, or expiry of credit.

Can't be used as Recharge, but after activation, you can transfer credit to another Telstra SIM to top up via CreditMe2u. That may extend the access period for up to 14 days. See the Wiki.

      • Thanks a lot, mate.

      • Cannot see Creditme2U option anymore! :S Is it just me?

        • Where were you looking?
If dialling #100# on a mobile, the option is there.

        • @brucefromaustralia:
Just a few days ago creditme2u option still available, but since yest it's gone. I tried both my phones (android & iphone) and both my Telstra sims, same issue. I asked Telstra chat 24/7, they advised me to text TRANSFER to 1258888 instead and thankfully it worked :)

        • @floxyz:
Worked for my phone 20 hours ago when I posted comment above. Still works now.

But thanks for the tip to SMS TRANSFER to 1258888.

        • @brucefromaustralia: No problem. Yeah looks like it's just my account. Tried my hubby's phone & sim card, creditme2u's there

  • Any idea how long these last if they're not activated?

    • Expiry date on pack. Usually about 1 year. Could swap for new pack at Telstra Shop in the future, if approaching expiry.

  • Is Telstra prepaid come with 4G data speed? Can the $30 credit use for Google Play App purchase?

  • I have a couple of $30 micro sim kits from a previous deal. One expires Nov 2014 and the other Jan 2015. I haven't used as much Google Play credit as I anticipated, so happy to move them along for $10 including postage if anyone wants one.

    • Yes,I can buy both from you.Where's the item located?

    • I'll put my hand up too, if they're available. Glad to buy whatever's available.

  • can the credits on Longlife be used on play store?

    • Yes.

      • so $30 is available for 6 months to be spent on play store?

        • +1

Yes. It's still just real credit to do with as you please - make calls, transfer to another Telstra SIM, or buy on Google Play. I'm on Longlife.

  • +1

Thanks OP, Just bought one for my friend.

  • +1

I guess $10 is gone for good :(

  • +2

Deal expires on the 17th October 2014 only one per customer when ordering.

    • As usual, Telstra wants you to just buy 1, then buy lots of more profitable recharges.

    • what's the best about buying more than one? more specifically online? is just best to buy five-ten individually on the online store? Or is it likely Telstra will cancel some of those orders.

  • +1

Telstra: Couldn't be more confusing if they tried.

  • Grabbed a few, cheers.

  • Hi, I just saw the sim-card for tablet are also on special $15 www.telstra.com.au/tablets/prepaid-for-tablets/

Can I buy this card but used on a phone as I only need data no phone call or msg needs at all.

    Thanks

    • +1

$15 for 2GB for Tablets, but used in phone for data - yes of course. It's the same SIM, just activated as device = tablet instead of phone plan.

I am using that now to post this on my $79 4G phone. I discard the SIM at end of access & activate a new one, or transfer credit from another Telstra SIM via CreditMe2u. See the Wiki.

Can also receive calls & SMS on the SIM's phone number. Surprised me when I received a wrong number call.

But as for better value 3GB iPad SIM not in iPad… Telstra are likely to detect it is not in use in iPad, as required in t&c. Feel free to try.
I think they caught me using it in 4G modem instead of iPad. They then charged pay as you go rate of 5c/MB instead of 0.98c! No explanation given, just 200MB cost $10 credit instead of $2. Still in dispute.

      • interesting that the ipad starter kits are still $30

        btw

        Pre-Paid for Tablets
Get a Telstra Pre-Paid SIM card with an included 3GB of data to use in Australia for 30 days to get you started.

wonder if one can take advantage of this error? :)

        • iPad Starter Packs used to be the one on special last year when I wanted the standard packs!

Doesn't surprise me that Telstra make mistakes like that. As it is followed by To get you started we’ve included 2GB of data I don't think there would be any extra data :-(

Recharge rates for data changed on 1/7/14 from 3 to 2GB for $30. Their advertising hasn't caught up.

I have asked Telstra support about Telstra's CreditMe2u (used to top up credit on old iPad Plan) - no one understood it. Staff eventually asked me for assistance to locate Telstra's own "Our Customer Terms" I was quoting from. If they don't even know how to locate the customer terms, well…

      • Bruce, do you run into any complications with this. More specifically Telstra ask you if you own more then five sims when buying online? Not sure if they ask you about it when activating though

        • Never been an issue. It's the number of active SIMs that they are interested in, but even that seems no issue.

    • I've added your question as a new FAQ Section to the Wiki.

  • +1

Expiry date is 28th July 2016.

  • Can we can recharge by buying the telstra credit on eBay?

  • Store rep, my sister purachased a few but as she's overseas till mid November won't be able to collect it herself. The post office is refusing to let me collect it on her behalf as I don't have the driver's licence/am not her. Is there a way to give authority for someone else to pick it up for her, or change the person it is posted to?

    • No. The delivery is meant to be specifically for her. Even with a letter of authority you will not be able to collect it as the name, address and last 4 digits of the licence must match the Consignment Note.

You can try and call them but I highly doubt they'll change the delivery details.

Not trying to be rude, but your sister should have known better. During the order in the section where it asks for identification details it clearly said "For security reasons, you'll need to take delivery of this order yourself, and show the same ID you used to order online."

If you do somehow manage to collect it, post the process here.

      Good luck.

Why my internet speed so slow with 4G connected? I am using Nexus 5.Anything I am Aware?

    • Lots of factors to consider. It would be best to contact Telstra support.

Thanks O.P. Price matched at Officeworks. $14.25

    • I tried to.. they had no stock in Joondalup, WA. Saleswoman suggested they are being phased out and that there are no stock state wide?? Not sure if I believe her really..

    • I tried this at North Ryde Officeworks. They wouldn't do it. They said they don't price beat on Telcos.
As usual, I have been unsuccessful in getting Officeworks to pricebeat an item. This is now the 4th item I have been unsuccessful at.

  • My local Post Office Rockdale sell for $15 as clearance too!!

  • 5 Days left on this deal (just a reminder) :)
