OneDrive Free 15 GB When Download OneDrive for iOS, Android and Windows Phones

3290

Continue from previous post of 3GB Camera Roll bonus:
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/134249

Microsoft has now increased the bonus from 3GB to 15GB!

I guess this increase is partly due to the recent release of iPhone 6

You can get your 15 GB by downloading the App, sign up for OneDrive and activate the auto upload feature for your camera roll sometime between now and the end of September.

For those who have previously done this, you should see your capacity is now 15 GB camera roll bonus. I now have:
- 15 GB free
- 10 GB loyalty (due to I signed up long time ago, i.e. 25 GB free)
- 15 GB camera roll bunus

A Total 40 GB.

Check your storage via https://onedrive.live.com/options/ManageStorage
Enjoy!

Also up to 40gb now! Holidaying in Europe and still finding myself checking ozbargain…

        • Dedication mate. I take it you'll have a stash of parcels waiting for you when you get home - lol

  • +2

          Nice one.
Seeing your picture confirms that these 15 GB extra bonus is a permanent one

        • Enthusiast bonus? LOLOLOL, did they see you chanting MS-OneDrive!-MS-OneDrive! while walking down the street or something?

    • +1

I just hit 60GB also. Already had Onedrive on my android phone just set it to synch photos a got the extra storage.

  • Thank you chonghe

  • Thanks, 53Gb

  • Thanks, now on 60gb. Not that i'm anywhere near that limit

  • Nice, 30GB!
Does anyone know why the OneDrive website doesn't sync with my phone's backed up camera roll?

    • +1

Go to OneDrive website > All Photos
      Should see all photos there

      • It says "You haven't uploaded any photos yet" but my Android phone app has over 2000 photos :(

        • +2

          try this:

          1. Check if master sync is ON, it's under device settings Data Usage>Menu>Auto-Sync Data is ON;
          2. Manually trigger the sync by go to device settings Accounts>OneDrive>Sync now;
          3. Disable and enable Camera backup in app again.

        • @chonghe:
I did that to no success. My Windows 8 SkyDrive app has always been working, but the website is still like a whole different ecosystem.

        • +1

          @Fobsessive:
I am sorry but I couldn't help much on this.

  • How exactly do you activate auto upload?
    EDIT: Doesn't matter already active.

  • +2

Nice, already had it and didn't even realise, now time to make use of it.
    Cheers OP

  • 45GB! Thanks :)

  • +1

    40GB!Thanks :)

  • OP, you may have to add for ios 8 users only(iphone/ipad)…i am still on ios7 as my work has asked us to not upgrade till they confirm its ok…. when i try to turn on camera back up, it only gives me 3GB additional storage message…

    • +1

      IOS7 here, 15GB. I think MS don't like you.

      • lol…and they say people dont like them… this is discrimination against greedy people and hoarders…:)

    • Mine gave me the 3gb additional storage message but after activating it you get the 15gb if you check your account storage.

    • @expertreader: gave me that message too, but ended up being 15GB!

    • +2

I did it on iOS6 with an iPod touch 4 LOL.

I was worried about the iOS8 thing and it even told me it was downloading an old version of One Drive, however despite all that I just logged in and enabled camera backup and up to 40GB now!!! Yea!!

  • +1

Chonghe, for a learner you did good!

    I also have 40GB now.

    Nice!

    • +1

long time lurker, first time poster =)
      Cheers

  • Why is it not adding anything to my account, still stopped at 250GB,is it max?

    • +1

wow you already have 250 GB and?
You will need to download the app, activate the auto-backup, let it upload a few photos to see the bonus space.

    • Don't think there is a max I'm currently showing 1.23Tb on mine

  • Ripper tune Boris! 40gb

  • Thanks, loading up 130GB now.

  • +2

You can then turn off the auto upload whilst keeping the bonus space.

  • Thanks, worked perfectly :)

  • Thanks, just what I needed!

  • I'm only offered 3Gb :( Still better than nothing

  • Darn it, I recently upgraded to the 100GB plan because I had too many photos! This is great news though, thanks OP!

    • +4

What? You mean you pay for online storage?

  • +3

Thanks afer SugarSync got rid of their free plans I've been in a mix of Google Drive/One Drive/Copy/Dropbox. I have stuff spread across all of them and I need to work out which one to consolidate all my stuff on.

    • +1

      Use Jolidrive to consolidate. :)

      • +2

Wow, I was thinking of consolidating and simplifying by having one to manage. Jolicloud takes it one step further!

  • I'm up to 65Gb and don't use 1Mb of it.

I certainly would NEVER auto-upload my phone photos to it - Fappening anyone?

    • Just make sure you have no photos when you "activate the auto upload feature for your camera roll" to claim the bonus storage, then deactivate afterwards. You'd think that even a sleb could manage that.

    • +3

OneDrive has the option for two-factor authentication (for well over a year now). Coupled with a good password (poor passwords were the primary factor for the iCloud leaks), you should be fine.

Also, Microsoft will possibly suspend your account if you share expect imagery using it's services. If child-pornography is found on your account, regardless of it being shared or not, the account will be suspended.
      http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows/microsoft-service…

      • Hmm, sounds like MS is a better bet than Apple, again.

      • I just realised I meant to say explicit imagery, not expect imagery.

      • +1

They'll suspend your OneDrive account and entire "Microsoft Account" even for pictures of your kids in the bathtub. Has happened plenty of times to others in the past. I don't quite appreciate MSFT digging through all my data so I'll stick to DropBox.

        • +1

Thanks for the heads up. Guess I'll keep any photos of kids to Dropbox.

        • yeah, Dropbox can be trusted explicitly now that Condy Rice is on the board.

        • @effgee: Until I see Dropbox behaving in a similar way to MSFT with OneDrive; your point about Condoleezza Rice being a board member is moot.

  • Thanks got one but why are people raving about cloud services? I don't see how being able to sync data across devices is that special. What I thought cloud would do is to be able to free up my hard drive disk to add onto their server instead.

    • Well, I have a SP3 which I use to take notes and work on stuff at uni. Since everything is synced with OneDrive:
-If I drop the tablet, nothing is lost as everything is immediately cloud synced.
-I don't need to worry to transfer files over to my desktop when I get home and vice versa.
-Worst case scenario, there's a fire and I loose all my local backups of my 200500 page thesis - but luckily it was cloud synced. It provides a level of data redundancy (but is no substitute for a proper backup solution.)
-My tablet has limited storage, I don't have to download all my cloud files, but I still have access to them if I wanted.
-You take photos on your phone - everything is cloud synced so if the phone is lost, none of your precious selfies are lost either.

      • Your thesis is over 200 000 pages. Guess what: I don't have a single colleague who would review that. Check the 'European' model and slash, slash, slash.

        Then slash again.

        • It's all blank pages, but I'll consider using the European model if I get round to it.

  • +1

Only offered me 3gb but it still shows Im at 40gb total…

  • +1

Now I remember why I uninstalled this… You can't make it upload only while plugged.

    • You can make it upload only on Wifi. That's fair enough.

  • THanks - out of all the cloud services I've used I really like Onedrive the best.

  • only 30GB…:(

    • See the comment above… i think it says 3GB but once you activate it will show 15GB extra…try your luck…

      • +1

I think he/she means not getting the 10 GB loyalty bonus

        • yeah, that is what i meant. :)

  • +3

Thankyou so much OP this has been helpful for me. Especially with specific life time on storage and anything can go wrong with storage devices along the way this is a great way to save important memories

    • +1

I am glad that you find this useful. Cheers

  • Google has unlimited storage. But they reduce the resolution if you choose that option, my opinion is if you use the phone's camera it should be fine unless you are using a proper DSLR…

    • +1

I think many people, once activate the photo backup, will deactivate it (myself even un-install the app)
The key is to get the 15 GB free storage to store other stuff

      • Ok, since im a Google fan i don't bother to do that, just sign up another Google account, instant 15GB Google Drive. However, Google seems doesn't offer any loyalty bonus storage like OP received…

        • +2

I use Google Drive too. What I hate is that when you re-install your OS, or change something on the path etc, you will need to re-download everything from the server! You can't just specify the folder path and let it sync from there.

    • Sony is the same, unlimited backup.

  • +2

FTW 1.06 Tb of storage, thanks to office subscription which adds a Tb.

  • Thanks OP!

  • just wondering, is there a way I can add myself into the random referral links? Just got an extra 0.5gb with someone else =)

    • you are lucky :)
go to setting > referrals to ad links

      • Thanks a lot!

  • -1

Didn't realise I had an account, it shows I have 1054GB………wow!!

    • What? really? Screenshot?

      • -1

Did a screenshot but not sure how to share here…..

        • No worries. 1TB is one hell of a lot!

  • What is the file size limit?

  • Thanks Chongy. You are a legend.

    • +1

      No worries.
I still like chonghe instead of chongy =P

  • I have the same amount for one drive but never use it. Does anyone actually use this with their phone and computer etc.

  • Ive done the backup but its only backing up my recent files on ios8
    Doesnt backup all my photos

  • +1

40GB, Time to upload all my photos! Hope it's secure ;)

  • Someone else may already have asked this, but I cannot see a similar comment/question… Is the extra 15GB permanent? Or just for a limited time (1-2 years)? I have gotten the total 30GB storage, and am contemplating moving from Dropbox, but I won't bother if the extra storage is only temporary.

  • 30GB - thanks for the post

  • 47.3 GB available 60 GB total (although 20GB is a bonus thing which 'falls off' end of year) anyway thanks OP

love OneDrive and it's tile style web view

Don't think I have USB sticks since using cloud storage

  • onedrive always showing me error that 'Camera backup is paused, please open the app'

  • Extended till the end of October… not sure if worth publishing new deals for people that missed this one?

  • +1

just did this. still working till end of october!
