AFAIK from the Sanyo versions of these overnight chargers, these chargers are crap, it will boil batteries that arent completely flat, or if you use it for lesser capacity cells if you have them. It will not fully charge larger capacity cells if you have them either.

The quick charger is the good one.

      AFAIK ?

Proof, reviews or actual experience holds a lot more value than "As Far As I Know"

AFAIK, you could be making that up.

      • -1

Are you aware of the Twicell, Panasonic, Sanyo, Fujitsu control aspects of the Eneloop manufacturing process and name? AFAIK, was based on the notion this is branded as a Panasonic, I have experience with the Sanyo branded version, its more than likely the same given Panasonic still make the smart charger (quick) too.

      • +2

I imagine that they're basing their AFAIK on general knowledge that timer cut based chargers can be known to cook batteries. The older Sanyo (MQN04) o/n charger and this new Panasonic (BQ-CC18) o/n charger are just that… Timer based! Also, they only charge in banks of 2, not individually!
The quick charger (MQR06) that Sanyo used to offer, and still available ex Masters, also had a peak voltage protection built in. It's not the best charger out there, but it was a damn site better than these for it's price!

    • Yeah, it seems it's only a timed charger - http://www.panasonic-eneloop.eu/eneloop-products/chargers.ht…

      Charging control - Timer cut

      • So that equals "it will boil batteries" ?

        • Yes, do some research. It will not switch off until it times out, thus generating heat in the cells for the period between being charged and the timer cutting out. Its not good for them, thats why the smart charger was invented.

For a few bucks more, you can get a charger that is faster, will cut out due to numerous conditions such as properly charged, too much heat, and it has a proper charging algorithm.

You're taking it like Tuba insulted your mother, geeze.

Yes, timed chargers are very bad, unless you enjoy ruining your rechargeable batteries. For a little bit extra, you're better off getting a smart charger like the BQ-CC16.

          @Porthos:

          Sorry? I can't ask a question ?

          You're reading it wrong.

        • @Tuba:

Where do you get these smart chargers for a few bucks more?

        • +1

@nismo: No one said you can't. You do seem to be getting worked up about it though.

        • Masters has them with Gen 3 Eneloops for <$30. I paid $20 for mine, with 4 Gen 2 Eneloops (1500, not 1800 recharges as the Gen 3s have) at Masters.

Note: As posted by another member below.

        • @Tuba:

          Cheers. Will check it out.

        • @Tuba:
I posted the $20 deal a couple of months ago. Not too many left out there now!

          @nexus4:
Even for $30, it's a great start into (Jap) Eneloops with a decent charger!

        • @Tuba:
I posted the $20 deal a couple of months ago. Not too many left out there now!

Nice …thanks. The $20 deal had Gen 2, the current offering is Gen 3, they might have good stocks given a new price, and model compared to the $20 deal. Personally I was more than happy with the $20 deal. Gen 2 are fine cells. The charger is worth easy $20.

        • @Tuba:
Yeah, heaps still around at Masters with the Gen3s @ $30. I got one some time ago when they were doing some free money promo thing. I also grabbed 2 more with the Gen2s when I posted my deal!

    • AFAIK I have the world's biggest penis.

      • So you're admitting to being a giant dick….. smith fan!

Probably worth spending an extra $10 for the $29.95 Eneloop quick charger from Masters (Dick Smith charges $49.95 for this).

    • -2

quick charger is still a timer based charger

      • The Sanyo MQR06 also has a peak voltage protection. I have 3 at home!
Also, the batteries with the Masters ones are the older Jap made Gen3!

      • Smart Charge1/-ΔV /Timer < from the website linked above.

ΔV < this has meaning. (Delta V)

A very special feature is the individual charging, whereas each single cell gets charged on its own. The charging progress gets checked and ended for each single cell via Peak-Cut-Control.

Note what this means when not using a smart charger. Each cell is charged the same, even if it only needs half the charge. This extra charge is just heat, which is bad for the cell.

Its not that it will kill you, but theres not much point buying the worlds best rechargeable cell, and putting it in a nasty charger. Especially if you can get the better charger for $10 more.

  • How many different charger models does Eneloop/Sanyo/Panasonic has?

    • Here's a link to the older Sanyos. And one to the current Panos.

    • Have*

  • You can get the 2TB HDD on DS's website for $114 pick-up or $116 delivered with 10BACK code ($2 Delivery until Friday)

  • So are these chargers still around in masters, whats the best one im confused gen 2, gen 3 etc.i have just purchased a new camera and will need a charger and rechargeable battries the higher I think battery the better.
So what do I need to look for at masters as I have one local to me and could drop in and see what they have unless they have no longer got these.
So what should I be looking for.

    • Gen 1 500 cycles -Sanyo
      Gen 2 1500 cycles -Sanyo
      Gen 3 1800 cycles -Sanyo
      Gen 4 2100 cycles -Panasonic

Masters no longer has them under $30. Try COTD with this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/164922 that is the Panasonic branded fast smart charger.

In Panasonic chargers, you want the one with the number 16 in it.
In Sanyo chargers, you want the model number MQR06, not the MNR. MQR is the smart charger in the Sanyo branded era.

      • Another decent deal for just the charger though is the Panasonic BQ-392 for $15.58US delivered. I have one (although I purchased mine from Fasttech but they're out of stock and have been for a while) but ordered one for my sister from that eBay seller and it's exactly the same as mine.

It's a good smart charger if you just want a cheap one.

All you need is a $1 plug adaptor.

        • I hate things on Flea Bay from China, feels too much like a fake. Not necessarily true, but it feels that way to me. For some reason Im OK with FT and BG.

Im fairly certain Panasonic stopped making it some time ago so… who knows. If its the real deal though, he is right, its a decent charger.

    • Sorry to say bwatt, but Masters was the best deal going around until they just 'very recently' jacked their prices up for no real reason! At $20 was a steal, at $30 wasn't too bad, at $50 is now just a rip off for what is existing old stock!

  • Wish I was looking for one back then as got a masters not far from me,went in store just to see and had the racks and $30 price still but no chargers so probably sold them all shame there was no chargers on the rack as could have haggled for the advertised price.
I suppose any other masters here in wa will have changed there price tags if still stock
