        Rep,

Australian Models Samsung Galaxy S4 & S4 4G (LTE) do not support 1700mhz AWS which is what T-mobile USA primarily use for their DC-HSPA+ network that they brand as "4G" (For reference, Australia refers to this as 3G or 3.5G).

Luckily the S4 does support 1900mhz HSPA+, which is a luxury - not many Australian phones do.

Chongy288 will be lucky to get patchy 1900mhz HSPA+ 3G 'up to' 21Mbps, patchy 2G roaming and patchy roaming onto 850mhz HSPA+ 3G 'up to' 21Mbps on AT&T. His phone supports just a fraction of the bands which T-mobile USA has to offer, and the bands he has is not the main ones in use so it will be quite limited to major areas.

He would have better 3/3.5G coverage on AT&T with this phone, but still with no 4G LTE.

Most Australian Phones don't support 1700mhz AWS or 1900mhz HSPA+ either, a good portion supports 850mhz but not all. I am not aware of any Australian market phones that support USA-compatible 4G LTE.

I think that you should research your network bands before giving advice, and device rental would go a long way.

          Thanks The Land of Smeg,

It looks like you are right in regards to the Samsung Galaxy S4 not receiving the 4G LTE Speeds. You will only get 4G Speeds (HSPA+ Speeds).

We are very sorry, this is an error made on my end. We will look to put something in the description to hopefully make things a bit more clearer for customers.

          Sorry again for the error.

        • @SimCorner: But you would not get any T-mobile "4G" (non-LTE version) either! T-mobile "4G" (non-LTE) uses 1700 AWS band which Galaxy S4 doesn't have either. Only some patches of 3G 1900mhz will work and roaming on 2G or AT&T 850mhz (which isn't even the full AT&T spectrum - it is also in patches).

        • @The Land of Smeg:

We've had a larage amount of feedback in that the major cities the 1900mhz will most likely give you HSPA+. In our first deal, their was a comment from a previous customer whom had purchased a T-Mobile sim from us and advised the coverage was great in NY and LA.

I agree that in rural areas, AT&T is definitely the way to go. I

However, if the customer is not entirely happy with the service provided we will provide a full refund.

Please note we greatly appreciate the information you have provided.

        • @SimCorner: this is terribly confusing and misleading prior to my purchase last night…

I was expecting 4G mobile internet for computer hotspot use and uploading photos of the holiday.. I suspect this will not be adequate for such a purpose…
As stated prior, if I am not happy with my network on my return I can get a full refund including shipping?

is AT&T the best network to go for for my S4(I9505)? Is there no network in the States that support 4G for the I9505, simular to Australia's 4G network?

Thanks for pointing this MAJOR problem out The Land of Smeg, saved me a bunch of problems.

        • @Chongy288: Honestly this is all getting into technical stuff. We have sold T-Mobile sim cards to a large number of people who have had the Samsung S4 and no one has ever complained of the speed. Hotspotting and uploading photos will not be an issue. If you are unstill uncertain - then rest assured we will provide you a full refund if you encounter any issues. We can not stress enough that you are being worried for no reason.

        • @Chongy288: Just to update on this

I think that the SIM card plan itself is a good deal - $55 AUD for unlimited SMS/calls to USA, unlimited SMS/landlines calls (not mobile) to Australia, 5GB data. The only question is coverage and speed at "4G" - this is the only negative on the deal is the unclear information about this, I don't even know if this SIM card offers T-mobile LTE access or not.

From what I can tell, in those major cities you listed - Chicago, Washington, Boston and New York - there is plenty of 1900mhz but at 3G speeds (or as T-mobile calls it, "4G", even though it is only up to 21Mbps HSPA+).

          http://support.t-mobile.com/community/coverage/blog/2013/12/…

My speculation is that there will be plenty of 21Mbps HSPA+ but also plenty of Blackspots (Slow "4G", Only 2G or nothing at all) but I have not been to these places to know.

I would take your S4 i9505 and see how it goes, and if you find that it is not up to par, be prepared to pop into a Walmart (and American experience in itself) and get one of these:

  • Hi simcorner,

I didn't enter an IMEI number when ordering this sim, will it matter for activation purposes?

    Thanks!

    • Hi chenc64,

      Yes, the IMEI is required.

Can you please e-mail [email protected] with your order number and IMEI number so the activation team can process accordingly.

      Thank you.

      • Thanks guys,

Just emailed, please let me know when you get it.

        Thanks,

        • Our support team advised you should have received a return e-mail confirming receipt of your IMEI and order number.

    • what is this? i didn't enter this either.. how do i find it?

      • If you dial *#06# on your mobile phone it will come up on your screen. It's basically a unique ID number for your phone. The T-Mobile sim will be registered to that phone. This process is required by T-Mobile for activation. You will still be able to use the sim in any phone once activated.

  • Does anyone know if am iPhone 5s purchased on plan from Optus would be unlocked? I really want to get this sim for my upcoming US trip but I'm concerned my phone is carrier locked. I spoke to someone at the Optus shop who said all their iPhones are unlocked but she didn't sound 100% sure and I wasn't convinced.

    • +1

      Hi Melmac77,

All iPhone 5s come unlocked on a plan regardless of which Australian carrier you are with. The iPhone 5s with Optus, Telstra and Vodafone all come unlocked on a plan.

      • Thank You!

        • You're welcome melmac77.

Please let us know if you have any other queries.

        • +1

          @SimCorner: Purchased :D

        • @melmac77: Your USA T-Mobile sim card will be dispatched tomorrow :D

  • Sounds like a great deal, and I'm heading to the U.S soon. Will probably get one with express shipping.

But just one thing I"m unsure of - will my phone work with 3G/4G data over there on T-Mobile? From what I've read, the 1900MHz frequency on HSPA should be all I need for 3G to work. Is that right?

But what about their LTE network? What frequency is required?

Any info would be helpful - thanks!

    • Hi ah,

Their LTE network uses 1700MHz and 2100MHz.

If you can please advise which phone you will be using in the USA? We can then confirm it's capability for you.

      • Thanks for the quick reply. I have a Telstra-branded HTC 8X, which only has these 2 LTE frequencies -> 1800 and 2600 MHz.

        And these HSPA frequencies:
        HSPA/WCDMA: 850/900/1900/2100 MHz

So am I correct in saying that I will only be able to use their HSPA+ network (up to 42 Mbps)? Or just the HSPA network (up to 14 Mbps)?

        • They have been "refarming" or moving HSPA+ traffic to the 1900MHz for well over 2 years now from where there was only 2G.

So where they have done this you will get HSPA+. From what i have checked on line this has been completed in most major cities so you will get HSPA+. If not then you will get HSPA.

If you Google "T-Mobile refarming 1900MHz" you will get some nice reads on what they have been doing.

  • Hi Rep. Yanks have a different definition of 4G as we do. Is this 4G HSPA+ (What we consider 3G) or is it 4G LTE? Do you offer any device rentals?

    • Hi Land of Smeg,

They do seem to have a different definition or ranking to their data speeds in comparison to us in Australia. They note 3G, 4G, and 4G LTE speeds.

Since they actually note 3G speeds i would assume their 4G is probably quite a bit faster than our 3G (3.5G if you will). Based on some of our customer feedback whom have used T-Mobile on a 4G capable device, the general feedback is that the speeds are pretty zippy.

Unfortunately, we currently don't offer any device rentals.

      • I find these claims to be quite dubious as we already have a 3G "3.5G" network known as Telstra NextG that is miles ahead of any USA HSPA+/DC-HSPA+ network. If your customers were supplying their own devices from Australia, I doubt their speeds were 'pretty zippy' or that they had much coverage at all since most Australian phones don't properly support T-mobile frequency bands even if unlocked.

        • This is not true. With most new smart phones now they don't come with just the specific frequency bands for the country. I.E the Samsung Galaxy S4 and iPhone 5s for example are considered "World Phones" that basically cover every single frequency band.

With that being said most recent smartphones come with many frequency bands that are suitable with T-Mobile's network.

T-Mobile has also been refarming it's 2G network to HSPA+ on the 1900MHz band for well over 2 years, which is a band most Australian phones have.

        • @SimCorner: Nope.

          1900mhz is 3G, not even T-mobile advertise it as "4G". S4 & 5S don't support 1700mhz AWS that T-mobile primarily uses for "4G" & 4G LTE.

No such thing as a "World Phone" except in Apple Talk when they launched the iPhone 4S… back when Apple ignored T-mobile's existence. No the 4S doesn't support AWS either.

          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AWS_devices

        • @The Land of Smeg:

Agree. Been doing some research myself and iPhones don't seem to be compatible. Even SMH has an article saying that it's not 100% compatible, but did say that in some select areas, the Aus iPhone will be compatible with 3G, but otherwise 2G EDGE only.

On another note. My Sony Xperia Z2 is almost a "world phone". it's compatible with most worldwide bands as well as AWS

          Sony Xperia Z2 D6503: UMTS HSPA+ 850 (Band V), 900 (Band VIII), 1700 (Band IV),1900 (Band II), 2100 (Band I) MHz; GSM GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz; LTE (Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 13, 17, 20).

        • @skysky:

          Hi again skysky,

Based on feedback and experience, I highly recommend using your iphone 5s or 5 instead of the Sony Xperia Z2.

If you are not entirely happy with the service, a full refund will be provided.

        • @SimCorner:

Really? why? What was the experience/feedback with Z2?

        • @skysky:

This stuff is so confusing :(
I have an iPhone 6, will i get 4G or LTE Speeds (and are they the same thing)?

        • @skysky:

It was more so the positive experience customers had using the iPhone 5s or 5. Feel free to use the Xperia Z2.

We don't have many customers using the Xperia Z2 to get proper feedback. It's usually iPhones, Samsung Galaxy's, HTC's etc, which we've been told have worked a treat. Based on the multiple bands you've shown it should work the same as the others.

        • +1

          @chir0nex:

          Hi Chir0nex,

You will get 4G Speeds. It is a little bit confusing as Australia and USA have different definitions of 4G. The 4G you will get in USA is HSPA+ speeds. This is faster than 3G but not really 4G either in comparison to Australia.

General feedback has been that the speeds a pretty fast, so you won't have anything to worry about. In the USA LTE is minimally faster than 4G.

        • +1

          @SimCorner:

Thanks SimCorner! Love your response, really helpful!
I get the feeling utilising these sims will be just as easy.

I think i will still get the 3GB $35 one, easier than tethering and less battery drain. But thanks for the honest advice, love it!

        • @skysky: I had a look at the Z2 D6503, very impressive and quite right that it is almost a "world phone" - the closest I have seen yet; surprisingly supporting both Australia's main LTE band (1800mhz Band 3) and T-mobiles/AT&T's LTE bands (1900mhz Band 2, 1700mhz Band 4, 700mhz Band 17) and of course supporting the 1700mhz AWS HSPA+ (T-mobile "4G" HSPA+).

Missing is T-mobile 700mhz Band 12 (Not common yet), Optus' 2300mhz TDD Band 40 (Not common yet) & Australia's upcoming 700mhz Band 28. No big deal yet.

Interestingly the Z3 has not continued with this compatibility of both Australian and US LTE networks, but it has retained the 1700mhz AWS HSPA+ so it's still a good choice for AT&T & T-mobile on HSPA+ speeds.

I would definitely use the Z2 in the US over any other Australian model that I have seen so far.

There is also Sprint & Verizon networks which also have LTE, but they have a CDMA backend so any Australian phone model is out of the question.

I got tickets via. Air New Zealand deal so I'm looking at my options to get equipment which properly supports the all bands with hotspot functionality. I prefer to rent, but so far the cheapest option to buy costs around $100 USD.

Here are the handsets I have found so far:

Nokia Lumia 635 locked to T-mobile:
          http://www.walmart.com/ip/T-Mobile-Nokia-Lumia-635-Prepaid-S…

Nokia Lumia 635 locked to AT&T GoPhone:
          http://www.walmart.com/ip/AT-T-Nokia-Lumia-635-Prepaid-Smart…

Nokia Lumia 928 locked to Verizon (would have to order it to an address):
          http://www.verizonwireless.com/prepaid/4g-smartphone-plans/n…

I'm 50% sure they will unlock it for free if you tell them you are permanently taking it back with you overseas, but the 'customer service' in the United States, particularly Telcos, are notoriously bad - and dealing with Australian Telcos is bad enough.

        • I also found that the Australian Model iPhone 6 & iPhone 6 Plus supports T-mobile extremely well for HSPA+ & LTE. Just not T-mobile 700mhz LTE Band 12 which is not a big deal at the moment.

  • Can the sim be swapped between 2 phones, or is it locked to whatever imei number you register?

    • Hi SBOB

Yes the sim cards can be swapped between different phones. We just need the IMEI number for activation. Once your sim has been activated you can swap into any other unlock phone.

      • Thanks… asked that question before seeing the Jan 31st activation date..
I need one for the last week of Feb/first week of March, so the 30 day expiry won't work for me..

Any sims with a later activation date on sale?

        • Sorry SBOB, for this sale at the moment it's only up until Jan 31st.

  • Just wanted to check, if I purchase now will it be good for a trip May 2015?
Is there an expiry date for purchase?

    • When does my sim card have to be activated by?
Your sim card must be activated by 31 January 2015. If you are traveling after this period - we advise that you purchase a sim card closer to the date.

And it only lasts 30 days so… out of luck

I wanted one for end feb/start of march but based on that expiry and time limit I'm out of luck

    • Hi fz7hny,

As SBOB has stated unfortunately for this sales it needs to be activated by jan31st.

  • Sounds good. I'm off to the US at the end of the month, so I'll get my order in soon :)

    • Hi Mjcowley,

Just remember offer expires October 18th so don't wait too long :)

  • Hi Rep,

I've just placed an order for one SIM. I want to place another order for a iPhone 5S, can you confirm whether it will work on T-Mobile's LTE network? Or just 3G only?

    Thanks.

    • Good Morning skysky,

      The iPhone 5s supports T-Mobiles 4G network :)

      • +2

        Rep,

        Please stop with this shenanigans.

Australian iPhone 5S does not support T-mobile's "4G" HSPA+ or 4G LTE networks even though your deal appears to be for "4G" HSPA+ (3.5G really).

Australian model is A1530 which does not support 1700/2100 AWS HSPA+ or any USA LTE Bands
USA model is A1533 which does support 1700/2100 AWS HSPA+ and USA LTE bands.

        T-mobile's "4G" HSPA+ runs on 1700/2100mhz AWS primarily.

        https://www.apple.com/au/iphone-5s/specs/
        https://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/
        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-Mobile_US#Radio_frequency_spe…

        • As stated the iphone 5s supports 1900MHz which T-Mobile has for the last couple of year been refarming 4G onto the 1900MHz band. This has occurred in most major cities and feedback from customers supports this.

Please note 4G with T-mobile is not the same as what Australia classifies as 4G. The 4G with T-Mobile is considered HSPA+. However, based on customer feedback we have received they have noted that the speeds have been quick and the coverage is great in major cities.

If the customer is not entirely happy with the service we will provide a full refund.

  • how about an iPhone5 (not S)? Will this work on 4G/LTE?

    • Hi Tangy,

T-Mobiles data speed rankings go 2G, 3G, 4G and 4G LTE. Your iphone5 will get the 4G (HSPA+) but may not be able to get 4G LTE.

Australian stock iPhone 5 (not s) is model number A1429 not A1428 so it won't support T-mobile "4G" HSPA+ or 4G LTE, only patches of 1900 mhz band they use for infill.

      • We have placed the link to the Wiki page with the frequency bands you noted above.

Please note we have to advertise as what T-Mobile market their 4G as. You are correct in saying that, the HSPA+ they market as 4G which is noted on the wiki link you provided that is also on the 1900MHz band.

We have noted the difference in the description as well that 4G with T-mobile is HSPA+.

  • Hi Sim Corner,

i will be traveling to states in November

November 20th to 24th in vegas
November 24th to 28th in Vancouver
November 28th to December 4th in LA

do you have any other plans that would suit me for the minimal travel that i will be doing ?

    • Hi Gillystylez,

Unfortunately, we only have 30 day prepaid options for the USA. Please note this a definitely a great deal even if you were just going for the 15 days.

      • would the service work overseas as roaming in Vancouver ?

        • Unfortunately, it will not allow you to roam in Vancouver.

        • @SimCorner:

          sorry quick question …

how long does it take to ship to australia post code 2000

Unlimited International calls to landlines to over 50 countries ( is that completly unlimited or is there cap min limit )

how much does it cost to call mobile interntionally ?

        • @gillystylez:

Shipping occurs the next day after order via Australia Post. Depending which option you chose, Australia Post generally advise 5-7 Working days for Regular/Standard shipping. Sometimes it's a lot less, sometimes a bit more.

If you choose express post, then it's 1-3 business days.

We dispatch from Sydney and Melbourne so to reach post code 2000 technically should only take a couple of days via Australia Post when shipped from Sydney even when using standard shipping, however we are relying on Australia Post's services, which is at times inconsistent in their delivery time.

        • @SimCorner: understood thank you

how much would it cost to call australian mobiles from this sim whilst in america.

        • @gillystylez:

Apologies, I missed the second part to your question.

It's $0.20 cents per minute to call back an Australian Mobile whilst in America. This is noted in the ad's description in a little more details as well.

Also, the Unlimited Calls to Landlines is not capped.

@SimCorner: All good - i just ordered mine
          Your order # is: 100001256.
          thank you

  • Like the idea of the site. I hate buying travel sims always opting to buy a local pre-paid. Being able to buy a local prepaid card before I leave takes the annoyance out of arriving in a foreign country tired and trying to not get screwed over.

Shame you don't have any Vietnam cards. I would have bought 5.

    • Hi SirFlibbled,

      Thanks for the feedback.

Can you please confirm when you are traveling?

SimCorner is currently in talks of securing sim cards for Vietnam with one of their major carriers.

      • Leaving 21 Dec.

        • I would check back on the SimCorner website in about 4 weeks or e-mail us at [email protected] around that time and we can provide you an update on how far the Vietnam sim cards are :)

        • Sorry, i have been informed that we might get them in even sooner than that. Please e-mail us at [email protected] so we can inform you once we get them in.

        • @SimCorner:

          Would love vietnam cards too!
          I would definitely get some.

Also, purchased one from this deal. Any specials on your Data only plan, i would like one for my ipad too!

          @chir0nex:

Please e-mail us at [email protected] in regards to Vietnam sim cards so we can keep you updated.

Unfortunately, no specials on the Data Only plans. However, you can hotspot/tether 5GB of Data with the USA sim card from your phone to the iPad. Saves you purchasing a data sim for your iPad. I can note from a previous comment that you have an iPhone 6 so you will be able to hotspot.

  • Hi, I have already purchased one of your sims and was wondering if my Samsung note 3 will work on the T-Mobile network over in the US.

    I sure hope so :)

  • Hi BushRangerJones,

Yes, it will work on your Samsung Note 3.

  • You've got to be kidding me!! I bought the $50 card online yesterday. I'm guessing my order, #100001194 has already shipped!?

      Hi carlenet,

Can you please e-mail us at [email protected] since it's not allowing us to private message you on OzBargain.

      Thanks.

      • Sorry, I have private messages on now. :)

It's showing as "sent" hence I think I'm a tad too late.

MASSIVE kudos to SimCorner who have kindly assisted me in upgrading my SIM card/plan. Thank you for your professionalism!

  • Hi Rep,

I'm travelling to the US on the 6th of Feb. If I get it activated on the 31st of Jan, does that mean I can use the sim until the 1st/2nd of March 2014? Where do I need to activate it, in Oz or in the US? Because if I have to activate it when I'm in the US, then I can't avail of this deal. Also will the SIM fit an iPhone6 or HTC One M7?

    Thanks

    • Hi GerryG,

We do the activation for based on your arrival date. I will have someone private message to assist you further. We have sim cards for all phones including the iPhone 6 and HTC One M7.

  • Another follow up question, where can I find the list of countries for SMS and free landline calls? Thanks.

    • It's on our product page for the USA sims but i've provided the link below for your convenience.

The first page lists the countries for Unlimited Landline calls.

The following pages lists the countries for Free SMS.

  • Dear SimCorner, I'm travelling in early January 2015. Is it too early to buy this sim now? Should I wait until late Nov/early Dec before buying?

    • Dear csg001,

It's not too early at all, it's a good idea to buy now especially since it's a great deal. However, if you feel more comfortable buying closer to the date then feel free to do so.

  • Hi Rep,
I plan to live in California for 6 months, starting from 31/12/2014. Can I buy this SIM and extend it after 30 days? If so, what is the cost?

    • Hi Daquatrio,

You can definitely buy this sim and extend it after 30 days. However, please note the same package we are offering at $55AUD will cost you $90USD the second month with T-Mobile in the USA. $80 for the Unlimited Data and Unlimited Local talk and Text +$10 For the international Calls to Landlines.

There are cheaper monthly packs that come with less data and you don't have to get the Unlimited Calls to Australian landline so after the 30 days you can change to something cheaper. I've provided the link below from T-Mobile's website showing what 30 days prepaid options they have. You can create a T-Mobile account online once your sim is activated and then you can manage your prepaid account online.

      • Thank you.
Unfortunately I have just bought two SIMs at $55 each, one for myself and one for my son. Can you please allow me to cancel one of them? Much appreciated if you do. I have left a message to your Voice Mail, as well as emailed you.
Hope you allow me to do it.

        • Hi Daquatrio,

I see that you have e-mailed us. This will be fine and we will be able to refund you. Someone will respond via e-mail to confirm.

Simcorner customer service has been wonderful! Thanks Tanya for sorting out everything for us.

I highly recommend them - much easier then what I have done on my past few trips in having to find an AT&T store and then purchase a plan etc.. Hoping TMobile is up to the task.

  • I used T-mobile earlier this year. Fine in the big smoke but found it bad compared to others in more remote places like around some of the big national parks (Yellowstone, Sequoia, etc.)

Thanks for the swift delivery; received my SIM in the mail this afternoon! :)

  • Any chance I can upgrade to this deal from the prior $40 Prepaid USA and Hawaii Travel Sim Card with 5GB of 4G deal I purchased? I haven't used the sim yet, not due in the US til mid December.

    • Please contact [email protected] with your order number and we can look at arranging something for you.
