  • Vodafone kills it.

    • +1

      The 512Mb ram kills it

      • +7

Actually Windows works really compared to others on 512mb

        • Its a good deal, but you would think a Quad core Phone would at least have 1GB Ram in todays standards

        • +3

@easternculture: If it was a new phone yes :)

        • +2

          @TRENT86:

          Thanks TRENT … upvoted

        • @easternculture: Yeah but, "the Lumia 630 moves at blazing fast speeds for a superior experience at an affordable price." Best buying windows phone around.

      • +4

Disagree! 512MB in a Windows phone is as good as a 1 GB in an android phone. Check this link to see a comparison in the tech stack.

        • The argument against Android because of Dalvik is no longer the case in Lollipop as the app got compiled into a native ELF executable at installation time. Many are already using ART in KitKat although I don't see any improvement in memory nor battery usage.

        • WP8 is at the stage now where it really needs 1GB of RAM though. On 512MB phones now it's a constant stream of "Loading…" and "Resuming…" screens.

It's still a great OS for low spec phones, much better than Android and iOS, but 512MB phones are now clearly lagging in performance.

          @scotty:

Incidentally, from my little foray into Win8/WinRT apps, they also run on top of a bytecode interpreter (WinRT/.NET) or even a full interpreted language (HTML/JS).

Both Android and Windows Phone have allowed apps to ship native code for a while now, where performance is required.

That said, from what I've seen WP tends to react better to low memory conditions than Android.

  • unlockable?

    • +1

Yes but you will have to pay

  • +2

    Nice find Trent, cheapest ever.

  • +2

Thanks OP. Almost bought this the other night from DSE for $99. Wifes iPhone 4 died today so this will do nicely!

  • Wondering what you guys think this one vs Sony Xperia E1 that is currently $89 in BigW.

    • +2

Buy it for $81 delivered too @ dse http://www.dicksmith.com.au/prepaid-mobile-phones/optus-sony… :)
      The specs for E1
      480 x 800 pixels,
      4GB Internal
Android which doesn't work the best on 512MB but works ok
      3MP camera
      Android kitkat soon apparently

      • +1

Wow an Android phone with 512MB RAM - would be interested to see them side by side. I have a Lumia 630 and it's great value for money.

      • Thanks for your feedback Trent86

  • thanks..

  • I own lumia 630. It is great phone. 512 Mb ram is ok. Sometimes when u open more than one apps or internet tabs, u see the phone home screen struggling to show the pictures on tiles. But phone still works(does not slowdown, crash or hang) and you can swipe around with no pictures.

I got this phone last time with the Amex rebate. You wont be able to unlock it from any third party source. Your options are limited to paying Voda $75 now or $25 in six months time.

    • Agree, I bought it last time and tried several companies via internet but they refunded money that they cannot unlock this. So if you use vodafone/ Lebara you should be ok. Otherwise wait for better unlock deal.

  • +4

    Trent86 you've done it again!

  • How much does it cost to unlock?

  • I picked up one of these at 90 bucks. Couldn't get it unlocked for any less than 75 through VF. Its alright, but obviously can't hold a candle to my LG G2.

I'm not totally sold on Windows Phone either, but its probably better than most Android budget phones at this price.

  • have this phone for $84 last deal. really happy, screen very sharp, camera good

  • +4

This is a great price. If you don't like Windows Phone, use it in the car as a GPS with free worldwide offline maps http://360.here.com/2014/04/02/free-drive-everyone-windows-p…

  • Are these phones quad-band ? ie Would it run on telstra 850 3g if unlocked ?

    • WCDMA network: 850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1900 MHz, 2100 MHz.
.WCDMA max data speed DL: HSDPA - 21.1 Mbps .
.WCDMA max data speed UL: HSUPA - 5.76 Mbps .
.GSM network: 850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 1900 MHz.
.GSM max data speed DL: EGPRS 296.0 kbps .
.GSM max data speed UL: EGPRS 236.8 kbps .

I bought it last time when it was $85 delivered. Never bother have it unlocked. I inserted the included Vodafone sim and a spare 64G microsd card. Now I have music player & full-featured car GPS with me all the time. Never to worry about the data or offline maps!.

If I visit someplace have free wifi like McDonald or shopping centre, I use it to check OZ Bargain website.

  • +2

For those considering this phone, after spending the $75 to unlock it you would have been better off buying the Lumia 636 outright from Optus for $240. It's the same phone but with 4G LTE and 1GB of RAM.

  • I have been looking for cheap Windows phone since last couple of months. Search ended :) Thank you TRENT86…

    • You just got in!

  • My Nexus 4 is dying. Any good <$250 Android replacements? Don't think I could live without my apps..

    • Htc desire 816.
Kogan has the Sony Z for $300 I have it ( had it since last year) it is a great phone and better specs than a new model thats $200-300.

  • moto G 2nd gen

  • +1

Build quality on nokia is very hit and miss. My nokia 520 died sitting unused for 3 months for no reason. Not impressed by MS/WINDOWS after slaes service (if you can find it) BUT in its favor the OS is solid, runs fast on even the most basic hardware with only a few games needing more than 512mb.

  • +1

has anyone had good experience with this lumia?

    • +1

Fantastic phone for the price. Great camera and very smooth UI. It may be worth paying more for the Lumia 636 if you are going to do lots of messaging or gaming etc. as there is a delay in switching between apps due to the 512 MB RAM.

  • Thanks Trent. You are a deal posting machine!!

  • Would this be good as an mp3 player?

My gf is after something 64gb+ (using microsdxc) and I'm not really sure of options. She's only after an mp3 player but I was thinking a phone might be a better way of doing it?

    • The Xbox Music app isn't very good, so probably not lol. It's laggy, buggy, and just a pain to use.

  • If you rely on mobile data heavily through the VF network this twice before purchasing. The feature which enables a "3G only" mobile network connection has been removed from the OS such that the phone keeps on switching between 3g/2G which impacts on data usage. Browsing a webpage for a few seconds will take around 30-50MB instead of few kilobytes due to this. Other wise if you can live without the front camera, phone has great performance. Bought it for $99 so above price is great

  • Can somebody share receipt for price-match at other stores ?

  • Tried to buy at 11:30 last night and the voucher was expired….not happy :(

    • don't worry it will be on again very soon
