    +$2 delivery I assume.

    • Yeah $2 delivery..

On a side note, anybody else also waiting on their Eneloops from the deal a week ago?

      • Is that the $10 for 8 chocolat COTD deal? I just received mine yesterday. I am in Sydney.

        • Tropical ones, mine is stuck on Awaiting Fulfillment in the DSE My Orders page :|

        • @cwongtech: Mine arrived yesterday. Now I'm in the process of trying to give them back! Bloody chinese-made Eneloops. Grrrr!! lol

        • @cwongtech: Those were tropical! Noooo, I didn't know. Was wanting a different flavour :(

        • @Giteau: I believe cwongtech meant he ordered tropicals, not the chocolat from the cotd deal.

        • @daerka: Yep, that's what I'm referring to as well :)

        • @Giteau: Well, seems to be exactly the same battery now anyhow, just a different color! :(

      • +1

I got mine on Tuesday (from Dick Smith).

Be aware… these chocolate eneloops are made in china, not japan (which I imagine is why they are cheaper than the previous $20 deals).
Anyone know what the long term difference is?

        • +13

My DSE AA Tropicals arrived yesterday. Was saddened to find they are the Chinese ones(not in a racist way though). There's a test of them here http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?392229-Ja…

        • +1

          @Stevesie76:
Great link Stevesie76. This confirms ealier more informal testing.
So there it is folks. These Chinese ones are showing as significantly inferior under these test conditions.

This batch died at 450-500 cycles under heavy charge /discharge testing vs Japanese ones!!!
        • @Stevesie76: Great link indeed. I hope Dick Smith will realize that they can't ship chinese-made Eneloops if the description clearly indicates these are made in Japan.

        • @daerka: just looked at the description for the Eneloop AAA it doesn't mention made in Japan anywhere.

        • @lplau: That comment referred to the tropical (deal from last week). All Chocolat for the Australian market are made in China, I'm aware.

        • @daerka:

Yep, and sorry to drag this off the topic of this AAA deal, but the image and description in the link to the AA Tropicals shows Japan Sanyo cells, which is obviously misleading. I bought them thinking I was getting the last of the Japan cells.

        • @Stevesie76:

Thanks for the linky Stevesie. Very informative, and looking for more results of tests like these.

Still, $2 for a pack of 8, I'll probably still buy he crappier chinese eneloops :P

        • @Stevesie76:
          I knew there had to be a catch… :(

        • -1

          @Stevesie76:

I received my tropicals too and I they are Panasonic, made in China. The DSE store page descriptions shows Sanyo, made in Japan. I am certainly walking these back to a DSE shop…

          @Stevesie76:

Thanks for posting the link to the review.

I'm actually the author of that review - it's good to see the word getting around! :-)

        • @Stevesie76:

So having read the link you provided, from this point on, is fair to say that:

          • "Panasonic" branded Eneloops are Made in China. Seemingly for markets outside of Japan.

          • There an exception that "Panasonic" branded Eneloops sold in Japan are still Made in Japan?

Seems I was lucky enough to get Sanyo Tropical Eneloops when they didn't have enough Rouge back in March 2013

        • +1

          @Donatello:

As far as I'm aware, in Australia, the Panasonic branding directly correlates to them being made in China, yes.

In other markets, that isn't the case - Japan being a primary example. As far as I'm aware, Panasonic branded Japanese made Eneloops are also being sold in Europe and North America and of course possibly also other markets. That may change of course.

      • A week ago… Try WEEKS ago. They listed Rouge & Chocolat. I bought Rouge - they sent chocolat. Rang them. Said they'd send a courier to pick up the Rouge and deliver chocolat. I said I wanted Rouge in my hand FIRST. Yes, that's the way I'm arranging it, I was told. More weeks waiting - nothing. Read on here, they're claiming they don't have Rogue, only chocolat. Go to a DSE store - store doesn't even HAVE chocolat - but has DOZENS of Rouge - and the manager can't even find chocolat in his database. (So, so much for DSE only having chocolat but no Rouge in stock.)

Manager swaps them over for me - saying he'll get a code so he can resell the chocolat. And he did this even though I didn't even have the invoice - or prove who I am - or that I bought them from DSE!

        Full marks for DSE manager.
        ZERO points for DSE online.

        • Seems a huge waste of everyone's time for batteries with different colours.

        • @Davo1111:

Not really. To everyone's best knowledge, all the Rouge ones are the older generation made in Japan ones, which based on recent reviews, are better than the newer generation Chocalat ones.

If I ordered some Rouge ones, expecting to get the last of the Jap made ones and got newer crappier Chocolat ones, I would be doing the same thing, kicking up a stink until they gave me what I ordered.

Same thing happened to me, bought Rouge in September, had to chase up the order 3 weeks after only to be sent Chocolate when the price dropped from $20 to $17, had to chase up several times to get a $3 refund, and I let the fact they substituted the product I bought with an inferior (and cheaper, I paid $20 for Rouge and they sent me Chocolate available for $17) slide.

I wonder why DS has their foot so firmly planted on the accelerator with these?
There was once a time when Ozbargain would flip with a price like this….now not so much.
It's weird that when they are not selling them for $14.00, they are $49.95 does anyone pay that? There is a point where they discount an item so often, they would wreck any chance of ever selling it at its "retail" price. Might as well just call it a day and lower the overall price.

    • Sadly not every Australian is a ozbargainer (although they should be).
I've seen people purchase eneloops at retail price, they just never knew that the price could be that cheap until few weeks later they noticed they got ripped off.

      • Well yes, that is another outcome; annoying your customers who buy them at over 3x the price on an "off" day.
Perhaps some middle manager accidentally held down the zero key when ordering the Chocolat Eneloops last time 'round.

    • I guess the people buying them for $49.95 are lowering the price for us. Dick Smith wouldn't be losing any money on this deal, just making up for it when an average joe buys it for the inflated price of $49.95!

      • I doubt dicksmith is losing money.

I remember going to Japan early this year, and they sell it for this price 24/7.
They also sell the Eneloop Pro (better than these) for around $15-20 for 8 pack.

I used to do casual at Dick Smith. People buying eneloops in stores were:

Person comes up to counter "I want some rechargable batteries"
Me "I recommend the eneloops" Show them the basic 4 back of AAs with a charger

EDIT: no longer associated but ozB won't let me not be associated any more

    Must not…. buy…. any.. more.. Eneloops. @@

  • +2

Do these come in Strawberry ?

    • +4

No but they definitely do Vanilla.

    • +3

      Sure they do.

    • +9

      Hahaha

  • i don't get what you guys are using all these batteries for? literally other than my TV remotes i don't use anything else that uses batteries.

great deal if you have use for them but no benefit to me :)

    • +1

There is plenty that uses AA and AAA batteries.

Game Controller, Torches, ***toys, unlimited possbilities!

    • +2

Well… if you own camera flashes, they chew on these. Also, console controllers and other peripherals. And if you have kids and they have battery powered toys… well you can see the multitude of uses these batteries have for people.

    • +1

I use them for my flashes(AA) and triggers(AAA). Got a lot from the cotd.

I should use them to brag to my friends that my eneloops are chocolate coloured.

    • Kids toys, cordless phones, clocks, torches, baby monitor, weather monitoring system, aircon remote. Just the ones that leap to mind.

Reversing sensor light in the garage. Suction pump for the fish tank. I'm sure there would be more if I thought about it.

    • We spend a bit of time camped out bush. Use the batteries for a radio to hear the depressing news. Torches and lamps, also can be away from camp or vehicle at times, so have 2 way radios and gps units, always have spares in backpack for a back-up. Plus the usual remote controls, cordless keyboard and mouse etc.

    • if you have kids or game consoles you need rechargeable, otherwise move along I guess

  • +2

eneloops and china torches… it goes together like chocolate and ice cream

  • +1

So these AAA Chocolate 8pk are not as good as the Tropical coloured ones?

    • Panasonic branded Eneloops (Australian market) are not as good as Sanyo branded Eneloops. Latest batches are all Panasonic branded.

      • Lol, any articles you can refer to which suggests that Panasonic ones aren't as good as Sanyo ones?

        • +3

          Sure. Thanks to Stevesie76.

        • @daerka: Ah ok…. might skip it and wait till next yr when i go to Japan to stock up on more Eneloop Pros.

      • Oh wow, I just noticed the brand change.

  • Sorry guys, new to this product. With these rechargeable batteries, how much is the charger?

    • I have one of these their not cheap but work great with eneloops - Maha Powerex MH-C800S Eight AA/AAA Smart Charger

  • +1

    Any sale on AA's?

  • When you add them to cart, still shows as $49.98 despite clicking on the $14.98 price…
    Grrr…
Fixed now, must have been a delay on update prices

  • Zombie Apocalypse just round the corner need more eneloops:0 …now any specials on baked beans?

  • Sorry guys. Are they currently the best Eneloop batteries?

    Thanks!

    • +1

Apparently not these Panasonic ones. Try to find the Sanyo branded.

  • Can't add to cart?

  • Will pick these up but I really need a charger.
