What is the difference between the Office 2013 suites and Office 365 plans?

Office suites have traditionally included applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook for use on a single PC. All Office 365 products, such as Office 365 Home, are paid for on a subscription basis, annually. Active subscribers will receive version upgrades as a benefit of their subscription. Entitlements vary by product.

    • I knew someone was going to post that hah

  • I mostly use outlook these days but seeing as that is $140 on its own this is quite tempting

  • Thanks - I bought this.

But how screwed up is DSE's website. When I went through paypal, it showed $90-$20=$70, which AFAIK is what I'm going to pay. Then you come out of paypal and they add $4.95 shipping (since they stupidly don't offer click & collect), then I notice when the transactoin is complete the $90 becomes $99.

Muppets. Wish I'd taken screen shots, then I would have raised a paypal dispute…maybe I still will.

  • It says "Coupon code "RELAX20" is not valid."
    Already expired?

    • Same here.

So this is only for 1 year subscription? You can't use it after that?

I think so. Really need to be more clear about this.

    • I'm guessing it's the cloud service that requires a subscription. Anyone like to confirm?

    • it is a yearly subscription.

    • So this is only for 1 year subscription? You can't use it after that?

What happens if my subscription expires?

You purchase subscriptions to Office 365 for a specific period of time. When a subscription expires, it enters a brief grace period when you, the Office 365 admin, receive email messages and alerts warning that the subscription will soon end.

During this grace period, you can do the following:

      • Renew the expired subscription by contacting support
      • Remove users from the expired subscription: You’ll need to save any data you need before removing these
users; see Cancel my subscription for more information
      • Reassign users to a new subscription

Users will still have licenses to use the services during the grace period.

The grace period is 30 days I believe.

When a subscription is removed, all data associated with your subscription, including email and documents, is permanently deleted.

You can read more about 365's licensing terms here.

Disabled State. A subscription can be disabled in several ways. An expired subscription will automatically be disabled after the grace period ends. Partners can also disable an active subscription prior to expiration if the customer is out of compliance with the terms of the contract (for example, non-payment for services). When the subscription is in the disabled state:

      • Customer end users have no access to subscription services.
      • The customer service administrator is limited to backing up customer data.
      • The partner can continue to bill the customer for the subscription during this period.
      • Subscriptions are typically allowed to remain in a disabled state up to 90 days, during which time the subscription can be re-activated without the loss of customer data.
      • Provider is not billed by Microsoft

TL;DR: Hold onto your Office 2007, 2010 and 2013 licenses like your balls.
