Half Price Korean Fried Chicken $15/$16 @ Poong Nab Dong (Eastwood NSW) (Wednesdays Only)

322

As the title says, half priced Korean fried chicken. They're normally around $30+ at most Korean restaurants, but here on Wednesday, 15 dollars for a whole fried chicken, and additional dollar if you want it coated with the Korean style sweet chilli or sweet soy sauce.

The place is called Poong Nab Dong, and its address is 205 Rowe St Eastwood NSW 2122

The waiter at the restaurant said it's on every Wednesday, but wasn't sure when it'd end.

This is my first post, so be critical if must, but don't be too cruel haha.

Looks like the Chinese side of Eastwood (if you know Eastwood you know what I mean) which is strange for a Korean joint??

In Rowe Street, opposite the school….

    • Opposite the school? Then there's also a Red Rooster of Eastwood there!

Let us know if it's good KFC!

  • go to Jean's chilli chicken
115 Rowe St Eastwood, near train station
I promise you won't be disappointed, best Korean chicken I've had, and I've been to Korea multi times

    • How much is Jean's chicken though??

EDIT: According to Urbanspoon Jean's price is $34…

      I'll give the $16 version a hit…

A couple friends actually got food poisoning there.. Me and another mate was eating with them that same night and nothing happen to us.. It is strange. We still eat their chicken snitzel every now and then tho, no problem with that but chicken does taste a bit off. Owner is always nice and friendly, and always say something funny, he must be high on chilli or something.

  • taste of shanghai is where the lines at in eastwood most nights…

    • oh well, not big news anymore. same at swanston st melb or perhaps other big cities in aust that have Chinatown in it

    Mmmm, KFC.

    • There was a KFC in Eastwood around 13 years ago.

      • +2

There still is - KFC = Korean Fried Chicken.

        • Haha yeah. I wonder why it's so expensive for 1 whole chicken. (Never tried it because of the price)

        • exotic taste always bring more bucks in foreign land (but not at where it comes from)

        • @brongz:

It's just KFC hot & spicy, covered in sweet chili sauce. Well pretty much, maybe bit of garlic in the sauce too. Wife made it once before. Will try again once hot & spicy is back.

  • What time do they close?

  • Eastwood is the best place in the world.

Eastwood was the only place i knew ever had a McDonalds gone out of business and closed down (not relocation). Healthy competition, good for customers.

I think you will find foul play was involved there….

Also too many tightasses in Eastwood at the time

    • haha, that's news for me. who own the mcd there?

    • Also Maccas in Brighton (V) closed down.

Just back from Poong Nab Dong

    Had a 1/2 and 1/2 Original + Garlic Teryaki

CHicken was fresh, I prefer Original. Solo diner and couldnt eat it all so paid another 50c ($16.50 all up) for a takeaway container….

Now I know why so many Korean men like Filipina women…

    • +7

      explain the last sentence please

      • Possibly Filipinas cooking, and doing a dang good job? :/

Brongz if you travel Asia you will find a lot of Korean men in go-go bars, karaoke bars etc.

They have a preference for a certain look of girl and pay top dollar…

Australians and Americans have a bad reputation for misbehaviour abroad. From what I have seen in PI, Korean men are far worse…

Funny too that the same guy in Australia wouldn't say boo, but in PI he thinks he is the king…

      • if your bring your own container you could have saved 50c

I made an order for take away before I headed to Eastwood.
When I got there after 40 min, they said no more chicken.

    What a waste of time!

In Seoul, a bunch of Korean ajeosshi invited for Korean fried chicken and mekju and it was like the best fried chicken I've ever tasted outside my home country's traditional fried chicken (my mom's made).

Can somebody told me the brand name? The logo is funny chicken (nerdy yellow rooster with spectacle and red jowl)………

From my experience, no overseas Korean fried chicken can beat the above mentioned chicken. Not even the Singpr' or NewYor'bonchon korean fried chicken.

    UPDATE
After a bit of internet search I think it was KyoChon chicken http://www.kyochon.com/main.asp Make sure to enjoy this tasty chicken when you travel there

After a bit of internet search I think it was KyoChon chicken

I think that is actually dog meat.

      • Dog meat is officially banned in Seoul though.

    • +1 for KyoChon chicken. There's a store in Brisbane (Sunnybank Hills). Soy and double-fried. I love the pickled radish cubes that come with it, too. The chicken is pretty close to the in-Korea version, but somehow different.

      • One in Sunnybank hills is not same as in-Korea one. Just same name but not related to kyochon in Korea. Also their chicken is horrible from my experience, so many bone rather then meat.

    • Logo of funny chicken is quite offended.

    • I was in Korea. I love KyoChon chicken, but many "no name" chicken restaurants in Korea are still good too as my experience. I really miss free delivery chicken at 11pm or 12am :(

  • dig korean friend chicken with crappy korean beer

  • I have to say i prefer KFC much more than Korean Fried Chicken.

    • +2

Soggy now so its turned me off it

    • KFC doesn't come with a side of Kimchi though…

    • +1

Does Korean Fried Chicken wake you up at 2am with stomach cramps so severe you are sure an Alien is going to burst out of your abdomen like the classic Sigourney Weaver movie? That's what KFC does to me.

  • +2

Has anyone tried North Korean fried chicken ?

    • +2

      No fried chicken for you!!!

    • +2

      It's Gulag rat.

  • So any confirmation this will be on next Wednesday 26th ? I'll be there if its still on :)

    • +1

There has been 1/2 price KFC at this store for the past 2 months so I would say there is a high likelihood that it will be on again next Wed.

I did not really enjoy this place…

      Is it the restaurant ?
      The suburb of Eastwood ?
      Don't like Koreans ?
Seen a cheaper deal elsewhere ?
      Why neg the deal ?

      • +2

I think this is a shot in the KFC (korean fried chicken) turf wars going on, posted by a rival gang/store

    • WTF - are you going to give us an explanation of why???

This week I am going to try sitting outside downstairs…

Last week I sat upstairs, but downstairs looked good (except for the dunnies being right there too…)

  • Tried this out last Wednesday, it was okay. Should have eaten immediately, was a bit soggy by the time I got to it. Prefer the way Mad Fo Chicks does their chicken, though.
