Getflix Smart DNS - 49% off Yearly Subscription (+15% off with FB Like) - $21.24/ $17.64

1390
GET40OFF

I received this email from Getflix. I am a member but I only participated in the trial (no active subscription). They are offering 49% off the yearly subscription and a further 15% on top of that if you FB like from the subscription page.

To claim this offer, simply login to your Getflix account and go to the "Subscription" section here: https://www.getflix.com.au/manage/subscription

Click on the "Promo Code" tab and enter the code GET40OFF to claim your discount.

Once the code has been applied the normal calculation will give you a 40% discount, however, liking us on Facebook through your dashboard will give you an additional 15% off over your new price.

You can now subscribe for 12 months at 49% off using either PayPal or your credit card!

AFAIK this is one of the top Smart DNS providers with servers in AU. For those that don't know, it's a simple way to trick geo IP locked websites into thinking you're from the country they intend you to be in.

Channels supported: https://www.getflix.com.au/channels/overview

Setup: https://www.getflix.com.au/setup/overview

Prices without discount: https://www.getflix.com.au/pricing

I don't know if this works for new memberships. Worth trying.

edit: If you are a new member, the total yearly after the FB like seems to be about $24 compared to the $18. This is because users who signed up before the price hike get an additional discount. Getflix prices went up a few months ago and if you signed up during that time they promised to grandfather those rates.

edit2: Similar deal from a few months ago: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/144333

      • Cancelled paypal subscription (doesn't change expiry date after last payment), and then applied code and re-subscribed :-) Future payments are then discounted.

It seems with credit card, they re-charge immediately (stacking)

        • +1

Thanks I cancelled the paypal payment and then re subscribed instantly receiving the 40% discount off my already discounted rate :)

        • @stemcell: Please share… What did you end up with per annum?

Just signed up with Getflix (trial) and Netflix to check out the speed if it is usable …

The signup was easy. I had to use a "private browsing" window to be able to sign up (despite being connected to the getflix DNS servers already) I couldn't use my Australian Paypal as only US paypal accepted) - but signup with an Australian Credit Card (28 Degrees) was fine … I needed to add a 0 in front of my postcode.

Tried to start a movie … so far it is just buffering for the last 5min … mhhh … lets see if I get it working.

Update: Working fine … just set the quality to HD in the settings and streams fine for me :-) Lets wait for peak hour.

    • Watched a movie in HD at peak time last night … not one time buffering. Pretty impressed as I was Internet surfing at the same time. I have not the best ADSL 2 connection at around 8Mbps (at peak). It buffered once when I was skyping with video at the same time. Pretty happy and lots of content to watch on Netflix.

I also like Zattoo.com … not on demand … butyou can record lots of Central European TV stations and watch them live (SD for free with some ads). I use it for foreign language kids shows …

  • Just signed up as well.
Didn't really know much about Netflix service, but now I'm up and watching online! Was thinking of signing up to Foxtel last week!

Thank god for NBN in my area, hopefully HD quality is decent.

Currently setting it up on my TV

    Thanks OP

  • Just signed up as well $24/year which is far better than unotelly! Thanks OP!

  • not sure if i should sign up for Netflix or Hulu?

    What's everyone's opinion?

    • +2

Try both, they have free month trials.

    • Netflix is great and well worth the monthly fee. Amazon Prime is also very good. I found Hulu ok but as they still have annoying adds with the subscription I was turned off them.

  • Does this have VPN access?

SmartDNS OK for Netflix but watchAFL only works using a VPN

I am currently using overplay at approx $10 per month

    • +1

      This isnt a VPN.

      • Yet..
But they sent and email about something "big" coming soon.

I'm half expecting it to be a VPN service to get customers who are spooked by the Metadata laws.

        • I have Getflix and another VPN service also. The VPN is for all other devices when an alternative country is needed. Great for tablets and phones.

  • So we have to change our dns to the one they provide, is that how it works? That means all data is routed to the US and my gaming ping will be messed up!

    • Nope. If your worried just set the DNS on you smart TV or whatever you use to watch netflix etc, leave everything else alone.

    • FYI, it's only the DNS… this is not a proxy/VPN.

      • It's a DNS service that re-routes selected traffic through a proxy. You can't mask an IP address with DNS alone.

    • My ping on a Good ADSL2+ line is 18ms to Testra.

Even works on existing accounts, been a member from day 1 so $14 a year! cant complain. Thanks.

  • That's a really good deal! I recently signed up for a year already though, but could have gotten it for about $14 otherwise as the discount is added to your base price (pending on when you signed up, you would have different prices). But yeah, great service and great price.

    • +1

You can stack another year if you want.

I dont get it. If this is not a VPN why would you pay to use a DNS when you can just drop the domain names in your hosts file ?

    • +1

On a Windows PC… but using this service if you set their DNS server in your router, every device in your home will automagically appear to be in USA but only for the services you choose.. eg NetFlix, Hulu, Amazon etc.

I signed up this morning (Ive never used GetFlix or NetFlix) - am on trial versions of both - payment method is a virtual US credit card provided by EntroPay.com - one simple change in my WiFi router (which is my home DHCP server) and all good.

Fiance's response to using the PS4 to stream new TV from USA - "Netflix is f*%ken awesome". She is watching the first season of Grays Anatomy from 10 years ago - she has never seen it - started watching from S2.

      • Is there any other way to pay Netflix?

        • +1

Some Australian credit cards work. Especially AMEX.

Or you can get a prepaid Visa from Australia Post ($7 fee to get card)
          http://auspost.com.au/money-insurance/load-and-go-reloadableā€¦

But I found it simpler and easier to use EntroPay - took 5 mins to set up - have preloaded $25 credit (enough for 3 months of NetFlix) using my regular credit card.

Be sure to sign up with NetFlix using a US state post code that doesnt charge sales tax - like Oregon.

To get NetFlix on my PS4 I just signed out, created a new profile and PSN account using USA as the country, downloaded the NetFlix app, then signed out and back into my normal Australian PSN account.

        • If you have an Apple TV, you can sign up via that using a US iTunes account.
You may be able to add an overseas credit card to the US iTunes account, but I just buy US iTunes credit online & redeem the codes on the account.

It's a DNS service that sends selected traffic through their proxies to make it appear as if you are located in another country. The DNS service is secondary really and only necessary to automatically re-route your requests. Unlike a VPN, video streams are not re-routed so video quality is not affected.

      • yeah right…so it is really a "proxy" service. That makes more sense then. I am surprised the video streams do not require a proxy as well. Why would the content provider only geopip block part the service and not the whole thing ?

        • The authentication is usually done on the content provider's own domain/servers while the video is served from a CDN, usually Akamai. The content from Akamai doesn't go through the proxy. You can write Hola extensions that do the same thing for free but services like this are simpler for most.

  • Anyway to use the DNS with gaming servers? We are currently using a VPN so we have access to geo blocked sites and can switch server regions for certain online games - anyway we can get the DNS to make games connect to o/s servers instead of the local ones?

  • If you have a USA based VPN service you do not need this.

    • a USA VPN would prevent you from accessing Australian services like ABC iview, not to mention other non US services like BBC iplayer.

  • has anyone usedthis with aljazeera sport? they have amazing football package and I used to use hola but it has stopped working

  • For some reason I can barely stream over 480p with Getflix, but with Unblock US and smart DNS proxy I can stream at 720 and sometimes 1080p. Anyone else experience this?

I'm keen for this deal but not much point if the quality suffers.

    • Getflix cannot slow the streaming down as it never goes through getflix, all they do is authenticate the intial check for the region everything else say from netflix comes to you direct.

We stream full 1080p (set within Netflix settings) with 0 problems and were only on 20meg adsl.

  • How do you get the HuluPlus apk? Can you get it from Play store?
    **edit
    found it
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1822341

    • Better use a VPN to connect to Google Play so you're getting the genuine article and the most up to date.
Netflix apk is available through Amazon app store (without VPN) if you have a US Account.

      • is there a list of free proxies that I could use for this purpose?

    • +1

This is from the getflix wiki, use this site:

      http://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/

      Its com.hulu.plus

  • Will this work on a WD TV LIVE HUB 1TB?

    • Yes, I use netflix on my WDTV Live box

      • is it the Hub version tho with the hard drive built in?

        • Yes, I have the Hub, you can't get Netflix or Hulu on the Hub, and there was nothing else on it I considered worth looking at.

        • I just have the little WDTV Live that streams off the network or USB.
I assumed they would use the same/similar firmware.
Does it have the Netflix app if you go to "Services"?

        • @Aussie89:
All the WD STVs use different firmware, the Hubs stopped the change region workaround to have Netflix show a couple of years ago.

  • +1

    so far so happy.
In case anyone else is wondering you can get Chromecast to work by blocking it's built in DNS servers.
    https://getflix.zendesk.com/hc/en-gb/articles/202281524-Blocā€¦

    • Damn, I have one of the unsupported routers (Optus Cisco DPQ 3925-X)… Thanks Optus.. :(
      Anyone know of any workarounds?

      • The most thorough workaround is to put you Optus modem/router into bridge mode and use another router.
Else just set the DNS to getflix on every device. However you can't set the DNS on the Chromecast.

        • Thanks, probably not worth it as its only Chromecast that doesn't work.
The Optus router still allows me to change the DNS address, so netflix works on all devices on my network.
The Chromecast however is smarter and is hardcoded to only use Google's DNS server stopping Netflix from working.
The workaround above involves creating a custom Static IP route (not supported on Optus routers) which will stop the chromecast from being able to perform google DNS lookups, therefore falling back to using the DNS server set in your router ie. Getflix DNS server.

        • @Aussie89:
Yeah its a pain when ISP's supply hardware thats been limited in features.
You might be able to flash a generic/unlocked ROM onto your device to provide the missing options?

        • Alternatively some routers have an option "force devices to use router's DNS". I assume this should do exactly the same thing as the static routes.

  • hola unblocker doesnt work any more for Hulu from 2 days ago. anyone else with this problem?any other free programs to watch hulu?

  • I notice NetFlix does not have the latest (currently airing) seasons of stuff - like the new Doctor Who etc.

Is there a different US online streaming service I should be looking at, to get the very latest episodes? Or are they only available on Cable networks etc ?

Looking for something to replace eztv/tpb etc

    • +1

Netflix has never being about current TV seasons except for series it produces itself.
Hulu is for current shows, although you do have to put up with ads.

      • Thanks for that. Will try out Hulu.

Are the ads (frequency etc) any worse than free to air TV here in Oz?
I hate watching movies on FTA as they often cut parts out of the movies to fit in more ads.

        • No idea, I haven't used Hulu in ages.

        • @snuke:

Think it's like 4 ads 1 minute each in a 30 min episode?

        • @maybeamacy:

Hmm that doesnt sound too bad. Better than 3-4 minute ads every 7 minutes.

I just installed HuluPlus app on my PS4, successfully activated my Hulu trial (using a US credit card for after the trial expires, and US post code), and was able to browse through TV/movies.

However when I tried to play the latest GOTHAM episode, it came up saying "International - Hulu is not available outside the US" - even though GetFlix is active and NetFlix is working.

        • +1

This sometimes happens with Hulu, they switch things up all the time and eventually Getflix sorts it again.

        • @db1: Yep working fine last night after rebooting the PS4, and today was fine.

  • +1

If anyone's wondering this promocode still seems to be working. Or maybe it's because I started my trial when it was still valid. However at the end of my trial, (2014-12-08), I used the code "GET40OFF" successfully.

    • Just signed up with a fresh account. Still worked :) Thanks!

  • Yes, I got it today. It's recurring annually at $17 too.

    • Were you with an existing or a new account when you got the $17?

      • I trialled it about 6 months ago and considered this offer when it was posted (put the price in the cart), so maybe it's just because it never got cleared from my account.

Got a Roku 3 now from Amazon so thought I'd try using it for that.
