Getflix Smart DNS - 49% off Yearly Subscription (+15% off with FB Like) - $21.24/ $17.64

1390
GET40OFF

I received this email from Getflix. I am a member but I only participated in the trial (no active subscription). They are offering 49% off the yearly subscription and a further 15% on top of that if you FB like from the subscription page.

To claim this offer, simply login to your Getflix account and go to the "Subscription" section here: https://www.getflix.com.au/manage/subscription

Click on the "Promo Code" tab and enter the code GET40OFF to claim your discount.

Once the code has been applied the normal calculation will give you a 40% discount, however, liking us on Facebook through your dashboard will give you an additional 15% off over your new price.

You can now subscribe for 12 months at 49% off using either PayPal or your credit card!

AFAIK this is one of the top Smart DNS providers with servers in AU. For those that don't know, it's a simple way to trick geo IP locked websites into thinking you're from the country they intend you to be in.

Channels supported: https://www.getflix.com.au/channels/overview

Setup: https://www.getflix.com.au/setup/overview

Prices without discount: https://www.getflix.com.au/pricing

I don't know if this works for new memberships. Worth trying.

edit: If you are a new member, the total yearly after the FB like seems to be about $24 compared to the $18. This is because users who signed up before the price hike get an additional discount. Getflix prices went up a few months ago and if you signed up during that time they promised to grandfather those rates.

edit2: Similar deal from a few months ago: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/144333

I've used them for the past 6 months & they are great

  • I'm not associated to them.

    • +8

      sure your not

      • +1

For around $2 per month….honestly…I'd be better off selling $8 telstra simcards from Harvey Norman

  • Is this the same service as unblock.us? if so, so much cheaper

    • +2

      Yes, offers similar service.

      • +2

IMO a better service than Unlbock, i swapped over to them some time ago.

  • +1

I have been using them for about a year and love it.
Just set and forget. Set the DNS in your router, then you can use Netflix and Hulu anywhere in your network without any issues. (Except Netflix with Chromecast, haven't got that to work yet…)

    • My Netflix —>> Chromecast works no probs. Never had any issues since I brought CC earlier this year. Casting via any device works for me.

    • +4

Chromecast is set to Google's DNS built in. The link below will show a workaround.
Getflix is great, never had an issue and setup is well explained.

Just be aware that if they wanted to (I get no dodgy vibes from them at all and do it this way myself, because roku) they would have the ability to change where you go if you type in paypal.com or bankwest.com.au or whatever they like. Hopefully your browser would be smart enough to see something is wrong or you are checking for security certificate before logging in.

But anyway getflix works great, I gave foxtel the boot.

      • +3

They wouldn't have a certificate matching something like Paypal.com. so if they modified it, they'd have two options.

        1. Break the chain of trust (browsers wouldn't continue, they'd lose a lot of business)

Or 2. Proxy the trip to Paypal through their servers (pointless as they can't see anything)

  • +1

WOW, talk about being lucky, ive been holding off signing up for this until my cable gets sorted out, but at 40% off im signing up right now, thanks OP!

  • Cheers.. and thanks OP.. have been a customer for the lsat 12+ months.. cancelled my month sub and signed up to the 12 month one for $17.64

    • Same

      $17.64/year = $1.47/month :)

  • +14

I imagine this offer was prompted by the Netflix AU announcement.

    • +3

Still can't imagine that netflix au will have the same breadth of content as the US or UK.. then again, i didn't honestly think that netflix would be in australia til hell froze over..

      • +5

The risk for Getflix is that Netflix do something serious about blocking access to the US service once their AU one is available.

        • +2

Try find some forum posts of UK netflix users before it was introduced locally.. and see if they've been denied access to the US site..

        • +3

@Vladdo: Nah they haven't in fact they turn on and off the dns service to get different content. Netflix would most certainly no they are doing this and obviously don't care.

        • @Vladdo: In Canada they have limited content compared to US and they still allow you to connect via VPN to US. My friend does that!

Anyone know a cheap place for Netflix/Hulu subscription?

    • Hulu codes on ebay cheap, not Netflix any more, they stopped selling gift codes.

      • Do they work the 1 year ones on ebay?

        • I bought one in May from some guy in Poland. It was $29.95US and its still working.

However I wonder if hulu gives more adverts if you have a 12 months membership. I am sure I went from 2 ads per break to 3.

Can anyone on the monthly subscription tell me if they usually get 2 or 3 ads? Thanks

    • Netflix and Hulu are already cheap.

  • +2

I think I read Netflix is coming to OZ next year (March / May )?

  • +6

They're trying to get everyone to sign up for a year before NetFlix opens in Australia. I was on Getflix but moved to DNS4me which is about to go out of the free beta and start charging.

    • They already have i got the email few days ago.

      • Email I got said:

Regarding subscription costs for our services moving forward, to say thank you to all our wonderful Beta account users, you will get a discounted base price of A$2.49 per month if you subscribe within the 30 Day trial period. New accounts will be priced at A$2.99 per month. We will also give a 15% lifetime discount for Facebook likes and up to 20% extra for long term subscriptions.

I see AUD $23.90 with DNS4me, Vladdo paid $17.64 with Getflix above.

        • same here mate aud $23.90
still not bad price but $17.64 is so much cheaper lol

        • +1

          @holden93:

An alternative - Smart DNS Proxy, US$24.90 (~AU$29) for 2 years
http://sharewareonsale.com/s/smart-dns-proxy-sale - offer available for 2 more days
          (source https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/170224)

          Have not used them myself.

There are low ratings for it on the Shareware On Sale website, but I'm not sure if that's because of issues with the service or the fact people struggled to understand it's a service and not software (despite being stated on the page).

  • +2

    What the:
Thanks for liking our Facebook page, your discount has been applied.
    12 months - AUD $24.19 (40% discount)

    • same.

      • same here too only goes down to $24.19

    • 12 months - AUD $17.64 (40% discount)
      what im getting.

      • Are you a new signup?
I'm wondering if people that are on the free trial period don't get the stacked discounts.

        • yes new sign up

        • nope been with them for a while now.
but haven't used for last 6 months so let it expire.

        • +1

So that's two existing customers, Vladdo and Holden, that have had the full stacked discount and 2 confirmed new signups that haven't.

        • Thanks OP, great deal!

I also got $17.64, been a member with the FB discount for a while

    • Are you a new customer or existing one? I think if you signed up a while ago you got lower prices as they fixed the cost (as they were about to increase the price). I don't have FB so I just guesstimated the extra 15%. Will update OP if new customers are getting less.

    • +1

I was a customer before they had a price hike, therefore got a small additional discount.

      • Yep, this seems to explain why some newer users are getting about $24 yearly after the discount. It's still a good price.

    • Same here. So if you are a new signup, there is no point liking them on Facebook, as the other 40% promo code is the maximum discount ?

      • I believe it's $28.44 for new signups without the FB discount.

    • Just signed up then and I couldn't stack the 15% ontop of the 40%. They did thank me for liking their facebook page though…

  • It's great that it lets you cycle through each netflix region for the alternate channels they offer. However does this thing work for any country to unblock? Or is it just for netflix and other US stations specifically. As good as this is I'd probably go for something that lets me access every region of the world. ie accessing greek stations that are locked to everyone overseas. Thats if I understand how getflix works.

    • +1

Getflix does some tricky with DNS calls. As in, it masks your location to the service you're trying to connect to. Unless it's on the channel list, DNS calls are the same as those made by your ISP. It's not a VPN like service where you can select your geographical location from a list.

Unless it's on this list, it'll be unavailable.. https://www.getflix.com.au/channels/overview

      • Thanks for that. Guess I'll stick with my original plan on getting a VPN once my useless NBN is installed sometime this century.

        • Keep in mind that using a VPN can be (and often is) EXTREMELY slow for streaming video. Getflix is much faster for this.

  • Wondering is it ok with dynamic IP Internet user?

  • +1

I am existing yearly subscriber. How can I use this discounted rate to extend it? I tried but it said I can't before 90 days of expiry of current subscription.

    • Don't select paypal and see what happens.

  • Haven't used these guys in a while I found it quite slow compared to unblock US, but for that price worth a second shot!

    • +1

Slow, how so, they have had zero effect on my speeds.

  • Does anyone know if a subscription will stack?
I have 193 days left on my current 12 month subscription from the last deal when they introduced annual payments. If I subscribe again for a year with this deal, am I somehow signing myself up for two consecutive annual subs, or will it simply add another 365 days to my current 193 days?

    • Perhaps try it and let me know! ;)

I've got about the same time left on my subs so keen to know the answer too.

EDIT: sorted! Back over 550 days! Was $17.60 for me too.

    • +1

I've had well over 365 days on my subscription, so I think they stack ie. Purchasing an additional 365 days. I signed up for the annual sub 6 months ago but then added a second account. I was asked if I wanted the group discount as a refund or additional months, I took additional months.

Good deal (old plan + FB like + annual sub + group disc + promo code = $13.18!) but I'd think I'd be crazy to take it up… I've got 327 days left!

      • +3

Results = Status Active Credit Card (559 days remaining)
        So yes it stacks.
        Easy choice for another $17.60.

        • +1

Had a quick look at this. Am paying via PayPal. Says I have to cancel PayPal first so can't stack?

      • Tell me about the group discount? I only have $14.04/year

Edit: Oh, found it! Requires you to own 2 or more accounts for 25% discount.
That would reduce my cost to $10.53!

  • Just so you know, Netflix had a press release only yesterday that they're planning on releasing in Australia in March 2015.

Granted they will likely have a much smaller selection due to Foxtel still having exclusivity rights. But it means that USA netflix might block our credit cards.

    • lol… why would they block foreign subscribers, were paying customers, they know and couldn't care less, it's all revenue to them.

      • Business reasons. They want to show higher subscriber numbers in the Australian accounts. Probably make more money off the Aussie ones too.

    • Get a prepaid one from the post office, problem solved. http://auspost.com.au/money-insurance/load-and-go-reloadable…

  • I liked them on facebook (using same email address for both accounts) and when i click the Facebook claim discount button it gives an error saying it looks like you have not liked or Facebook page, pleas like our page and try again.
I have tried in chrome and IE. In Getflix it says use like button below but there isn't one. I manually like within Facebook but it still gives the error.
    Any ideas?

    • Raise a ticket. In my deal, someone posted that they liked them in an unrelated FB account. They contacted Getflix and the discount was applied.

    • Nvm, logged out of everything, shutdown IE, restarted and it worked this time. Thanks for the answer anyway.

  • extended my subscription for $17.64 (12 months). too cheap!

  • Been using them for a year or more now to access Netflix - never had an issue with them and this is an excellent price!

    • How do you pay for Netflix? I'm assuming an Aussie Visa card won't work because they ask for a post code…

      • +2

Aussie card works fine.. and all Australians live in 90210

  • Thanks OP. My 6 month subscription was going to run out in 15 days so this helps to reduce the costs just a little more, even though I'd be more than happy to pay full price since it works great and have had no issues using it so far. Having an API to call and automate with is great also.

  • Interesting… I was about to pay the 24 when i decided to search getflix on my old email. Turns out I had an account and the price changed to 17.64 for the year

  • +1

Is this service pretty much the same as UnblockUs? Can anyone compare them? UnblockUs has been very good to me, it's extremely user-friendly, but this is much cheaper, so I'll definitely be signing up if it's a comparable service

    • +2

I came from unblockus and haven't looked back.

Unblockus worked perfectly & so does this.

There isn't really any difference apart from the price, after the initial setup the only time I interact with getflix is if my ip changes.

      • Thanks so, so much for your reply, Daveaus! Switching over now :)

  • Have been using this service for 4 months now and very happy with it. Have extended for another 365days.

    Thanks OP.

  • OK OK.. I'll finally get Hulu Plus. Any trouble getting HP to work on an Australian WDTVLSMP?

  • +2

don't think i need it but still bought it :-(

  • Does this also work for other streaming services that require a VPN?

  • Same here only getting 40%! The 49% is way better.

Raised a ticket, see how it goes.

  • been with them for about 12 months and they are really good but 40% off now paying $14.04 for 12 months …woohoo thanks OP

  • This vs. Hola? On a PC are they as good as each other?? Just wondering if its worth paying for something I am getting for free…

  • +1

It will be interesting to see if Netflix Australia will effect services like these.

All the other Netflix countries allow you to 'travel' with your account, which is why services like this work. What's a bet that pressure is pushed on Netflix to either charge a much more exorbant rate by Australian distributors, or prevent the travel ability. I do know Netflix are well aware that a huge portion of their users are Australians geo dodging.

At any rate, I'm looking forward to Netflix coming here and sticking a rod up all the local distributors who are used to price gouging out services.

  • +1

Thing is i dont just use this for Netflix .. BBC Iplayer and others ..but soon next year i think.. HBO goes online service signups as well so this to me is much much more than just Netflix

  • How dose it service go with torrent?

    • No interference.
Unless it's on their list of redirects, the connection goes through as normal.

  • So good and cheap! Thanks OP

  • Willing to give them a try. Coming from privateinternet access for the last year.

  • Can they do other than US?

  • +3

    Subscription Term
    * 1 month - AUD $1.95
    * 3 months - AUD $5.56 (5% discount)
    * 6 months - AUD $10.53 (10% discount)
    * 12 months - AUD $14.04 (40% discount)

I was already on $1.95/month, so was surprised/happy to see 40% off worked with my account!
    Winning?

    • Did you have to cancel your account to apply the code?
