Insurance is one thing I don't skimp on any more. I always check who the underwriters are as the cheapest insurance is often not worth the pain when something happens.

    • can't agreed more. i won't repeat the story. Car is still with repairer after 3months.

    • I'm normally not fussed about who the underwriter is cause majority of the time its between 2-3 companies. What I look at is the PDS especially with your cheaper insurances, mainly at the exclusions, because car insurance majority of the time is pretty much we cover for everything except our exclusions.

You might have been better off not getting insurance at all. These three are renowned for not paying when a claim is made. Its been mentioned on OzBargain before that Bingle in particular is the worst, they have taken six months to make repairs and in one instance even made a claimant pay the $500 excess even though the accident was the fault of another insured party!!! Lol

    • Actually the $500 excess not being refunded even if it's not your fault seems to be common in most insurers, it happened to our friends who are with RACV too. It's generally when they can't recoup anything off the other party.

I'd say probably all of the cheap insurers. That's why knucklehead above wont use them anymore and fair enough. To each their own.

Have been with Coles (westfarmers) for 2 years and had 1 accident not my fault. Coles handled the matter with other party insurer and all was taken care of.
Only problem it took almost 2 weeks for them to authorise the repairer. Good thing the car was drivable.
Also everytime you call you speak to someone different…no allocated claim officer. Other than that all good and cheaper than others.

  • Can you pay the policy with a wish card?

      incestous sounding?

  • I've used Budget Direct for some years, for cars, house, contents. Very competitive prices on all, I have shopped around. Just one claim to date, serious damage to house by cyclonic hail storm in November 2013 was handled quickly, professionally and the burden of chasing around and making arrangements with a host of trades was taken off our backs completely by the insurer. This is the part of insurance you don't appreciate UNTIL you need to make a claim. Couldn't recommend more highly .. :-> .. !!

Be careful though with budget direct, I've read numerous complaints about them refusing to renew car insurance if you make 2 at fault claims too close together ie within 2 years. I have even heard it happening to people who weren't at fault or 2 similar claims in 5 years. Being refused insurance is not something you want on your record.

      • if you know you're likely to have a renewal refused can you simply cancel the contract and sign up with another company prior to renewal?

I wont get cheap insurance anymore after having a bad exprience with Budget Direct and Im also boycotting RACV after I had 3 tyres damaged and they refused to tow me. Hopefully I never need to make a claim but Budget Direct effectively cost me thousands :(

When this deal was last posted it prompted me to ring my insurer to see if they wanted to reduce my costs and keep me as a customer. They ended up halving my annual payment due to loyalty, good driving histroy etc. - there are a bunch of hidden bonuses these stingy companies dont Tell u about. Worth A shot for many of you i reckon, i saved over $300 per year. Was kicking myself i didnt call sooner.

  • These are the only insurer I can find that do third party with windscreen cover.

  • Your promotional code is invalid, you can progress without a promotional code OR contact us on 1300 482 451 for assistance.

  • Wow, got a quote for over $600 for comprehensive. I only paid $317 for Coles Comprehensive in March last year.

    • what car? i'm getting quotes of $500+ for just third party in some cases.

  • This is still working. Just used it today

  • Joined in Feb.

However when receiving the welcoming pack there was NO $100 gift card.
Apparently it was for the month of Jan only?

Called WW and had to wait 20mins+. (Saturday). No team leads available to access so will expect another call back on a weekday to see if I'm eligible.

    • Any update?
