OzBargain 2014 Members' Annual Awards

2014 is finishing up in another week and a bit. Continuing our tradition from last year, let me announce the OzBargain Members' Awards for 2014. The stats used here were generated from this morning.

Deal Poster of the Year

TRENT86 — this award is for the OzBargain who has posted the most deals in 2014. TRENT86 posted 727 deals with vote average of 22.91 this year, where 221 of them got onto the front page. Trent has been on fire since September, posting average more than 4 deals a day. Most popular deal this year? Telstra Prepaid Starter Kits for $8 from Harvey Norman.

Competition Poster of the Year

JSQUARED — competition-posting on OzBargain has gone through a re-design in the middle of this year, and this award is for the member with significant contribution to posting competitions on OzBargain. JSQUARED has posted 178 competitions so far this year, two have been featured the most popular (Tap King and Optus luck draws) with over 100 reported winners between the two.

Rookie of the Year

DAOtmc — this award is for the best contributor to this website who only joined us this year. This is especially hard to pick this year, but DAOtmc stood out. Joined in May this year, he has posted 44 deals with vote average 36.61. His most popular post this year — 2 for 1 Grill'd Burger.

Commentator of the Year

jv — it's for the OzBargain who had posted the most in comments this year, and it's the you-know-who again. While contributed merely 4 deals, he has participated in 3,451 threads with 7,271 comments — 42% more than last year (which he also won the commentator of 2013). Classic replies although occasionally informative. Others got voted to obvilion.

Helpful Member of the Year

scrimshaw — awarded for OzBargainers not only post comments, but helpful comments. Our not-so-scientific measurement of "helpfulness" is via the votes people received on their comments. It's also scrimshaw's second year winning this award, posting 2,669 comments this year, 17.5% of them getting +5 votes and 3.5% getting +15 votes.

Power User of the Year

tonester — this award is for the power users who have contributed the most in editing the deals and fixing up issues. They played a significant role in keeping the deals updated on OzBargain and helped the moderators to focus on moderation. If you still aren't sure what they do, check out some of tonester's recent edits — edit #1, edit #2, edit #3.

OzBargainer of the Year

I guess most would have already guessed… tightarse!

Joined OzBargain in January 2010. Posted 563 deals between 2010 and 2013, and then in 2014 — 579 deal posted with +99.83 vote average. From the interaction we have with TA, he does not just post lots of deals, but high quality deals as he is someone who cares a lot about his "craft". Some of his most popular deals — PayPal $5 credit, $0.01 Multi-Function Saber Card, compiled Shop-A-Docket vouchers #1 #2 and #3 etc. I believe many of us have benefited from tightarse's posts tremendously this year.

Prizes

I'll be contacting all the winners later today via PM. Top prize "OzBargainer of the Year" will get $1,000 PayPal credit or gift cards, and all other prizes will get $250 reward.

Our monthly awards for December will be announced in early January 2015. Until then, wish everyone a merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

And I cannot think of more worthy winners especially TA - thanks a bunch and enjoy the recognition, you guys deserve it.

  • Well done to all contributors and commentators. Merry Xmas & Happy New Year.

  • Great Work Guys - congrats to all posters and mods - its a great community.

@Scotty - any chance of recording the milestone/landmark "+" voters?
i.e. the users who have voted the most 50th or 100th (or 150th, 200th etc) positive votes of various threads?

I don't think it would be possible otherwise I'm confident that I would have won that title :)

That would encourage people the vote just to reach a landmark and reduce the meaning of a + vote.

thanks for my unexpected honour - i thought TRENT86 and j1mmyj1mmy would be more deserving but guess it's only one award per ozbargainer?

congrats also to scrimshaw (another power user) and the other winners :)

and yes waterlogged turnip is missed :(

    Congratulations tightarse

  • given that monthly awardees receive silver badges, shouldn't gold ones be bestowed on the annual winners?

there is currently no badge for annual winners :(
