My Nexus 5 is severley lacking space thanks to all these Amazon app deals.

    • +4

put them in your cloud, and download them when you want.

      • +4

Make sure you 'buy' the apps in a browser instead of the Amazon app as it will start downloading immediately after purchasing.

        • Is it possible to 'buy' the apps without installing the Amazon App?

        • @mathew42:

          no and yes

        • @mathew42: Yes, you can 'buy' them trough your browser, but there is no way to download and install them withouth the amazon app.

        • @mathew42: I login to the amazon website and purchase it but it has registered my android device beforehand.

        • You can actually stop it from downloading by pressing the "x" button that appears at the end of the progress bar.

      • Whenever you press on a free app on your phone it auto downloads and there is no way I've found to cancel the download. Even if you hit cancel to the install box that comes up Amazon Appstore keeps the app on your phone in a cache folder somewhere forever.

        • +1

May be try updating the app to the latest version. I can see the button to cancel the download.

  • I love the amount of free apps from this store, but I have found it utterly useless when it comes to apps and games for kids. I created a restricted profile in Android to limit the apps that could be accessed, and the DRM prevents most items from being launched unless you allow the App store to be accessed from the restricted profile.

    • The following needs to be tested from your restricted profile, but I believe this should prevent your kids from making purchases.

      1. Add the Amazon Appstore app to the restricted profile.
      2. In the Appstore app, press Menu > Settings.
      3. In the In-App Purchasing submenu, disable the option.
      4. In the Parental Controls submenu, enable Parental Controls, and make sure your Amazon password is a complex one.

You'll need to test buying IAPs in a few apps and trying to buy apps yourself; I take no responsibility for bugs or security holes in the Amazon Appstore app or the apps themselves if they let purchases through. :)

Edit: You should enable parental controls/password prompt for purchases in the Google Play app, and in fact any other app store you've signed up for.

  • Where's the list? I don't understand…

    • "Starting December 24th and running until December 26th" so no list yet

  • I rarely find apps for me in these sales but I look forward to see what's on offer this time :D

Please post only when at least a product price

You had a product price . FREE aka $0

      • The question is what is the product that will be free - we need some specifics.

        • +2

The question is what is the product that will be free

          Android apps is the product.

Its not like they are going to offer iOS or Windows 8 apps

The deal clearly stated Android Apps worth up to $220

I gave a specified start and end time.

          All the details are available.

The deal ticked all the boxes for posting guidlines

        • @andy19363:

Yep agree. A lot of the moderation is biased in my opinion. Some deal posters get away with it and other dont.

        • @easternculture:

          Android apps is the product.

IMO Android apps is a category rather than a product, and apps differ in quality. It's like saying "Selected e-books free on Amazon".

I was not online again until this morning, hence the late reply. Moderators would be happy to discuss any moderation issues via TWAM - you are more likely to get a faster response and you can also ask for a second opinion if you disagree with a moderator's decision.

There was nothing stopping you from posting the deal once the details were available.

Moderators discussed the situation with upcoming sales a few months ago and we added the new guideline because we wanted deals to be posted once the specifics were known, rather then when an announcement of a sale is made. It is difficult to judge how good a deal is until the products and prices are known, and the votes can be meaningless - for example the situation where a deal is posted about an upcoming sale, people get excited and vote it up, but then the sale turns out to be a dud with not much on offer and negs appear - that's not good for the poster either.

        • @andy19363: All those deals were not upcoming sales - they were posted when the deals were available and verifiable.

        • @moocher:

IMO Android apps is a category rather than a product,

You see, thats your opinion rather than the communities opinion.

Ozbargain is a community and we cater as a community. We dont cater for one persons opinion or preference.

If the community agree's its a Product, then it should be so.

        • @moocher:

they were posted when the deals were available and verifiable.

and the deal i posted was verifiable and available at a specified date which i mentioned in the post

        • @moocher:

Hi moocher. These new guidelines you speak of… do they include things like posting a deal for $1 Doritos one week out from the sale, with no evidence at time of post? And I'm sure a few of the eBay Sunday deals were posted well in advance of any T&Cs being available. Just want to make sure these guidelines apply across the board. Thanks.

          @tightarse:

@ TA. They probably run OzB as a Buisness & Amazon Affiliate links Generate income hence they are not deleting the recent dupe of my deal on the front page.

Its what suits them rather than what suits the community.

        • @tightarse:

do they include things like posting a deal for $1 Doritos one week out from the sale, with no evidence at time of post?

Guidelines "Deal posts that reference an upcoming sale without information about any specific offer will be unpublished. Please post only when at least a product price or a specific discount is known, and include that in the description."

The Dorito's deal had very clear information as to what the offer was and when it was on.

I think you are talking about a completely different subject and I believe we have spoken about this before, but to clear up any doubt:

Should a deal be posted in advance, that later turns out to be untrue, the deal is removed and the poster would face a potential ban if it was found that knowingly posted a deal that didn't exist. If it was a genuine mistake/miscommunication/deal cancelled then of course just the deal is removed.

Should the community place some doubt about the validity of the deal, we may place a warning in the deal that is unconfirmed. At the same time we aren't a court house and if someone has sourced a great deal without physical evidence we still want them to share it, at the end of the day like I said, in the 1% of cases where an unconfirmed deal doesn't turn out to be true, it's removed so there is no benefit.

Let me know if you feel that is unclear or unfair.

        • @hamza23:

As always, very clear & concise hamza. Thank you very much :)

        • @easternculture:

Generate income hence they are not deleting the recent dupe of my deal on the front page.

I can ensure you "income" or similar doesn't come into moderation, actually it's not even discussed so I couldn't tell you much about it, but I would question what the affiliate income on FREE Amazon apps would be anyway?

Statements like this can be easily made, but I can promise you that has nothing to do with it :)

    • An update - I have opened an discussion with other moderators to ask for their opinion on this moderation decision and I will update this post once I hear from them.

However, regardless of the outcome, moderators are unable to move a forum post back to a deal (system limitation). As the link for this post was for the Amazon US store, I'd invite easternculture to post a deal for the Amazon US store as it won't be considered as a dupe for Amazon AU deal anyway.

LOL .. nice one . Title of deal was

Largest Ever FREE Android App Bundle Worth up to $220 @ Amazon US/AU/UK- Starts 24/12 12am PST

        I mentioned AU.

No worries if you guys want to cover up your mistake. Sad to see that no one wants to take responsibility for the stuff up.

        All good.

        • Yes you did. Sorry, I was referring to the link you posted which was referring to the US site. You can post the deal for the US site if you wish.

No worries if you guys want to cover it up. All good.

Moderators are also accountable for their decisions and we may disagree amongst ourselves. I mentioned that I will update this post once I have heard from all of them - how is that covering anything up?

        • @moocher:

The outcome to the review in the pm

My deal stated AU but even though, you claim that the my deal was for US store only. Even though i mentioned US/AU/UK in title to cover all amazon stores

        • @easternculture: I see what you mean about the PM. Yes I worded that report response and it was incorrect to state that your post was for the US store as I was only looking at the original link instead of your title. I apologise for the oversight.

However while the moderators are in discussion (it may take a while) you may still post the the deal to the Amazon US store if you wish. It's up to you.

        • @moocher:

          No thanks, not interested

I would invite you to remove it as a dupe as you always do with Deals that are posted in the forums.

        • @easternculture:

I would invite you to remove it as a dupe as you always do with Deals that are posted in the forums.

I just wanted to clear this up as there appears to be some misconceptions floating around. This statement isn't really true, could you show me some deals that were removed as duplicate of forum topics? I looked through your most recent deals but couldn't find any, apart from one that was a targeted offer (and linked to the forum topic that already existed on this targeted offer).

If a legitimate deal is posted it's not defined as a duplicate of a forum topic, underlying word is legitimate deal. If it's not a deal and/or it's better suited to the forums, then a deal post may be linked as a duplicate to that forum post.

However we have had instances where someone has posted a forum topic then someone else posted that same thing as a deal and it has been left as a deal as long as it's legitimate, this is quite common actually.

I can even show you an example of my own:

Forum topic 18/6/14 02:16 CashRewards Now Offering 2% Cash Back on eBay Purchases

Deal post 21/6/14 18:36 2% Cashback on eBay Purchases from CashRewards

Reported and replied with 'no action taken'

Moderators are human but we try are up-most to be consistent at all times, this is first and foremost and if there are any issues identified we make rule changes based on community feedback.

Let me know if you feel any of that is unclear.

          Thanks!

        • +1

Just get over it mate, you're acting like a child.
You claim to care about the OzBargain community, but the deal is out there now so why aren't you happy?
Seems to me that all you care about is getting credit…

        • @bargainsftw:

Nope. My issue was with Moocher removing the deal when clearly enough details were in the post to fulfill deal requirmemnts

      • Sorry for the delay. I have now heard from all the moderators and here is the outcome of our discussion.

It turns out that the opinions were divided amongst the moderators - which shows that this is a grey area. Some thought that there was enough info to constitute deal, some didn't - each person had to exercise some level of judgement to come to their own conclusion. However, for the sake of transparency - going by head count, this post would have remained as a deal if it had been opened to all moderators for their input.

Moderators respond to reports from users, and except for very obvious cases, most of the time we have to make a judgement call. However, in grey areas like these, in hindsight it would have been better to have opened the discussion to other moderators before resolving the report, since, in this case, based on head count, the post would have stayed as a deal. So my apologies to easternculture that he had to repost the deal later.

As the deal has now been reposted, we will close this thread so that discussion about the offer is posted there.

  • Is it mandatory to download the apps via Mobile? Or we can do it in laptops as well?

    • You should be able to purchase them via the Amazon web site via your computer. That way you're not downloading them all to your phone / tablet.
All you then need to do is refresh your Amazon app and all the games / apps you've purchased will show up, and you can selectively download and install those.

      Edit: Missed a word.
