  • genuine question - how is this different to using dropbox?

Looks like it's local syncing, not cloud sync. So this could be useful to keep program settings the same between two machines, or even full program installations (as long as you're connected via WiFi / Ethernet).

Here's a quote from the site: "Connect your devices wirelessly or across your wired network without missing a beat. No matter how you want to connect, Laplink Sync ships with technology that makes it easy and fast."

  • I may be retarded, but I don't get this.
Is it trying to do what Dropbox, Box, Google Drive etc…… do but with an ugly interface? I just downloaded the instructions, scanned through it and was completely put off.
Is anyone else concerned when they see a website that looks likes it 15 years old?

This has been around long before the cloud options you mention.
A lot of businesses are not allowed to use the cloud storage.(ours can't for privacy / security)

Ah the joys of photocopiers, and 'get smart' cameras, and now phone cameras with private/hidden record app. Who needs a cloud if you are there.

Looks like an interesting program. I can see some value in this. Review here for anyone confused about what this actually is: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2362961,00.asp.

    • "there's no way to transfer and sync files from Mac to Mac"

      Well that's great.

    I'm not seeing much that http://www.freefilesync.org can't do…

  • this is for people like me who are looking for better alternates to the dated "SyncToy" from microsoft.

  • Thanks Op

Used to use this when it was via a dedicated cable. Didn't even know it was sill around.

Still have the cable somewhere :)

    • iirc it is just a lpt cable you could've used for the printer.

    • copper for sale?

      • LOL. In fact this prompted me to clean out the garage. All gone now :)

All 3 licences appear to be for "Laplink Sync for Windows/Mac DM Download (ML)". Does that mean we have to buy additional Android/ iOS licences before we can use it to sync our mobile devices? If so, this is only useful for someone with multiple laptops/PCs.

    • From what I can tell, yes. But I figure if we wait long enough they'll give away too…
