        • yeah seen those but they are a little too expensive for "just for fun"

  • Does the charger also charge AAA's?

    • +1

Yes, it will charge AA and AAA.
Make sure you fully drain the batteries before charging and use a timer when charging.
I set my mobile phone alarm.

      • cheers

      • I've read previously about people's dislike of the 'dumb' charger, but what's the need for manual stop?
As per the Eneloop website (http://www.eneloop.eu/eneloop-products/chargers.html), there is a timer cut for charging control once fully charged.

        • +1

Timers time, they cant say when the battery is fully charged. They are preset according to a capacity, generally of the batteries they are supplied with. Say you have a 2850 capacity charger, and 2000 mAh batteries. If fully discharged, they will still get 850 mA more than they can hold, all burned off as heat and damaging the battery. Now imagine as with most people, the battery is not fuilly discharged, the situation is made worse, it might need 1000mAh, but will get 2850. Once the charger times that its put out the 2850 its programmed with, it then stops. A smart charger detects that the battery is not taking charge, and then slows itself or shuts down charging. ie: it will deliver 100mA, or 2000, or 2850. Not to mention if there is resistance, even the right capacity battery will not fully charge, as some charge is wasted in the resistance.

Even if you use the supplied 2850mAh cell, and its not fully discharged but you want to fully recharge it, it will get 2850mA even though it only needs 1425.

Smart chargers are just streets ahead of dumb chargers. And not all smart chargers are created equal either.

        • Thanks for your detailed reply.

So for those who manually time, this is a waste of 'time' anyway…

        • @102010: Unless you know what its doing and when, kind of. But the less time its being boiled for, the better. But you run the risk of not getting a full charge on the other end of the scale too, which only effects usefulness of the battery and the item its used in but still of relevance.

Just buy a smart charger. Forget its better for batteries, forget its a better charger. Its safer. Its less likely to set your house on fire while the overnight charger does its thing while you sleep. All batteries being overcharged are potential sources of fire and catastrophic failure, ie: internals of batteries all over your floors, walls, children, pets, and fire. Let alone the gases that are released when it vents even if not badly, gases that can cause injuries akin to emphysema.

Seriously, even at Dickies, without discount, its $20 difference.

      • Nugget Question..but it needs to be asked.

Why do you use a timer?

If you use a standard over night charger (ie like in the above) how long do you charge aa & aaa? and do you take into consideration the number of batteries loaded into the charger?

Ed; Just Read 102010 Reply. Now I need to check what type of charger I have

  • Postage for me is $9.95? Where is it $5.95?

  • Seems like everyone is always excited about these eneloop deals, I don't know what so special about them and at this point I'm too afraid to ask.

    • They're a bit like Ferrari, the best performers out there. But imagine if Ferrari started building them cheaper out of the Chery factory in China. Now they're released over here with a 100k RRP. It's obviously open slather on who can import these, but one group, let's say Hyundai, decides to buy quite a few of them and continually discount them to 50k. Imagine how many people would be jumping up and down saying I bought a Ferrari!
And likewise, you'd get pages and pages here on OzB with comments like "How do they compare to the Italian ones?", "Can I run it on regular Unleaded?" and from the noobs "After years of hearing how good they are, I finally broke my Chery!" (pun intended)
But if you're a purist, what you really want to do is find an older Ferrari (eneloop) at a good price, or even consider swapping to a Lamborghini (fujitsu) if you can score them a bit cheaper!

Disclaimer: The statement 'Ferrari, the best performers out there' may not reflect the opinions of the commenter and is to be used as an example of idea only.

  • Damnit! I need some eneloops finally after never buying any, and no there on sale for like one night and I miss it T_T

  • Bought 5 packs of AA and 2 packs of AAA. With delivery and the $20 off coupon it came in at under a hundred bucks.

Toss the oem charger and get the night core d4. Lovely charger.

    • Batteries arrived today. Very happy with the delivery time.

Very unhappy with my stupidity. I now have 5 packs of Aaa and only 2 packs of aa.

What the frack do I do with this many aaa's.

      • I didn't double check - wanted a set of choc AAs and tropical AAs, ended up with choc AAAs… :/

      • Bring them to your local DSE with your receipt and ask if you can swap over. The are the same prices and if you are lucky the staff is nice might just let you.

        • Dunno. When I checked with this deal, Click & Collect wasn't an option. Anyway, just left it and hopefully the Tropical AAs will be enough for now.

Where do you use your eneloops?

Last time i bought 1 pack of 8 AA + 4 AA comes with the charger.

But i still don't know why i bought and needed them???

    • +1

At the apocalypse, they are your ticket to ride.

  • just went to my local DSE store to get the click and collect order from this deal and was given a packet of batteries with water damage and what appears to be battery leakage,

was told it was the last packet and wasn't able to do a inter-branch transfer

but was happy to tell me I could drive across town and get it myself.

    beware and inspect your purchase,

    • Ring customer service, and tell them that, I doubt they will be OK with it.

      • gave me a refund as a gift card,

        • That's not cool. They should have offered you an actual refund.

        • @tomsco: This reminds me the big scene I had to create in store get my $10 refund :)

Bought an Emtec 8GB USB and it only showed 1Gig capacity when tested at home. So took my laptop with me to the store got a replacement, tested it in store and found it to be faulty as well. But the store guy argued that it's something wrong with my laptop. When asked to test it himself he refused saying they don't have any big files to test and offered a refund as store credit.

When asked to see the manager he said all the best with that with a sarcastic smile. I had to make a big scene in the store to get a cash refund from him.

        • +1

@dealsfinder: Some stores really need to train their staff in basic consumer law.

        • +2

          @tomsco:
Their staff? Some of the management in these retails shops really want to learn consumer rights themselves first!

        • @Snoop: haha next time you should take whatever you want from their store and pay by you "home"credit so they can shop at your home when you have a garage sale.

        • Did you get to keep the batteries that were OK?

        • no… Besides the entire package had been damaged. So it would of been impossible to tell which battery was affected.

        • @Archi: Yeah as people said, you are ENTITLED by LAW to a refund, not store credit or some such. Im astounded, DS might be turning into Silly Sollys ($1 store)
