Free - $6 Google Play Credit through Chromecast

4730

Thought I'd check the chromecast offers page today to see if the had any free movies. No movies but hey, what do you know, $6 free credit.

The description is as follows:
"Enjoy a date night on us. Get $6 Google Play Movie rental"

I was going to put this as a freebie but figured that it does have at least one string attached, that being the requirement to own a chromecast.

To get the credit, go to https://cast.google.com/chromecast/offers/ in your browser (or check the offers page in the chromecast app), then click redeem :D

I don't know if the credit can only be used for movies, or if it can be used for apps or books as well. Hopefully someone can enlighten us. Edit: thanks JSQUARED and others, it looks like it can be used for anything.

I also have no idea when this might expire. Edit: expiry added https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/6008836?hl=en-A…

Enjoy your free credit!

If you have the American Chromecast you'll only get that one, like me.
If you have an Australian one you should get the $6 credit.

  • +2

I don't know if the credit can only be used for movies, or if it can be used for apps or books as well. Hopefully someone can enlighten us.

Just purchased an app with the credit, thanks!

    • Thanks, I'll update the post.

  • got it thanks

  • Can anyone confirm whether this works for Chromecast's purchased from the US?

    • +1

Mine was purchased from the US and I got a 90 day music subscription. I don't think it matter where it came from but more where it's located.

    • +3

My AU one gave all four deals, but my US one only gave the 90 day music offer.

    • Yep, US one only gave me 90 days of free tunes :(

  • Thanks OP

Free credit added to account balance - use throughout play store

  • I got $3 instead of $6? Anyone else?

  • worked like a charm for me, cheers

  • Great find, jut got the & dollars, who got added to the mney i earned trough the google opinions rewards app! I also got all the other 4 offers everyone is talking about!

  • You can use the money on any google item. Last time I redeemed $5 and bought an app with it, so I assume it's the same this time.

  • Champion! $6 here!

Google Play credit is universal. The credit can be used any way you like, even in-app purchases.

  • Thanks op

  • Amazing thank you!

  • Awesome!

  • Thanks for the heads up, first free credit offer I've gotten from the Chromecast :)

Like someone else said, will go nicely with my Google Opinions credit!

  • +1

jeez.. I have to find my Chromecast now. hahaha.

  • Awesome. Worked fine for me. Thanks, OP!

ETA: I used it for an in-app purchase, so definitely not limited to movie rentals.

  • +2

Thanks I have 2 CC so total $12.

Not only for Movie rental as the offer said, Right.

    • Was about to post this as well. I got $12 too and have another CC still in box so might get another $6 there. Works off the serial # of your chromecast. Unfortunately Presto isn't compatible with my Galaxy Note4 apparently so haven't used that offer yet.

Expires 23 March according to JB Hi Fi: "Purchase and set up a Chromcast [SIC] before March 23rd 2015 and receive a Bonus $6 towards a Valentines Day movie rental on Google Play. To redeem, visit chromecast.com/offers. "

    • +2

      Yep, T&C's here.

      • I've added that link as well. Cheers

    • Thanks, updated.

  • Am I the only one who gets a page-cannot-be-loaded page after clicking the offer?

    • Are you on the same network as your chromecast?

      • Yeah, it finds the chromecast, then when I select the $6 offer, the page doesn't load.

        • It's a redirect to the play store with the coupon code in the URL. Maybe you can copy the code and redeem it manually?

  • Ty

  • I bought mine in the UK and the offers were:

Get your 3 month Entertainment Pass from NOW TV - Signup result: "It is not possible to sign up to NOW TV from outside of the UK."
Get 90 days of unlimited music FREE from Google Play - When I tried to redeem this one it said only available to new users.

Oh well serves me right for buying mine in the UK.

    • Use Getflix or other similar setups and Now TV will work.

  • worked on work computer but wants chromecast at home wtf?

    • It needs the chromecast to connect to validate the offer - it isn't on your work's wi-fi…

  • I had four offers - $6 credit, 90 Days GPM, Presto and X-Men Movie.

Got the X-Men Movie and the credit. 90 Days GPM only valid for new users.

  • Thanks so much, had all 4 but already used google play music before

  • awww hells yeah!! That's $6 I can use towards Golden Scratch tickets in The Simpsons Tapped Out! I really needed this since the Google Opinion Rewards stopped offering me surveys mid-December. Really appreciated cause I wouldn't even bother using the credit on movies or music rental or purchases or whatever it was actually intended for.

Worked! Pretty glad I got the Chromecast, paid $7 for it (using some COTD referrals) and in return have received this $6 as well as the free movie, Google Play Music and Presto subscriptions. It's paying for itself! :P

  • Nice works on the one I got from the dick smith deal here

  • 3 Chromecasts so thats $18. Thanks OP I wouldn't have found this otherwise.

  • Thanks!

  • Thats Great thnxxs

  • Just redeemed the $6 credit. Anyone knows how to use the credit? If I buy an app, does the credit automatically apply?

    • Yes. You'll see a purchase confirmation screen with the app price and the play balance.

      • Good to know, thanks

  • Want another Chromecast and I can't seem to use the credit to buy one.

    • +1

You can't buy devices with the credit.

      • Thought so, looks like I'll be getting one from Harvey Norman for $43.

  • got $6 credit thanks

  • Great. Now if only Google would have another 99c sale. Or Heroes of Might and Magic goes on sale from it's ridiculous price of $12.99

  • i already got a 90 days Play Music trial from December and it's still got a month left. Would the trial period stack if I redeem another trial from another Chromecast?

Edit: NVM. Got this message when I tried to redeem "This special offer is only valid for new Google Play Music subscribers"

  • +1

Thanks for this, thought it would only be to new users but have had my Chromecast since they launched in Oz.
Also got the last $6 promotion they had.
    cheers!

  • Had 2 chromecasts, got 2x $6 credit

  • Thanks OP

I recommend Cast2TV. Has heaps of live streams and might be useful to cast cricket streams during the world cup:

Please try it out and if it doesn't work refund it. I haven't personally used it but someone showed it to me once.

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ytweb&hl=e…

    • You recommend it, yet you haven't tried it? o_O

  • I select the 90 days trial it redirected me to play store but only show 30 days? Never apply before.

  • Accidently added it to my wifes account. opps

    • +1

That's OK - if you get divorced it's $3 each!

  • So my Chromecast has been collecting dust somewhere and I can't find it now for this deal. Frustrating…. Lol

  • Presto offer expires end of Feb - is that the same for GPM? They don't seem to say.

    • It says January 31, 2016 on the Terms page.

      • Thanks - better get in quick!

  • Seem like $6 also available to US chromecast Now.

  • Hmm, I've already redeemed my $6 credit from this previous post: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/173428 and I tried it again this time and got another $6 credit! I checked and I have $12 balance on my Google play account :-).

  • I only got the "90 days of unlimited music FREE from Google Play" offer. I already subscribe to Google Access All Areas through using my Telstra prep-paid credit. When I clicked the Redeem link I got message "This special offer is only valid for new Google Play Music subscribers" :/

  • And 2nd credit done and movie watched!
