TPG Revised Their ADSL2+ Plan Again ($50 for 50GB+50GB)

861

Now for $50, you get 50GB + 50GB. Also off-peak period extends a bit longer to 2am (from 2:30am) until 8am.

TPG has been changing the plans a few times in the last 6 months or so. It is highly unusual. I think TPG might be hit hard by new AAPT unlimited ADSL2+ plan since AAPT introduces unlimited plan from May and unlimited 8-8 plan from Sept. Frankly AAPT unlimted 8-8 plan is so far the best value ADSL2+ in the market. TPG must be so headache now…..

See my another post for more about AAPT unlimited plan:

  • I'll stick with Internode cause I want my Steam Content Servers, Games.on.net, gaming servers and the better customer service that actually works and is very lenient in terms of payment when some payment problem occurs. Nothing but bad stuff coming from my only friend on TPG. Well, yea, the only good thing I've heard is the bandwidth and price, that's it. Guess that's what TPG's good at.

    • If you calculate it TPG is actually better.

      • Yes, TPG obviously is better in terms of pricing and bandwidth. Others? No. It's the others that I'm prepared to pay for. Internode is a gamer's ISP. Almost everything gaming related is download free and guess what? I'm a gamer.

        • I have TPG at home and Internode at the office. Internode is good for gamers you're right. Downloading 100mb-200mb updates patches etc through internode games.on.net without it counting towards your download limit is handy. Same thing if you are into getting mods

But there is a lag sometimes ages between when those files are available through internode vs the game developer.

Similarly with if you're interested in game trailers etc….they usually lag behind for a while, when you want to watch the latest vids on the games you're interested in when they are released.

A perfect example where internode would be awesome if it delivered on it's pitch is Halflife 2 Cinematic mod currently v 10

          http://cinematicmod.com/cm_10.php

but internode's "free download" hasn't been updated since 27/12/2008.
          it's still stuck on V9..

          http://games.on.net/filelist.php?app=2123&menu=1

So even as a internode customer, if you wanted Half life 2 to look it's best (as any serious gamer would) internode lets you down when it counts the most.

and these are massive downloads. that mod is like 8gb.

          • @abchakraborty: If you want something to be mirrored on Internode's server, find a direct download link elsewhere and click on "suggest new file" then send it off. It's usually up within a day. Of course it has to be gaming related though.

            • @kaheiyeh: really? wow….i'll try that the next time i have a big download. if it turns up within a day by request, then I'd definately have to reconsider their offering. Mind you, their "counted" download limits are not as compelling as TPG.

  • Hi
I was just wondering by joining this plan would i still recieve the 500min of free VoIP calls per month?
I don't see it as part of the "ADSL2+ with free VoIP mins" category

    • No

      This plan is
      Super Fast Standard /100GB $49.99 100GB (50GB+50GB)

      VoIP is with another plan
      ADSL2+ 80GB with VoIP $49.99 80GB (40GB+40GB)

Think of it as that you exchange 10GB+10GB for additional dodgy 500min VoIP.
Why it is dodgy you asked?
Each call will eat away at least 10 minutes.
So effectively you get at most free 50 time'd local calls.
      Local calls shouldn't be timed.

  • I am Also with Exetel, and have been since I got the net (3yrs ago) I pay $35 a month for ADSL2+ (just upgraded with their new plan, excluding line rental) and get 25GB Peak (12pm - 12am) and 60GB Offpeak (12am - 12pm)… I have never had a problem with download speeds during Offpeak, just the other evening had a few things cued up to download and were all downloaded by the time I woke up in the morning which was about 8GB.. I don't live all that close to the exchange either…

I know that exetel has just changed some of their ADSL 1 plans offpeak download limit from 60GB to UNLIMITED… So for those that don't live in an area where they offer ADSL2 that might be an option….

So all in all Exetel is far cheaper - but don't sign up if you need technical support all the time.. You need to know what you're doing for this to be a great deal… I don't know what TPG's tech support is like, but I would say it would have to be at least better then exetel… Not that I need it, cause I know what I'm doing, lol…

Oh and by the way - my line rental is $20 a month with Telstra (went on that plan a few years ago before they dropped it, but still allowed current customers on the plan to stay at that price) I use VOIP for all my local/international calls. :)

    • If you use VOIP already why not drop your Telstra line rental and go "naked"? Even if you want a backup in case of emergencies you can get a mobile for less than $20/month and save more money.
