Optus Extends $90 Unlimited Broadband Offering to All Fixed Line Customers

1291

Last year, Optus offered HFC customers unlimited cable broadband for $90 a month. Now, the same deal has been extended to ADSL2+ and NBN Fibre network users. (That’s a monthly price reduction of $25 compared to Optus’ previous pricing.)

If you have excessive data needs, Optus’ revised unlimited broadband plans might be worth a look. From today, customers who sign up to a Broadband + Home Phone Bundle, Entertainment Bundle or Big Home Bundle plan on a 24-month contract will pay $90 a month instead of the previous $115. All three plans work out to a minimum total cost of $2160 over 24 months.

The deal includes unlimited data (downloads and uploads), unlimited calls to Australian mobile and landline numbers and free calls to a number of overseas destinations. You’ll also get the basic Fetch TV bundle which recently launched seven new channels, including BBC First, UKTV, The Food Network, Universal Channel and Nat Geo Wild.

The plans are available over Optus’ HFC, ADSL2+ and NBN Fibre networks. The offer ends on 6 April 2015. Offer ends 31 May 2015.

      • Thank you

  • Was currently on the $90 Phone & Broadband Bundle, and asked via online chat if I could change to the Big Home Bundle. Told that it was no problem except that I had to wait until my next billing cycle.

    • were you able to get a free speed pack?

      • This was for ADSL 2+ as no cable at my house.

  • So it is advertised as free unlimited international calls to 25 landlines and 7 mobile international. But when they send u the plan details on email it shows international charges crossed out under the included section.

Can anyone clarify this and confirm that international to those destinations are free?

  • Thanks just signed up, I negotiated 50% off the 1st month

    • Did you get speed pack as well?

      • no, i'm on ADSL2+

    no foxtel = no deal……

  • The Live Chat button disappeared :\

edit: never mind, it comes and goes.

    • Got a permanent link?

      • +1

If you stay a while on the page it'll somehow magically appears, no kidding. I tried to copy the URL but it didn't work.

  • Are the Speed Pack only available to areas where NBN has been rolled out?

  • simple switch to move from current existing 115 to 90, just had to resign 24months as of next cycle
everything stays the same, so relatively simple process to move. much better than previous encounters

  • Thanks op. Renewed my contract with additional calls and channels, and speed pack.

  • I wonder how much I could sell the Galaxy Tab S for, offset the cost of that Big Home bundle package.

its worth about $449 rrp brand new.

  • Can anyone from NSW Bankstown tell me if their cable is fast all the time? I am currently with Telstra.

  • Used the online chat, managed to get a new modem, but no of the reps would include a powerline adaptor for free.

  • How does optus bill? I signed up for the $90 cable deal with fetch, had it in for almost a month now - haven't seen any invoice. Is that normal?

    • Default is via logging in to my Optus. You can set up email billing.

After two months of no payment received they'll post you an overdue notice. There's no additional fees for this.

      • Thanks for the reply.

I have no my optus logon.

I guess I just wait for my letter in the post.

        • Call them up and set up email billing. Otherwise you'll only get s letter every two months.

    Just signed up on NBN
got the Entertainment Pack with a free "Supersonic" upgrade 100/40Mbit
Also was able to get my number made private to for free too.

can someone who has 100/40 NBN fibre with them now comment on their speeds?
I still have two weeks to break contract as I delayed the delivery of the modem.
My current ISP NBNSP offers fairly good speeds thought they tend to drop to 70ish mbit during peak times
that costs me $100 a month for unlimited off contract.

I am normally very against going on contract but for $90 a month for unlimited 100/40 fire NBN + unlimited local and national calls + private number + 30 Foxtel channels + a free PVR and modem it was hard to pass up.

To break contract it didn't seem like it was going to cost a lot anyway, seems on par with what a lot of contract free ISP's charge for setup costs.

Does anyone know if you can use your own modem? not over keen on the cheap netgear they offer, can anyone confirm the model they ship out?

    • OMG I'd nearly kill for 40Mbps upstream speeds! I wouldn't move house though :P. I wish I was on fibre!

They don't seem to indicate on their site they allow other fibre modems (http://www.optus.com.au/shop/support/answer?answerId=1419&qu…), but I expect the netgear you could put in bridge mode and use your own router. That is what I do on cable.

Thanks for the tip-off. Went through chat & got told a new modem would cost extra, so suggested I'd look elsewhere & was straight through to retention.
Been on cable + home phone for many years now, so have contracted back in on $90 with a new modem & speed pack thrown in. Includes the Entertainment pack, plus calls. Originally wasn't offered a new modem, but told her I'd have to look around & suddenly it was free :)
    https://smb.optus.com.au/opfiles/Shop/All/cis/Cis%20Documents/CIS_$90_Unlimited_Cable_Bundle.pdf

We specifically discussed that the calls weren't covered in the PDF, which she assured me was an error which they will be resolving in the doc, but that 25 countries + mobiles was absolutely included.
So it's basically the Home Phone + Entertainment packs bundled together.

I figured it's likely to be a while before DOCSIS 3.1 becomes available, so this was as good as I could get for now under the current NBN regime.

I should also say that if I'd had another optus post-paid account at the same billing address (not necessarily in my name) they'd have given me another 10% off, and assured me they would do in the future if we had such an account down the track.

I had a modem fail once and they tried charging me for it. I told them not interested, I'm not on contract, and you have a free modem for new customers, so why should I have to pay, so I'm cancelling my account and I'll re-sign. I got it free.

    • Wow, nicely done.
If that's the case, I'm going to call them up and try to get the same.

That will mean ditching my Telstra provided cable (500gig) and Telstra Foxtel.
      Will be a significant saving.

Slightly concerned re Optus network speed and stability as there are many differing comments on Whirlpool, etc.

Bear in mind though if you are wanting Foxtel still, especially the sports, and HD you aren't going to get that with Fetch unfortunately. Optus do onsell foxtell though but I'm not sure if that gives you the same as foxtel (eg the online services and apps and streaming I think you can get).

        • +1

tx will check it out. TBH, I have platinum now and realistically watch about 5% of the channels, everything I do actually watch is from Torrentland/usenet.

        • @gbh:

Yeah, for actual television content that would probably be easier (not to mention better quality). For sports, I seriously don't know what real options there are (I am interested myself for some motor sports and haven't found anything really)

        • @Mobe1969:

I'm a motorsport nut as well (F1 and MotoGP at least)…
They would be both covered on One via Fetch right? Most others Le mans, etc can be streamed. OK not super high quality but doable.

        • -1

          @gbh:

Yeah, One is great - and HD. I'm also interested in NASCAR (yes I know vote me down… :P) and am a little worried One HD won't be carrying it this year (the sprint shootout race is this weekend). I'm hoping that they are just like last year, and are behind on the shootout broadcast.

I also loved watching Formula D when One showed it!

          @gbh:

Do FTA channels come through cable? We've recently lost reception for Ch 10 and associated channels. I need it back before the F1 season.

        • +1

          @sween64:
yeah I get all the FTA's through Foxtel cable in Sydney. No need to switch between inputs etc.

  • Anyone received their Samsung Galaxy Tablet yet?

    • No, but I received the Fetch TV box today. If anyone went for the unlimited phone bundle but wanted Fetch TV, I'm selling it on eBay (alternatively PM me).

      • do you own the box outright? Or are they like foxtel, where you have to return them when you end your subscription?

From the optus site: "Important Notes
Set Top Box: Optus owns the Set Top Box, and you must return it following cancellation of the service.
Fees apply for late return or damage to the Set Top Box.
You may only use the recording functionality of the service for viewing programmes at your nominated home address at a more convenient time."

        • Thanks, removed the listing. The wording on the contract is a little unclear though, it only mentions cancellation but not end of contract. As cheap as it sounds, its probably to stop people from continuing to use Fetch TV after switching to a new plan or ISP.

Oh well, the free movies will come in handy when there's no new episodes of my favourite shows to watch. Too bad Fetch TV isn't unmetered via Optus mobile. Would've been great to be able to watch TV/movies anywhere for free.

      • received the fetch tv box but not the samsung tablet =/

        • out of interest, were you able to get the speed pack free?
I got to a fourth call centre operator before being told it would be included. The first three said it only came free with the entertainment or home phone bundles.

        • @legiong:
tried many times but no luck. will try again

  • How long does it take for the Fetch TV box to arrive? It's been 9 days and nothing.

  • Got a deal yesterday that included all of the above plus 6 months free starting from the second bill :)
Now cross my fingers and hope the NBN guy can install it exactly where I want it.

  • Hi

Can some one please comment how they got the speed pack included for free on a new NBN plan? I can't seem to get this online?

    Thanks
    Manu

  • Not a single person has budged about getting the NBN speed pack 100mb/second included for free. How did you guys do it aha

  • anyone had any luck receiving the samsung tab s 8.1 yet?

  • got my free powerline adapter today…not the D-link one, but one of these:
    http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTE4NlgxNjAw/z/xq4AAOSwv0tU3sqJ/$_75.JPG
actually looks more functional than the d-link.
but its only up to 200mbps where the dlink is up to 500mbps. (a lot less in real world)
should I call back for an exchange…hmmm

  • people that are on cable internet (big home bundle is the one I've signed up for), new customers are they getting speed packs or not? or is it only for NBN internet?

    Thank you.

    • +1

I am on the cable Internet $90 plan and I have received the 100mbps free speed pack and I believe most of the people on the cable Internet new and existing customers have received the same. Some people got it complimentary and some existing customers have to asked for it. Existing customers even got new free modem with their new 24 months contract.

    • Is this the one with the tablet?
If so, not many, if any, got the speed pack for free.
It's the superfast cable bundle, that most people got the speed pack free, as it is part of the bundle.

  • Has anyone got this?

    Broadband
    +Superfast
    Fetch
    + Entertainment pack
Unlimited call package (Local with OS)

    • +1

Yes, with unlimited calls to some international countries as well on the Ultimate Cable Bundle. Read my conment below.

  • +2

I signed up yesterday for the $90 Unlimited Cable Bundle via Chat. I've posted here because of your are on adsl2, you might want to switch to cable for the 100mbps speed pack which may be better, subject to your local adsl2 vs cabe congestion situation.

I've been out of contract for years but this deal seems worth re-contracting for. In Chat, to get the ball rolling, I wrote that iinet is
offering me a similar deal with modem and powerline adapter for free so could Optus do any better? The polite rep transferred my chat session to customer service and Belle there happily included the adapter for free and agreed that I could opt for the better netgear modem. This is to arrive within 5 business days. A new modem and 100mbps speed pack are included as STANDARD for this cable bundle. It's pretty good with mobile and international calls included.

From my optus chat session (Belle's response), "This $90 Ultimate Cable Bundle includes  UNLIMITED international calls to landlines in 25 selected countries and mobiles in 7 selected countries,  OPTUS TV with Fetch + Entertainment Package, UNLIMITED data and  UNLIMITED standard local, national, mobile and 13/1300 calls and free 100 mbps speed pack."

If you want to get on cable with the 100mbps download speed pack (e.g. you are uncontracted and can get cable at your address, I think the connection is free for new cable customers but please check that for your own circumstance) make sure you are getting calls to mobile and international included by getting the Ultimate Cable Bundle plan I will be getting. It doesn't cost any more and the 100mbps speed pack and new modem is included - no need to ask for it. I may not get up to 100mbps but hopefully I may get periods above the 30mbps limit that their lesser speed pack (not so speedy) has.

I could maybe have pushed for a free month but I think I've received a good deal and the Optus chat service reps were great so I'm happy. Oh, it comes with the free 6month Netflix subscription too that most new plans are getting now. They will send me a code in about two weeks that I am to use to activate the subscription within another two weeks. Hopefully the Fetch box has arrived by then. They credit everybody on a new plan with Fetch $20 for the current potential delay then another $20 if it takes more than a month to arrive after account activation.
