From their website, looks like they only operate within Telstra's 3G network.

    • Correct - well spotted. From the website: Untimedmobiles.com.au uses part of Telstra’s 3G mobile network.

There is no 4G access in this deal. OP, please correct.

Having said that: nice deal for those who only carry a phone for emergencies, or so other people can contact them. My dad is perfect for this plan.

      • There is another good reason to have a mobile phone- it's the main reason I have one- two factor authentication. This plan would work.

    • OP, add the 55 cents / call to title.

For those using it for incoming service only…

      • Optus MyPrePaid may be better value:

        • $1.00 buys unlimited calls & SMS / MMS''s for a Day.
        • 1800-calls (only) cost nill, ie, if you make NO calls & send NO SMS & use no data. (Need min $10 credit to prime the system, it can last 6 mon.)
      • Optus prepaid gives only 30 minutes of calls for $1.

        $1.50 for unlimited calls.

        • My bad… I hardy pay it, & forgot

  • Good for Grandparents

    Why ?

    • +1

Because data pack is expensive just good for Grandparents for calls only I think, right?

      • -4

        Only 55cents per call,

55 cents per call is not cheap…

        • +1

Untimed for granny, one call for a month and don't cut it off … lol

        • -5

          @superforever:

My grandmother had 7 kids, calls them all at least once a day.

That works out at about $115 per month minimum !!! $1400 per year !!!

All that money and you don't get any data ?

        • +3

@jv: Discovered this 'plan' a few days ago. For ANYBODY - grandparent or otherwise - who doesn't buy a data-pack, forgets to turn their data OFF and leave it off, data is charged at a ruinous 90c/MB!

        • +5

@jv: This deal would only cost your Grandmother $12/year if the kids rang her once a day.

        • +1

          @Tas:

there is an option on signup to turn data off.

        • @jv:
Grandmother can dial missed calls so her kids can call her back.

        • +1

@thydzik: Few, even non tech-savvy people would want to cut that option off completely for the future.
Given the PAYG data rate, 'Untimed Mobile' clearly know this, and also know that those who wouldn't be able to readily turn the data off in their phone menu, are also those who will haplessly get into some billing strife from background data alone - let alone fully appreciating the consequence of actually opening a stock weather app or browser, even infrequently.

        • @argonbay:
          But $5 with ALDI

        • @Tas: UntimedMobiles SIM plans offer a 'turn it off' data pack option so you can't accidentally use any data. http://www.untimedmobiles.com.au/data-packs.html

        • @superforever: you assume that no disconnects occur.

      • +1

Probably a good deal for GP's who have mobiles mainly for incoming calls and only make a few outgoing calls per month. $1 per month + $2.20 a month for phone calls (a call a week) seems to be economical.

        • The only good things is untimed to mobile.

        • GPs could call unlimited+untimed AU phones for $1 / day, with Optus MyPrePaid Daily., w/ unlimited messages.

    • -1

      Why ?

Because easier to make money out of them as they have NFI what mobile data is.

  • +1

great for highschooler.. he can prank me and i can ring back for $1 per month… perfect!

  • +5

isn't a $5 aldi payg sim better for incoming-only calls? it is probably better for occasional calls as well.

  • +1

can calls be received? or is it only outgoing?

  • +1

Thanks for the heads up on untimedmobiles.com.au Obviously not for everyone, but handy for those parents with children who need cheap plans for occasional use.

    • I wouldn't be giving this to kids for occasional use.

Dad: "only use this for emergencies"
      Kid: "Ok daddy"
      5 mins later rings dad
      Dad: "WHAT'S GOING ON??"
      Kid: "Daddy I can't sleep"
Dad: "Did I not say ONLY use this for emergencies?"

      Rewind… Groundhog day style…

  • Great value to keep the un-use mobile number.

    • +1

      ALDI starter is $5/year

      • What is the minimum topup in-store?
        Online it's $15.

        • Same. Port out and back yearly.

  • Will Telstra prepaid unlocked 3G phone work with Untimed Mobile sim card?

  • got one…aldi is prob better deal…..but its going to sit in the car phone for very occasional use so not too bad…thanks.

  • Awesome plan to park a mobile number. i.e if you are given a work SIM and cannot port your number you can use this to receive calls or texts on while using your work SIM for outgoing calls and data. Or just pay $1/month to keep it active.

  • Is data disabled by default? $900/GB postpaid.
You don't want Granny getting a surprise bill when the grandkids install a few free games.

    • Depends on her Will. ;)

$12 a year with no calls on this or $5 a year with Aldi… way too expensive ;-)

How about 2 years for under $4 including calls on full Telstra network?

I'm currently set up for next 2 years with 800 minutes of included calls to mobiles & landlines.

Too late to get deal now though :-(
But useful for those who bought the deal below.

Using 4 Telstra Starter Packs that include $30 credit each. Bought at Woolies before Christmas at $1 each ($30 grocery purchase, but bought some without any other purchase). Less 5% discount of course ;-) I recommended this scheme in that deal.

Why good for only 2 years - SIMs expire late next year.

Connect 1 SIM at a time for 6 months on Longlife prepaid plan, then change to Simplicity plan. To keep number, needs to be ported out then back to a free SIM every 6 months. See my Low Calls BUDGET SCHEME in Tips for Cheap Calls Telstra Starter Pack Wiki. (The wiki is always in need of updates & rewrites.)

Need more calls than included - add another $1 SIM as above, or connect SIM on Freedom plan for 28 days of plenty of calls on the cap plus free calls after hours & data for $1, & use the included untouched $30 credit to top up the other SIM with about 180 minutes of calls, or buy on Play, etc. Lots of options listed in the Wiki.

Worth keeping in mind when Telstra Starter Packs are next on special. It's always a good idea to stock up!

    • Where you could port out without fee.

      • This use of free SIMs to port out & back has been discussed in deals many times. Details are in the OzBargain Telstra Starter Pack Wiki if you read it.

Free SIM providers changes all the time. So no use listing something that will probably change when you need it in 6 months time.

Try searching OzBargain for "free SIM". The wiki above is updated infrequently with suitable free port deals.

7 months back I used Yatango free for 1 month, with 600 minutes of calls, 600 txt, 1GB data thrown in. So stayed on Yatango to use the free stuff & ported back to Telstra a month later. But that offer expired.

I've ported out & back many times for free. At least 1 small provider will send you a free SIM now. Lebara, Vaya and Lycamobile have offered to post free sims in the past, don't know current situation. I've always got a few free ones on hand. Otherwise you need to buy a $2 SIM. I ported from Telstra to a free SIM & back to Telstra on Christmas Eve in 3 hours!

    • Not really relevant anymore, the $1 sim is long gone. Maybe a $15 starter park may come up in the near future but there is nothing in sight as of now. At least I can't find any and I need some now.

      • It's there as a suggestion for using cheap Telstra Starter Packs in the future.

Even at a higher pack price it is good value. There is another scheme for higher call users in the Wiki link above. These have been tried & tested by OzBargainers.

That $1 deal was very popular, so some OzBargainers have these Telstra packs now. They can get $2/yr Telstra Service and calls.

So, always stock up when on special ;-)

I offered those $30 credit Telstra packs with short expiry a few weeks back within a Telstra deal, but there was almost no interest at $8 each - my purchase price from a HN deal.

But the negs show I'm wasting my time.

      • Maybe a $15 starter park may come up in the near future but there is nothing in sight as of now. At least I can't find any and I need some now.

There are Telstra Starter Packs in OzBargain classifieds for $10 tonight. Downside is short expiry (June in Sydney & March in Brisbane)

Even at that price, that gives 6 months access & 200 minutes of calls for $10. Plenty of time to find a another good deal.

Kind of a misleading title. Made me think for $1 a month I get unlimited untimed calls. But then u pay 55c per call…. So it's gonna cost u at least $1.55 a month if u want to make a phone call….

    • +1

I came here just to work out what the title meant.

  • Tried to figure out whether it would be worth using use this to transfer data by acting as a dialup modem, but even assuming a 4hr call limit, the calculations..they do not work out.

  • Calling 13 and 1300 numbers is exceptionally high.

Cost is billed in 1 second increments. 30 cents per minute plus a 35 cent flag fall.
