CDs? Anyone seriously still using them?

    • Why not ? like me — sony z7 headphone + sony PHA3 amplifier .. dont tell me you believe iphone/ipod could make them running properly.

    • haha was thinking the same thing. I miss them though to be honest

    • +3

think of it as a permanent lossless backup of your mp3s.
rip them on your computer and repeat when necessary.

      • It's also nice to have a hard copy on a shelf.

    • +3

If 50% off is cheaper than buying it online then why not?

    • +1

I find CDs are often cheaper than buying mp3s, providing you want the whole album.
      Better quality.
You can rip them to any format of your preference.
They look nicer on the shelf?

Isn't it a bit weird to offer 50% off CDs with a service that's designed to effectively replace CDs?

    • +2

JB thinks if someone sign up this service then he/she wont buy cds anymore :-) that's why offering such discount try to get last money from them lol

  • +4

CDs, not CD'S (or CD's), unless you are describing something that belongs to the CD. I'm not throwing stones as I make plenty of mistakes too. It's a good but somewhat strange bargain.

    50% off vinyl, too!

In my opinion, I think buying CDs at 50% off is pretty good.

If I wanted to buy Coldplay's 'A Rush of Blood to the Head' for my phone, I could buy it on itunes or from JB Hi-Fi.

Both cost $14.99. With the voucher for JB, the album becomes $7.50.

itunes can only supply the digital files, whereas a physical CD has an additional feature - it can be played where-ever a CD can be played on.

After ripping the CD on a PC, the content can be placed where-ever I'd like (be it the phone, ipod, etc.) - thus, giving me more choices as to how I want to play the content.

Of course, the above does not apply if people don't like the physical nature of CDs, have cheap credit from those Telstra sim deals or don't have a DVD drive on their PC - among other reasons.

    • And don't forget that the license to play the songs on the CD is for whoever holds the CD whereas with the digital copy purchased it is in your name and if you happen to shuffle of this mortal coil the ownership goes with you.

      • Correct. This is an oft overlooked advantage of CDs. I want to own the music

      • The other thing about digital copies is your license is only valid as long as the service you use exists.

  • Here are the T&Cs below (text bolded by me, not jv)

From 17 February 2015 JB Hi-Fi will provide each user signing up to a Free-Trial on or after that date with a unique one-off use code entitling that user to 50% off Eligible Goods purchased in one transaction at a JB Hi-Fi store in Australia (excluding online/website purchases).

Each code can be used once only and the maximum discount on the transaction is $50 (fifty dollars).

The discount will be calculated off the then-current ticket price for the Eligible Goods. Only one code can be used for any one purchase transaction. The voucher must be redeemed by the date shown on the voucher. Each code may only be used by the user participating in the Free-Trial and is non-transferrable. This offer will run for a limited time only and JB Hi-Fi may end the offer at any time without notice.

For the purposes of this Section, “Eligible Goods” means **recorded music compact discs and vinyl records ** (excluding pre-orders).

    • "the then-current ticket price"
      Weirdest condition ever…
What the hell else are they going to calculate the discount on?

      • It might mean that if there's a 10% off promotion for example the discount is off the reduced price, or it could mean the opposite depending on your understanding of "ticketed price".

        • Yes. JB often have CD sales, automatically reducing their price. It would be fabulous if they did this during this proportional period for an additional saving.

  • the voucher doesn't load on getairmail.com or 10minutemail.com FYI.

Great offer! Will definitely be buying the Triple J Top 100 Version 22 when it comes out February 28. The latest Like a Version is a fantastic buy too. Cheers Trent

Bargain… Picked up 6 vinyl records for $58. All except one were already reduced minimum 50%. Then another 50% off on top of that. Original marked prices totalled $208.

    • Out of interest, how many days did they give you until the voucher expired Johnno?

      • It just took $50.01 off the total. Total of my spend was $108

  • I used Jb HiFi Now for a good 11 months.

Worked great on PC but the mobile app for Android was quite unstable and would crash when offline caching songs.
I switched to Google Music and never looked back.

I would try both and see what you prefer. They both have a free month offer going on.

  • Been over an hour since I registered and I havent received an email. Anyone else having the same issue?

  • Pity it's not of use for the online store. Plenty of things i'd order there. Wondering if I could place an order instore and use the voucher, or do online and instore operate totally independent?

    • No you can't use the coupon to order online and pick-up instore as you pay when ordering online.

You can order it from in the store then use the voucher when you pick it up, I did that several times with the previous 20% off deal.

      • +1

sorry, that's what I meant. Browse online, Order instore.

  • Can you sign up to this via pc, or do I need to sign up via facebook or via mobile. (only options I can see)

  • Anyone who has already registered who can answer my earlier qn - how long do the CD/vinyl vouchers last? Week, month,…?

    • I signed up for my voucher about 2am this morning and it's expiry is the 1st of March, I've already used that one, now to use my other telstra pre-paid sims for more vouchers lol :)

      • +1

Thanks Blackrose. So approx a week.

  • Just out of interest, does anyone have the barcode 920…236?

    • mine was 920…754

  • I signed up with both of my email addresses and got 2 coupons, had to use them on different days though.

    • Did u use same mobile # both times?

  • Still available as of 1 March?

    • +1

For anyone still interested, signed up today, voucher sent via email expires 15 March.

      • Thanks for the update, looks like they've got a longer expiry now.

  • Used mine today… 2 In stock items and 1 item they needed to order in, so it can be used for items not in stock. They did have to manually over ride the system so I guess it will come down to luck of the draw if you get someone who will do it for items not in stock.
