Remind us again, jeenee woks off which network? Telstra/Optus or vodafone? 3G or 4G?

    • +4

It's off the Optus network and has 4G.

      • +5

No good for where I am. Telstra or nothing down here.

        • +6

Then you should look at Boost - full Telstra network, unlimited calls and sms, 2.5GB (but lately it's a deal for 3GB) data, billed in the Kb.

          $40 per month

        • @placard: +1 for Boost - I have been with them since 2012 initially Optus and now much better coverage with Telstra. Unbeatable in my opinion.

        • +1

          @cim85: Assume that's 3G?

        • +1

@placard: "billed in the Kb." I think you're mistaken. Unless they've changed it recently.

        • +1

          @Jake D:

"Included data is charged in per MB increments and will be rounded to the nearest MB at the end of each data session" from http://www.boost.com.au/terms.aspx

        • +1

          @toristo: yep.

        • @placard:
Oh, definitely will. Not negging/saying this deal is bad. Good for those who can use it. Boost is definitely the best for down here.

        • @Jake D:

It's well known if you look at forums like Whirlpool that they claim they charge in 1MB increments but in reality they don't…

        • @placard:

By the term full Telstra Coverage, u say

Does ALDI have Full Telstra covereage Aswell?
Cuz Im on ALDI, But I dont get Coverage in Some Remote Areas where Telstra Does..

Is this not the case fore Boost?

        • @wako:
Boost does have full Telstra "3G" coverage (called nextG). ALDI you can only get wholesale 3G coverage.

        • @placard: Got a link? I'd like to check it out.

        • @toristo: Yes mate, Boost is full Telstra NextG (3G) coverage and works exactly the same as a normal Telstra plan as I have 2 phones -one on standard Telstra prepaid plan and one on Boost.

        • +1

@Jake D: They're officially changing the billing to kb starting from the end of this month

        • @Glozza210:Cool, Thanks.

  • +2

    1 month contract term
    Standard, micro & nano SIMs
    Works on 3G & 4G handsets
    Optus coverage (view here)
Data counted in KB not MB

An upfront $20 set-up fee applies, which includes delivery. Subsequent SIM Pack connections under the same account will only incur a $10 set-up fee

    • +2

The code negates the setup fee until the end of this month I believe

  • -2

I don't really see the deal here.

    • +2

"Free Setup" (and it has an expiry, so it's not just spam).

    • +1

They extended the free sim set-up and delivery promotion until the end of March.
      Save $20.

      • +1

Maybe a negative vote was harsh then so I have retracted it.

But it still doesn't seem like a bargain.

  • I can't see anywhere that they offer a top-up data pack if you need more in a given month.
If you do go over your cap it's $40/GB.
If that's the case - no deal.

    • +4

i was told by customer service they are looking at adding data pack options. so should be on the cards. i've been with them for a few months and are happy with their service. They are a 'Not for Profit' telco and support people with disabilities. win win.

  • +12

Will be porting out from Vaya to these guys in the next week or so.

Fed up with Vaya's dodgy practices.

    • +2

Also have a look at Spintel and Telechoice. I prefer the Telechoice plans. They are closer to the value of Vaya plans in my opinion and they bill in 10kB increments.

      https://www.telechoice.com.au/kogan-offers

    • +4

yep i ported out from Vaya a month ago…never looked back!

  • +3

i just changed to them from vodafone…porting took only 1.5hours…so quick! their customer service is really good…happy new customer for now!

    • +15

Yeah, regarding porting - If you are porting from one network to another, it is automated and porting usually goes through very fast.

If you are porting from the same carrier (for example Optus to Virgin who both use the Optus network), the whole process is done manually. This is due to the entire porting system being very old and not recognising resellers. When they put through a port from say Optus to Virgin, the system automatically declines it saying you cannot port from Optus to Optus. From there, the company usually has a team in the porting area that does the port manually (including the verification, and disconnection from the old network along with the new company having it connected to their network).

Just a heads up for anybody wondering why some ports take so long. :)

      • you think so? (not saying you're wrong, but there's exception like Vodafone) :-)

I ported from Telstra to Vodafone, it took more than 36 hours for them to complete a number to port over!
the reason I ported to them is because I have a spare Prepaid pack and wanna use it before it expire, once this pack usage finished, I'll port back to Telstra, no way I am going back to Vodafone!

        • There is always the exception. For example when one of the carriers is experiencing an outage… then all their ports get backlogged etc. Or the porting system itself might have died… BUT generally speaking thats how it is.

OH also especially during Christmas, too many ports go through and it kinda clogs up the system. :)

  • +5

They also donate sim packs to the disadvantaged and I remember reading profits going towards a good cause as well. Also per kB data billing. Hence my port out from Vaya

  • +3

I ported both of my parents from Live Connected to Jeenee a couple of weeks ago.
Love that Jeenee's customer service hotline is based locally and I had my call answered in only a few rings.
Porting was smooth and my parents say that they haven't had any problems with using it so far.

  • +5

Data is billed in 1kb blocks which is better than most resellers. Signed up a month ago, it's been great.

  • +2

Actually ported over yesterday - port process took under 25 minutes and I had full service!

So far been very good, their customer service is great since I think there aren't too many people with them yet. Both times I've called I've been connected instantly with no wait times.

  • Why is the old post marked as expired?

    • time expiry I guess……

  • +2

I'll echo what everyone else is saying. I have had 2 phones with them since December with no issues. I had an issue with their billing at the start so contacted them a few times. They always answer the phone quickly and were quick to offer compensation above the amount I wanted. If you can go without Telstra coverage and their plan inclusions are suitable for you, then go for it.

    • For telstra coverage there is Telechoice. 3G only though.

      • and Boost and Aldi :)

      • +1

lyca as well for 19 unlimited talk and text plus 5 gb data

        • +3

Lyca doesn't directly use the Telstra network, it's just another reseller Telstra slows massively at peak times.

  • Now if Spintel would just offer the same waive of the setup/SIM fee as they have done before and I just requested, we'll sign with them in flash!

Their plans seems a bit more flexible, pay only for what you use, free bump up if over allowance and data bolt ons if needed!

Come on Spintel match the Jeenee new user credit/SIM waive deal that you've done before and watch as your brand new customers come over from VAYA et al! :)

    • +3

FYI, bumping is their shifty way hiding the fact they're actually upgrading you to the next level up "permanently".
You need to change it manually to go back down to your (lower) original plan.

      • +1

holy shit, that is bloody sneaky

        • -1

Even if you forget to change it down to lower level it would only cost you a few dollars more. I wouldn't call this sneaky.
Or do you prefer to pay something like $200 in excess usage?

        • +1

          @nbn:
the bit that is sneaky is that they don't drop you back to your original plan

      • just login once a month to decrease back to normal levels. worst case you pay the same for the next month, no bill shock like other companies when you go over.

$36 for unlimited calls, texts and 2.5gb on 4G (billed per kb).

  • -1

I don't get how this is that good a deal?

Boost is $40 per month (ie $5 more) and you get unlimited calls, compared to $650 (to non Jeenee customers). Everything else is the same - ie 3gb data.

Boost is the full 3G Telstra Network, Jeenee is Optus, which is pretty poor in comparison…

    • +5

      This also has 4G though

      • -5

Is Optus 4G any good? And wouldn't that only be effective in CBDs?

I note it says "Works on 3G and 4G handsets". Are you sure this is 4G or just that a 4G handset will be backwards compatible and work?

        • +2

i'm on the vaya $18 with the $650 + 1.5gig and its 4G. It's pretty good and for the price i pay its great :)

    • +2

I see your point - and this is just me, but I spend 95% of the time in metro areas and have no issues with Optus, so I'd defo got the Optus 4G over the Telstra 3G

    • +2

Jeenee is per kb charged and is also a not for profit so some good karma comes your way

    • +1

Boost is not 3Gb permanently , it is 3Gb for a limited time (not measured per Kb).
So this is $5 cheaper and has 500Mb more data on a faster network (if coverage isn't an issue).
Also lots of people use a small portion of that $650 call credit, so Boosts unlimited calls ads nothing to their offer (for those people).
Also (for people like myself) I send international SMS fairly regularly, here that comes out of the $650, I don't know if you can int sms with Boost.

  • +4

is the customer service located in australia?

    • +3

They are, and I've never had to wait very long to get connected

  • -1

Amaysim do 5gb data for $45 per month which is better value for me.

    • They only do data over the old 3G. Jeenee is 4G as well as 3G.

    • +1

I was with Amaysim and most months I was using most of the 5gb of data and having to ration towards the end of the month.
Changed to Jeenee's 3GB plan and data counted in KB not MB, was hardly using 1.5GB per month. So have dropped back to their $25 plan on 1.5 GB.
Great local service, 4G coverage …only downside their dashboard is a bit old fashioned.

  • +1

I get that Vaya aren't perfect, but I pay $17/m for $650 calls and 1.5gb data on optus 4G, which is all enough for me. Still can't see any deals that beat that around?

    • +1

Vaya charges data on the power plans by MB unless you pay a once off $25 fee. Jeenee seems to charge by KB, unless you go over your data limit. However, in the long run Vaya might still be better if you are willing to pay the once off fee.

Still this seems like a good deal, too bad optus in my area sucks… Voda > Telstra > poop > optus in my area. T_T

      • +5

Vaya charges data on the power plans by MB unless you pay a once off $25 fee.

Please allow me to fix that for you:-

Vaya charges data on the power plans by MB unless you pay a once off $25 fee and a recurring extra $10 each month. So, an extra $145 for the first year - or an extra $12.10 a month.

        • lol thanks, I didn't see the $10 each month fee.

        • +3

          @ProjectZero:

lol thanks, I didn't see the $10 each month fee.

No one did, and it was not specified at first.

Ben later 'cleansed' their Facebook page and their Support Forum of all posts/comments/answers where Vaya stated that it was a "once off" fee and that there would be no need to pay for ongoing data top-ups to keep the per KB billing.

A bit later on he removed all the Support forum - it is back, but users can no longer communicate with each other or see the other complaints or support requests.

        • +5

@A3Australia: Dodgy telco and dodgy CEO. Embarrassing that they're allowed to continue to do business in Australia.

        • I would recommend trying per mb billing. Never go more than 50mg-100mg over phone reported usage. I live in melbourne and go across suburbs/towers everyday for commute with constant switches to 3g/4g at work.

Their poor service and dodgy practices may require more effort to resolve (e.g. billing errors and porting out refunds), but at half the price of everyone else, its well worth it if it comes off.

    • +2

I get that Vaya aren't perfect, but I pay $17/m for $650 calls and 1.5gb data on optus 4G

Odds are that you will sooner or later get the eMail saying they are moving you to their $27 V3 Plan which has no free Vaya to Vaya calls.

When you do get this eMail, contact them and say that you want to move to the $18 V3 Plan - or just port your number away.

    • +3

I got an email recently from Vaya saying that the could not continue that plan and had to put me on $25/month for the same service.

Check your email to see if you've missed it.

Vaya also bills /mb increments which massively increases your usage. I've had to pay for at least 2 data pack bolt-ons ($14) on average for the last 6 months.

These guys are no set up fee and donate to charity so it can't hurt to try. Their customer service has been amazing so far. I set up my account in less than 15 minutes from the moment I signed up on their page.

If they don't work out then I'll have a look around, but Kogan have stuffed me and everyone else around too much for my loyalty.

      • +1

I got an email recently from Vaya saying that the could not continue that plan and had to put me on $25/month for the same service.

They wanted to put me on the $27 V3.

There is no $25 V3 - perhaps you meant the $24 V3 ? The $24 V3 has a little bit more data. You should tell them you want to go to the $18 V3 - you lose Vaya to Vaya and International SMS MMS costs more.

These guys are no set up fee and donate to charity so it can't hurt to try. Their customer service has been amazing so far. I set up my account in less than 15 minutes from the moment I signed up on their page.

I believe that, for their telephone support, they try to employ people who are disabled.

  • -2

wish they did a plan with less data for cheaper. Say $25 for 1.5GB

    • +3

      Gotta be kidding?

    • +3

They have a Medium SIM pack, $25 for 1.5GB and $500 calls. Found it on the OP link

  • +1

Switching now… from Vodafone for the last 6 years.

  • +9

Vaya is terrible. I moved my 2 services away from them and have recommended others to do the same. The CEO Ben has no morals, or business sense.

  • i'm confused, how do telcos determine when to charge you for each MB?
    after a 100kb webpage?

    unlike calls which are continuous

    • +3

It's arbitrary based on how much money they want to suck from you. Actually.

  • +9

That this "$650 call value" is still a thing in Australia. The only reason for its existence is to confuse the consumers and make it very difficult to compare plans. Why aren't they just offering 500 minutes to landlines, 250 minutes to mobiles and 3GB data. Additionally, they have to show the cent/minute price after. Very easy to compare. Sorry for being offtopic.

    • +1

www.whistleout.com.au makes it easier to compare plans.

    • +1

"Why aren't they just offering …"

For exactly the reason you believe: they want to confuse customers when they attempt to compare value. It works most of the time. It's illegal in some jurisdictions such as New Zealand - I know this is amazing but over in NZ they actually give you a value figure in real New Zealand dollars not an arbitary amount in measure of value they just made up for that offer.

      Amazeballs I know.

It'd be nice if people just refused to deal with such blatant attempts to rip people off legally but oh well.

      • In new zealand dollars would be exactly the same as long as each carrier has its own flagfalls and $/min pricings. Minutes is the only measure that makes sense. That or just offer unlimited already.

  • Anyone that has Optus broadband can have the same deal as this with the Optus $45 mobile plan with unlimited calls for the same $35/month.

    • +1

Why would anyone intentionally decide to get Optus broadband though?

  • When's Amaysim going to go 4G?

    • In short, 4G will be launching amaysim-style around Easter next year. We know we’re not the first to offer 4G, but there’s a good reason why:

      • wait…..next year? 2016 you mean? LOL!

        • wait…..next year? 2016 you mean? LOL!

"We’re just about to sign off on 2014 and are all set for a massive 2015.

With that in mind, I’m excited about giving everyone a quick update on where we’re at with bringing 4G to amaysim.

          Here’s to 2015!"

  • +2

$35 a month? Ozbargainers only pay $15 a month, max, using Telstra starter kits…

    • With on going hassle of switching to different numbers porting here and there probably not worth the effort saving $5 over Telechoice or Boost

      • Real ozbargainers have a dual sim phone, and use two numbers, negating any need to port :D. One of my sim kits was $1…that's $1 for a month of phone usage. that's more than $5 saved

  • +1

Or look at the vodafone $50 red sim plan which is discounted to $45.

Unlimited calls, unlimited texts national and international, 4gb data, 300 international minutes and $5 a day roaming all on 4G.

If u a student, they gice bonus 1gb data

    • $35 actually

    • but is that only the starter pack, or every time you recharge?

  • anyone can suggest me a plan that do not need to recharge every month but only whatever i use? thx in advance

  • -1

No international calls are included. No deal.

    • That's a bit of a shame…

When vetting resellers, I tend to use whistleout's tool as well
      /Compare/4500/5935/6588:-|
Boost seems little different > exclude on supported devices video calls, + a push to upsell features…
behind the technology times a little bit.

Outside the nbn, I have no uplink to send 2_gig per hour to cloud services..really just fortunate in my research find vodafone > cable, at least atm. But then there are most who just pay for a name.

  • Isn't Lycamobile or something offering 5GB on Telstra 3G for around this price now …?

(Not that I bother with MVNOs that offer "unbelievable" deals these days since I figured out that I don't want to waste time chasing up these a**holes as they try to screw any money at all on every single opportunity ever and then spend hours on the phone listening to "wonderful" music etc).

    • +3

Lyca routes their traffic through the Philippines. Service is atrocious.
