Damn was gonna jump on this but I have 15 guns in my collection!

    • Damn, I've only got 8!

      • +3

Just buy more via in-app purchase :P lol

    • +2

good luck getting anywhere near 14 guns in that safe. Maybe 9-10 at best

      • True. 10 safe hardly fits 8. That's with 2 rimfires.

        • +1

Yeah I know what you mean, I have 14 in a 14 but its like tetris in there. If I didn't have them in gun socks I'd have to take 3 of them out.

        • +2

@Malarkey: Scopes kill it for me

    • +2

I have 2 RPG's and i was thinking the same thing

  • +5

    purchased. need some guns now.

    • +3

      Spackbace has an extra gun

      • Read further, most gunsafes dont hold their full capacity so he might have 2-3 spare.

  • +1

Hi I have one of these. feds arrest me plz

    • +2

I don't get it. A safe is a great place to keep valuables.

And there are a lot of registered firearms in Australia legally stored in safes, much like these, in people's houses.

      • Thank you for commonsense, however if my observations are anything to go by, it's not welcome here on OzBargain :(

  • Why would I want a gun safe? I dont even own A gun let alone many guns that would necessitate an entire safe!

    • +1

came here to post this :(

      • +1

ditto. Came here to quote. Sign says no quoting. Denied.

    • +1

They make a great safe for general goods too

    • +4

I'm sure there are a few shooters lurking on OZB :)

    • +4

if you have just one firearm you need a safe to store it

    • +3

      It's the law, genius.

Licensed firearm owners must store firearms in an approved gun safe inspected by the police, on their premises, as per the post-1996 National Firearms Act. Over 800,000 other Australians may have such a need; you not being one of them doesn't suddenly invalidate this deal.

      • +1

Actually you would find the law is not always so genius. Bureaucrats don't always impose laws that are stat-driven instead it's usually politically driven.

        • +1

I was originally going to type "It's a stupid law, but a law nonetheless" but I didn't want to the invoke the full fury of the OzBargain Anti-Gun Brigade of Concerned Armchair Politicians and Moral Regulators. It's been a long time since the last tirade, I was hoping to avoid another one.

      • +2

No worries Amar. Its actually a slightly modified quote from Waynes World. :)

        • I'm so glad there was actually one person who recognised it. Must be the generation gap.

        • No Way !

    • +5

Upvoted for the Wayne's World reference that everyone else obviously missed!!

      • Those that got it clearly showed their age… Much like 'wax on…wax off'

        • Hey dude, I'm only 26. Wayne's world is one for old ages.

  • -1

Damn thing only weighs 80KG's. Quite useless as a 'safe'.

LOL, they've listed "High quality knob' as a feature.

    • +1

Typically they can be bolted to the floor. Looking at the page, it appears this one can too.

From the review at the bottom:

The unit is sturdily constructed, the locking mechanism works well, floor mounting bolts are provided.

    • In VIC at least you can store your Category A&B firearms in a hardwood container but it would still need to be bolted to the floor is it was under 150kg.

      • QLD is the same. I just bolted on extra weight to mine to put it over 150kg so I didn't have to drill a hole since I'm renting.

EDIT: This safe isn't legal for cat H firearms in QLD (Handguns)

  • +3

All my guns are on my computer. So I can put my computer in this safe.

    • +23

You can use the inbuilt 'Safe mode'.

  • +12

Hi. This looks big enough to fit a toddler. Please confirm.

Also, I see it is carpeted; is there a plumbing option?

    • it may even have an ensuite :)

    • stay classy ozbargain!

    • +3

      Cheap 'panic room'?

    • with or without gun?

  • I have 2 guns, but I think they'll have trouble fitting in such a small locker.

    • is that one of them? (pointing to pocket region) lol

      • it's a trap!

  • +7

i use this safe to hold my eneloops

    • i might have to crack you safe them

  • +4

    Lol… Reminds me of this:
    www.youtube.com/watch?v=fP3HJVp3n9c
    (NSFW)

  • This is perfect to store these lethal weapons

    http://www.news.com.au/technology/gadgets/one-company-is-cro…

Actually these safes are very good to leave empty aside from some barbell weights as the criminals will abandon all your other valuables to focus on taking a worthless empty safe.

    • in reality thieves will just go for stuff that's easy to take, which doesn't include and 80kg safe.

      • Yeah true if it's the regular quick hit and run types
Anyway maybe a smallish fireproof safe that's heavy would be better option for distraction

    • +13

I don't get what the problem is? Plenty of Australians legally own firearms. The only "stupid" thing here is that you don't already realise this.

        • +9

Nah, its a piece of cake.

Sign up here: http://www.ssaa.org.au/ this gives you a genuine reason to apply for a license. While you're there you should probably attend a firearm safety course ;)

I saw your in Melbourne so you'll need to print the Cat A and B application form from this page: http://www.police.vic.gov.au/content.asp?Document_ID=34468

          And your done!

I've tried to make it simple for you but feel free to PM me if you need help with any of the instructions above.

        • -6

          @Malarkey:

I think the likelihood of me getting a permit would be higher in New York City than it would here. I've never seen a bargain posted before that excludes 97% of the population…

        • +9

@MrZ: This safe doesn't HAVE to be used for firearms but alas, like I said it is a pretty straight forward process and shooting is a fantastic sport. But I noticed you bag out deals about condoms and firearms… Two items you clearly have no need for.

        • +3

          @MrZ:

"Condoms are only for those who sleep around." As a single 25yo guy I'm guilty as charged.

But seriously head down to your local clay target club and give it a try (shooting, not sex with strangers). You would be surprised how safe and fun it is

        • @Malarkey: Nah don't bother with a gun club. Just call up DEPI, get a $14 permission to hunt feral animals on crown land, payable over the phone. That's good enough reason for licensing.

        • @Dominic:

I'm pretty jealous you can hunt on crown land! I wish they would open it up in QLD. I'm not short on properties but it can be a struggle to find places sometimes.

        • @MrZ:

There are 800,000 firearms owners in Australia. I very much welcome anything which increases the security with which they store their weapons, and it is a legal requirement they do so.

        • @MrZ:

What on earth are you talking about? Do you understand how babies are made? Even people in "proper" relationships might want the reproductive control condoms offer.
And why wouldn't you want to encourage people who "sleep around" to have protected sex?
You post some very strange things.

        • @mskeggs:

I didn't say that people who sleep around shouldn't have protected sex. I said that they're the primary market for condoms. People in committed relationships rarely need condoms because the female is usually on birth control, so condoms are redundant. You could use them, I suppose, but it kills much of the sensation so it's less than ideal.

        • @MrZ:

          No.

    • +5

Australia has over 800,000 licensed gun owners with something like 3 million firearms in civilian circulation. Prior to 1996, Australia had a per capita rate of gun ownership on par with the US. Open a book once in a while.

Just because you have to jump through dozens of arbitrary hoops to actually get a firearms license in Australia; does not negate the fact that plenty of Aussies have a need for a gun safe. Doubtless plenty of them have also come across OzBargain.

Take a deep breath next time instead of projectile vomiting verbal diarrhea.

        • +3

US is something like 50% of the population.

Try 33% or less. You've already made it very plain that your views on guns are steeped in hysteria and misinformation so you're not one to be taken seriously on any of this.

As you've said, being almost impossible for the average person to obtain one,

You =/= Average Person =/= Gun Owner.

Why do people take their needs and interests as being so universally applicable.

I mean you are the same guy who kept banging on about how he would only give up Windows XP when all hell froze over (literally); meanwhile 97% of normal computer users are happily using Windows 7 or 8 and enjoying not being on a decrepit, 14-year old operating system. You also seem to be something of a staunch neophobe in general, with your love of CRT televisions and bizarre penchant for outmoded technology; and countless times you've railed against an overwhelming majority consensus against your particular, niche point of view.

Here you are now criticizing others for having different niche views/interests and defending them.

          Talk about hypocrisy.

        • @Amar89:

I made that comment about XP in 2012, 3 years ago. At the time, Windows 8 wasn't even out. If Microsoft still supported XP with updates, there would be little reason for the average person to even upgrade from it today - it's that good. There is still no display technology that matches the picture quality of CRT. SED was the only one that looked promising, but never eventuated. Higher resolutions does not equal better quality. Most people only get new technology for the sake of it being new, they have no clue whether or not it's actually better than that it replaces.

    • Damnit people, Don't feed the trolls!!!!

  • The code appears to apply but then doesnt when you actually checkout if you try to go straight to paypal. You need to go to checkout first and then select paypal

  • Shipping looks to be anywhere between $60 and $130 depending on which state.

It's been a while since I bought my last safe (off eBay, believe it or not) but I believe they were significantly cheaper than this once you took shipping into account.

    • Not for this size and weight right?

  • +1

I need a safe this big for all my money…. :p

    • I spent all my money on this safe…

  • +1

Bought it for my N64 collection

    • M16 collection?

      • You spelled MI6 wrong :P

I'm assuming that is the CS ebay store

then again, this same "safe" appears in various guises online

don't expect it to keep anything secure - same control panel as on those cheap arse lock boxes that be opened with a potato

    • Counter Strike?

      Counter Terrorists win.

  • +3

But how many Eneloops can it hold?

    • +1

You don't need a safe for eneloops, you need a display case.

  • +1

Enter CS20OFF for additional 20% discount, works site wide,
Doesn't work on most of the sale items. Seems like it only works on this gun safe. None of the rest accept the discount code.

  • TOLL IPEC are terrible at delivering and don't have a depot to pick up from so you have to rely on their ability to deliver. So expect a week of phone calls back and forth trying to get this delivered because I'm preeeeeety sure they don't have computers and rely on a system of post-it notes and writing on the back of their hands.

  • +1

Regardless of whether I have guns or not I would have just bought this for general storage especially for any valuable larger items and documents… Its a shame this its at the wrong timing for me. Hopefully this deal will come again later in the year

  • These are a bit like buying a cable lock for your expensive bike.

If you had a cheap battery angle grinder you can cut out the side walls within seconds. Good to look at though.

    • +2

Except that a gun safe is a legal requirement for storing firearms.

Can't imagine someone cutting a hole in 2mm steel big enough to remove a rifle with a cheap cordless angle grinder in seconds. Would be fun to watch you try though.

      • By legal requirement, you mean wooden box secured to the ground which could be made safer than this. I don't like to assume but you don't seem like you've had much experience cutting sheet metal (please correct me if wrong) but you wouldn't cut a "hole".. you would simply slash 3 lines in the side and peel an opening from the top (bit like when you open a packet of mince meat from coles) then slide the rifles out. You could probably use tin snips as an alternative. If you buy one I'd love to demonstrate for you. In fact I'll even go you halfies on the YouTube AdWords money we make. Or maybe we can crowdfund this project or resell the cabinet after I weld it back together here. We can call it oztested.com.. What you think?

        • Yeah my wording wasn't great. Opening would've been better than hole. The point is still the same.

Okay, now you can cut into this thing with tin snips! I think we're done here champ.

        • @Roscoe99:

Yep. Tin snips. Have you got one? I do. I bolted mine in between two walls so you could only get to it from the front/top. I had to modify the base in a similar fashion to fit. Again, it's quite easy to cut. You need to think like a crook.. Otherwise you'll end up the chump, champ.
