I remember this deal from 2009
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/16250

    • 2 regular chickens… sometimes you can get a tiny extra large chicken… at least these days you can get a look at the chook before you buy it…

Thanks TA … I feel like chicken tonight … and tomorrow, and the next and the next and for lunch … gonna get me some chickens and freeze them up

  • Yep, our local one has them too

  • What are these like compared to the Woolies ones? They are pretty large.

    • I like the Coles ones, I alternate buying from Coles and Woolies depending on whats on special

    • For some reason I dislike the Coles chickens but do like the Woolies version, they are different. One of the few items where Woolie beats Coles for my meat dollars.

Thats all my cat will eat these days. Damn old fussy eating cat.

    • jsut give it normal food it'll get hungry enough before long. your fault for spoiling it ;)

      • +3

He is under weight and developed some food allergies. I will give him anything that he can keep down.
Even Hill's can cat food does not go well with him.
Right now, roasted chicken does the trick.

I buy one per week, I make a meal and a lunch for myself, shred the rest, keep them in small containers and freeze them.
I can get about 7 meals for him.

          aww poor kitty :(

        • Try Moggie on human quality tuna in springwater.
          They usually hoe into it.

Believe it or not…it's actually cheaper than Fancy Feast cat food in a can.

        • @mrmoshe:

Thanks for the suggestion. Will try that.
He will eat can cat food. He likes it, but it comes back out in spectacularly.

    • My dog loves them too!

      • cooked chicken is bad for dogs intestines

        • +4

He is 17 years old. We're at a stage where we have to give him anything he will eat, and he wont eat canned dog food.

        • Just make sure you taken all the bones out of it.
Cooked Bones = bad for pets.

        • @lplau:

Any bones = bad for pets.

        • @djevoultion:
Not really. Dogs like to chew bones. Any bones.

          @ms:

Just because dogs like to chew bones doesn't make it healthy for them. Do a google search and you will see. Keep bones away from your dog. Cooked or raw.

        • +1

          @djevoultion:
I would rather trust the vet than Google. I have been told by the vet that chewing raw bones is good for teeth and gums of dogs. They lobe it too.

        • @ms: Not cooked. Raw is fine. Cooked they splinter and cause real big vet bills. Cooked can be lethal for foods. But fresh, yeah go for your life with some chicken wings. Most dogs will woof into chicken wings no issues. Just need to make sure fresh is fresh as uncooked can still contain bugs (more vet bills).

        • @nonpop:
In general I don't give cooked bone to my dog. I usually buy a bag of bones from the butcher. Hasn't caused a problem to the dog for nearly 10 years.

        • @ms: Happy days then. But since this thread is about cooked chickens I think good for people not to think they can give cooked bones.

        • @nonpop: Yup correct.
When they chew on raw bone, they sort of grind it down. Where as cooked bones will splinter.

You forgot the rule that it is impossible to give a cat a "treat" - you merely reset the bar for "normal". That's how the pet-food companies have managed to persuade owners that after 6 million years of surviving on crickets, mice, and sparrows they have suddenly developed a need for chicken fillet in mornay, tuna and the odd fillet of beef.

Mine will get some tho - the only time I've had slightly dodgy chicken, my cat and dog had turned their noses up, tho it had looked and felt fine to me. They have never turned down Cole's….

      • +3

Yeah "gourmet pet food" isn't made to make the animal feel good, it's for the owner.

      • [Later] RSPCA approved chook too - explains why there is flavour :-) ♫♪Ya got to move, ya got to move…♪♫

      • Tried giving our cats 'good' food, nope, they much prefer the dry and the tinned stuff. Winning :)

    • +1

Have you tried the fancy coles brand tuna and seafood flavoured cat food?

My old cat would only eat that as he got older, no idea why.

  • +2

same price at woolies every Tuesday. well it is at endeavor hills, vic :)

  • Thanks TA, always love an $8 chook!

  • Select Woolworths (Findon, Kilkenny & others) in SA have them for $7 all week at the moment, apparently.

  • +1

I got sick of eating roast chickens, have them while I was in NZ eat all day for the whole damn week. But this price is a bargain :)

  • +2

All costco has it at 6.99 all day everyday

    • +5

cost of membership and cost of getting there…..

      • +2

The ones at Costco taste better too.

        • Costco ones are more salty.

  • Thanks man will grab one tonight :)

  • Free range?

    • This must be the normal one.
Lilydale Free Range Roast Chicken is better. Much more tasty and juicy.

    • +1

I scored two lillydale chooks for $8 each
The shop attendant voluntarily reduced the price for me :)

  • Are these chicken stuffed with anything or just plain?

    • +3

      They're stuffed.

      • I often find their stuffing quite tasteless. Not much herbs or spices. Totally different to your local charcoal chicken place.

  • +1

our store in QLD is definitely doing $8 chooks Saturday as well.
