      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lurpak

Danish butter. The traditional silver package one's are not spreadable.

      • +5

        $2.70 for a stick of butter isn't cheap…

But $2.70 for a stick of Lurpak butter IS cheap. Tastes amazing as well!

        • @adelaideanonymous: yes great taste, I can't believe it's butter.

        • +2

          @drb:

          I can't believe it's butter.

So how does butter taste better than butter tastes??

EDIT - So later down I find out why as its NOT 100% butter is got vegetable oil taht is called MARGARINE. So the taste isnt PURE butter.

So I pay more for BUTTER with MARGARINE. and of course being IMPORTED. :)

        • @RockyRaccoon:

          Champagne is imported too!

      • My Aldi butter comes in a silver package as well :)

This stuff will literally change the way you eat anything you currently spread with butter. Actually after tasting lurpak it becomes an experiment to see what else tastes good with lurpak

    • Is it better than this ?

    • +2

seems like it's not butter after all, it's blended with vegetable oil…

      • The majority of brands make their butter spreadable with some type of oil.

We've been buying Mainland for years.

        • $6-$6.60/375g. Much more expensive. This works out to be around $4 for an equivalent size.

      • +1

i don't think the vegetable oil in the spreadable is doing you any good. normal butter is healthier for most people

        • +2

          also, my kids hate vegetables!

  • +1

If I read the catalogue right, it's not on special in WA.

  • Will try this! thanks op!

So much negativity, i will stick with my Medow lea thank you very much.

  • my favourite butter!

Discounted price is about DOUBLE what it is actually worth.

It is butter. Tastes like butter. Tastes like Australian butter.

People think it tastes "amazing" because they compare it to Margarine.

Everyone used to know the flavour of spreads like this in the old days, before they started emulsifying vegetable oil and selling it in tubs as a butter substitute.

Hint - go to your local store and buy a block of Australian salted butter. The cheapest one you can find, but not the "lite' or the 'low salt' versions. Then compare THAT to your wanky overpriced Danish butter, and see if it's worth paying 3 to 6 times extra.

Lurpak is the Apple of dairy products. iButter made for iSheep.

      I found THAT guy

Try Ozbargins new dating site. I think it can confirm if you two are a perfect match??? Good luck ☺

    • +2

It doesn't taste like Australian butter because it has lactic acid bacteria cultures added. I think I've only seen one cultured Australian butter available at the supermarket, but I've never tried it as it only came in unsalted. If you taste test a cultured butter and a regular one, there's a very noticeable taste difference.

    • Agree. I tried Lurpak recently and it most definitely does not live up to the hype. Homebrand butter, which costs about $1.50 for a 250gram block, has a much nicer, creamier taste.

With all due respect if you're saying it tastes the same as any cheap butter, you sir have a terrible palate. You're comparing what essentially is Cadbury to Lindt. Smoothness is not even in the same level

      • -1

        Every has different taste!

        • Everyone has different preference, but it doesn't mean that two products are the same. If you can't taste the difference it doesn't mean there is no difference.

  • +2

For all the doubters, its only $2.70! Lurpak butter is my favourite butter, markedly better than others, so I will definitely put their soft spread on the shopping list.

  • Might give it a shot!

Mmmm this is particularly delicious stuff. Only thing that comes close is Devondale's "light" spread. IMO it's equally Delicious, but devondale's is much healthier.

  • Just picked up a block of the original lightly salted butter. Also half price. Perfect timing as I just started LCHF. Thanks OP!

    • good luck! i've tried very low carb, less than 50g net, for a short while but decided it wasn't sustainable since i like fruit too much! i'm happy with just restricting carbs to moderate levels, typically 100-200g.

my total cholesterol did go up a bit from very low levels to normal levels with increased fat intake (lots of yoghurt, cheese, eggs, nuts, coconut oil, olive oil). whether that is bad or not is unclear. i think coconut oil was the main culprit.

  • Thanks! Went to pick one up but saw that the blocks of butter were also half price. Good deal, have bought some to also use in baking since it is so cheap!

Guys if Coles also has brioche bread on sale, toast the brioche bread and smother it with lurpak.

Disclaimer: I cannot be held responsible if you get addicted, over consume and die from a heart attack

    • Why does everyone instantly keel over and die of heart attacks or get diabetes at the mention of unhealthy eating on OzB?

  • +1

Lurpack is the world's best butter bar-none IMO.
This is a great price, as even at Costco I can only get it $6.79 for 500g. Get the "slightly salted" blue & silver pack though.
OP - FreakyCat - ignore the wowsers, trolls and others posting here that want to turn this into some form of intellectual debate on Fn butter!

  • It's the best butter!

  • can butter be frozen and retain its texture afterwards?
