free because no one is signing up for it, absolute rubbish quality and rubbish shows…..

how long until Presto / Stan merge and quickflix dies? not long

    • +1

I have been using presto for a couple of weeks now and I am relatively happy with the content, I wish they would update with more titles a bit more often, but other than that I can't complain.

BTW, I got 6 months for free, I can't remember the coupon code though.

EDIT: I am using this on my T-BOX

      • Yes on T-BOX its 6 months free.

6 months with code TEL515V2 here:

how long until Presto / Stan merge and quickflix dies? not long

Actually, looks like Presto will be streaming via Quickflix in HD for $10 a month:

      • but 6 months code is only for T-Box

        • +3

No…just enter the code on signup…I have been using it with my Chromecast since March.

        • Great! I will try it, I will also update post. Thanks

        • @AshFon: I got 6 months with kirt's code

      • +7

Awesome. Might consider it then but I just wont use Presto's half assed low res poxo service where I can't even use my phone because its not supported by their idiotic app.

        • Good to see you are not holding back there with your Presto review……you gave me a big laugh……

        • +7

@cim85: Put it this way, it's so bad I cancelled it within 2 days when I had it for free for 6 months.

        • +1

@SirFlibbled: yes I'm hearing you so I will give it a miss, many tks

        • @SirFlibbled:
Ditto. The app installed on my phone fine but it didn't work coz apparantly my phone is rooted. So had to cancel even though I got 3 months free deal.

        • +1

@GeneralZod: At least you did something to your phone, mine just wasn't supported. Such is life when I use an obscure brand like Sony.

      • Actually there's no pricing, no mention of HD content, nor much of anything in the way of details at this stage. All they have is an agreement to sort something out in the coming months.

        http://www.cnet.com/au/news/quickflix-partners-with-foxtel-t…

It seems highly unlikely that as an affiliate they'll be allowed to undersell Presto, but it all remains to be seen.

    • Presto and Quickflix might merge - at least they will work together and Quickflix will resell Presto content (Source: http://www.theaustralian.com.au/business/media/quickflix-str…)

But I agree - the quality on Presto is not great at the moment and not many devices supported. For free … mhhh … can't complain.

      • Presto/Quickflix merge won't happen (or not without a lot of bloodshed).
StreamCo (part-owners of Stan) took over one of Quickflix's debt tools as well as preference shares(8% stake) last year. They get a $10.5m payout if there's a change of ownership, on tiop of any shares settlement.
Currently Quickflix has a market capitalisation of just over $5m, so a prohibitive lockout.

    • +3

A friend of mine signed up for Presto. Some of the reasons he cancelled his subscription were:

      1. No HD. He contacted them and asked when HD was going to become available. They currently have no plans to move to HD.

      2. Locking to 3 devices. Locked… Not like Netflix where no more than X simultaneously, locked! And on top of that, addon devices like Chromecasts count as well. So Tablet 1, Phone 2, Chromecast 3. Only way to remove a device is to contact their support.

EDIT: Just signed up with the 6 month code. It forces me to set a parental code and wont' let me allow R rated content by default. I understand defaults but at least give me the option to remove parental controls. How do they expect to make money when they can't even satisfy non-paying users?

      • I thought this too.

What it ACTUALLY means is that you can't watch ANY R content without putting in your pin.
You can't clear the R rating but you can watch any R movies.

I guess it's a safety feature for those (like me) who have chirrens.

What I don't like on presto (other than SD content) is that I can't set up multiple profiles for the family like I can on Stan.

So that means for my family I set the rating lock at PG which means when you watch anything above 'G' you have to put in your 4 digit pin. A minor inconvenience but…considering I'm getting the content for free for the next 6 months…meh.

    • I had two months of presto for free but closed my account before the first month was up as I watched all that was worth watching which wasn't much.

    • +2

Not only is it rubbish quality but it's not supported on my XBOX360, PS3 or PS4. You have to watch it in a flash player browser.

  • +2

If you're planning to use it on an Android device, be aware there's an ongoing bug where you get sound but no video through chromecast. There are other problems as well, the app simply won't run on some devices, movies cut out halfway through, the list goes on.

Also there are bad problems with lipsync (on any platform) and all the content is SD. The catalogue of shows isn't exactly stellar either.

    • +1

Yes I have noticed on occasion that the audio sync can be off by alot.

      • How lazy is that. Even if dialogue is out of sync by just a bit it becomes way too distracting/irritating to watch.

    • They also block you from using it if your device is rooted, like the Foxtel Go app.

Nothing but rubbish, as usual from Foxtel

  • I'll give it a crack but I seriously doubt it'll be worth my money when the trial expires as I already have US netflix. But free is free.

  • +6

    NETFLIX all the way :)

  • They might have a chance once they get their act together and make it work on all Android devices.
Stan + Presto still doesn't equal Netflix
interesting the day Netlfix lands in Aus my Smart tv get an s/w upgrade , embedded Netflix

    • +4

The app has always existed on most smart TV platforms, just disabled via regional restrictions until now.

      • End of the month older Pana plasmas get the app.
        :)

  • +1

Have Telstra cable with a very good connection, have presto, try watching movies presto keeps pausing Throughout the movie, won't even come back on at times, constantly happening = no chance of signing up after the 6 month free trial

  • Thanks, I'll give it ago.

  • Is this for new signups only? Already took advantage of a free 3 months with my Telstra prepaid. Wouldn't mind an extension, although I haven't looked at it since getting Netflix.

    • I think this code works for existing customer as well. Give it a shot.

  • How do you put shows on the to watch list? Or is there not one?

  • Thanks OP~ nabbed the 6 months free!

  • Can anyone tell me if I can sign up with the code (and compulsorily enter CC details) then cancel (in order to ensure charges are avoided after free months expire) but still continue to use the service for the remaining months?

    • +1

No, You open your account with CC details then you cannot remove your CC details. You have to cancel the subscription before it expires. Once you cancel it - you cannot watch it anymore.

    • Set a calendar reminder on your phone to cancel your subscription 1 day before the expiration date.

That's what I did for my Stan trial.

  • Quality is so bad. Worse than watching netflix on lowest quality.

  • Can't imagine anyone using anything other than netflix.

    • -1

I think Stan or Presto (if Presto was useful) would be a viable addition to Netflix. They do have shows not available on it like Foxtel's original content.

But I wouldn't get them in place of Netflix.

  • Best thing about Presto is they have the X-Files….other than that, it's a bit of a piece of poo.

    • Netflix actually has it although that's only possible once you switch to the U.S library, not sure with Presto but it was recently upgraded to 16:9 HD version.

      • How do you switch to us… Is that a separate account to your Aus one?

        • DNS switching services or use a full function VPN. I trialled Getflix and it was great but the Australian library is satisfying enough for now.

By the time I get through the Australian content, Netflix content will probably be universal across all regions and there'll be no need for these sevices.

        • @Trickey: SmartDNS services do more than just Netflix though. It's great for accessing Hulu and Vudu and for international sports channels like NBA, EPL etc.

        • No need to make a U.S account, Aus is fine(and Netflix don't mind either it seems).

I was using UnoTelly until the trial expired, but have recently come across a website that displays U.S DNS servers.

It's as easy as inputting the addresses into whatever your watching Netflix off(Works well with WDTV Live), and it's free which is good. In saying that based on my understanding I would only use it for devices for Netflix, instead of laptop/PC's if you want to play it safe given it's free.

  • +1

Content is meh and quality is meh. But 6 months for free and I'll keep it. gotta set up a reminder to cancel it though before the trial runs out. thanks for posting the deal OP!

  • Got the free trial but the most disappointing thing is that it doesn't support Apple TV streaming. Big cross for me. Even Google owned YouTube supports it.

  • +2

gosh, only SD and no plan to introduce HD, which age are they at, and how do they plan to compete with Netflix and Stan exactly?

  • Netflix kills them all. Besides that just activate your $1 Telstra SIM from the other deal and you get 3 months anyway with presto if you really wish

  • I have Netflix, Stan, Presto, Fetch TV and have not used Stan in over a month. I had the free 6 months Presto trial and never used it. I had to cancel this subscription a week ago because I didn't want to forget about it and be charged for the first month.
Unless stan or Presto lower the prices or do something amazing these stream services will be cancelled after their trial expires I think.

    • Haha I did exactly the same thing! Cancelled 2 weeks in as paying for Netflix and presto just rubbish

  • Frustrating using Presto. So buggy & inconvenient compared to Netflix…and more expensive

  • Can you stream Netflix, Presto, etc from smart tv's directly?

    • Depends on the TV and the availability of the app.

If not, Chromecast supports Netflix, Stan, Presto, Quickflix, Plex etc ;)

  • Thanks for the 6 months free code! Probably not as good as Netflix but free is certainly the best price.

  • +1

I'm not usually big believer in conspiracy theories but I honestly believe that Stan and Presto are deliberately set up to fail, so Foxtel and their dinosaur cronies can have a cry and blame their failure on Australians being habitual pirates.

Several fact lead me to this conclusion:
No HD content, not even an option to turn on HD if your connection supports it.
    Limited to 2.0 sound (seriously?)
Very limited devices (no consoles? WTF)
    Even SD quality is horrible
Tech Support is non existent, Centrelink levels of incompetent

I've tried Quickflix, Stan and Presto, all suffered the same issues, I cancelled each within days, Netflix and Hulu Plus are the only services worth a cracker.

As a side note, local versions of pay to own movie streaming services are equally as shit, I've tried both JB and Ezyflix, their limited clients (again, no console clients) made it impossible for me to compare them adequately to Vudu, which has a better range, better prices and better deals. Australians getting the raw prawn again and again, and they wonder why we all pirate - ironically I am fully legit, but not a centt goes to Aus based services.

    Ok, rant over.

    • You could always buy a chromecast. That's what I did. Ezyflix is pretty much just the AU equiv of Vudu now.

  • Am enjoying Presto so far on the iPad mini, a lot of movies/shows on my watchlist for the next 6 months!

  • I don't even want this for free.

  • Presto is not the best. The app and the quality is not that great and definitely needs work. But some of the content is actually pretty good.

I don't know why people think Stan is that bad. I thought is was virtually the same as Netflix to be honest. I actually preferred the content on Stan over Netflix. I was expecting big things from Netflix with all the hype, but actually felt a bit disappointed once I had it.

The only things that separated the two when I was using them was, Netflix had Dolby 5.1 and Stan didn't, but both streamed HD.

The other thing I liked in Stan was, that you could view all the movies on one page from the ipad app. With netflix you have to side swipe every God damn title. I felt giddy after a while.

  • There is also this offer https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=1004545466…

The code PRESTO60 which also works for current customers

    • How does that work? I'm almost finished my free 1 month trial. Do I cancel my subscription then join again with the promo code?

      • In the account section there should be a button "apply promo code" click that then enter the PRESTO60 code then your account pin and it should say with a prompt if the code has been accepted.

        • It was looking right at me and I didn't see it. Thanks for that. Got an extra two months. Cheers!

  • Merged from FREE 3 Months Presto - Streaming TV and Movies

Just found a pretty sweet deal via an online ad - just clicked through to this webpage and it seemed to work fine.
not a bad service, some decent stuff that i don't have on my netflix account.
Bring on a weekend of binge watching.

    Giddy up!

There was one for 6mths free - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/188232
May be expired, but someone used it successfully a week or so ago.

Personally, I tried Presto for about an hr, then went straight back to Netflix. Would rather pay than try to use the unwieldy & SD-only Presto for free.

      • -1

You need Telstra Tbox for 6months!

      • Cheers mate :)

    • +2

Presto is going to die a quick death if it stays SD only

    • They must be desperate

      • If these figures are anywhere near representative, there's a good reason to be desperate since Presto has been around for a while.

    • +4

I haven't watched a single program with my 6 month free subscription. Quality if appalling.

      • Ditto not only the quality but the lack of useful Apps

    • How does it compare to netflix in terms of the content that is on offer.

      • It doesn't compare

      • +1

It does have a couple of HBO shows which aren't available elsewhere, but otherwise Stan and Netflix are miles ahead.

  • ha, their website is written in Angular
