So we take a bite each ???

    • I'm not saving you any.

      • Maybe you can have the free chicken, and I'll take the pork roll…

        • The queue was short just before 2pm when I arrived. I only had to wait for 5mins. There were 3 servers.
The chicken roll was pretty good. Full size.
I left the pork one for you JV.

Đông Tảo - One of the most expensive types of chickens in VN. They are famous for their huge and strong legs. A big cock beautiful mature rooster may cost up to AU$ 1,500 or more.

      • o.O how rare is it. Also, one of the most, is it common to have chickens worth more than 1,000 AUD? I'm guessing locals never get to taste that as it's expensive af?

        • In the past, DONG TAO (DONG CAO) chickens were among rare foods such as bear, tiger, peacock, etc. that only royal families could afford to eat. Nowadays, they are raised in some barns across VN. A mature chicken can weigh up to 6kg and the meat is considered as highly nutritious and delicious (I haven't tried it yet, so no comment). Of course, the legs are the most precious parts as they're believed to contain the most nutrition out of a chicken.

One kg of DT chook costs around $20-30 (320k-480k VND) which is expensive in VN. Those that cost thousands $ are best-looking and healthiest ones and are kept to breed (or obviously for the wealthy families to show off).

  • Last time they had this offer, there was a minimum purchase ($2 from memory) and as hippy says, it was a half size roll. The $3 roll for the first 2 weeks is a good deal though.

Last time i got full size pork roll, completely free, no questions asked, no conditions, no matter you rich or poor.

The lady owner was friendly, although from my experience, avoid her serving you since she usually put very less carrots and veggie (they are expensive you know, and if you dare to ask more there usually will be 50 cents extra).

But please keep in mind that this was quite long time ago when they was on walker street. It is possible that they changed their mind after getting oz-bargained and only giving away half size roll. Who knows.

  • I'll be there at "11.59 am" to beat the crowd of hungry OzBargainers!

you kidding? A real OzBargainer will be there at 6am, with a Xiaomi powerbank charging their phone and eating a can of Campbells soup.
