Kmart Optus Nokia Lumia 530 (Locked to Optus) $29

1710

Saw this at my local Kmart store, pretty cheap imo. EDIT sorry, this was in Sunnybank Hills Kmart, 5+ stock when I was there.

Locked to Optus, if you activated the sim for less than 6 months, $80 unlocking fee applies. After 6 months its $25, however ebay unlocking options are available too.

As other members have suggested(thank you), this makes a great $29 GPS in your car. Simply download the offline Australian map into Here Drive(Nokia's Navigation software) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1k0r5YD9PQ

UPDATE: I was able to unlock my Lumia 530, I had a active $2 Optus SIM number(active for over 6 months) lying around so I emailed them and they gave me an unlocking code within 2 days. If you have any friends/family member that has a prepaid Optus SIM active for over 6 months, use their number and email them, I'm sure it'll work too.

  • I just went out and bought a super cheap old style mobile this morning because my S4 imploded. Wish I had held out for a day and see this.

    • You shoukd have had a look on ebay for a Huawei Y550, still a few for sale.

    • Imploded?

      • Over the course of two days it went from working perfectly to being in constant reboot. I can't think of a better term.

  • Nokias won 't have an equivalent to outpower huawei (y550) ~$100, no ?
I would consider netflix for 90.00 if optus promo a 5"phone.

Thanks OP, picked up 2 in Sydney (no $29 tag, but scanned correctly).

Woman working insisted on 1 per person despite their being no sale information available (there were 2 of us, we wanted 3 ffs)

1.2GHz Quadcore, for the that I adore
    512MB RAM, I assure you that isn't a scam
4GB internal, however, I assure to you, all the gigabytes in the world, can not store the love between us two :'-)

    • haha its perfect, hope she likes ;)

  • +1

Officeworks have these In store For $49, you can price match this if someone could kindly have a link to the catalogue or website to show Kmart nationwide.

  • You can't unlock for free actually. It's still $25 to unlock after 6 months.

  • Usually when I try to unlock a Optus locked phone on their unlocking site, in some cases I also get "This mobile device is not a locked Optus prepaid mobile device."

In my case, I met the requirements for unlocking as I have over $80 prepaid credit.

What I did was to contact Optus on Twitter about the above message when unlocking, then Optus would get me to send the IMEI to them via a contact form on their website and I would get a unlock code (or Optus would request such a code from the manufacturer which would take upto 15 days).

Thanks. Managed to buy a couple. My local K-Mart said they sold at least 100 this afternoon.

I've had this phone (paid $80 for it I think about 12 months ago) and on balance it has been decent - not the best screen, but for making calls (lo and behold, calls!!!) and the GPS and occasional internet use, it's been fine. While the current Windows is OK, I can't wait for the update, because one thing I don't like about the current Windows interface is you can't setup folders for your icons on the front screen, like you do for Android and IOS - I understand having a live tile means it's hard to make a folder of a few icons, but nice to have the option. Maybe the upcoming Windows will have this folder option.

My biggest problem with this phone lately is the apps cannot be updated due to lack of memory, as the "system" has used 3.6Gb of its 4Gb capacity. Despite all my apps being moved to the SD card and uninstalling other apps, there is no way to find out why the system is using 3.6Gb of its memory, and how to clear it. So I have a phone that can no longer have its apps updated (it needs about 700Mb space for an update).

All in all, after using this phone for a year, I'd have to say if you're expecting to use it at a high smartphone level beyond calls, email and occasional browsing and GPS (which is good), well you might be better off with an Android, as the apps there are so much more. Yeah don't get me started on the lack of apps for Windows - apparently that will change soon as Microsoft is now making it easier for developers to transfer existing iOS and Android apps to Windows. Only time will tell, but if you need a smartphone with good app access for the next 12 months and can't afford an iphone, go Android I'd say.

    • You can make folders on start screen btw. I am not sure whether it applies to 512MB Windows Phone as well though.

    • Mine has updated. And i get folders.

    • +1

Go to your settings/Storage sense and that will tell you what is being stored on your phone or SD card. You can move apps to and from the main memory or SD card. It's great!
And yes you can create folders

  • Can somebody tell about netflix 3 month free with this offer or not???

  • Thanks OP!

  • This phone is 3G 900/2100Mhz right ?

    No 850Mhz ?

    • yes. it has the same rom/WCDMA bands as Telstra-locked one.

  • thank you wombok2 no problem getting one at tweed south they have a few left anyone on the Gold Coast looking

  • Plenty @ Helensvale GC

    • Same at Robina on GC.

  • Officeworks Newcastle wouldn't price match as not catalogue special. No stock left in Newcastle at Kmart

    How about this site:
    http://www.unlock-code-store.com/
Is any one know if it's working?
    Thanks.

    • +2

Avoid it mate. It's a scam site. A few of us from here tried it out about 6 mths ago with this phone. Don't even bother

  • This scanned in at $89 at Kmart Burwood, NSW - but they have a couple in stock if you have time to argue the point.

    • +2

      $89 is nokia 532

  • Any one buy these in VIC? Might check it out at my local K-Mart tonight.

    • Barkly Square, Brunswick this morning.

      • Are they scanning at $29? or more

        • +1

          $29.

  • Picked one up from Victoria Gardens. Still a few left.

  • have anyone tried this to have it unlocked? I dont have a Lumia anyway https://vimeo.com/119973464

    • looks like not a free download. :(

  • so has anyone managed to successfully unlock (without paying large fees or meeting the 6 months requirement) ?

    • Yes Mate.. I had to pay $30.. Called up Optus and explained them that this is such a cheap mobile and they wanted me to recharge $30 and gave me the unlock code on the spot.. So it worked for $29 + $30 which is still decent for this Mobile

      • Ouch $30 is relatively expensive compared to the phone ($29)…..

        • True, but again this $30 is for me to spend on calls\txt and data right…

        • @smiles: was that $30 negotiated with Optus, or is that a standard offer in terms of recharge to get the unlock code?

        • @devpress: Yes, its negotiated with Optus

Bought 1 from kmart Launceston (3 left), phone unlocked out of box so I activated the sim online, is this all you need to do to get a Netflix code?

    • +1

      "phone unlocked out of box"

As in you could have put in an Aldi/telstra sim and it works?

      • +1

Sorry not unlocked…never take the word of your partner :/

  • I want to test Windows 10 on this phone without upgrading my primary phone. Would this be a suitable Lumia?

    • +1

Not really as many people have said than Win 10 will struggle with 512Mb RAM, even though Microsoft will probably release the update to this phone. Better to get a phone with 1Gb RAM, cheapest one currently available is the Lumia 532 (as far as I know).

      • +1

Agreed, I think 1GB will become the new low for the Windows Phone. Though MS have said that they would release a forked version of Windows Mobile 10 for 512MB phones.

        • Thanks for your replies

      • +1

I imagine once stock is sold out of the 530, the 532 will be on special every second week at $40-50. It's a nice phone for that price, it's a nice improvement over the 530 in every respect. Having double tap to wake, glance and 1gb of ram is nice for a budget phone.

        • Is the display any better on the 532 or just the same?

        • @pufffdragon:

It's better, but still crap. :(

  • There were 3 left at casula nsw after I bought one at around 4pm

  • Is there any cheap way to unlock this phone?
Just bought one for the sake of netflix..
But want to give phone to my old man…

  • Price matched the last one at Officeworks on Adelaide St, Brisbane šŸ™Œ

    • Dude, I went to Officeworks yesterday, to get one without price match. They said they're out of stock.Well, I still got one from Kmart anyway, much better than spending 49$. Do u know how to unlock this phone and get 3 months netflix?

      • Aw man! He dug right down the back of the shelf to find it.

I'm not sure about unlocking but all you have to do to get the 3 months Netflix is activate the SIM and wait a few days for an email/SMS

  • This would have been a very good deal if unlocked or unlocking was not min $19 dollars

  • Thanks OP just got the last two from Kmart hurstville

  • just got one from parramatta, there were like 10+ remaining

  • just got one from Kmart Fountain gate in Vic
    Still had about 10 left
Asked for two but got the "only one per customer" speil, so i asked to see the "documentation on that"
low and behold the kmart persons shows me a bit of paper with conditions of sale, interesting that there is no restriction on "unlocked" phones, only carrier locked ones…go figure.

    • That is weird. I reserved for 3 and my wife picked it up no issues. She eventually paid for 2 because it wasn't classy enough for her!

  • I can get IMEI unlock code from link provided earlier in this thread for one of two phones I bought. For the other I got this message "This mobile device is not a locked Optus prepaid mobile device". Maybe it came unlocked. Will try after kids go to bed.

    • i got the same message.. and it worked with Virgin sim…
But tried Aldi and its Locked

    • Yeah, successfully unlocked one of two with freebie IMEI unlock code.

    • i tried Telstra sim card in it and apparantely it is locked. :(

Has anyone unlocked this phone yet?
Has anyone contacted Optus regarding withdrawing fee free unlocking?

I unlocked mine without any issues

The real magic happens in that you can unlock it for free here:

      https://secure-unlock.com.au/ou/launch

      • I went through that. It came up saying this error "This mobile device is not a locked Optus prepaid mobile device"

My new Optus mobile is not locked to Optus?.

  • Sigh. didn't get one, Airport West, VIC. A staff member was stocking the same aisle where they were. I asked him if they had any and he said "Someone must have bought them all" with a blank face. WTF! I bet it was him.

  • Hi Guys managed to get Harvey to price match!! picked up 2 from there took them home activated them and unlocked both via the optus website (No cost to unlock)..

    • Can you scan and post your receipt here? Or any tips on how to get them to price patch?

      • just showed the pic to the due at Harvey and he said no worries how many you want.
will upload tonight if you like

        • which HN store?

  • Yay, i lost my phone some months ago. Now is a good time to replace it.Thx op

  • +2

To everyone that has issues unlocking. Use this chat http://www.optus.com.au/shop/notices/service-chat and see if you can get it unlocked. I haven't :( the guy said that Nokia phones can only be unlocked after 30 days, so I'm thinking my phone is a newer batch (?).

    Anyways, some hints for the chat;

    • Activate your sim if you don't have a current optus service, this won't make them brush you off (I made the mistake of mentioning I was with Amaysim and they told me they could unlock it, which they couldn't)
    • If you put in a non optus sim it'll say "This device is locked to a specific mobile operator. Contact your mobile operator for the unlock code"
    • If they say Nokia can unlock it, say you called them and they said all the locking was done by optus

Good luck guys, tell me how you go.

    • Optus chat told me I do not have to pay for a prepaid plan, just activate the SIM and wait 1 month before unlocking.

    • I contacted them twice, both times they told me I could unlock after 1 month, but I'd need to pay $80. Did they tell you the unlocking would be free?

      • +1

They didn't mention. But since everyone elses was free I think it should be the same for us. If it ain't, mention that you know people who got a free unlock.

    • buddy, I had a call with optus and got it immediately unlocked but they wanted me to recharge for $30.. Phone is 1 day old and its now unlocked.. :-)

      • What number did you call? Did you try the online unlock first?

        • +1

Well, when I tried the online unlock, it said, this phone is not locked by Optus, so I used a vodafone SIM and it shouted on me -" Your phone is locked to Optus" and I called optus and got the unlock code.. cant remember the number.. check here: https://optus.intelliresponse.com/

        • @smiles: It worked! Thanks a bunch šŸ™‹
