Kmart Optus Nokia Lumia 530 (Locked to Optus) $29

1710

Saw this at my local Kmart store, pretty cheap imo. EDIT sorry, this was in Sunnybank Hills Kmart, 5+ stock when I was there.

Locked to Optus, if you activated the sim for less than 6 months, $80 unlocking fee applies. After 6 months its $25, however ebay unlocking options are available too.

As other members have suggested(thank you), this makes a great $29 GPS in your car. Simply download the offline Australian map into Here Drive(Nokia's Navigation software) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1k0r5YD9PQ

UPDATE: I was able to unlock my Lumia 530, I had a active $2 Optus SIM number(active for over 6 months) lying around so I emailed them and they gave me an unlocking code within 2 days. If you have any friends/family member that has a prepaid Optus SIM active for over 6 months, use their number and email them, I'm sure it'll work too.

        • @StevenC96: Actually, I just called sales (1800 780 219) and got redirected to customer service

  • Already chat on the website with optus stated wait for one month because its new service and then they will be able to unlock it …….

24 hours since activation and no Netflix code yet :/

    Edit: just arrived :)

    • One of mine took around 1 week.

      • Find a friend who has a optus pre paid or post paid and use their details to unlock.
They can get the key straight away. Just done one that way
It seems they do not check who brought the mobile
And tell them you are going overseas so you will need unlocked

  • I brought 2 of from Kmart Mandurah - still had a few more in stock (first store I tried had none).

Any idea if I can use 2 netflix codes on one account to get 6 months total?

Successfully got Windows 10 installed on one of them. Was pretty tricky with only 4GB - had to remove preinstalled apps like Nokia Drive and Facebook after it failed due to space issues.

For Windows 10? Just download Windows Insider on the phone and sign up it. For the instructions. Will update to Denim, then Windows 10. So far I'm liking the changes, though definately not stable enough for final release yet (but better than I expected).

        • @oak: Thanks Oak

  • Picked up 1 this morning from Kmart Rockhampton QLD. After I bought mine there were 3 left behind the glass cabinet. Don't know how many is left right now. $29 + 2% cash back through ING Direct Visa paywave rebate in my opinion is a bargain.

Heaps at Townsville Kmart picked one up yesterday as I needed a usb charger. And thought its a cheap deal for netflix

    • I got one from there. They didn't have a sticker. But it scanned 29$

      • Yep not advertised

  • has anyone recently unlocked the phone successfully online? I have been trying even after activating it says "this device is not a locked optus device"

    • Yeah I got that message too. I took the message as to meaning the mobile phone is already unlocked. I'll soon try my new Boost Mobile SIM card that i just bought (tried my old Virgin Mobile standard SIM and wondered why it wouldn't fit but turns out the Nokia Lumia 530 uses Micro SIM) to see if it's working unlocked out of the box if the SIM activation gets through.

Wonder if some are from old manufactured batches that Optus has already unlocked.

      • +1

An update on this. Just tried my Boost Mobile micro SIM and it's saying that the device is locked to a specific mobile operator.

Looks like Optus themselves have blocked activating these mobile phones out of the box for free. Now searching the internet for a paid unlock code service.

Edit: Found this mobile phone unlocking service which unlocks Optus Nokia Lumia 530 for $5.99 AUD. Will see how it goes.

They can't unlock it, but they will refund. They just want your name and email address if you pay via paypal.

        • @ddhytz:

          Thanks. That's unfortunate.

        • @ddhytz:

Still waiting for a refund from unlock-code-store.com to be issued. How long do they take?.

        • +1

@hollykryten: Don't bother waiting for them. This is how they play. They ignore your email for request of refund and most people let it go because it's such a small amount. Win for them, lose for you.

Go straight through Paypal and request a refund from there. You will get your money back quicker that way.

    • I did it on one of two phones.

  • Hi

I'm Benjamin from Unlock Code Store. Our system was unable to automatically generate an unlock code for your particular mobile. The good news is this doesn't mean we cant unlock it for you, it just means we need to get some extra information. With this information I will be able to manually calculating a code to unlock your phone.

This is what I have just received.

    • What info did they want?

      • I had to tell them if it's a new phone and reconfirm imei

        • Wonder if you will get a working unlock code?.

    • I too just got that email this morning. I'll probably end up getting a refund.

    Tpg sim works

    • Did you unlock your Lumia 530?.

Boost Mobile sim here (uses the Telstra network) and doesn't work. Says phone is locked to a mobile operator.

Edit: interesting I just noticed that TPG mobile uses the Optus mobile network. Maybe that's why your TPG sim is working.

  • Haven't got unlock code yet paid 5.99 via PayPal. Hope will get it by tomorrow. Will update

    • I paid $5.99 too from Unlock Code Store. Only email I've got so far was just the order confirmation email.

      • Same here but they can not unlock the device and promised money will be returned

        • Well that was a waste of time then.

That site is bogus mate. Only good thing is, if you paid via paypal you can get a refund. A few of us here got stung by them a few months back. Avoid

  • Personally I find my HTC HD7 smartphone seems much better quality than the Nokia Lumia 530 then again it was only $29. I only just bought the HTC last week too.

I guess the Lumia 530 is good as a backup phone.

    • Which bargain was that?

      • If you mean HTC HD7. None. I bought it as a one off via eBay.

  • Picked up one from KMart Belconnen (Canberra) this morning - still at least 9 more in the glass display cabinet

My Optus Lumia 530 is still locked and i just tried an amaysim SIM card and it worked. It seems any SIM card which directly runs through the Optus mobile network will work. Amaysim is one of them. Virgin Mobile and TPG Mobile are other ones.

In other words this mobile phone is not locked to Optus itself but to the Optus mobile network. As long as the SIM card runs through the Optus mobile network it should work even when the phone is still carrier locked.

So more choice than Optus themselves there's the third party mobile companies which use the Optus mobile network to choose from. I personally have switched over to amaysim and using on my new Optus Nokia Lumia 530 no worries.

In any case those buggers over at unlock-code-store.com couldn't supply an unlock code but doesn't matter now.

    • amaysim works because it's a rebranded Optus sim on the Optus network.

  • Guys you must know someone who is on optus prepaid. then ring optus and get unlock in 3 minutes using their details. They never ask where it was purchased and by who. Just say you going overseas with it.
Better than mucking around with codes that might not work.

  • I've got a problem with mine. On voice calls I get a 1 second echo of my voice back to me. It's extremely annoying. I'm not using speaker phone. The person I'm calling doesn't hear it.

Any ideas how to fix it? Or did I get a dud phone?

    • Have you updated the phone to Windows Phone 8.1 update?. I did that yesterday.

Also check the sound settings. You might have a echo turned on in the sound.

      • Have you updated the phone to Windows Phone 8.1 update?

Yes, the phone did that automatically.

Also check the sound settings. You might have a echo turned on in the sound.

I can't find any "echo" setting. I've looked everywhere that I can think of. I goggled and couldn't find anything with "echo" and Lumia 530. Nothing in the user guide under "echo". I've also posted to several other forums with not a single reply.

Peoples. If you have one of these Optus Nokia Lumia 530 and hadn't got it unlocked. You don't need to use Optus themselves. Go and grab an amaysim micro-SIM and insert it into the phone. Works great because it's an rebranded Optus SIM card on the Optus mobile network but through amaysim. It's what I did. I reckon amaysim has better plans than Optus themselves.

As I said before the phones are locked to the Optus mobile network and any phone company directly using rebranded Optus sim card will work just fine (amaysim being one of them).

  • I purchased this just to use as a cheap MP3 in the car. Works well. I went back to buy one for my wife. All gone. Any ideas for a cheap replacement alternative?

  • Anyone got their Netflix code yet? I purchased it on the date the bargain posted. Strange

    • Still no netflix code for me yet

    • I bought mine mid last week, code arrived about a day after activation

      • Did the Netflix code arrive via email?.

        • SMS link to a webpage that generates the code. Have you put the SIM in your phone yet?

        • @deeevan:

Damn thought it would be coming through email. I since switched to amaysim and threw the Optus SIM out. Oh well no Netflix for me. Never mind.

    • Bought last week, activated Optus sim last week, no netflix code yet.

    • Strange… I did it with ZTE f286 and it took me couple days for Optus to send me the Netflix Code.
Perhaps too many people bought this phone and we're in the really hectic queque

  • Just bought one at K-Mart in Belconnen, ACT. Still have a few in stock!

5 days later and i'm still waiting for a refund for an unlock code for this Optus Lumia 530 which they fail to deliver from unlock-code-store.com to be issued. Starting a Paypal dispute soon.

Edit: started the initial Paypal dispute resolution screen but had a message in it saying an instant refund was available via http://www.theunlockdepot.com/refund and all I had to do was enter my email address and have it processed. Got my $5.99 back in Paypal within a minute. Geez why couldn't they just have told me that in the original email. They make you wait until you get into the Paypal resolution centre to be told about that.

So all those that paid by Paypal and may be still waiting for a refund from unlock-code-store.com after being told they couldn't supply an unlock code for these Optus Nokia Lumia 530. Go straight to http://www.theunlockdepot.com/refund and request an instant Paypal refund through your email address used to make the Paypal payment.

  • New stock arrived in many stores just told by REP
just bought one more in Parramatta

  • 20+ in stock in ACT! Now just need to find a cheap Micro SD card to get it going.

  • What I find disappointing is that MS have not even included a US transfer cable with the phone!

    • Not US but USB!!

      • That's a pretty small gripe for a phone which is essential free when you count netflix. You can buy a cable for a few cents - not worth complaining about

        • When was the last time you bought a phone that did not come with all the required cable except this one? Where do you get the cable for a few cents? If you have to spend more to justify a purchase then better put it up in the price tag! Against OZB spirit.

        • @some_one_some_where:

Almost no phones come with extra cables - they just come with a charger. In some instances, the charger uses a USB cable, others it doesnt.

I've gotten cables from other ozbargain finds for a few cents previously. A practically free phone is in the OZB spirit :)

        • @oak: Yes the ones that you are buying are surely not coming with any cables let alone extra cables. But you are right windows O/S is not for everyone! It may be free for and not for everyone.

Out of box this phone cannot get a single map as it has used 2.5 gig of 4 gig available space. MS what a joke! Should have read some reviews before I wasted my money! If anyone is considering buying this phone the minimum initial cost is = phone cost + memory card. Without a memory card it cannot even work like a GPS/media player/anything. Bye bye MS never again.

    • If you have netflix, after using the code, the phone is effectively free.

You can put a few games on it for kids, or keep as spare phone.
You get a phone with a modern OS that runs well (unlike cheap android phones)

If you want to use as a GPS with offline maps, or a heaps of songs - yes you need to buy a SD card.

Seriously, people are just looking for reason to complain :/

Woolworths have the 532 with an extra 4 GB for $10 more - but no free netflix since it's on Telstra. Maybe thats better for you

      • Well at least Android OS has got easier functionality to allow it more user customisation! This OS is horrible! And I have been and still am a Nokia 'Symbian' user and it has been killed by MS. So I know what I am complaining about.

        • Symbian and Windows OS have nothing in common. Many people like Windows Phone, and prefer it to iOS and/or Android. It's more customizable than iOS, but not as much as Android. If you think it's horrible, you probably don't understand the Live tile idea - which is fine, it's not for everyone. Personally I've been using Windows Phones for a few years now and much prefer it either Android or iOS (which I still use on other devices) - but that's just my preference.

    • I've downloaded HERE Maps and the full Australian map on the internal 4GB memory. It's seriously the best and most simple GPS maps app I've ever used. This phone is perfect for it. Memory cards are so cheap now it's not even worth kicking up a stink if you really need one.

    • Install Windows Phone Recovery Tool from here http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/preview-backup-re… .

It can install the latest software and free more space (more than 1 GB) for you.

  • Just got 2 from Midland WA store. Heaps in stock both in the cabinet and behind the counter :) Cheers OP!

  • Does anyone know how to claim free Netflix? Bought phone on Sun, activated it with $10 recharge, 4 days now and still no Netflix

    • No need to recharge. Got the url smsed about 14hrs after activation

    • I activated the SIM on the daily $2 plan, 24 hours later I received an SMS with the voucher claim link.

Link took me to an Optus Netflix page where you immediately get the Netflix code. Entered code on Netflix website and set up account (took a minute, if that), then watched a documentary on Felix Baumgartner's Stratos jump.

  • Kmart still has these. Just picked up another Optus Nokia Lumia 530 for $29 and a Optus Sony Xperia E1 smartphone for $49 (cheapest price on the Optus Xperia E1 i can find) both at Kmart.

Dick Smith also has the Optus Nokia Lumia 530 for $29 but Kmart still had some left in stock.

    • Entered the IMEI of my brand new Optus Sony Xperia E1 bought from Kmart into https://secure-unlock.com.au/ou/launch to see if it would recognise the IMEI and it spat out a network unlock code for free which the code successfully unlocked the phone. It now works with my Lycamobile SIM. An unlocked Sony Xperia E1 for $49 is not a bad deal.

For everyone who got Error "This mobile device is not a locked Optus prepaid mobile device.", you need to get the unlock code from Optus directly. I spent 2 days trying to get it unlocked (eBay etc, none of them can do it!!). You DONT need to activate the SIM card that comes with it to see if you can unlock it. Don't open the package until you get your Unlock code from https://secure-unlock.com.au/ou/launch (unless if you want to use it on Optus network, but then again, in the future it's still a hassle if you decided to change provider!). So if you get "This mobile device is not a locked Optus prepaid mobile device.", you might wanna return / exchange it, to save you all the trouble! So keep the receipt. If it can be unlocked for free, you will get the Unlock Code from https://secure-unlock.com.au/ou/launch

But, if you're like me : opened the packet and then realise it can't be unlocked, then you have to contact Optus. Most of Optus customer service won't (or can't) do it for you, so you need to get to the right department, which is the TECH DEPARTMENT. Since you already opened the packet anyway, you HAVE TO activate the SIM card that comes with the phone. The Tech Department will ask for this and it needs to match the details that you will be giving them. So the keypoint is : the person who activate the SIM card that comes with the phone, is the only one who can request the unlock.

I bought two phones from Kmart and one of them can get it unlocked from the https://secure-unlock.com.au/ou/launch, but the other one won't. So I went to Optus live chat only to be told variety of excuses : need to pay 80, need to pay 25, need to open ticket online, need to go in store (each cs had different answers). One of the cs finally said she will transfer me to the TECH DEPARTMENT and they asked for my details, SIM number, and IMEI. And 2 minutes later, they replied with my unlock code :)

    Good luck!

Note : I'm not with Optus, so I didn't have any 6 months old active Optus number. Just the SIM card that comes with the phone.

    • You don't have to use an Optus sim card itself with these locked Optus Lumia 530. An amaysim SIM card will work fine. I know because i'm using an amaysim SIM card (they are a rebranded Optus sim card configured for amaysim) with one of these locked Optus Lumia 530. These phones are by default locked to the Optus mobile network.

So for those buying these Optus Lumia 530 from Kmart or Dick Smith i also suggest grabbing one of those $2 amaysim micro SIM packs off the shelf if you don't want to use the included Optus SIM card itself.

    • So far I've bought two Optus Lumia 530 from Kmart and one from Dick Smith and none of them are recognised on the online Optus mobile unlocker. You would have thought at least one of them are recognised. I'd reckon both Kmart and Dick Smith recently got in a brand new manufactured stock that isn't yet recognised by the online Optus mobile unlocker. But I couldn't be bothered hitting up the Optus live chat and be going around in circles as at least the phones out of the box work with amaysim SIM cards which is fine and dandy.

    • +1

Thanks for the advice. This worked well. My online unlock didn't work but I called 131344 and selected Mobile->Tech Support and asked for the Tech Department. I told them that I tried their online service but it didn't work - "An error has occurred. Please return to the beginning to restart the unlock process."

They asked me for my IMEI and then gave me the code and a long set of instructions which don't work. However, rebooting the phone with a foreign SIM in works easily - you enter in the code, hit return and you're done.

      Free!

  • I got mine unlocked by calling 131344 chose mobile then puk unlock and they unlocked it for free.

    • +1

Hangon i think you're mistaken as all a puk unlock does is unlock and reset the personal identification number (PIN) on the SIM card and has nothing to do with network unlocking the phone itself. Your phone is not network unlocked. Major difference between PUK unlocking and network unlocking.

I suggest you read this web page: http://www.geeksquad.co.uk/articles/Mobiles/2012/04/how_to_f…

      • Yeah should of said that I just said to him I might be the wrong place lol.
PS is network unlocked now can put Telstra sim in

Has anyone try if this unlock method works? https://vimeo.com/119973464

Download an unknown-authored program from an unknown source, install it on your computer and run it? What could possibly go wrong.

(Answer: a lot could go wrong.)

      • Set up an oracle virtual box.. with windows xp with 30gig HDD space. install the virtual box add-on that lets you use USB devices in your virtual xp. Make a copy whole VHD.

Pretty much install the stuff you need and when your delete the VHD and rename your copied VHD.

Anyway I stopped using my Nokia 530 its been switched off for months. Was supposed to build windows apps but don't want to upgrade to windows 8.1 (makes me wonder if i can run windows 8.1 virtual box from windows 7)
