I'm still waiting on my K3 Note from the last deal and it was $50 more expensive.. I'm not happy.

    • True dat.
Well, $30 more expensive (157), in USD. Apparently mine has shipped recently. But if $126, it is a good deal.

      • Yeah I meant AUD, my last one was $212, Google says this is about $162 AUD. I'm considering just buying one of these and putting it on eBay so I don't feel so ripped off. The 60 day delivery is a bit off-putting though =/

Anybody have experience with this site?

        • +1

It's $169AUD with PayPal exchange rate and fees.

    • At least the k3 made your name and mood matched .. :-)..Cheers mate ..Thats an ozbargainers fate..these guys will make us buy something believing its the best deal ever and if we miss it-the world is goanna end..but 2 days later another guy will come up with a better bargain to make us all fell guilty or for a true ozbagainer ..to make him spend again.. for something which he already have or doesn't need.. :-)

  • did some research on some Chinese website, they all agree that this phone worth the price, most of the cons were focused on the poor screen and poor performance of the system

  • had a lenovo phone a couple of years ago. loved the phone, except it was loaded with a slightly different version of android and the gps wouldnt work. it was missing some aussie network bands, so look out for that, too

    • Most of Lenovo phones a few years back all used the MTK (MediaTek) chipsets, they were the budget option in mobile SoC's (every chinese phone brand you can think of used MediaTek) and the weak GPS is actually a well known issue.

      • +1

The GPS outright didn't work. I didn't bother tinkering with it too much… I'm guessing it had something to do with Google, as google is banned in china. The good thing was that it came rooted as it had a custom rom on it. china phones are great for people willing to spend time fixing little issues like that to save a few bucks.

    • Seems to have been fixed from MT6592 onwards. I personally have a Lenovo P70 with a MT6752 and the GPS is absolutely fine. My friends Bluboo X550 with MT6735 is also fine. I think you'll also find that there are no complaints about GPS on any recent Mediatek chipsets

      • Wow had no idea it was a problem with the chipset. Cheers

      • Hi pseudobacon, could you give some feedback about the Bluboo X550, I have been looking at getting one but there aren't many 'legitimate' reviews around! :D
I'd appreciate your (or your friend's) input!

        Cheers

        • +3

Thanks for the shout out. First of all, its actually quite well built. And weirdly enough it uses a full size SIM slot for SIM1. As usual, SIM2 only supports 2G (I've never had any luck getting 3G on a second SIM card, and I have tried a V967S, P70, P6000 and X550 now. The screen is also very good. The ROM is basically stock, and runs like a champ

Look closer though and it using an MT6735P chip clocked at 1Ghz, instead of the normal MT6735 chip that we all thought we were getting when we preordered meaning this phone in Antutu performs roughly the same, probably a bit better than Snapdragon 400 powered phones (e.g. Redmi Note 4G). But for general use I couldn't tell, and I doubt anyone could tell the difference between a phone scoring 20k and 70k in Antutu whilst swiping through menus. I think after the HTC One M7 (Snapdragon 600) we're well past the point of laggy home screens

It is a real shame they didn't use the tried and tested MT6752 though, I suspect there isn't much price difference when these chips are ordered en masse. This does become a problem with games though, since Mediatek GPUs have historically been weaker than Qualcomm counterparts. So if you want to game on this phone, forget it

On to probably the most attractive aspect of this phone - the battery. I can't really confirm whether or not the battery is epic because my friend has been having some trouble with music players locking up when playing music off SD card. (I'm getting him to test off internal memory). This obviously resets the battery stats in GSam Battery Monitor. If you follow this forum thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/bluboo-x550-… a couple of other people reported similar issues, but people have been reporting this on other phones running Lollipop as well so I'm not sure if its a hardware problem. Fingers crossed its software. There was also a software update recently which I haven't had any feedback on yet

What I can say though is that my P70 with a 4000mah battery has ridiculously good battery life, and I suspect with 4 less cores, lower clockspeed and an even bigger battery the X550 should fare even better. I'm able to get consistently 4+ hours screen on time everyday. Never had to charge my phone at work since getting this phone

Whilst we're still on the battery (I guess this is really the only specification that I care about) the X550 should be able to charge at 2A with Mediatek's Express Pump technology. Some people apparently only got the standard charger instead of the turbo charger (I use an Anker charger that can do 2.4A on each port, so I don't really care). My P70 also has this technology, but when I measured it using a Legion Battery Meter it was closer to around 1.5A-1.75A instead of 2A out of my Anker charger. Not that it really matters too much, but its certainly pretty quick

Other things - camera seemed okay to me. I use a SLR and think all camera phones are shit anyway. It's not fantastic, but not poor. (I'll get around to finding out exactly what it is one day). The one in the P70 (OV something) is definitely poor. The one in the P6000 (should be IMX219) is not bad

Speaker - don't really care about this either so I don't bother testing it as such

        • +1

@pseudobacon: wow that was much more comprehensive than what I was expecting! Thanks a lot pseudobacon!!!! Much appreciated.
Based on this I'm probably better off skipping this phone. I have a THL 4000 atm, can't fault it when it comes to battery life, averages to about 6 hours SoT using two sim cards. What I hate on this phone though is down right useless camera, unless you're in a super bright environment the fps drops to 15fps or so, the flash led they decided to put on this phone is laughable it lights on a single small point, pair that with the shitty low light performance and it makes things even worse. The sub par audio jack is another major let down, the audio output on headphone is really poor! I can't get any low or mid range out of it…
I'm overall satisfied with the performance, as it serves its purpose.
One of the best things about the phone is how cool it runs, I can connect to 3G and use GPS while browsing the web and it still won't get hot (my two last phones would be extremely hot to a point were I couldn't use them at all, HTC One X and LG G2).
Considering X550 is running such a low frequency CPU, how is the temperature on it? What would you say about the headphone output? And is the camera usable in less less than super bright rooms?

        • +2

@OpayuOnam: THL 4000 uses a MT6582, so I would suspect the camera performance is suffering because of this. The MT6735, whilst slow, is still a fair bit faster and probably what I would call bare minimum (I find the Snapdragon 410 in the Coolpad F1 usable, anything slower drives me nuts). I only tried the camera briefly on the X550 and like I said it seemed alright. But definitely no lag with the on screen viewfinder, unless you're talking about video mode which I also haven't tried haha

But yes out of all the Mediatek phones I've tried they all run very cool. I was just playing with a Note 4 a couple of days ago, setting it up and boy did it heat up. I've never felt my P70 heat up

Headphone jack, I have some problems with my P70 its a bit noisy but that didn't seem to be a problem with any of the other Mediatek phones that I have tried. I haven't tried the X550 headphone jack either so I can't really comment on that

        • @pseudobacon: The 6582 does the trick for me, it is reasonably responsive.
Now as for mtk being cool, I've had my fair share of trouble with 6592s the work like heaters!!! Lol even worse than snapdragon 800.

@pseudobacon: Really appreciate the effort in your post! Thanks for the details!

    • I am using my Lenovo S920 for more then 1 year already and would say its value for money.

  • Pay USD14 to get DHL delivered.

    • +1

Still says 60days even if you choose DHL and pay the $14USD.

  • Can anyone confirm if the 3G/4G bands will work in Australia.

    • +1

pretty sure theyll work fine from the other major K3 Note deal that everyone hooked into.

      • +1

Not going by what they have on their specs list.

        3G TD-SCDMA 2010-2025/1880-1920MHz

        • +2

4G bands that this phone can utilise-

          2600MHz (B7) Optus, Telstra.
2300MHz (B40) – Optus (Vivid wireless spectrum), NBN

          Good news is 2G GSM
          900MHz Telstra, Optus & Vodafone
1800MHz (Telstra, Optus & Vodafone all use this band for 4G instead)

Interestingly the 2G/3G/4G bands for this particular phone appear to be different from those of the previous Gearbest K3 Note post.

          This K3 Note phone :
          2G GSM 900/1800/1900MHz
          3G TD-SCDMA 2010-2025/1880-1920MHz
          4G TDD-LTE 2570-2620/1880-1920/2300-2400MHz

          Previous K3 note from gearbest:
          2G: GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz
          3G:WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100MHz
          4G:FDD-LTE 1800/2100/2600MHz

        • +1

@altomic: The bottom one is the T50-T5 model which has the right frequencies. Usually these kind of phones come with W in the model name indicating Unicom support which uses bands the rest of the world uses (i.e. not TSCDMA)

        • +1

@pseudobacon: so don't buy this one then?

        • +1

@spy: Don't buy this one. If you want it you can buy it from Aliexpress but its around 165 USD. It's cheaper on Taobao but you need to either know you to buy it from Taobao directly or get an agent to do it for you

        • @pseudobacon: ta bud!

        • +1

          @pseudobacon:

          It says

          2G GSM 900/1800/1900MHz
          3G TD-SCDMA 2010-2025/1880-1920MHz WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100MHz
          4G TDD-LTE 2570-2620/1880-1920/2300-2400MHz FDD-LTE(B1/B3/B7)

So WCDMA is in there. I think you're spreading incorrect infomration.

        • @raven2000:

Its the same phone as Gearbest. Its a Lenovo K3 Note (K50-T5)

  • +2

I'm very happy with the K3, even though I paid more than this deal (GearBest approx $210 express delivered iirc). Don't know whether this shipment will be pre-loaded with the absolute gob-loads of shite, dodgy apps and bloatware that mine was; if not it's an even better deal.

  • K3 or RedMi ?

  • Jd.com?
Never heard of em even though they are big in China.
    Experiences?

    • Same, never heard if it and I've been buying stuff from China sites for nearly 10 years. But when a country had a population greater than a billion people……

      • +1

JD or jindong is actually one of the largest online retailers in China. I actually bought my tablet through them and it went through fine and it arrived in two days (when I was in China that is.) It's mainly been focused on the domestic market though. Until recently it seems? Reminds me a bit of when VANCL used to sell clothes internationally then they shut down the English store and only focus on domestic.

        • love VANCL. inexpensive but relatively good quality. reminds me of uniglo.

need to check out JD then.

    • It is quite well known site in China.

    • Asked my friends and yeah they confirmed it's huge company and well known in china. I actually heard of the Chinese name 京东,didn't realize JD was the English version. Interesting note, the boss and his gf apparently just bought an exclusive penthouse at the Rocks in Sydney. Was reported in the local news recently.

    • Yes, Some rumour said JD (JingDong) boss bought a 16.2M penthouse at The Rocks a week ago. I suppose he may also thinking to build an online retail business in OZ? :)

  • Ignore

  • +3

jd is a big online retailer in China, famous as alibaba/taobao

K3 note is a good one. at this price, I will buy.

  • Does it work on Aldi prepaid network?

    • The phones are network unlocked so should work on any network.

      • +2

This is not the correct model. It will not work as it doesn't have WCDMA bands

  • and i just per-order the ELEPHONE P8000

    • +1

Based on what? Hopefully not the look and reviews of the P7000. Did you see the bend test - wow, not good!

      • Probably based on the battery capacity it claming to offer. Well let's hope it's a real
4050mah. :) I had a Lenovo A850+ in the past and no single problem with it, so I trust Lenovo, they also make the best laptops imo. :D K3 Note itself has a pretty good battery, I read a review somewhere and the only con they highlighted was the bit average camera.

  • Mine apparently shipped from GearBest yesterday after exactly one week.
So I should have it in my hot hands by the end of next week if not earlier.
60 days wait?? pft, I'd rather pay an extra $50.
The Helios X10 will be $200 by the time this is delivered.

    • 30-60 days is the standard China Post delivery time, the goods actually arrive for about 20 days. Not bad for free and no custom charges shipping. Don't tell me that Gearbest don't delay many shippings for over a month. :D

    • +1

I know it says 60days but I've just got an email saying its shipped and should arrived in less than 2 weeks.

Just flash the AOSP v3 ROM, this phone is not for people that want everything ready out of the box.

If you know how to flash ROM it is a very good phone.

      http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2393953&p…

    • If its just the included apps you can just use Titanium Backup and uninstall them

      • You need to root it first.

        • So what, you can't root it? Or you want to keep the warranty which is full bullshit when it comes to China stores.

  • +1

They quote some strange 3G network bands.
You sure this isn't some special version just for the Russians?

    • Definitely not the same version. I wouldn't touch it as it's missing a lot of the network bands the other supports.

  • +1

    Be careful.

    3G: TD-SCDMA 2010-2025/1880-1920MHz (china tel)
    4G: TDD-LTE 2570-2620/1880-1920/2300-2400MHz (chinatel)

Even they said both here but I don't think a phone can have both.

    http://www.chinasmartphonereview.com/lenovo-lemo-k3-note-pow…

  • Considering Ulefone Be Touch 2 on pre order or maybe mlais m7. The phone in this deal doesn't have the right bands by the look of it. If you want a K3 Note buy from Australian seller on eBay mentioned in other thread imo.

  • Damn bought the Elephone just recently… should of waited for this.

  • Goddammit~! I bought this phone from Gearbest yesterday.
Not happy but oh well…..the delivery time by JD does put me off though.

    • +1

dont worry, the frequency may be different in this version

  • Damn you ozbargain, just bought one. The paypal transaction went a bit sideways, but lets see how I go…

    • Now I dont know if it will work on Oz spectrum. Damn you again ozbargain!

      • You can ask for cancellation….

  • Delivery is 60 days, you cannot claim PayPal after this can you?

    • Yes you can, his why would you buy this given the lack of AU bands support?

  • +3

Looks like the page has been updated?

    Cellular and wireless Supports 4G(TDD-LTE FDD-LTE)3G(TD-SCDMA WCDMA)and 2G(GSM) networks

    2G GSM 900/1800/1900MHz
    3G TD-SCDMA 2010-2025/1880-1920MHz WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100MHz
    4G TDD-LTE 2570-2620/1880-1920/2300-2400MHz FDD-LTE(B1/B3/B7)

I don't remember it showing FDD-LTE or WCDMA bands this morning. B1/B3/B7 are 1800/2100/2600 which are the same as listed on GearBest. So maybe this phone is good after all?

    • Good spotting there AngryAlfred, thanks for adding this all important info.

    • We really need someone to confirm these frequencies so we can get a 3G at least in Europe in US. :/
I think I would talk to their customer support and will let you know guys how it's going.

      • +1

I messaged them yesterday, I got told to look at the product page for details =/
I said yes but have you updated the page, does the phone work on both TDD/FDD? They never responded…

        • Man let us coz if its good then I might buy it…

        • +1

The same answer to me! I looks their customer support in a plain shit as most of the chinese sites..:/

  • This seems similar, has retina id scan and cheaper http://en.jd.com/product/Original-TCL-3S-M3G-4G-LTE-Cell-Pho…

What peoples thoughts on the TCL 3S M3G?

    • Are you sure the 4G is compatible here? A lot of phone from China may not work here.

      • I am not aware any of them do for sure, but isnt it the same as the lenovo one anyway?

        • I am not familiar all those bands.

BTW, this phone is 5" not 5.5" like lenovo.

    • +1

That actually looks really good to me, 8MP front camera is something you don't see often out of China. What we can take from that listing is that is says specifically "18 Frequency Bands For Your Choice" which means it does do both TDD-LTE/FDD-LTE so the Lenovo must as well, and it has Wi-Fi ac/b/g/n. Too much bang for your buck in the China market, I kind of want them all.

    • I saw on the secs on one site thats its a sony camera.

    • Looks like an s5 knock off but impressive features. Wondering if the bands are supported in AU

  • very nice price, comparable to lesser brands with the same specs.

  • anyone know if this phone selling from JD website will work in australia?

  • So how much is A$ ?

    • I always get a rough idea on conversion by going to xe.com doing the conversion and allowing a bit more for the credit card companies fees. Actual cost will vary by how you pay.

    • I bought one, $169 via Paypal.

  • Damn, missed it :( Does JD.com have these coupons often?

    • That Lenovo logo with a circle at the back doesn't look like is K3 Note.

      • Just a slight cosmetic variance, it is definitely the K3 Note, it has the correct model number printed inside: lenovo k50-t5.

  • Has anyone received any news on the thereabout is the phone now? I accidentally clicked on Item received in JD account and now it shows as transaction completed. Obviously I havent received the item yet as I only just ordered it last week.

  • I ordered two of these 7 days ago from JD and got shipping confirmation for both just now.

  • Still waiting on shipping confirmation… ordered 19 June, paid 22 June. Hrmm !

    • Same

      • Got a dispatch note on July 1. Let the count down begin!

Found out the Tracking number of my order had changed to RF339054881SG (Singapore) from RF339054881CN(China).

To check click on My Order, right click on Track This Shipment and choose Inspect element. Take note of the tracking numbers "javascript:showTrack('892105','4PX-SGSP','RF339054881SG')" It will change after a few weeks from CN to SG. In my case its almost 3 weeks.
I should received it soon. However I live in a very remote area, so it might be another two weeks for me. :(

  • Thanks HandsomeMonkey. When I tried to track the status of the item on the https://www.singpost.com/track-items it comes with status "Please wait for at least 24 hours for the status information of the following items to be available "
