SYD/MEL/BRIS to LAX $444USD (~$576AU) or NY $605USD (~$786AU) Return w/ Qantas + Europe on Sale

2930

EDIT: Looks like most of the great deals are gone. Though there are still a few around apparently. Keep an eye on the comments.

Crazy cheap price to LA from Sydney or Melbourne (and Brisbane as commented below)

I've plugged in a few dates and seems that there are fares available for most of October and November 2015. Also getting reports for fares this cheap in December and January.

Also, awesome prices to New York, had to work a little harder to find dates for that one.

Adelaide to LA is coming in at about $786AU.

Other reports of fares to London / Paris / San Fran are mentioned in the comments for under $1000.

Try using the search function at http://www.skyscanner.com/ the ability to search the whole month makes it a little easier to find the cheap fares.

UPDATE 2:

2/7 4:40PM:

Hi everyone, just an update following yesterday’s glitch where mistake fares were incorrectly offered for sale by some US based online travel agents.

Apologies for the confusion. The glitch was fixed at 11:30am AEST, however I'm pleased to let you know that Qantas will honour the bookings in this case.

Woo hoo!

UPDATE:

12:58PM:

An update for you savvy AFFers celebrating Xmas in July with these mistake fares: they’re not valid and have been removed from sale. We’re currently following up affected bookings.

Expect bookings to be cancelled shortly.

    wait guys

Baggage fees are not included in your trip cost.

    • +1

? since when did they do this for qantas

      • If you click on the baggage information link it will advise you the specifics of the carrier you are flying with. I tried this with emirates and the details advised that you could carry 30kg of baggage and carry on.

I think it is a catch all phrase that stops people complaining when picking carriers like Airasia etc.

    • +1

Says this anyway "Up to Two Bags Free"

Should we call the "Worst Joke of the Month" award early?

        • That's frickin hilarious. Ten Points from me

Only know hot chicks? You must be gay.

        • @GregRust: I have so far received 10 positive votes for this comment! You ten people should be ashamed of yourselves! :)

If the tickets get honoured, I think m0nk3d deserves the post of the year prize - I missed out but looks like lots of people got tickets. Getting something delivered from China for $1 is exciting, but this was massive.

    • ?

    • Explain? It's not like it's a budget carrier?

  • Almost sounds too good to be true. I am very tempted to take the family. I got USD 2232 from 11 Dec 2015 to 25 Dec 2015 from Mel to LAX for 2 adults and 2 kids.

    • syd to jfk, 18 jan 2016 to 30 jan 2016, 2 adults + 2 kids $2,572 USD.

      • $8,000 for the same on qantas.

      • -1

Costs AUD$3108.44 + payment fees on Kayak.com.au through Vayama. All on Qantas flights.
        Kinda similar.

        • will be about $3400 for me so you got a better price!

  • +1

pricing this low in late Jan next year as well

      • most dates from about 16 jan up to 30th etc, from syd to lax or jfk

  • I won't have leave! Super sads

  • +1

    Fares also showing on expedia.com

    • yeah, thanks haydeng. It is also showing up on skyscanner.com and is much easier to use their search function. Gives you the ability to choose which website to book through too.

  • Ahh decisions decisions, LA or New York? Never been to the USA

    • +4

NY, get in quick before it goes if you are keen.

    • a question only you can answer!

but yeh, regardless, get in quick!

    • New York

      • u guys gotta tell him why.. instead of just saying new York…

I rkn LA could be better for a young family trip?

        Disneyland, less flight time etc

        • -2

the only thing I gotta tell him now is book!

Disneyland is good for one day in LA in my opinion, then get out of their!

        • +2

@dandandan: Disneyland takes at least 2-3 days, especially with young children

        • +1

          Family trip = LA
Singles / couple = NYC baby

        • -2

          @edwinlin88:

I did it it one day with young children, it was all that was needed in my opinion.

        • +1

@dandandan: No way you can do Disneyland with a young family in one day. 3 days minimum.

        • @dandandan:

I call Bull, no chance you can the Disneyland Parks in LA in 1 day. Some rides take over a hour to get on….. you must have done nothing or had tiny kids so only went to the single area.

As others said LA for family. N.Y. for singles

        • I'm not sure how waiting an hour to get on a ride can be deemed as enjoying yourself!

        • @fefris:

Only did Disneyland and off course we didn't go on every ride and yes had toddlers. If you went with kids say 5+ up to teenagers you may want to go for longer however one day is/was enough for us.

    https://www.flightnetwork.com/flights/showflight?cid=82&qid=…

    • Qantas website doesn't :\

      one way to NY $1300+

  • -7

Guys, it looks like the website is a scam. Don't risk it.

    http://www.consumeraffairs.com/travel/priceline.html

  • If you book directly through qantas wont they price match?

    • +1

"on any Australian website, we'll match it*."

    • looks like they only match if it's on an australian website http://www.qantas.com.au/travel/airlines/flights-price-promi…

      • true never knew that, just seems too low.

        • It is a computer programming error. They forgot to add the fuel surcharge. If Qantas hasn't already realised their error, they will soon enough when people start calling them for a price match. Their IT guys will then fix the error in no time.

        • @rd:

Looks like fare has gone. Booking through Priceline was/is genuine with fare showing up in my QF account. Shouldn't be able to be cancelled with US DOT policy on mistake airfares.

        • @dandandan: Guess what this may not apply anymore

          http://onemileatatime.boardingarea.com/2015/05/10/dot-no-lon…

In a reversal of the previous policy, airlines can now cancel flights booked at a mistaken fare — provided they can prove to the DOT that the fare was filed incorrectly. Airlines also need to reimburse travelers “who purchased a mistaken fare ticket for any reasonable, actual, and verifiable out-of-pocket expenses that were made in reliance on the ticket purchase, in addition to refunding the purchase price of the ticket.”

  • FYI for anyone who knows nothing about Priceline.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Priceline.com

The Priceline Group [NASDAQ: PCLN], is a provider of online travel & related services to consumers and local partners in over 200 countries through six primary brands: Booking.com, priceline.com, agoda.com, KAYAK, rentalcars.com and OpenTable.

    • Exactly what I was looking at only in Dec-Jan. Using Kayak.

  • +1

looks like fare has gone. I booked and booking is showing on QFF login. Thanks OP!

    • ashame it's only economy, would have loved some more rangoon to New York fares in business class and first class that I had to cancel.

      • +1

what does Rangoon got to do with this deal.

  • Sorry, there was an unexpected error while processing your request.

  • This is a mistake fare and will be withdrawn by lunchtime.

  • Is the fare fully refundable

    • lol no, when are bargain bin fares ever fully refundable

      • +1

But this is no bargain fare, its a price error fare

        • true

        • Still is based on promo fares.

i.e.. these are price errored o class fares not price errored unrestricted fares

To answer directly here is my booking info

Airline change penalties and restrictions apply. Most tickets are non-refundable.

Airline Tickets are non-transferrable. Name changes or adjustments are not allowed.

    • I didn't check however I think they would be happy to cancel! has been my experience with mistake fares before, it only took a few emails and cancelled with no fees however they were Business and First fares so economy may be different.

    • within first 24hrs when booked through EXPEDIA.COM (not .com.au)

i just booked now and ask for leave later today

      • i just booked now and ask for leave later today

Its more like Book Now, Think Later, Regret Later , Bottle Shop , 2 bottles of whiskey (when your leave is not approved)

        • sounds like my standard day on ozbargain

        • u cant disapprove my leave! I QUIT!

  • Did anyone manage to book a ticket? I wish I saw this before I booked my travel 3 weeks ago :-(

    • +1

It wasnt available 3 weeks ago so you can relax

  • Booked ! Ticket already issued and got the ticket number all looking good.

    • same booked and tickets showing up on QF account, I'll try and say what economy fare class they fall into.
