To Kill Apple Music from downloading anything via the cellular network do the following:

Settings>iTunes and App Store>Use mobile data

This stops the streaming and D/L on your phone network.

  • I'm on legacy so like everything else I seem to unable to get this offer.

  • Got a quick question, can i use apple music on my ipad (using wifi) if i have a free membership on my mobile? Can I share it with my gf mobile while i'm not using it?

    • Pretty sure you should be able to use it on the iPad just fine.

Not sure about the sharing with the GF though. Apple has Family Plans for sharing with devices that are logged into another Apple ID, and I suspect thats the best way to go about it but I don't know if this Telstra promo also works for family accounts.

  • +1

Shit. Tried online got instant message saying they are unable to process

  • +2

How long is this valid for? Id just recently joined Apple music and my 3 months free trail is still vaild, dont want to enable this to reduce the 12months now..

  • It's showing up in my add-ons but after I applied, it texts me "Sorry, we're unable to process your recent CREATE of Apple Music submitted". Please call 132200.

I have yet to see Telstra being able to do a single thing since I joined.

  • -2

I'm calling mass customer information collection program on this one.

  • +2

I was thinking who was the ass that downvoted this REAL DEAL

    and it was me!

  • My service is active but no text was received. Anyone have a link that Telstra is supposed to send?

  • Has anyone tried activating it while their 3 month trial is active? Will we forfeit the 3 months?

    • it forfeits the 3months trial.

  • Activated in my account but got a SMS indication it failed. Got onto Live Chat and they added it for me. iP6 plan.

  • +1

Someone should add to the OP that it forfeits your 3month trail.

Best to run out the trail then sign up for the 12months free :)

    • 3 months running a trail? Sorry I don't think my legs can handle that haha jk.

    • Depends when this deal ends. Don't want to miss out on 12 months free just to gain a few extra months.

  • Awesome, I've got the subscription!

  • What happens if I already have an existing Family plan that I want to keep?

    • in the t's and c's it says you have to forfeit your current plan with apple and sign up via telstra to take up the offer.

  • anyone know how to activate this ?

I just completed a livechat with tesltra after i got the SMS saying it 'couldn't be processed'

Been told its now activated and it was linked to my telstra mobile???

    • +1

Same here. Can someone please take a screen shot to show how the subscription shows up on your iphone. Thanks

    • +4
      1. Sign up for the offer via MyAccount as outlined in the FAQ
      2. Wait for SMS from Telstra.
      3. If SMS says success, carry on. If SMS says failed, call the number or use Telstra Livechat to get support to manually add it to your account.
      4. Open Apple Music app on your Telstra iPhone. Click the tab for Apple Music. There should be a link underneath the "Start a 3 month free trial" button that says something like "Joined through Telstra?"
      5. Click that link and it will verify your account through Telstra and activate the trial.
      6. Enjoy :)
      • do you have a screen shot of this, when i look in the music app, i cant see the 3 month trial, only asks me to pay the monthly fee and asks for my apple id password?

        • +1

Can't go back to the screen since I've already activated, but in the "For You" tab of Music app it should look like this, except it will say "Joined through Telstra?" instead of "Already a member?

Perhaps you need to be on 4G and not wifi for it to show up? You will have to do this on your Telstra account iPhone first, then it will link the 12m trial status to your Apple ID so that you can then use the trial on other (non-Telstra) devices.

Also, obviously make sure you're running iOS 8.4 with the new Apple Music app. Is your Apple ID already linked and logged in on your iPhone?

        • @evol: Actually I'm having trouble with this as well. When I go to apple music, it only says subscription valid until xxx (currently using the 3 months trial) but it doesn't let me choose to subscibe using telstra. Anyone knows how?

        • @mjjeje:

I'm also having the same issue.

          Any ideas?

  • +2

I'm running the 3 months trial, the service is a bit buggy sometimes and not as mature as Spotify, but this deal is great!!! Thanks OP! I will sign up for sure!

    • What makes the service 'buggy'? Ive been using it and its been great! with a HUGE amount of selection to chose from.

    • What specific bugs are you referring to? I'm interested.

      • +2

@jok3r don't get me wrong mate, I totally agree, great selection. Nothing major, but my app crashes from time to time, I have the latest iOS installed, this issue is happening on my iPhone and iPad as well. Also the app buffers frequently even having a full 4G (Telstra) coverage. I'm a Spotify user, never had it buffering in the same commuting routine, so IMHO spotify is more mature than the Apple ones at this stage. But this is great deal and I encourage everyone to try.

        • No buffering for me on wifi

        • I have an iPhone 5 and the app crashes on me every time i try to watch 2 videos, first video plays ok but when i go to watch a second one it crashes. I'm not sure if this is a RAM issue but without fail it will crash on second video. No issues so far with audio.

  • +1

Not currently available for Business customers, only Consumer customers.

    • they'll be the Beta testers for your benefit.

  • Just confirmed with Telstra for postpaid, just give them a call/chat to activate the free 12 month Apple Music for existing postpaid users. No indication when the promo will last though.

For those who are in the current 3 month promo, you'd have to unsubscribe first before getting in touch with them

  • I have a postpaid business mobile - option not there to add Apple Music.
I also have a personal postpaid 4gx modem with sim (so essentially a post paid phone?) but still no option there to add Apple music.

no love for android fans again..

    • +2

Android Client is coming later in the year, once Apple learns how to write Android apps ;)

      • -5

I obviously meant google play music …doh…

  • So I claimed it earlier today, got the "unable to process" sms. Checked online again, and it indicates that it's active. Do I still need to contact Telstra, or is there a next step that I missed?

  • Those of us with iPad subscriptions, I don't have a mobile plan with Telstra anymore, not too sure how I am going to receive a confirmation text..considering texts can't be received by iPads… short of putting the sim in my phone.

Looks like i'll end up just webchatting with them.

    • +1

Once you've subscribed, you can see if your subscription is active in Add-ons in My Account.

  • What data charges will I incur?
Data charges apply for downloading the Apple Music app and when using the app. Data usage is aprox 6mb per song when streaming music. You can estimate your monthly data usage at https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/plans-and-rates/dat…

    Hmm 6mb per song.. er

  • I have an iPhone on Optus AND a Nexus 5 on Telstra. Would I have to put the Telstra Sim in the iPhone to activate this deal??

    Anyone done this yet :)

Or is it just at Telstras end?

    • to answer my own question….

You DO have to have the TELSTRA SIM in the iPhone to activate the service.

My problem - Telstra SIM is not NANO and can't be cut down. So I will have to get a SIM swap and then use adapter then put back in the NEXUS 5!
      :(

  • Ok, so my Telstra Account indicates that the Apple Music service is now active. However, I am currently subscribed to the 3 Month Apple Music trial. I understand that will be discontinued once the free Telstra 12 months Apple music subscription is applied and active.

After I saw that this 12 MONTH subscription was active on my Telstra account I signed out of Apple Music on my iPhone, and then signed back in. Yet my subscriptions on my Apple account indicate I am still subscribed to the 3 month trial. How do I update the service to the 12 Month subscription now that it has been applied to my Telstra account?

    • +1

Yeah in the same situation. Have you received the SMS yet?

      • I went to my account earlier today and actived the Apple Music Add-on, but it was unsuccessful, I received this SMS earlier: "Sorry, we're unable to process your recent CREATE of Apple Music submitted on 2015-08-04 at 11:36:21+10:00. Please contact on 132200 for help."

So I contacted Telstra through the online Chat. The girl I chatted with indicated Apple Music was now active on my account.

I checked my account later and I had to apply again, for some reason. It failed again. But within 20 minutes I checked the account again online and it was active.

I still can't figure out how to get it applied to my Apple Music App. grrr lol

        • Same. I'm on chat right now and the guy says it's showing up as active.

I can't find this link in Apple Music mentioned in the posts above…

        • @Knightelf:

Nor can I, tell me how you go. :)

        • +1

@AusBargainhunter: I was told to wait for the SMS (which can take up to 48 hours to arrive) and then follow the directions in the SMS. I was told the Apple trial will continue until it expires then the Telstra subscription will kick in and end on 3/8/2016.

But I was also given 2 free months free, so my Telstra free subscription will actually end on 2/10/2016.

        • @unity1:

          Sweet deal!

Oh, thats great, so I guess we'll all wait until we get that SMS. Awesome. Thanks for the information. I can watch a movie now in peace, without thinking about how to solve this lol

        • +1

@AusBargainhunter: I will keep you posted. I was told to call back if I don't receive the SMS within 2 days. They have 2 months to get this right so no big hurry from my side.

        • @unity1

          @AusBargainhunter

I received the SMS :) It gives you a link:

          http://itunes.apple.com/carrier

        • @unity1: Received the SMS today and followed the link https://itunes.apple.com/carrier but didn't see the "joined through Telstra" option.

I was taken to a page that looked like this then entered my Apple ID & Password and recieved a message to say "You are already an Apple Music subscriber"

The subscription in my account is still showing I'm on the 3 month Apple free trial and there is no mention of the Telstra subscription.

So looks like the Telstra subscription will only show up in your Apple account once the initial 3 month Apple trial is over.

        • @Knightelf: What happened once you clicked on that link?

        • @unity1:

I got the same text as well, same address, same outcome as you.

I don't feel like sitting online waiting to speak to a Telstra rep now, maybe tomorrow I will, however.

        • +1

@AusBargainhunter: I wouldn't worry about it too much. Take a screen shot of your Telstra account which shows your 1 year subscription is active.

Then just wait till your 3 month Apple trial is over and contact them if the Telstra subscription doesn't kick in.

        • +1

          @unity1:

Yeah, too easy. Not a big drama.

I have to say, I love this site. I've gotten 6 Months presto, free AFL sub for 12 months, free Apple music for 12 months, $50 from me bank, $75 from ING plus the % back on pay wave transactions, I have saved thousands on clothes, and many many other things. Sweet! :-)

        • +1

@AusBargainhunter: always good to think what I have saved on OzB deals. Just try not to think about how much I have spent,

        • @deal88:

Well, you know, there's that too. lol. You're right, think about the savings :-)

  • Sweet, signed up.. waiting for SMS =)

    • Just got my SMS . Thanks OP . Thanks everyone for all the info on this thread

  • Anyone know if this is short term offer????

  • All information on this can be found here now https://www.telstra.com.au/applemusic

    • So i've read all the content including the T&C's

there is no mention of an 'end date' for this offer.

is it safe to assume i can ride out my 3 month trial and then activate the 12 month telstra offer ???

      • Given there is currently no time commitment on the offer, this isn't "safe".

        • are we meant to get 500mb bonus data as well?
apple music offer worked but no 500mb bonus showing

  • I never got the SMS but I was prompted to enter my Apple ID when I opened Music and it was then all set up.

  • Worked for me. Got no confirmation SMS though.
    Good work OP.

Edit: Just received the SMS confirmation:

Welcome to Apple Music. Click https://itunes.apple.com/carrier to start using the app

  • I have that Apple 3 months free trial, and signed up to this 12 month deal.

Contacted Telstra who said it should automatically update to reflect this on the apple subscription within 24 hours.. So let's see.

Seems that there is conflicting information provided to customers here

  • -3

I saw this today pplz, it looks like Telstra have finally floated the free Apple Music 12 month membership…

If you are already a Telstra mobile customer on a plan, it’s easy to claim your complimentary 12 month Apple Music membership. Follow these steps:

    Log in to My Account
In the Plans & usage tab, select your Mobile service
    Click the Add-ons tab
    Add Apple Music

For further info, check it out here:

    https://www.telstra.com.au/applemusic?ti=TR:TR:May15:tcomapp…

Does it count towards data usage?

    • +1

It's mentioned three times on the link you posted.

"Get a 12 month Apple Music membership with a 12 or 24 month
Go Mobile Plan on iPhone, only available from Telstra.
      Data charges apply."

"GET A 12 MONTH APPLE MUSIC MEMBERSHIP ONLY FROM TELSTRA
Offer from Telstra - Connect on a 12 or 24 month Go Mobile plan on iPhone, only from Telstra. Data charges apply."

"Data charges apply to download and use the app. There is no app download fee."

  • Will Apple start charging once the 12 months is up? And if so can I disable that now?

    • Yes, and Yes. Easy way to do it is:

      1. Grab your iPhone/ iPad

      2. Open the App Store App

      3. If the App doesn't open in "featured" then tap on featured at the bottom lefthand corner of the screen.

      4. Scroll to the bottom of the page

      5. Tap on "Apple ID"

      6. Tap on "View Apple ID"

      7. Enter your password

      8. In Account find "Subscriptions" and tap on "Manage"

      9. Find "Your Membership" (Apple Music Membership, it should say "Active" next to that) tap on that

      10. Find "Automatic Renewal" there should be a button next to that, it should be green which indicates it is set to ON, tap on it.

      11. See the pop up message? Tap on "Turn Off"

      Done.

      • I can get as far as logging into my account, but there is no 'subscriptions' in the menu anywhere. I'm stumped :(

        • Then you couldn't be subscribed to anything through the App Store. What version of iOS are you using, what iPhone do you have?

        • @AusBargainhunter: well I'm probably not subscribed to anything other than Apple Music. iOS 8.4, iPhone 5.

  • So if someone else with an Android device who has no interest in Apple music is happy for me to use this for 12 months how do we go about it.

So far have gone into Log in to My Account ,In the Plans & usage tab, select your Mobile service,Click the Add-ons tab,Add Apple Music.

Now showing as pending. Just wondering if I can put my sim in their phone after they receive the text and it should all be ok? Anyone else done this?

  • I got the 'welcome' SMS this morning. The carrier link actually bound the Telstra account to my appleID, and now it shows as 'active' in the Telstra portal, as well as working fine within iTunes and on the iPhone via wifi or 4G.

The option to 'remove' the addon appears within Telstra, and I'll make a reminder to remove it prior to it charging me $$$ in a years time.

    THANKS OP!

    • PS: I wasn't on any Apple Music trial - ever. Not a big fan of paying for virtual music.

      • From what i understand you will get a reminder 3 days prior to the 12 months ending to advise of the renewal cost. I've still set a personal reminder just in case.

  • were you previously on apple 3 month trial ?

  • +1

anyone got the 500mb bonus data??

  • Has anyone on a Telstra Business plan got this to work?

    • The Apple Music offer is ONLY available on Consumer plans and not Business plans.

  • So my Telsta email address is not the same as my apple ID. I signed up for apple music on the tesltra website, am I screwed? Did I waste my free apple music?

  • actually preferring the rdio deal to this. apps on IOS, Windows, Android. and no itunes. Works out cheaper after 2 years.

  • I've received the sms "welcome to apple music" however I am using an galaxy s5 ($45 go plan :) ). We have an ipad and itunes on the pc. Is there a way to activate this without an iphone? I don't want to cut my sim to nano for my wifes iphone 5 to activate unless I have too :)

  • So I signed up for this but never received an SMS. Spoke to Telstra on Livechat and they assured me it was showing as active on my account at their end even though it's not showing as active when I check my account details on MyTelstra page. Anyone else have this issue?

  • +1

I'm assuming other people have received the SMS offering an extra 500mg if you took up this offer?

  • +1

    Android beta now available http://www.smh.com.au/digital-life/smartphone-apps/apple-mus…

I've just activated the offer via Telstra MyAccount and will try the Android app once I get an SMS.

    • Search for apple music in the play store - and it doesn't appear for some reason? spotify does though!

Searched for just apple and the beta app appeared.

    • Working well for me. It's a little different to how I remember the iPhone app works in terms of sign in. With the iPhone app there was a button to sign in with mobile carrier whereas with the android app you need an apple ID. I guess the app grabs the mobile number from the phone and uses that to link apple music to your telstra account for the free trial.

This app being so new, many of the telstra consultants aren't aware of it and will tell you that you need an iPhone.

Working without a hitch shop far.

  • I can't get the Telstra thing to activate. Everytime I return to the Addons page after a few hours it appears there to activate again. I get no SMS, nothing.

    • Ring telstra. I had issues adding it on to my wife's iPhone service.

  • I got the SMS sent to my personal Nokia 920 then forwarded to my work iPhone but wouldn't work…presumably because it's a different number.

Do you think if I swap my personal SIM into the iPhone, activate Apple Music and then swap back to my work SIM it would keep working?

If I swap SIMs temporarily will I loose/confuse any data on my work phone?

Edit: Both phones are with Telstra
