Remember that time Dicksmith didn't have a percentage off code? Nope, me either.

      Pepperidge Farm remembers…

      • +5

But Pepperidge Farm ain't just gonna keep it to Pepperidge Farm's self free of charge. Maybe you go out and buy yourself some of these distinctive Milano cookies, maybe this whole thing disappears.

        • +1

All they are doing is pumping up their customer numbers for when the capital company sells them off. This will keep happening until they float DS on the share market as an entity or they sell it totally to another company. Standard strategy for one of these investment firms. Means all the numbers are totally exaggerated when they report them to the potential new owners.

        • +1

          @drunifex:
but I assume we can use this coupon to get 16% off the listing price?

        • +1

@drunifex: Except that Anchorage floated Dick Smith in Dec 2013. Their shares presumably came out of escrow 12 months after that.

So given that it's 18 months after the float and Dick Smith is now an ASX-listed company pursuing the same continual markdown strategy, it's probably safe to say this is just their approach to pricing rather than the cynical motive you're ascribing to it.

On a broader note, whether it's "standard strategy" is completely up for debate as well. Some investment firms have done this in the past - e.g. Myer. But the problem then is that the next time they take something to market to IPO, the market doesn't believe them. So the investment firms that take a longer-term strategy may take the opposite approach. Look at Veda and Lifehealthcare - two companies floated by investment firms that saw their share price climb after listing (on the back of strong results).

          @hayne:
          Good point.

It is a standard strategy. quite common in the business world to do this.

    Christmas in…

  • Temperature controlled soldering iron
coupon brings it down to $50.68. Price changes once you add it to cart

  • Find a special, put it in the cart and the price changes to not a special price. Hmmm

    • It changes back on checkout to special price

  • Swann ADW410 $175

    http://www.dicksmith.com.au/security/swann-adw-410-kit-7-lcd…

I bought one of these yesterday with the $10 off code. I'm to lazy to cancel and order again.

    • +5

Cancel and don't buy at all, Swann's security kit is pretty horrible :/

      • +10

All I need is to be able to check if its my mother at the door so I can pretend to be out which this thing seems capable of.

I have one of these already but I smashed the screen. The app is terrible but if you don't need an app it seems ok for a basic camera and screen.

        • +2

Check the specifications. You need a mother-proof lens. Might crack otherwise.

        • I'm in the same boat, I just need to know if it's my gf at the front door so the other one can escape out the back ;)

        • All those gangland thugs have cameras for exactly the same reason. Not for the police or rivals…

        • +1

@marquise: Except the bikies etc. dont buy swann, they get the full $20K professional system. Then they can actually read the content of the search warrant from inside :)

    • It's $299 now

  • Thanks TRENT86, they still have yesterday's Move Multi Format Card Reader deal priced at $5. This code took it down to $4.20 click&collected.

Note: the product page says $43.98, but currently when you add it to your cart and click through to the cart page, the price will be $5, then apply the coupon to bring the price down to $4.20.
Presumably at some stage this morning the price will revert back to $43.98, so carefully check your cart price.

    • Up to $44 now. I was just about to order one.

      • It's still coming up as $5 for me in the 'view cart/checkout' page.

        • Thanks, ordered one.

  • what a dickie.. they jacked up price again

    • +8

They aren't jacking up the prices, they are reverting to their 'regular' price.

By law they can't advertise a price as "was $xxx.xx, now $x.xx" unless they have sold the product at the higher price for a reasonable amount of time.

So, one day they advertise special prices, the next day they revert to advertising 'regular' prices and have coupon codes to bring the price back down.

They are gaming the system to sell products as much as OzBargainers game the system to buy products.

      • -1

as much as OzBargainers game the system to buy products

        Gerry Harvey? Is that you?

        • You don't think stacking coupons or some of the other complex purchase techniques qualifies as gaming the system (and winning)?

        • @Thrift:
Using multiple legitimate coupons isn't 'gaming the system', if that's the conditions the person who made the coupon allowed.

        • @PainToad: What about the Woolworth's toilet paper deal?

          OzBargain blog:

Woolworths sometimes offers coupon codes to use to obtain discounts on their website. The best ways of using these codes is to stack them with other codes. Quilton Toilet Paper was on sale at the last week of April. By utilizing a number of different coupon codes together, users were able to get it down to $.34/roll and at one point down to $.08/roll.

        • -1

          @Thrift:

          Woolworths sometimes offers coupon codes

No need to read past that point. Woolworth offered the coupon, it's up to them to set the conditions of the deal. Customers are not 'gaming the system', simply using the coupon within the rules outlined by the retailer. Perhaps the bimbo marketing monkey should think these promotions through.

        • +3

@PainToad: > Customers are not 'gaming the system', simply using the coupon within the rules outlined by the retailer.

Performing a set of legal actions in a specific way to maximise an advantage is the very definition of 'gaming the system'.

        • @PainToad Thought that was pretty funny so not sure why you got negged. Unless it was just the mention of Gerry's name that got Ozbargainers riled up

  • +1

Thanks OP, ordered! I noticed they show increased prices when you click add to cart, but at the time of checkout, the discounted prices are charged.

  • Excludes Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, Mobile Phones…

So whats the difference between Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge and Mobile phones?

    • +16

I don't think the Galaxy S6 is a mobile phone. According to Samsung's website, it's a stunning, immersive experience themed in brilliance that is designed to keep you going, and going. A beauty without borders that lives in that special place where form meets function.

      • +3

Beauty without borders? Lol. Think I saw that on an advert for russianbrides.com

        • They keep referring it to as a "Next" whatever that means.

  • Got gopro for 416. Not as good as before like 320 last month.

    • I tried but came up as 486. Was it the 4 silver?

      • Yeah i purchased (496) before they return the original price of it. Now its 579 when you apply the code it will be 486. Sorry mate i feel your pain it happened to me last month, the 320 deal

        • Thanks mate. Been eyeing one for my cousins. You snooze you lose

    • or effectively a 270 deal! (since people DID get the 50$ ebay voucher as well.)

  • +7

If there are any bargains I suspect they are unintended. The only time I though I got a bargain from these every-day sales, I wound up left out of pocket for weeks for a 'pricing error' instead.

I have been looking at buying the "Temperature controlled soldering iron" and it its the same price (give or take a few cents) every day (and its not a bargain at $60) and definitely not 16% off.

    • +1

I agree! Popular items are either excluded or changed back to ridiculous RRP for the duration of the "sale"!

    • +1

not sure why your getting neg'd … :) but i know what you mean.

      • +2

        I have no idea why I was getting neg'd …. but it still hurts :{

    • +2

there are plenty of Bargains but most people can't be stuffed looking for them that's why I do lists most of the time :)

      • +2

It's been cheaper before on dick smith during 45 off 200 sale but it's the cheapest at the moment if you can't wait for another such sale

  • +2

Bit useless when the price is jacked. Canon 70-200mm lens goes to 999, was 790 yesterday.

  • Got a Fitbit Charge HR (Plum) for $167. TYVM!

    • +2

Just in case you have not collected your order from Dick Smith, Harvey Norman is selling it cheaper today.

      http://www.harveynorman.com.au/catalogsearch/result/?q=fitbi…

      $166 - $25 (newsletter sign up bonus) = $141

      • link for newsletter signup please

      • :(
I have paid for it already. Let others learn from my mistake!

Edit: Can I still change my mind even though the PayPal payment has gone through?

        • You can call Dick Smith online sales team to cancel order if required. I have cancelled Click & Collect orders before, and it is very easy.

      • I signed up for the Harvey Norman newsletter. Been about 10 minutes, still waiting for the $25 voucher…
edit: never mind, i just got it!

  • Canon eos 1200 with kit 18-55 comes down to 360 after the code. Is it a good deal guys ? Anyone seen lower than that ?

Its a good one but the last time was 299
