Kettlebell 12kg $9.99 Scanned (Save $10.00, $19.99 Listed on Shelves) @ ALDI

580

As shown in picture. $19.99 listed in-store. Cashier scanned as $9.99. I did not check prices for the other sizes, but I assume they're all marked down?

I couldn't find a cheaper kettlebell deal on OzBargain. So grab some before they're all gone!

Unsurprising. Those things have been hanging around like a bad smell for weeks. I reckon they didn't sell very well at full price, lots of stores shave heaps of stock.

    • +3

Why do they shave the stock?

      • +23

        So it looks bigger.

      • -1

        Too hairy.

  • +8

    good for boiling water

    • , and even better for memes

  • +2

    door stop ?

  • +2

Better just add that it's half price in the title in case anyone's unsure. Throw in "50% off" as well just for good luck.

    • 0.5 cent better than half price. Lol.

    • Still, the scanned price didn't match the shelf price, grounds for a freebie as per checkout policy? ;)

      • It's if it scans at a higher price on regular everyday items (Not Special Buys), then yes. Otherwise, no. Special Buy, so no.

      • +1

Aldi are not signatories to the voluntary scanning policy, unlike Colesworth.

        • +3

Apparently Coles are no longer signatories either:

        • But they do have their own policy. Similar to the ww one

          @spy:
I've been told that there are rather unscrupulous people out there who intentionally take price tags off the shelves (for products which are on sale), keep them, then stick them back on the shelf at another time (when the product is back at full price) so that when they go to pay for that item… they can claim the price discrepancy in order to get it free/reduced.

I don't know how much of a common thing it is though. Definitely used to happen at a place I used to work (major liquor retailer, and in a dodgy part of town at that lol). Wouldn't surprise me if it happened elsewhere and is thus a contributing factor to the scanning policy not being as widespread as it used to be.

        • +2

@waterlogged turnip: there was indeed a small minority who abused this policy in my 5+ years of Service Desk management at Woolies.

        • @waterlogged turnip:

The Code does not apply to Liquor or Tobacco products

          http://www.retailcouncil.com.au/scanning/scanning-code

        • @Wally:

It does apply (or at least it DID apply back in 2007-10) at this liquor retailer, who belongs to Woolworths :P If you buy something off the shelf and it scans at a higher price than was on the shelf ticket, you get the $ difference back. You do not get the item for free.

        • @waterlogged turnip:

The Web Archive would indicate the store manager/supervisors should have had better training, as those products lines were excluded back then as well

    None at carnigie

  • Damn, just what I'm after. Pity there's no Aldi's in SA yet

    • For anyone interested, i grabbed 2x8kg kettlebells from Kmart yesterday for $20 each.
They aren't the crappy plastic ones either, they're cast iron with rubber coating.
They're not advertised on Kmart anymore in the 8kg variety but they still have the 6kg ones online for $15.
The 8kgs look the same but they have dark blue rubber.

I grabbed the last two 8kgs at West Lakes store but saw them at the Firle store a few days earlier.

  • Any heavier ones?

    • +1

16kg were the heaviest, and I would say yes.

    • +1

      Bought 2 16kgs for $15 a piece

  • +1

Anything wrong with these? I don't think usually sell cheaper than $20.

    • +1

See the first comment about hanging around. I don't think there could be a problem with them, maybe the box

    • Weight + handle. What else could possibly matter in a kettle ball?

      • +3

surprisingly a fair bit. handle size, centre of mass, finish and general shape may effect the way you grip, heft and generally use your kettlebell.

Keep in mind there are a plethora of sizes and movements you can do with kettlebells so it can be surprisingly nuanced.

    • +4

The polypropylene or whatever they're made out of is fairly slippery and the handle cross-section is a circle so unless you're a gecko, it would take Hurculean strength to prevent them from rotating in your hand. Less control == more chance of sagas. I almost grabbed some when they were on for the "Special Buys" the other week but noped right out of there as soon as I picked one up.

      • +1

        I didn't know noping was a thing.

        • I'm sorry you asked, but it is (nsfw)

        • @Steptoe: Strange thing to do at Aldi then ;)

        • With context, it's not what Steptoe said though.

Imagine seeing a 10ft hairy redback spider. You might run away saying, "nopenopenopenopenopenopenopenopenope"

          He noped out of there.

        • @smpantsonfire:

Imagine a standard sized hairy redback. Some sort of huntsman/redback mutant spider..

  • I recently returned a set of these. Had them for about 11 months, hardly used, and the plastic was cracked everywhere.

    • +11

How many Zimbabwean dollars did you get for it?

  • +1

    too heavy for me

  • -1

I would suggest adding Aldi Merrylands to the title. All Aldi mark down are very store specific.

  • Any place to get metal balls for cheap price?

The larger balls are just to unwieldy to handle.

    • The larger balls are just to unwieldy to handle.

      I can certainly imagine so!

      • +1

        That's what she said.

  • Mobgym on ebay are selling ones very similar to the Celsius line for about $3 kilo, I will give them a crack shortly

    • Edit: i mean the metal ergonomic ones

  • I've had one for a year and its fine, used it a fair bit too

    • Except anything larger than 8kg is just too cumbersome to handle.

I rather they sell some metal balls.

  • didn't see them, but bought a king size mattress for $180. not sure why, now…

  • I got a 16kg one for $14 and a 12kg one $10.. also got a 8kg medicine ball for $25

    Springvale Aldi had heaps :)

  • @tyler - if you're in Sydney then give urbanrx(urbanrx.com) a try, I've found them to be the best quality at a cheaper price range, esp. as they often have sales. definitely choose pick up option if possible, as shipping is always a killer on kbs

  • Anyone know the size and marksmen price of the exercise mat?

  • @ Aldi Templestowe scanning returned price 19.99. Long queue and I was holding only one item 12kg Kettlebell, Had to pay for it.
I think I failed on Ozbargain's code of conduct

    • +1

Why did you "have to pay for it"? You could've just said it wasn't the price you were expecting, or something else. You can always return it and wait til you find it at $10 elsewhere? :)

  • bought the 16kg one

it was priced at $14.99 marked down from $24.99

  • Aldi makes me strong!!

  • They had the 12kg one marked down to $12.99 in Aldi Melbourne cbd and as above, 16kg one was $14.99 so I just went with that rather than worry whether the till will give me that extra $3.

Hopefully 16kg will do me some more good!
