IMHO cheaper to add a 32gb sd card to a cheap mobile like the nokia/microsoft 530/532s they were selling a Big W awhile back.

    • +1

Agreed, or even that Huawei Y550 that was going around. Don't see the bargain here even if it is reduced

Some people like me want to buy iPod touch just want to gain access to iOS development.

    • +1

Yup cheaper, just not as good.

      • +1

Apple is nothing more than overpriced hype. If you are more into trends than value go straight ahead.

If you are looking for a decent music player there are far better and much cheaper options available — such as cheap priced mobile phones.

Both the Nokia/MS and Huawei mobile mentioned throughout this post offer features that only Apple users could dream of such as a SD slot (wait until your 16gb runs out) and user changeable batteries. I have listened to both a iPod and the Nokia 532 and the sound both give via headphones is on par.

And the Fandroid raises to the bait yet again. Fish in a barrel.

Can I see the full photo with date on it? Want to try pricematch at my local store.

  • Music playback on iPods is a different experience altogether; I wonder if this will play games meant for latest IOS? In which case a very good buy.

Has anyone confirmed that this is a deal? Seems to me that the only person who got it was OP. Can anyone else confirm?

    • +2

Confirm no stock in DJs Rundle Mall, a few people supposedly have asked, yet no one has updated in OZB. Come on lads, lurk and help pleaseeee.

  • 16g version if 5th gen touch has no front camera, am I right?

    • -3

Yes you are right it has no front camera.

      • +2

It has a front but not a rear camera.

        • +2

Oh yeah I got it the wrong way around. Thanks for correction

The Specs, for anyone who is interested.

  • Checked @c.hill dj's only applies to black 16gb ipod touch market st macquarie has stock canberra

    • castle hill?

  • -2

Basically this is not Generation 5 Ipod Touch but Generation 4 Touch. Gen 5 has a rear camera as well.

    • Gen 4 has a back camera too

    • +3

This is the old 16GB 5th Gen model that came out only in Silver back with black front colour before Apple upgraded the 16GB models to come in all colours with rear camera.

      • Correct, model number ME643ZP/A for anyone who wants to look it up.

  • None at the David Jones in the city of Sydney. There was a line for marked down ipads (both full and mini sizes). Glass counter next to the check out.

Too bad it's 16GB and no SD card.

    People still use these ??

    • Poor man's iphone. You can make people think you have an iphone at first glance or from a distance but you got something that costs a fraction of an iphone.

  • I think cheaper might to come if you wait

  • Good chance it may drop further in the days to come. The 6th gen is just out, it costs USD$199, and at this price point, the old one is alright, but its outdated money. I'd suggest the new gen, cos its cheap as it is, but for access to the app store, and a restricted environment, no thanks. I'd put my money down on a Nexus 9 when the price drops. Use this money for that. Better return on investment IMO. ")

    • Not comparing like for like, and good luck finding a nexus 9 for this price. :)

  • It seems it was only the black ones, and the poster got the last 2 at DJ's.

Went to get one for my son, I asked "what about the yellow one ?"
they said "sorry mate, only black, the other guy bought the last 2 black ones"

So it would be a matter for finding a DSE that has black and does the same discount.

If it was due to the 6th gen coming out, why was it limited to black at 50% off ????

A6 A8 who cares. My Gen2 with an Arm11 running 133mhz is still going strong.
Really, how fast do you want to play the music!!!
original battery . Only limitation I can upgrade IOS
Not sure if the new ones are made as well.

    • It matters for video and apps.

    • -2

Agreed, for the thousands of apple compatible docks and interfaces (which you cannot get for Android devices, I've tried!) This is a great deal. I don't have any iPhone in the house, but I've got a trusty old iPod that plays everywhere…

    16gb, lol.

    $130, lolol.

    RRP, BWAHAHAAAAHAAAA!

  • So what do all you people use for a phone when you're running around listening to music, watching videos and taking photos (or whatever else) with a Touch? Some $19 Nokia feature phone?

Not that that wouldn't make sense on some level. Mostly I'm just curious.

  • Thank you for posting the deal. Time to buy the new one.

Consider this. For $1 million dollars I couldn't buy the new one last month. For a mere $549 I can buy the 128gb new one.

    • +2

I cannot consider THIS as I don't have $1m and $549 is not a "mere" by my standard.

u guys do know ipod touch 6th gen is released right?

  • Will this support iOS 9?

  • -2

Has anyone else noticed OP bought 2 ?
Got 2 for the price of one ! haha

  • Never seen the words "Apple" and "ecosystem" mentioned in the same sentence.. .let alone so many times! I'm either getting really old or this is some new crazy lingo that snuck in while I was asleep.. :/

    • Try counting Ecosystems jumping over a fence… there you go, back to sleeeep…

  • As with all IOS devices you don't get full advertised storage space. As a few gig is already consumed by the IOS. The new the IOS the larger and more space it consumes.

Also the IOS device only support there lossless apple format and Wav for High resolution playback. To playback the other more popular space saving lossless audio format like FLAC you need to use a 3rd party audio player like Equalizer PRO which works very well.

  • I rang the Perth DJs this morning and they said they had no ipods at this price. Theirs were newer models and well over $200. Perth is apparently the only store in WA that sells electronics.

  • Do you reckon you could repost with the date included?? I'm going to try an see if OfficeWorks will price match :)

  • The ipods are always using tech that's 1 gen behind the iphone, aka ipod 5th gen is using the cpu of the iphone 4s, while the new ipod 6th gen will use the cpu of the iphone 5.

    • A8 chip in iphone5?

      • My bad, looks like ipod 6th gen using the A8 from iphone 6 like you said, so it's worth people knowing that the 6th gen ipod is 2 gens of performance ahead of the 5th gen ipod.

    • Every time I hear the word, iPod, my brain processes it as "iPod Classic". Probably because it was the last "i" device that I've used for a long time. T'was good (other than how fragile HDD was), it's a shame that they've discontinued it (I would've loved to see a flash drive based one).

      • Yeah I don't like the touch screen based audio players they've migrated to. If you have it strapped to your arm while running, or just in your pocket, you have to pull it out just to access the controls. Previously you could press buttons through your pockets to skip or FF/RW.

        • I really miss MP3 players. I am seriously thinking about grabbing a Fiio X1, though with my current selection of headphones and earphones, I probably wouldn't benefit much from it.

I'm not sure why but, that receipt seems fake to me or edited way too much. When I receive sale transaction dockets, it never looks like that (the one posted here). The one posted here seems as though there isn't much information on it, for example, the date. Something so simple as that. Also, I'm not sure whether that's the code number for the device underneath "iPod Touch 16Gb etc" and if it is, there is no way two devices have the SAME code reference number. Each device has it own unique number in order to know that each separate device has been sold.. I called up all David jones stores (mind you I live in Melbourne too) and each store said they don't have any sales on it. Also, Apple never have sales on their products, the most you will see is 10% off and even that excludes half the Apple products (only limited to iPods for example, and not MacBooks) so the fact that David Jones is slashing Apple products but nearly a half seems very unrealistic. However, some clarification would be good. Showing the date would be very helpful in order to price match.
