In case of sitting next to baby crying or people snoring, that's definitely save your nightmare.

In case of sitting next to a baby of rich family crying or rich people snoring, that's definitely save your nightmare.

        • +23

I highly doubt you can upgrade to International business class for $309

        • +4

@nayfon: The Malaysia airlines upgrade bid cost is pretty low. Dubai to KL upgrade was about $270 or so I think.

        • Business Class didn't stop me from sitting behind a crying baby last week for 11 hours

        • +2

          @Cyphar:

They actually gave me noise cancelling BOSE headphones on business class. Most noise was cancelled out.

        • hahaahahahaha

        • +1

@Cyphar: Had the same problem 3 weeks back SQ Business Class from Singapore to Melb. I would have taken crying over the blood curdling screaming I had to endure from take off to landing. I have to say the QC25 helped a bit, but nothing on this Earth can block out that high pitched noise.

        • @nayfon: your not looking hard enough

        • @RtN:

I have QC15's, the model down. Fantastic headphones but they don't block out crying. Every thing else was fantastic though

        • @Cyphar: executive baby?

        • @mthomas87: do you upgrade online or at the airport for the best rate?

        • @sjcwill: I just did their online upgrade bid and put in $1 more than the absolute minimum you can put in. 3 out of the 4 legs I flew business class was pretty empty so not too much of a chance of your bid being declined. This was for flights in March, YMMV.

      • +1

Does this noise cancellation work for crying babies?

        • It helps in my flight last week. Had 4 babies in seats in front of me.

        • it helps but doesn't block out completely as a poster mentions below.

Best bet is to go to Myer/DJs/JB, they have demo units of these set up so you can see if they are good value for you

        • +2

          @bnh: 4 babies? Buy a lottery ticket :)

        • Yes. Helps a lot. I have both QC25 and QC15, have to say QC25 is more comfortable and easy to carry. Can put a slim Xiaomi powerbank easily in the pouch.

        • +1

          @edman:
I tried it with the speaker infront of me rumbling jet engine noise, but they didn't have a baby simulator. Have you got a baby I can borrow? :D

        • @bnh: Were all 4 singing at the same time? hahaa

        • -1

@Orange:in terms of noISE cancellation, QC20 is the best, much better than QC25.

        • @alwayseric: do you have both or are you using a review to know this?

        • -1

          @sjcwill:
          I have BOTH.

just neg me, i don't care. i just try to help people who may be considering both options.

        • +1

No, noise cancelling (science!) is for continuous noise, you want noise isolation (good ear seal) for unpredictable noise like babies.

        • +2

          @adamadam:

Sorry mate I don't have a baby to lend you, but just ask one of the sales staff to do their best impersonation of a crying baby to get an idea of how it might work. I'm sure you won't get a funny look from them ;-)

        • @edman:
hahahaha!!! "Can you, please cry like a baby for me?"
          :D

        • @alwayseric: I didn't neg you but wanted to compare from someone who has first hand experience as I'm torn between which to buy and because the qc20 are in ear I can't test then in the store

        • @sjcwill:i dont think you did. the qc20is nit perfect either. its battary is not removable. iirc, after 500 times charges, the battery will be dead.but for anc, its way mire effective than qc25, based on my and my friends experience.

      • You forgot to mention the main reason you would want these babies on an overseas flight: the jet engines' noise!

    • +8

They are really, really good at noise cancelling. I fly international a fair bit and my QC15 headphones have been worth every dollar.

      • +9

Same here. After 5 years of use I replaced the worn out ear pads with an aftermarket pair from ebay and they are as new now ;) When you get on the plane you don't realize how loud the jet noise can be. If you try to take them off mid flight you will be surprised of the amount of noise they cancel!

        • +2

I have no idea why you'd be negged for that comment. Bloody strange lot.

    • +23

      Clearly never tried them ;)

I can agree with you in some respect — but the price is scalable versus the sound quality and noise cancellation. To this day people continue to pay $300-400 for Dr Dre Beats. Now that I do not understand.

      • +10

Dr Dre Beats is a joke. really funny one.

      • What I fail to understand more is why Tim paid $3,000,000,000 USD for Beats!

      • BOSE v Dre.
I own a pair of QC2 (really old version of the deal listed) and QC3 (more recent set). Both are worth it on any flight! Even if you only travel one long-haul flight a year, you will benefit from these! It took me a while to get used to active noise cancelling, but so much better than the cabin noise.
My sibling was gifted a pair of Beats by Dre… they are extremely uncomfortable for more than half an hour (on my big head) and sound quality is tweaked for heavy bass rather than quality.

      • i buy cheap headphones and constantly loose them, i can only imagine loosing something this expensive if i bought one :(

        • I find the more valuable something is, the more paranoid I am about it. Cheapo stuff you don't worry…

        • @jonathonsunshine:

          yeah that is true lol

    • +12

There is a also a Bose 21-day satisfaction guarantee. If you're not happy with the headphones you can return it for a refund as well.

      Worth a shot.

sitting next to baby crying or people snoring

Won't block these out actually — the Bose can block out ambient noise because these types of sounds have a constant amplitute and a constant wavelength. But not conversation or cries of a baby. Sounds that are intermittent or abrupt won't be picked up by the noise cancellation system.

      James may explains why
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTx4JgYsW5s

      • While listening music or watching movie, in that situation you won't notice surrounding sound.

      • +1

doesn't apply to purchases outside of Bose official store or online

      • While the ANC doesn't help with conversation etc, a headphone with decent quality pads will help block it out - my QC15s have been reasonable in this regard.

    • Clearly have never worn a pair, tomleonhart. I tried these for the first time a few months ago - they are utterly brilliant. Almost completely cancelled out most of the noise in the busy department store I was in. Would love them!

      • I actually worn the AE version. But just can't justify paying $300 for a pair :) just me though.

    • +6

I have tried Beats headphones. It's like they've taken the drivers out of $90 Sennheisers and turned up the Bass to 14, whacked them in a pretty housing, stick a 'B' on the side and paint them red.

However, if they've since recalled their stock since last month and vastly updated them, I'd love to know. :)

      • Have you tried the Solo2? It's a "fun" headphone and my gf hated it, but it did get recommendation from Tyll.
I probably wouldn't recommend them to someone who listens to classic for obvious reasons, that said, they were alright in my opinion.

That said, the older models were… awful at best.

throw it in bin.. your ears deserve better.

    • gr8 b8 m8.

  • +3

The daughter has a pair of these (paid $400). While there are much better headphones around wrt quality, the noise cancelling ability of these are superb. Tempted to get a pair just for flying.

  • +2

If you travel at all for work, you will want this.

    • +10

they work exactly as good even if you travel for leisure :P

  • whats normal price

  • +9

If noise cancelling is your main objective, I would recommend a pair of ear plugs.

    • +3

shooting muffs work better and are comfier RRP $25 bux.

If they can muffle the sound of a gunshot they'll work awesome on an aircraft.

      • But these types of earmuffs amplify or pass through ambient sound whilst attenuating the damaging sounds of a gunshot - would they really be effective for airline ambient noise or crying baby / rich crying baby

        • They do the same job as an earplug or noise isolation headphones.

        • +2

          @scrimshaw:

No they don't do the same job.
The ones you suggested are passive. These Bose are active.

Noise cancelling send out inverse sound waves to the incoming to effectively cancel out the noise. Of course, still get mild leak from ambient noise but its totally different to a passive solution.

    • +1

      excellent advice

    • +1

I'm fairly confident that you're having a laugh but just in case…..

      http://www.creative.com/headphones/discover/noisecancellatio…

    • I use noise cancelling headphones for the movies/music and plugs when I attempt to (unsuccesfully) sleep on planes.

    • +1

I just cover my ear with blue tac for noise cancellation

  • Man, I'm travelling this weekend. I wonder if Melb Airport will have a similar deal on

  • +9

Flying out tomorrow, might pick one up on the way and do the 21-day refund when I come back

  • Good deal - I have QC15's and they are awesome

  • Good price!
Tempted if they are still on sale next month

  • Wow, and can you also claim GST if flying out of the country?
Either way, that's the lowest I've seen it. Though it wouldn't be cheap to get checked in to the airport just for the price.

    • +4

You won't be paying GST if you're buying from the duty free shops.

      • Good point, totally forgot.

  • Is this a duty free price?

How do you price match as OP suggested?

  • Stupid question but are these eligible for TRS? I guess Duty Free prices exclude GST?

  • +2

That price from eGlobal (QW3RTY staticice search above) of $339 doesn't include shipping, which, for metro delivery appears to be $19.
    Bringing the total to $358.
If you bought those, you'd also be able to reclaim GST at airport, bring the price down to $308.18 +$19 delivery = $327.18.
That makes the saving by buying at the airport $18.18.

    • +1

which isn't much of a saving tbh… lol
but yeh still good-to-know pre-flight impulse buy

    • +3

are you sure eGlobal will include GST??

  • +6

    Update.
Second cheapest price on QW3rty's post is from BuyMac at $339.95, which includes shipping
If you bought them and reclaimed the GST you'd pay $309.05.
So the saving by buying these at the airport is 5 cents

    • +2

So the saving by buying these at the airport is 5 cents

Don't spend it all at once!

  • +1

If you want to use the headphones before flying out you can just buy from (or get someone to price match) https://sydneyhificastlehill.com.au/shop/full-size/bose-qc25… for $338

Claim TRS on them and they'll be marginally cheaper plus you can leave the packaging at home.

QC20s are the same price if earphones and being more compact are your thing. Don't forget to BYO airline adapter though.

  • From memory Costco had these for around this price too. Obviously membership required.

    • it is still for sale and I think it sells for about $320

      • Is this confirmed? I'm going to head to Costco and buy for $320 - please confirm

        • QC15 at Costco, so not even close :)

        • @derfel.cadarn: thanks mate

looks like Sydney Hi Fi and TRS is the best deal if you're flying anytime soon
